My derpiness cleared up on Saturday and I didn't bad at all afterwards. I just had drowsiness and a headache (which I suspect was more from the caffeine deprivation than the starvation). I also had growing pains in my legs, the kind I haven't had since I was a kid, which might have been lack of food coupled with walking around a casino for 8 hours straight. Despite me being drowsy, I actually had trouble sleeping in my dive motel room because of the pains in my legs.

I broke the fast Sunday afternoon with the casino brunch buffet. It was actually hard to tell if I was getting full or not because my stomach was so numb. Since I'm an advantage gambler, I also want to be an advantage EATER and cost the restaurant more in food than they get from me in money! I did end up overeating and suffered some indigestion and a stomach ache afterwards. I recommend NOT gorging yourself on the first meal back. Just eat a normal-sized meal -- maybe even a small one! Just to ease your body back into the crazy idea of eating food again.

As for the gambling trip: well, I was not even 15 minutes out of town on the highway when I got a freaking $845 speeding ticket. I didn't even KNOW that when a cop is pulled over on the shoulder of the highway that you're supposed to slow down to 60 KPH when passing him. So I kept going at normal highway speed, and because the cop clocked me as TECHNICALLY going 60 KPH over the limit, he came after me, pulled me over and told me I was going 60 KPH over the speed limit. Basically, in his eyes, what I did was equally as bad as someone who was driving in the city at 110 KPH in a 50 KPH zone, which is ridiculous. He said that because I was going that high over the speed limit he could have seized and impounded my car but said he wasn't going to do that. In his infinite mercy he ONLY gave me an $845 ticket, gee thanks. So I was pissed that I started my gambling trip already $845 in the hole. Plus my car depreciation and lodging. BUT, let me share with you an old Chinese parable that I always think about whenever something bad happens to me:

Once upon a time, a farmer lost his horse after it ran over the border into barbarian territory. All the townspeople consoled him and told him how it was bad luck to lose his horse. He responded, "Who knows if it will bring good luck?"

Later on, the farmer's horse came back, and it had brought several wild horses back with it. The townspeople came and congratulated him on his good luck. He responded, "Who knows if it will bring bad luck?"

The farmer's son worked on taming the horses, and one day he was thrown off and broke his leg. The townspeople all came and felt pity for his bad luck. The farmer responded, "Who knows if it will bring good luck?"

Soon afterwards, a barbarian army mobilized to invade. All the young and able-bodied men were conscripted into the army to defend against them. The farmer's son had a broken leg and therefore was not conscripted. All the conscripted men were killed in battle and the farmer's son was spared.

Hence: bad luck brings good luck, and good luck brings bad luck. This happens without end, and nobody can predict it.

I got to the casino and started out well playing some slot machines. Made like $300 in a few hours. But then I proceeded to give it all back and then some playing blackjack. The past few months I've been experimenting with counting cards but it hasn't worked out well for me so far, even though I'm pretty sure I'm doing it properly. I must be suffering from bad luck because even if you're just playing blackjack like a normal person, the casino only has a 0.5% edge, but I'm losing way more than that despite counting. So I just need to have an almost religious faith in the math and keep playing until I get a large enough sample size for the math to work out in the long run.

I grinded out a bunch more slot machine sessions and had some big wins and big losses. It was about 2:00 AM, I tried as hard as I could to find good slot machines but ultimately was still $1,000 in the hole when considering my speeding ticket and all my expenses. I was getting ready to give up and go back to my dive motel room for the night when I found a game called Wolf Run Eclipse and the progressive Mini free games had built up to a high number. Only one problem: it was a MAX DENOM, MAX BET of $15 per spin! Meaning it was hugely risky. If I didn't trip the Mini games quickly, I might lose thousands of dollars. I put my religious faith in the math into action though and took the plunge. Then a miracle happened ... I tripped the Mini free games progressive bonus rounds after a mere 21 spins! I then proceeded to hit a $2,240 win in the bonus round to shoot past my $1,000 deficit and into over $1,000 profit territory!

So you see, as the parable of the horse demonstrates, if I hadn't got that speeding ticket, my future would have changed and I may have never found the Wolf Run Eclipse game when I did. And even if I did, I would not have pressed the spin button at the exact right moment to stop the random number generator of the slot machine on the winning combination to give me the bonus round so quickly, and I would not have made a $1,000 profit on the trip. I may in fact have LOST thousands instead.

So, always remember the parable of the horse and realize that if that really bad thing hadn't happened to you, your future might have changed and you might have instead been on the highway in your $200,000 Mercedes Benz, on your way to the airport to jet off first class to Hawaii to marry your dream girl, and then you would have got hit head-on by a drunk driver and rendered a vegetable for the rest of your life.

In the US, there isn't a law that says one has to slow down when a car is on the shoulder with lights on. You are required to shift lanes as far away as safely possible in case drivers or pedestrians emerge from those vehicles. In the case of an oncoming emergency vehicle with lights flaring, one is supposed to pull over or stop at minimum.
