Raid Boss Phantump
★★★

Health Gauge: 46%
Shields Up: 6
Status: Atk +2, Def -1, SpAtk +2, SpDef -1
Raiders: Sandstorm (2)
KOs: 5

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Sucker Punch (70 BP)
Slash, Beedrill: 0 HP

Attack 2: Max Phantasm (120 BP)
Leo, Sableye: 0 HP

Attack 3: Rock Slide (75 BP)
Raves, Darmanitan Galar: 0 HP
Sixdragons, Axew: 165 HP
MM, Ponyta: 0 HP
CCK, Torracat: 0 HP

Raid Challengers

Raves, Galarian Darmanitan: 0 HP [Fainted]
Sixdragons, Axew: 127 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused] (Dynamax, 2 turns remaining)
MM, Ponyta: 0 HP [Fainted]
Leo, Sableye: 0 HP [Expert Belt] [Fainted]
Slash, Beedrill: 0 HP [Shadow Lance] Fainted]
Zorchic, Pawniard: 400 HP [Superhero Cape]
grassyglide, Tailow: 170 HP [Scrappy, Silk Scarf] [Focused] (Def -1)
CCK, Torracat: 0 HP [Fainted]

Sensing weakness, Axew consumes an inordinate amount of the surrounding crimson energy, using it to fuel a transformation to match the overwhelming size of their quarry. With a deafening roar they lead the charge, a Max Darkness cleaving through shields - the rest soon sundered in turn. Attacks hurtle into Phantump, enough that the Ghost is forced to erect yet more shields - though before Beedrill manages to land their own attack, a sudden distraction catches their eye, Phantump grunting with triumph as they levitate a branch into the carapace of the insect to land a finishing Sucker Punch. After this the dam truly breaks. Sableye is torn down with a Max Phasntasm, and a boulder is disinegrated, the resulting shower of debris claiming not one, not two... but three of the intrepid Raiders. Events suddenly look very dire indeed...

Dynamax initiative: Sixdragons, Axew

  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but up $500 may be collected for role played responses of equivalent words, per standard rules, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Thursday, 18th November to place your order.

...Hoo, boy. This was where things turned ugly. First off, in an unusual turn of events, the raid boss acted first, by way of a sudden Sucker Punch that targeted the Beedrill, robbing it of its last few hit points and stopping its attack before it began. And while the rest of the onslaught went as smoothly as they had hoped, that was where the good news ended. Indeed, they had destroyed Phantump's shield, and hit it so hard it was forced to put up another one almost immediately after, but now they had the rest of its attacks to deal with. And Phantump was still powered up from its previous use of Growth. So the Max Phantasm was enough to fell the Sableye, meaning that Phantump had claimed two victories in one turn.

And then came the Rock Slide.

Keith's mouth fell open. Of the four Pokémon the Rock Slide targeted, only the Axew was left standing, and he was pretty damn sure that that was only because it was Dynamaxed. The other three were all weak to Rock, and thus were all felled swiftly. The Torracat. The Galarian Zen Mode Darmanitan. And Keith's own Ponyta.

"...Oh, dis is so bad," Meowth whimpered, for even as he spoke, the storm overhead grew drastically more intense. Not yet to the point of blowing everyone away, but far further along than any of them would have liked to have seen.

"Yeah," Keith murmured. "Gah... OK, Sunfire, return!" he declared, withdrawing his totally unconscious Normal Form Ponyta. Almost immediately, Dynamax Energy began swirling around the ball, working its restorative magic on the Fire Horse Pokémon. "Arceus, Mew, and Helix, Meowth, how did this turn so bad so quick?"

"Maybe it's because everyone brought Fire and Flyin' types ta take on a Grass-type wat dat knows Rock Slide," Meowth quipped.

Keith glared at the Normal-type on his shoulder. "Really not the time for that," he retorted. "Sheesh... I mean, what, come on, it packs one Rock move and we're supposed to be so afraid of that that we don't bring any of the types that... what... Fire, Flying, Ice... Wow. Rock really covers a lot of Grass's weaknesses, doesn't it?" he murmured in surprise.

"Covers Bug as well, even though Phantump ain't weak ta dat," Meowth nodded.

"Yeah, well, still, like... what were we supposed to do, just bring a bunch of Dark-types and nothing else?" Keith shrugged (nearly jostling Meowth off his shoulder in the process). "It's just stupid to count out entire types just because there's one single move the opponent knows that would be super effective on them."

"Yeah, well, da Growth ain't exactly helped matters much," Meowth conceded.

"True, true," Keith nodded. "That Phantump's basically been operating with what amounts to a Swords Dance and a Nasty Plot under its belt this whole time. Someone should do something about that."

"Youse needs ta teach more moves fer dat purpose," stated Meowth. "Ain't nuttin' stoppin' youse from teachin' Sunfire sometin' like Struggle Bug or Snarl."

"Yeah, definitely something to keep in mind," Keith nodded in agreement. "But for right now..." And he took aim with his Dynamax Band, and fired a laser beam of Dynamax Energy from the Wishing Star like he was Buzz Lightyear or something, firied it right at the shield that still kept Phantump protected.

OOC: Cheering to break a shield.

Raid Boss Phantump
★★★

Health Gauge: 26%
Shields Up: 0
Status: Atk +2, Def -2, SpAtk +2, SpDef -2
Raiders: Sandstorm (1)
KOs: 6

Raider Healing Summary
Leo, Cheer; Sixdragons (Axew): 427 HP

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Max Phantasm (120 BP)
Sixdragos, Axew: 139 HP

Attack 2: Seed Bomb (80 BP)
grassyglide, Taillow: 0 HP

Attack 3: Wood Hammer (120 BP)
Zorchic, Pawniard: 76 HP

Raid Challengers

Raves, Galarian Darmanitan: 400 HP [Recovered]
Sixdragons, Axew: 101 HP [Shadow Lance] [Focused] (Def -1) (Dynamax, 1 turns remaining)
MM, Ponyta: 400 HP [Recovered]
Leo, Sableye: 400 HP [Expert Belt] [Recovered]
Slash, Beedrill: 400 HP [Shadow Lance] Recovered]
Zorchic, Pawniard: 76 HP [Superhero Cape] (+2 Atk, -1 Def)
grassyglide, Tailow: 0 HP [Silk Scarf] [Fainted]
CCK, Torracat: 400 HP [Recovered]

With the Raiders laid low, it is all they can do to attempt to rally their forces. A number of cheers ring throughout the surrounding clearing, each managing to either heal the enlarged Axew or rip free a protective barrier from Phantump. Finally, Axew unleashes a Max Darkness to end the last of the resistance, opening the floodgates for both Taillow and Pawniard. Unfortunately for the former, they are soon ended, a Max Phantasm targeting Axew enough to lower their defences and leave the following Seed Bomb sending them packing. Pawniard is left hanging at deaths door soon after, the vicious Wood Hammer close to ending him despite his resistance.

As he stood there, waiting, just waiting for his Pokémon to recover, Keith could only watch the battle unfold. With the shields having finally fallen once and for all, the rest of the Trainers and Pokémon present unleashed all they could on the Phantump. But alas, it wasn't enough, not even close, and Phantump was able to fight back. The Dynamaxed Axew was slammed with a Max Phantasm. The Pawniard was nailed by a devastating Wood Hammer. And perhaps most insultingly, the Taillow was knocked out by a Seed Bomb- truly a testament to how high Phantump's Attack had been boosted, though the Taillow itself had had its Defense lowered, both earlier and just moments ago from the Max Phantasm, so there was that to consider. Mercifully, however, none besides the Taillow were knocked out by the time the Phantump stopped its latest onslaught.

It was at around this time Keith and Meowth both noticed that the Poké Ball the former was clutching was now devoid of Dynamax Energy- its occupant had been fully healed at long last. "Dat's yer cue," Meowth remarked.

"Indeed it is," Keith agreed, throwing the ball. "Sunfire! One more time!" he declared as his Ponyta emerged in a flash of light, neighing loudly, looking good as new.

Sunfire looked up at the Phantump. It was still... very, very large. And yet, the Ponyta could tell by looking, it was visibly more worn down than before. This, she realized, was surely their chance to put an end to this fight once and for all! Even all around, other Trainers had given their orders, which included one final Max Darkness from Axew. If Keith was understanding the circumstances correctly, that was a guaranteed critical hit super effective Max Move against an opponent with sharply reduced Defense. Even that didn't finish it off, but it came quite close.

Thankfully, she didn't have to wait very long, or even at all, for Keith to give the command, for the Poison-type Trainer was quick to issue the command, almost before the freshly emptied Poké Ball had returned to sender. "Let's wrap this up!" Keith declared. "Sunfire, Flamethrower, let's go!" And Sunfire, neighing loudly once again, spewed a jet of fire from her mouth directly at the gigantic Phantump.

Keith watched Sunfire launch her attack. She already seemed a lot less nervous about this whole Dynamax deal, even after having just been knocked out by a Dynamaxed Pokémon. He supposed that maybe now that it wasn't quite so foreign a concept to her as it was earlier, now that she was getting used to the idea somewhat, maybe that was helping. He still wished he could've been the one to Dynamax in this raid battle, but overall, considering how things were almost assuredly going to play out in the end, he had a feeling he could live with how things went instead. There was always next time, after all- this, he was pretty sure, would not be Sunfire's only time to shine in a raid battle.

OOC: Sunfire used Flamethrower (90 BP).

It was a tense moment as the gathered Trainers and their Pokémon banded together for one final onslaught, but in the end they emerged victorious- these final moves were the straw that broke the Numel's back, and the Phantump shrank back down to size, hovering away unsteadily, leaving Keith hoping the little Stump Pokémon was alright. All Phantump, after all, were the ghosts of human children who had died while lost in forests, up to and including Keith's daughter's Trevenant. At this, he allowed himself a moment to reminisce, recalling the time he and Willa first found the Phantump lost in the woods just south of Sludge Wave Coast. He and Willa had basically become parents to that Phantump- Trevenant was just as much an older brother to Maribel as he was one of her Pokémon.

He was snapped out of this train of thought as Meowth applied a gentle Scratch to the face, so gentle that it didn't even draw blood, but it did its job nevertheless. Keith spared a second to give Meowth a look, before turning to see his Ponyta approaching, looking quite pleased with herself. Keith, now smiling, stroked the Pontya's head. The flames, of course, did not burn him, considering Sunfire trusted her Trainer completely, and this was never lost on Keith. "You did very well, Sunfire," Keith praised the Fire Horse Pokémon. "So, yeah- that's Dynamax for you. What did you think?"

Sunfire gave an uncertain whinny. Meowth was quick to speak up to translate. "She's sayin' she ain't sure just yet," he said. "Because yeah, dat Phantump was all kinds o' powerful, but it ain't seemed ta be in control, either."

"Well, yeah, of course it wasn't," Keith shrugged. "It was bombarded with entirely too much Dynamax Energy. That'd make anyone lose control. Now, you saw that Axew you were fighting alongside, yeah?" Sunfire nodded. "You saw it Dynamax, saw that it was in control, listened to its Trainer with no problem?" Again, Sunfire nodded. "Well," Keith smiled, "That's because it was Dynamaxed properly, with a Dynamax Band and its Poké Ball. Doesn't last as long when done that way, sure, but there's also no danger to the Pokémon involved. Fair enough trade, I think," he chuckled.

Sunfire considered this. It was all still a lot to take in, Dynamax Energy, and Dynamax Bands, and if she was being honest, she wasn't quite finished processing the existence of Poké Balls just yet. But what she did know was that Keith Masters was a man who knew what he was talking about. At the very least, he certainly knew far more about this time period than she did! Perhaps this whole Dynamax deal was all right after all. She whinnied in response to Keith's words, eliciting a smile from the Poison-type specialist as they headed over to collect their rewards. After that, Sunfire consented to giving Keith a ride home- she still had plenty of energy for that, and Keith, once he was satisfied that this was the case, raised no objections.

*Obtained 40 Watts!*

*Keith obtained a TR72 Power Whip!*

*Obtained 2 Rindo Berries!*

*Obtained the Kasib Berry!*

*Sunfire was elevated to level 27!*

*Sunfire learned Fire Spin!*
