Loch Bygone Raid Battle 11: Vs. Diglett(s)!

Raid Boss Digletts
★★★

Health gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: None.

Raid Challengers

Zorchic, Carnivine: 300 HP {Coba Berry (Flying resist)}
SpinyShell, Inkay: 300 HP
grassyglide, Rowlet: 400 HP
Connor, Tangrowth: 300 HP
Sixdragons, Paras: 300 HP
Slash, Dewott: 300 HP {Black Belt (+2 to Fighting moves)}
LBC, Petilil: 300 HP {Miracle Seed (+2 to Grass moves)}
MM, Vanillite: 300 HP

The raiders arrive onto the scene in a timely manner, and although the Power Spot seems somewhat dormant, the tension in the air is palpable as the trainers and their pokemon ready themselves for the telltale signs of a suddenly dynamaxing pokemon. The rumble and gentle tide of the migrating Diglett at least is an entertaining sight, though that comes to a silent stop when the skies above spontaenously cloud over and the moles duck underground, shying away from the spot as the Power Spot suddenly erupts to life before the raiders. As Jess's bracelet takes on a preliminary shine as Petilil feels the flow, the familiar crimson clouds form above a spot ahead of the raiders as the debatably lucky Diglett finally emerges, dynamaxed to a lofty height of around twenty feet...only for two more cloudy vortices to form as another two Diglett emerge from the earth, equally dynamaxed! The moles look around a little confused, before catching the eyes of the raiders and giving a war cry, having mistaken the grass pokemon as hunters after their colony!

Things just got a bit complicated.

Dynamax Initiative: LBC, Petilil.

  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Wednesday, 9th June to place your order.

Slash approached the Power Spot, Landstar the Dewott by his side, and Caprina the Popplio, as always, in his arms. The call had gone out for raiders to face a Dynamaxed Diglett who was causing havoc. The Dewott had jumped at the opportunity. Gilford, his Pignite bash brother had faced down a Dynamax raid before, and had been knocked out during it, so he was more than happy to take the opportunity to show Gilford up

The Diglett came into view. And then another. And then, yet another. It was almost like a Dugtrio with personal space issues with itself. That stupid, funny, nervous thought crossed his mind.

"Po! Po li, po?" Caprina barked from his arms.

"I'm not sure," Slash said, confused. "They seem to be acting as one, but they're definitely just Diglett. At the moment, anyway. We'll just have to see how things go with it, I suppose." Caprina was definitely weirded out here, and Slash was a bit as well.

The Dewott, by contrast, was too preoccupied with fighting intent to be shocked, or care all that much about the weirdness of the situation. He had a motivation to keep him driving on no matter what came. He readied his scalchops and took a defensive stance, ready for anything.

Luckily, Slash knew a thing or two about Diglett, since his family had one back at the preserve. A pure Ground-type, a speedy glass cannon type, with powerful wide spread moves. A lucky (for the Diglett) Fissure would be a danger to look out for as well.

"All right, Landstar," Slash shouted, "let's kick things off with a Coaching". With wide spread physical moves being the most likely threat, shoring up his allies' defense was a logical first move, in addition to making them hit harder on the side its Max Quake didn't improve.

OoC: Coaching (-- BP)

The Masters family arrived on the scene at the Loch Bygone Pokémon Gym, and not a moment too soon, as they saw the Dynamaxed Diglett emerge from under the ground. Twenty feet tall- hardly massive by the standards of Dynamaxed Pokémon, but by Diglett standards, gigantic. And as per usual with the species, there was still no way to see anything more to the Diglett than what was currently visible. A mystery that has plagued the most brilliant minds of the Pokémon world for generations on end. "Let's see," murmured Willa, producing her Pokédex and aiming it at the gargantuan Ground-type.

"Diglett- Normal Form- the Mole Pokémon. A Ground-type," said Willa's Pokédex. "Diglett burrows through the ground at a shallow depth, leaving a trail of disturbed earth in its wake. Because of how well this tills the soil, farmers tend to raise Diglett."

"Interesting," Keith shrugged as his wife stowed away her Pokédex once more. "But yeah- a Diglett, even Dynamaxed, shouldn't really be a problem, should it?"

"I certainly can't see how," Willa said with a small shrug of her own. "They're certainly not the most daunting of opponents. What could possibly happen?"

Alas, as was so often the case with that question and most any permutations thereof, the universe was very quick to provide an answer. In this case, the answer came in the form of two more Dynamaxed Diglett popping out of the ground. "...What," Keith said flatly.

"Three of them?" Maribel murmured. "Mom, if your Pokédex hadn't just identified the first one as a Diglett I would think this was a Dugtrio."

"Indeed," Willa murmured, though her expression was no less determined in the face of this decidedly unexpected turn of events. "...we still possess the advantage in numbers," she stated, turning to the Ice-type hovering beside her. "Vanillite, this changes nothing," she stated. "We still fight with everything we've got!"

"Vanill! Nillite!" Vanillite nodded before floating forward determinedly, the Fresh Snow Pokémon leaving a trail of gently fluttering snowflakes in his wake.

"Yeah! Go get 'em, Vanillite!" cheered Maribel.

"A raid battle against tree Dynamaxed Pokémon?" Meowth remarked from his position on Keith's shoulder. "Dat's a first fer me-owth."

"You and me both, Meowth," Keith nodded in agreement. "Willa and Vanillite got this, though," he added with a grin. "All the training they've been doing lately, even this ain't gonna throw them too badly."

"Ehh, I hope yer right," Meowth shrugged, opting to say nothing more for the moment, merely watching and waiting to see how things would unfold.

Willa gestured forward towards the unlikely Dugtrio cosplay attempt. "Vanillite! Avalanche attack!" she commanded. And while Vanillite did not act on this right away, it was of no concern to Willa- she knew good and well how this move worked. Everyone else had to act first, and then Vanillite would let 'er rip, and if he was attacked in the meantime, all the better- such a circumstance would only mean even more power behind the Avalanche attack.

OOC: Vanillite used Avalanche (60 BP; negative priority; power is doubled if the user takes damage in the same turn).

MM, Vanillite: 121 HP

Faced with a triumvirate of terrestrial terrors defending their turf, the raiders are swift to prepare themselves and soften their foes up. As Vanillish awaits for the boss to act, icy power dwelling in the snowcone, Inkay erects a physical ward to help reduce damage from the moles, while the large Tangrowth and small Petilil buffer their health restoration with an ingrain and leech seed respectively, the seed landing on the nose of one of the three Diglett to its discomfort. As the angry Paras sprays one of the Diglett in the face with dust, it's prepared attack is interrupted as it begins to violently sneeze, rendering the raid boss unable to act as Dewott gives a quick rousing speech to three of its allies, though Inkay seems somewhat deflated by the encouraging coaching and is left a little weakened physically. The same can't be said for Rowlet and Carnivine who deliver a double whammy of attacks on the third unaffected Diglett, who promptly rallies its companions to battle.

The unstatused Diglett summons forth a very large rock brimming with ancient power before dropping it directly onto Rowlet, the specially based attack bypassing the reflective wall and defence boosts to deliver a hefty blow, as well as kicking up a sandstorm, before the seedy mole triggers a mighty earthquake that leaves Vanillish looking the worse for wear and Petilil a bit shook up as well, though the Carnivine and Rowlet are not affected due to their airborne situation, and as the seedy Diglett shudders in the face of its energy being sapped, the raiders are buffeted by the swirling sand as the group recollects themselves and the Diglett look over each other's booboos, as the large horde of burrowing moles beneath continue on their way, oblivious to the conflict in their midst.

Dynamax Initiative: grassyglide, Rowlet.

After a frenzied first round, and the attacks ceased flying, the dust and snow settling down, it could be seen that this first round went fairly well for the group... er, the non-Diglett group. The round of attacks from all sides was rounded off quite nicely with Willa's Vanillite dumping heaps of snow on the Diglett, the move all the more powerful from the Earthquake Vanillite had been subjected to. Truly the epitome of "last but not least". The only way this could have worked better would have been if the Dewott's Coaching had included Vanillite among its sadly relatively meager selection of targets (it would certainly, at the very least, have done Vanillite a lot more good than that poor Inkay, who, Contrary to most reasonable expectations, seemed to have been actively hindered by the Coaching move).

"Direct hit! Yes!" Maribel cheered, jumping up happily.

"Way to go, you two!" Keith exclaimed.

"Freeze dose moles!" Meowth chimed in.

Willa said nothing, merely sporting a small yet definite smile on her face. A strong start indeed, with Vanillite having taken a powerful Earthquake and still being able to not only fight back, but fight back well. Not that Willa had been expecting anything less- she had, after all, been the one training Vanillite, and the little Ice-type had been making great strides since he was caught. And, of course, the unending support of her family didn't exactly hurt, either- their cheering never failed to put a smile on the Kalosian Ace Trainer's face.

Vanillite, in stark contrast to his Trainer's quiet dignity, cackled loudly and triumphantly, ecstatic at the huge hit he'd landed, and eager to get even more done. "Vaa haa haa haa haaaa!" he laughed, before turning back to Willa. "Van! Vanill, vanill!"he urged her, still grinning eagerly.

Willa gave a small nod. "Quite right, Vanillite," she agreed. "Now follow up with Icy Wind!" she commanded, gesturing forward.

"Vaaaaaa... NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!" Vanillite trilled, taking a deep breath and exhaling a powerful frigid gust, blowing ice crystals and snowflakes onto the trio of Ground-types at high speeds and surely chilling them to the bone.

"Man, look at dose two go," Meowth remarked. "Took Willa some time ta get da hang o' workin' wit dat Vanillite, but now dey's a pretty good team."

"Well, naturally," smiled Maribel. "Mom's awesome like that, right?" she said, turning to look at Willa with an admiring look. Maribel Masters, after all, had grown up learning everything she knew about Pokémon from who she looked up to as and considered to be the best Pokémon Trainers in existence.

Keith nodded, a proud smile on his face. "That she is, sweetie," he agreed. "That she is." With that, the father and daughter continued to watch as Willa and Vanillite continued their contribution to this decidedly unusual raid battle. Having to face off against multiple Dynamaxed Diglett was definitely unexpected, but the Masterses were certain this wouldn't trip any of them up too badly.

At least, they hoped it wouldn't.

OOC: Vanillite used Icy Wind (55 BP).

First step is preparations. A reflective screen was erected to help relieve physical attacking pressure, the Tangrowth dugs its roots into the ground to draw nutrients and lock itself in place, the Petilil shot a draining seed onto the Dynamax Digletts, and the Paras spread around paralytic spores towards them. Landstar, for his part, shared some advice and motivation to bulk some of his team mates up.

Landstar's assistance helped buff two of his teammmates, but the third seemed to actually be worse off for it. Of course, it was the Inkay, which meant it was probably Contrary. Caprina, unamused, slapped Slash.

"Ow! Oh, sorry!" he called out. That was not overly lucky. He hoped the Inkay didn't need to rely on peak physical prowess to make its contribution.

What was lucky, however, was that the Digletts' attacks didn't focus in on the Inkay. Though the sandstorm from their Max Rockfall could stack up to be an issue. The targeted Rowlett was thankfully also one of the teammates Landstar's coaching did actually inspire.

That's about what could be done for now. Now was the time for direct offense to apply pressure.

"Okay, Landstar, let's slam at them with an Aqua Tail!" Slash ordered.

OcO: Aqua Tail (90 BP)

Raid Boss Digletts
★★★

Health gauge: 73%
Shields Up: 4
Status:Speed -1, Paralyzed, Seeded, Sandstorm (3 Turns remaining).

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Rock Slide (75 BP)

SpinyShell, Inkay: 191 HP
grassyglide, Rowlet: 105 HP
Missingno. Master, Vanillite: 1 HP
Sixdragons, Paras: 161 HP

Attack 2: Mimic (-- BP)

Diglett copied Vanillite's Icy Wind!

Attack 3: Diglett is paralyzed! It can't move!

The raiders are buffeted by the sandstorm!

Raid Challengers

Reflect (3 Turns Remaining)

Zorchic, Carnivine: 262 HP (Att +1, Def +1){Coba Berry (Flying resist)}
SpinyShell, Inkay: 172 HP (Att -1, Def -1, S. Att +2)
grassyglide, Rowlet: 80 HP (Att +1, Def +1)

LBC, Petilil: 261 HP (Ingrained) {Miracle Seed (+2 to Grass moves)}
MM, Vanillite: 0 HP (Must wait 1 Round to recover)

Finding their feet after the great quake, the raiders are swift to pounce upon the raid bosses and begin to blast them with immense power. The Inkay's Leaf Storm bolsters its own special attack and Tangrowth follows suit as his drops, three sharpened lashes fly forth and a chilly wind blows as a barrage of explosive shells bombard the area as Petilil opts to play it even safer, digging her roots into the soil. The moles take the strikes in stride, but as their paralyzed companion struggles to deal with movement once more the other two erect a set of shimmering barriers, half of which are broken by the back end of the raider attacks.

The two are outraged at this, but Seedy seems to be cooking up schemes as he focuses on the ice type and copies its Icy Wind with a clever Mimic! The healthy Diglett meanwhile is far from pleased, and tapping into its rocky powers it digs down suddenly before popping up beneath a number of the raiders, sending them hurtling into the sky and landing a little roughly on their bottoms, only to be left defenceless as the rocks that were underneath them tumble down! While Inkay is somewhat better off, the other three rock-weak pokemon are not so lucky, with Rowlet and Paras faring better than the poor Vanillite, who barely survives with but a singular point of energy remaining. A point that is immediately stripped away by the swirling sand, sending the snow cone spiraling with messy sprinkles to its trainers in defeat. Paras seems even more incensed by this as it screeches and energy begins to flow around it.

Dynamax Initiative: Sixdragons, Paras.

The highly chaotic fight continued on. Powerful attacks went flying, including a Leaf Storm from that Inkay, who was now experiencing the more positive aspects of Contrary- namely, turning the massive drawback of Leaf Storm into an upside, with boosted Special Attack. With all said and done, a massive shield went up, protecting the moving mountain range from any further attacks. This was nothing new to them, of course- one familiar aspect of raid battles such as these, the need to periodically break down these admittedly insanely strong defenses, and indeed, the aforementioned Leaf Storm as well as a powerful Seed Bomb from a chillingly familiar Paras already dealt with part of the shield. But they still had more of it to get through before the Diglett could be targeted again.

Willa, meanwhile, was facing problems of her own. The Diglett's Rock Slide had landed with insane Force, a result of the howling Sandstorm somehow powering them up. Vanillite was wobbling alarmingly in midair as a result. "Vaaaa... Vaniiilll..." he grunted. Willa reached for her bag at once, but before she could so much as close her hand around any sort of healing item, the aforementioned sandstorm proved to be the straw that broke the Numel's back; the abrasive weather battered the already weary Ice-type, robbing him of his final hit point. With a sigh, Willa found herself instead pulling Vanillite's Ultra Ball out of her bag. "Come back now, Vanillite!" she called out, withdrawing the Casteliacone copycat. Almost immediately, Dynamax Energy flowed from the Wishing Star on Willa's Dynamax Band, swirling around Vanillite's Ultra Ball. Not to enlarge it, of course, but rather to simply work its healing magic.

Keith took hold of Willa's free hand, an action she appreciated far more than her small, slight smile might appear to convey. But Keith knew better, of course- Willa never was one to be especially up front with her emotions, and was quite good at maintaining her composure. And it occurred to Willa just how far she'd come- she remembered another raid battle she'd taken part in on this very same dried-up lake bed, remembered how much she was kicking herself when her Gogoat, then still a Skiddo, had been knocked out by the Runerigus they were fighting. But now? Now she simply accepted Vanillite's defeat, and was content to wait for him to fully recover before sending him back in to continue kicking ass.

"Mom, look over there," Maribel murmured. This snapped Willa out of her thoughts, and she looked over to see what her daughter was pointing out; a blank-eyed Paras, injured and agitated, and its Trainer, Dynamax Band aglow with Dynamax Energy, and not for the same reason as Willa's.

"...We've seen him before," Willa murmured.

"Yeah, that's... that's Cy, isn't it?" Keith added. "I certainly remember that Paras, at the very least. Meowth was telling me- Amanitin and Amanita feel sorry for that Paras. I didn't get the whole story, but from what I've heard, it's had things kinda rough in the past. And- and even Amanitin agrees on this- they both think that Paras should-"

"-should learn that it's OK to make friends," Willa finished, nodding slowly. "To trust others." She looked at her Dynamax Band, then at the Diglett's shield, then over to Cy's Paras, and then back to her Dynamax Band. Her mind made up, Willa took aim with the power-packed wristband, and from the Wishing Star let fly a bundled beam of Dynamax Energy with intent to heal. And from what she'd known of this particular Paras, she had a hunch that it might not be a bad idea to aim specifically for the mushrooms.

OOC: Cheering to heal sixdragons_in_atrenchcoat's Paras.

The Diglett hivemind had cascaded rocks around at some of the raiders' Pokemon. A Vanillite on their side. That Vanillite had been one that was not encouraged by Landstar's Coaching, and looked in poor shape. Worse still, the Digletts managed to Mimic its last used move, an Icy Wind. While not a powerful move, its spread nature and Ice typing might prove very dangerous to the majority Grass raid team. By fortune, the Stun Spore from before seemed to be still putting in work, locking them out of another attempted move.

The sandstorm's gradual damage finally overwhelmed the Vanillite, though, causing it to pass out. Ice types did unfortunately tend to be quite fragile, after all. Slash felt bad for that Trainer. Maybe that Trainer was just unlucky when it came to Ice-typed Pokemon.

Fortunately for Slash and Landstar, at least, the Dewott had failed to be hit by anything the trio of Diglett had fired off. The sandstorm's buffering had him concerned, though. Landstar was wincing slightly at the rocky chunks swirling around the area. He'd have to try to ensure some healing soon. But now, the barriers were up, so his Dewott's secret reserve weapon wouldn't work. It also seemed that his attacks were best suited for breaking said barriers at the moment, rather than trying to drain some health.

"Po, po li po!" Caprina spoke up from his arms, barking up her sparkly bubbles. Was it time for the bubbles?

"Not quite yet, girl" he responded. "Landstar," he turned his attention back to his Dewott, "let's give them another Aqua Tail!"
