Still, the muddy terrain offers little of interest as the pair trudges on, though for a brief moment, the shadows out of the corner of Melissa's eyes seem to shift, flickering with mischief...

Turning to investigate, Melissa can see a purple egg floating by, as if carried on the wind, with a white spot on its top, and three yellow markings. The eerie little egg lands close to the trainer and her Cyndaquil, yet the egg seems to somehow float above the mire...

Will Melissa take the egg, or move on? Keep in mind that this is your final decision, and the next egg will automatically hatch.
The pair continued further into the marshes, scanning their surroundings for any hint of an egg. Nothing stood out to them, though, and eventually, Melissa paused, taking another moment to study their current location.

She frowned. "...didn't we already pass through here?"

Wildfire tilted his head. "Don't think so. You haven't been meandering too much, though everything kinda looks the same."

"Huh. Alright. If you say so." She glanced around again before continuing on.

Barely ten minutes later, both of them twitched at motion in their peripherals, turning to see a purple egg floating in the wind. As it drifted closer, they could make out a white spot topping the egg, a yellow marking in the approximate center, and a pair of yellow markings on either side of the bottom. The egg settled lightly on the ground not far from them, while Melissa tried to figure out what it was.

With a mainly-purple body and the way it floated on the wind, it was most likely a Ghost type, but she was having trouble pinning down anything more than that. After a few moments of listening to Melissa mutter to herself, Wildfire rolled his eyes and fished out her Pokédex, pointing it at the egg and handing it over to her once it registered.

"...that would've been smarter, huh," she said as she looked at what the Pokédex said.

"And faster."

"But a Drifloon..." She hummed, considering the egg and flipping through the information on her 'dex.

Eventually, she sighed and closed her 'dex, prompting Wildfire to shift on her shoulder.

"I'm assuming we're leaving this one, too?" he asked, a little drowsy.

"Yeah. Don't think a Drifloon will work well with us," she said, tucking her Pokédex back into her bag.

He hummed an acknowledgement as Melissa started walking again. After a moment, he realized, "..we're not going to the mountain, are we?"

"Yeah, no," Melissa replied, sheepish.

He snickered. "And when you actually brought a winter jacket, too."

"I know, right? Of course I'd bring the jacket when I don't end up going to the snow!"

Wildfire tucked his face into Melissa's neck to muffle his laughter.

myahoo: Wildfire's patience runs thin with Melissa's mutterings over the egg's identity, prompting the Cyndaquil to fish out his trainer's Pokédex in order to put an abrupt end to the mystery. With the little ghost-type baby identified, a few moments of deliberation ultimately lead to Melissa closing her Pokédex and sighing. It seems clear to Wildfire that this egg would be left for another trainer to find, and upon Melissa's confirmation, a strong gust of wind lifts the egg back up again. It floats along its merry way, fading into the distance.

Despite managing to bring a coat that would be perfect for the climate, it seems that the pair of egg hunters won't be making it to the mountains this trip - but despite the wretched sameness of the swamp, the pair happen to come across something strange and beautiful nonetheless. A spot of vibrant color in the distance breaks up the dreary mud and swamp water, and as Melissa and Wildfire approach, the spot reveals itself to be a cluster of pink and scarlet blooms, cheerfully contrasting their surroundings atop the small patch of grass they've managed to sprout in. The fragrant flowers are delightful to sniff, but among them is the sharp scent of bitter herbs, emanating from a light green and white egg nestled among the blossoms.

Of course, the egg is not the only thing hiding in this natural bouquet - a pair of floppy bunny ears peek out from behind some petals, a jolly Pyu-pyuuu~! alerting the trainer and her Cyndaquil to the presence of the one and only Springtide Pyukumuku, before it dives into the muck and swims away at surprising speed, leaving bubbles in his wake. The call resonates within the egg, as it shimmies and shakes to reveal the bulb-like plant Pokémon inside, whose brown eyes blink with curiosity upon seeing the two adventurers for the first time.

A distortion rises from the muck, inviting the trio to return to the present time, and continue on their journeys together.

You have hatched a Female Petilil!

As the pair turned to continue on their way, a gust of wind picked the Drifloon egg up and carried it off into the distance. Melissa absently wished it well.

They continued trudging through the swamp, the repetitive scenery lulling Wildfire into a sleepy daze while Melissa scanned for anything out of the ordinary. Like the brightly-colored spot that rose up out of the mud. She eyed it curiously for several feet before changing course to check it out.

It turned out to be a cluster of pink and red flowers, blooming cheerfully amidst the mud. And nestled among the flowers and patch of grass was a green and white egg.

Wildfire startled out of his half-asleep state as a hidden Springtide Pyukumuku chirped something at them before it darted away, swimming so fast it left bubbles in its wake.

"...it really wanted out of here, huh?" Melissa said after a beat.

"I'm not surprised," Wildfire replied, turning to look at the hatching egg. "It's kinda...there's a lot of mud."

"Yeah."

The egg wobbled and shook for several moments before cracking open to reveal a bulb-like Pokémon with three leaves sticking out of its head. It blinked curiously up at the pair as Melissa returned the look with dismay.

"Oh. Oh, no." It was clearly a Grass-type and she kinda doubted it was a good idea to keep it. Besides, someone would want it, right? If only because it was from whatever this time and place was. "Um, I...don't think it'd be the best idea for you to come with me? I can hook you up with someone who'll be a better fit, though, so you don't have to worry about that."

The baby Pokémon made an alarmed noise at her, following it up with some kind of negative sounding string of syllables.

"She doesn't like that idea," Wildfire translated, tilting his head curiously as he peered down at the Pokémon. "She...wants to come with us."

Melissa crouched down so the baby didn't have to crane her body to look up at her. "You sure? I'm...not as good at dealing with Grass types as I am with Fire and Flying types and the Grass types I do have are pretty self-sufficient."

The baby considered that for a moment, eyeing Melissa and Wildfire, before she nodded decisively.

"Sounds good to her," Wildfire relayed. "She's sure she can handle that."

"Alright, if you're sure..." Melissa rummaged around in her bag and pulled out a Pokéball, pausing as she registered the outdated design. She shook her head after a moment and offered it to the Pokémon. The just-hatched Pokémon waddled forward, tapping the button on the front and allowing the Pokéball to suck her inside. It didn't take long for the Pokéball to click, so Melissa hooked it back to her belt and glanced around to orient herself.

"Welcome to the team. Now, let's get out of here."
