Magikarp Typhon's Depths Raid Battle 5: VS Qwilfish

Dynamax Boss Qwilfish
★★★
Health Gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: N/A

Raid Challengers:
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Elgyem): 300 HP [Atk -1]
  • Missingno. Master (Chinchou): 300 HP [Atk -1]
  • Raves (Pumpkasaur): 300 HP [Atk -1]

The trainers arrived and quickly sent out their Pokemon, and as they do so the massive pufferfish inflates even bigger than before as an Intimidation tactic. The dark clouds above continued to roll in and Dynamax energy surged from the Power Spot into Rory’s Dynamax Band.

  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • If a trainer’s Pokemon is rendered unconscious, they may choose to cheer on their allies; opting to either remove one shield from the raid boss or healing one ally’s Pokemon by 50% of their max health.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Wednesday, May 6th to place your order.

As they got closer, the sheer size of the Qwilfish before them struck them anew. Brighton shuddered involuntarily as the formidable foe before him succeeded in its attempt to Intimidate its adversaries.

"At least we know the Ability we're dealing with here," Keith murmured. "Not that we're about to try physical moves right now anyway."

"Fish Qwilfish!" Hebenon called encouragingly to his son. "Qwil Qwilfish qwil!"

At his father's words of encouragement, Brighton took a deep breath. "Chou," he murmured, before jumping off the deck of the Banette's Revenge and into the water, swimming over to where everyone else had already been gathered to take on the Qwilfish. The Pumpkasaur in particular caught Keith's eye, and he allowed himself two seconds of jealous longing before shifting his focus right back to where it honestly ought to have been the whole time; the battle at hand.

Keith considered his options, and believe you me, he had a few. Status conditions could be a big help here, so Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray were both viable options. Whirlpool would also inflict damage on the Qwilfish even when it would inevitably put up a shield, the effects would linger for quite a while. Or, of course, they could simply start blasting the thing with electricity. A simple tactic, and yet, tried and true.

"Here we go!" Keith grinned confidently. "Let's start this off right! Brighton, use Whirlpool!"

"Chiiiiiin... choooooooooou!" Brighton cried out as he attempted to trap the enormous Qwilfish in a swirling vortex of water.

(OOC: Brighton used Whirlpool (35 BP).

Dynamax Boss Qwilfish
★★★
Health Gauge: 92%
Shields Up: 0
Status: [Whirlpool, Leech Seed (Pumpkasaur)]

Raid Boss Attack Summary:

The trainers kicked off the battle by trapping the gigantic Qwilfish with a series of effects and projecting a series of psychic attacks into the astral plane. The enemy's first move came immediately following the various attacks against it, and of course, it targeted Brighton right away with an Acid Spray. Hebenon puffed up indignantly at this- this larger-than-life lookalike dared target his son? Brighton, however, was not to be deterred by a simple Acid Spray, even as the subsequent Max Darkness struck the Lapras, lowering the Special Defense of everyone present. And for Brighton, whose Special Defense had already been previously lowered by Acid Spray, this was edging closer and closer to "alarming" territory as far as Keith was concerned.

Keith considered his options. Brighton knew Charge- in fact, he'd learned it very recently. That could not only power up his next Electric move, but also help him regain some of that lost Special Defense. And yet... was it worth it? It'd take three uses of the move to undo what that Qwilfish did more or less all at once, and odds were that the next attack Brighton would get to use after this would be hitting a shield anyway, and if that happened, didn't matter whether it was powered up by Charge, it'd all chip away the same paltry portion of the protection. No, Charge wasn't looking like the best option, the more Keith thought about it.

"We might as well just start hammering away at it, then!" Keith declared out loud. "Brighton, Thunderbolt, let's go!"

"Chiiiiiiin... CHOOOOOOUUUUUU!!" bellowed Brighton as his lures crackled with electricity before letting loose a sizzling bolt of lightning straight at the Qwilfish.

OOC: Brighton used Thunderbolt (90 BP).

Dynamax Boss Qwilfish
★★★
Health Gauge: 72%
Shields Up: 3
Status: [Def +1, Sp.Def +1, Whirlpool, Leech Seed (Pumpkasaur)]

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Sludge Wave (95 BP)
CCK, Elgyem:
MM, Chinchou: 240 HP
Raves, Pumpkasaur:
TKF, Lapras:
Attack 2: Stockpile (0 BP)

Raid Challengers:
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Elgyem): 143 HP [Atk -1, Sp.Def -1]
  • Missingno. Master (Chinchou): 16 HP [Atk -1, Sp.Def -3, Poisoned]
  • Raves (Pumpkasaur): 193 HP [Atk +1, Sp.Def -1]
  • TheKnightsFury (Lapras): 13 HP [Atk -1, Sp.Def -1, Future Sight (1)]

The trainers and their Pokemon continued their assault on the Qwilfish, taking a sizeable chunk out of its health. Angered by this barrage, the pufferfish unleashed a toxic Sludge Wave that hit all four Pokemon hard, especially the Chinchou who began to feel the effects of poison. The Qwilfish then braced itself as it began to Stockpile its energy. As the residual effects of Whirlpool and Leech Seed persisted, Qwilfish shuddered and created a set of shields to protect it.

Dynamax Initiative: MM, Chinchou

Keith Masters knew Poison-types, and knew them well. His starter was a Koffing, and he'd owned a Qwilfish of his own for the vast majority of his training career. He knew Poison-types. He knew what certain movements on their part generally meant. And that meant that when he saw the gigantic Qwilfish moving as it was, Keith's eyes widened. "Look out! It's gonna use Sludge Wave!" he called out. And sure enough, that's just what the Qwilfish did. A rancid flood washed over the battlefield, blasting every Pokémon present with thick, purple sludge.

Keith gritted his teeth- every one of the Qwilfish's opponents had taken damage from this, and Brighton had taken it especially hard, with his seriously lowered Special Defense. Keith noticed the energy pouring into his Dynamax Band, but knew it'd be a waste- Brighton wasn't just hit hard, the Sludge Wave had also poisoned him!

"Chin... chou..." panted Brighton. And yet, even as he struggled to stay upright, Keith and Hebenon both saw him look over at the Lapras who might not have been poisoned, but had to have roughly as many hit points left as the Chinchou.

"Qwilfish..." murmured Hebenon.

"Wow... Brighton's really just trying to look out for the others, even with him being about to collapse," Keith murmured. "And that Lapras... if it's anything like Willa's..." he added, consulting his Pokédex, smirking as he saw the Ability on the device's readout. "I knew it- Water Absorb," he grinned. "I think I see what Brighton wants to do here," he stated. "All things considered, might be our best option. Hebenon, what say you?" he asked the Qwilfish he held in his hand.

Hebenon puffed himself up slightly. "Fish Qwilfish!" he declared.

Keith smiled. "Had a feeling," he nodded, before turning back to the battle. "Let's do it, Brighton!" he called. "Use Bubble Beam on the Lapras!"

"Chou! Chiiiiin... chouchouchou!" Brighton exclaimed as he powerfully sprayed foam from his mouth in the direction of the Water/Ice-type in the hope of healing it up.

OOC: Brighton used Bubble Beam (65 BP; targeting TKF's Lapras w/Water Absorb)

Dynamax Boss Qwilfish
★★★
Health Gauge: 71%
Shields Up: 0
Status: [Leech Seed (Pumpkasaur)]

Trainer Recovery Summary:
MM, Chinchou: Bubble Beam
TKF, Lapras: 88 HP [Water Absorb]
TKF, Lapras: Thunderbolt
MM, Chinchou: 91 HP [Volt Absorb]
Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Pin Missile (25 BP * 4)
CCK, Elgyem: 0 HP
Attack 2: Bounce (85 BP)
TKF, Lapras: 3 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Elgyem): 0 HP [Must sit out 1 round before recovering]
  • Missingno. Master (Chinchou): 53 HP [Atk -1, Sp.Def -3, Poisoned]
  • Raves (Pumpkasaur): 243 HP [Atk +1, Sp.Def -1, Mimic: Thunderbolt]
  • TheKnightsFury (Lapras): 3 HP [Atk -1, Sp.Def -1, Paralyzed]

With their Pokemon’s health in a dire situation, the trainers called for each other to use their natural abilities to attempt to heal one another. Qwilfish turned its attention to the only one who went after it, firing off a flurry of Pin Missiles at the Elgyem, which caused the little green man to slump over unconscious. Qwilfish then Bounced into the air and slammed down on Lapras hard, leaving it in critical health and paralyzed as well. As the poison continued to sap Chinchou’s health and the whirlpool dissipating, things were looking bad for the raiders until a powerful psychic attack from the past blasted the gigantamax Pokemon and removed its remaining shields.

Dynamax Initiative: TKF, Lapras
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • You have until Wednesday, May 13th to place your order.

As Brighton's Bubble Beam rejuvenated the ailing Lapras, Keith was pleasantly surprised to see said Lapras and its Trainer return the favor, striking Brighton with a sizzling Thunderbolt. Ordinarily not a move Water-types like to be subjected to, but thanks to Volt Absorb, Brighton took in every watt, smiling broadly as his hit points returned. "Chou~" he called gratefully to the Lapras.

Alas, luck wasn't to remain on their side. A powerful Pin Missile knocked the Elgyem clean out, and a single use of Bounce seemed to be sufficient to undo all Brighton had done for Lapras and then some- paralyzed, and you could count its remaining hit points on one hand. And on top of it all, that Thunderbolt hadn't cured Brighton's poisoning- that was still an issue, and the health Volt Absorb had restored for the Chinchou would only last so long, between aforementioned poisoning and the still severely lowered Special Defense of the Chinchou.

"Qwil..." Hebenon murmured. It pained him to see his son in such a sorry state, severely weakened, suffering from poison. However, Brighton was far from the point of giving up, a fact driven home quite nicely by the stubborn look in his plus-shaped pupils as he glared up at the opponent. Sheer stubbornness in the face of a powerful opponent... surely a trait the Chinchou got from his father, Keith knew, a smile on his face as he registered this fact.

"...He's gonna be fine, Hebenon," Keith murmured. "He's your boy, after all- you didn't think he didn't inherit any of that power, did you?"

"...fish," chuckled Hebenon, also smiling at this point. As was so often the case, Keith was absolutely right.

Keith spoke up at this point. "Ready to show them, Brighton?" he called.

"Chinchou!" responded Brighton. Stubborn and determined, the Chinchou felt every bit as ready as he sounded, even as he winced from the poison.

"Then let 'em have it!" Keith declared. "Brighton, Thunderbolt, let's go!"

"Chiiiiiin... CHOOOOOOUUUUUUU!" bellowed Brighton. His lures crackled with electricity, and he shot a powerful bolt of lightning at the gigantic Qwilfish.

OOC: Brighton used Thunderbolt (90 BP).

Brighton didn't take any damage this time around, apart from the poisoning, but that didn't mean this wasn't downright scary anyway- both moves Qwilfish used, they would have been seriously bad news if they'd have hit the poisoned Chinchou. That they didn't actually strike the Water/Electric-type was nothing short of a miracle.

Hebenon watched the battle intently from his position in Keith's hand. The Qwilfish, naturally, was concerned for his son. But at the same time, he couldn't help but give a small, proud smile, seeing how much determination and sheer stubbornness his boy was showing in the face of such a formidable and terrifying enemy.

Keith hadn't even noticed the Dynamax Energy slip away from him, but as soon as he saw what happened next happen, he realized it must have; he looked on in wonder and no small amount of envy as the Pumpkasaur was Dynamaxed. Not only that, it let loose a Max Lightning, the base move being the Thunderbolt it had copied from the (currently unconscious) Lapras via Mimic, landing a powerful blow, but the damage wasn't the only good thing to come of this; Keith's eyes widened as a powerful electric current ran through the battlefield. "Electric Terrain..." he murmured wonderingly.

"Chin! Chinchou!" Brighton called out urgently.

Keith nodded, a grin on his face. "Couldn't agree more!" he declared. "Brighton, use Thunderbolt once more!"

"CHIIIIIN... CHOOOOOOUUUUU!" Brighton bellowed, letting loose yet another bolt of lightning towards the humongous Qwilfish. Dynamaxed or not, this thing was still weak to Electric, and now with the Electric Terrain on Brighton's side, surely their opponent could only take so much more of this.

OOC: Brighton used Thunderbolt (90 BP; boosted by Electric Terrain)
