Surskit Round 7

Felicia looks to finally have a chance to fight to her fullest, no longer plagued by her Paralysis. She feels like Regigigas, awakening after a long time -- after all, she is a Fossil Pokemon, revived from her last traces -- but possessing fearsome power now that she is finally ready. Lombro seems to acknowledge this -- perhaps that is why he continues to be deadpan, even after these triumphs -- and looks to shut her down once again. He takes a step back, but remains out of the water, the better to show off his Teetering, erratic steps, his hands and feet completely out of sync. This might seem strange for a Pokemon that is explicitly trained in dance -- one would expect him to know what he is doing. But he seems that he _does_ know what he is doing, and he means it, the awkwardness of this dance deliberate on his part. So difficult to comprehend is this that the Lileep ends up confused, and she herself begins to sway without any discernible rhyme of reason. She, at least, does make an attempt to get back at her foe, not yet harmless. She brings her tentacles together, secreting poison from them and lobbing a glob of a highly Toxic substance at her opponent. Although her aim is far from accurate, the proximity of the two Pokemon results in the attack covering the Lombre's side, causing him to shiver with distaste. He knows that his time is now limited -- if he continues on this path, relying on indirect battling rather than sheer force, he will only be stretching out the battle and therefore digging his own grave. But he does not wish to change his battle style, either -- it is there to stay. It is then that he realizes that he can even the odds, simply enough, by inflicting the same ailment upon his opponent. He leans back, then shoves his head forward and spits out his own dose of Toxic, aiming right between his opponent's tentacles. Her mouth does not seem to be possible to detect, however, and that is if she has one, and so, the poison has to penetrate into her body the hard way. At least, fortunately for Lombro, her confusion keeps her from using her second move.

Lombro might want to consider a rest sometime soon, but Felicia is fresh. Both have had their Poison Type energy cut down to half, and in both cases, Toxic is going to take an extra turn to set in.

Sharpedo Round 8

Quote:
Emolga (Electric/Flying): Emolga cannot actually 'fly', much like the Gligar family, instead gliding over the ground. They are adept climbers and very agile on the ground. While gliding, they gently discharge electricity, and any Pokémon coming into contact with them will suffer slight recoil. Due to their tendency to store excess electricity within their cheek pouches, their Charge attack is more potent than usual. Their hearing is more sensitive than normal at the expense of being more vulnerable to sound-based status moves and they have an excellent sense of smell which allows them to track opponents and tell the real clone in a Double Team.
With the Lileep in a rather precarious position, what with the continuous stream of status her opponent has been throwing, she is returned to her Pokeball to be replaced by Amelia. The Emolga lands on the ring of rocks, but only momentarily, lightly but strongly jumping off and taking to the air, her arms outstretched, her leathery wings catching the air. Her opponent seems to have been anticipating this, preparing to greet her less-than-cordially, but it would seem that his tiring state has given her the opportunity to set off her own move, too. The wind picks up in front of her, spiraling as if drawn in by vacuum, but Amelia goes a step further, concentrating these winds into a sphere through the power of the Spirit of Adventure. Even as she does so, however, Lombro does what he does best: that is, dance. It is highly distracting to see him quivering like that while maintaining his deadpan expression, and although the Emolga manages to get her move off, she does so just as the confusion sets in, throwing her aim off somewhat. Nonetheless, the gale that crashes into the Lombre is harsh in its own right, blowing him right off his feet and into the water. As he resurfaces, he seems to... also be confused. Ridiculously enough, _both_ Pokemon are unable to carry out their orders further.

Only Lombro took damage, but both sides are confused, and Lombro's bad poisoning will set in next round. Both sides are otherwise fresh.

Espurr Round 9

Lombro teetering on the spot, involuntarily this time, it is deemed that it would be too risky for him to stay in while lacking a marked control of the situation. He is returned, and Ljos is sent back out in his place, her face as listless as her opponent's, but owing to her calculated approach rather than the stupor of confusion. Indeed, her opponent is left with little choice but to weather the attack, unable to do anything to defend herself as the angler, with the air of one who has their prey in their clutches, raises her antennae up high, far spread out to the sides. At once, from her body, twin jolts run up the antennae, lighting up the bulbs at the ends, and then she slams them together, the resulting Overload releasing a violent spark in her opponent's direction. It literally shocks the Emolga out of her confusion, that is for sure, the pain wrenching her out of her daze and back to attention, her ears straight and alert. She looks at her new adversary with bewilderment on her face, but her instincts drive her to act rather than to just stand and meditate the situation -- even as her opponent is recovering, she leaps forth, her cheeks welling up with a Toxic substance.

She lands on her opponent, nearly forcing the Chinchou under the surface, and opens her mouth, spewing out some sludge that, by virtue of its proximity and her recharging state, begins to seep into Ljos's body before she can wash it away. Amelia proceeds to use the fish's body itself as a launching pad to take back into the air, moving back towards the ring of rocks, wary of the water. But then the angler's dim bulbs suddenly light up, and the Emolga realizes that it is time to fly, and fast. Covering an arc in the air, she lands on the rocks momentarily, only to shoot back up into the air even faster than before, her body surrounded by a greenish light. The Water Type makes haste to get in one last shot before the prey escapes, investing her electrical abilities into now heating the water to Scalding temperatures, but she does not have much time. As she lets out a burst of liquid and steam, the Flying Type is able to strafe to the side, slightly alleviating the attack, but nonetheless clenching her teeth as she charges into the fish's body, and waits for nothing before taking a U-Turn and getting absorbed back into her Pokeball. Taking her place is a red flash of light, and then a Marshtomp lands in the water near the rocks.

Quote:
Marshtomp (Water/Ground): Being a wet and slimy Pokémon, attacks involving grabs or holds are difficult to execute and prevents them from being affected by Electric attacks when wet. They may also use their fin to detect things happening in the arena, allowing a better idea of where foes are even when disguised. Their mud based attacks are more effective than normal. As starter Pokémon, their Water-type attacks are slightly more powerful when they drop below 1/3 health.
Amelia is resting her Pokeball, but is already heading to her second third of health, with her Bug Type energy halved and Poison a little under. Ljos has taken much less damage, but is badly poisoned.

Billy, try and get into the water as you Mud Shot. If you are close enough to Ljos, DQ Earthquake, but otherwise settle for another Mud Shot.

Surskit Round 9

Billy paddles in the water, sizing up his opponent -- rather literally, in this case. Although it is well evident that he has yet to evolve before he can really be referred to as "large", it is also clear that he holds the physical advantage in this matchup. Hoping to make use of it, he approaches his opponent, but, instead of waiting until he is close enough, he chooses to put on the pressure right away. The angler silently dips under the water, and the Marshtomp follows suit, unwilling to let up his chase, even as he lets his mouth fill with Ground Type energy, a small brown glow emanating from his throat. The Chinchou, however, not one to underestimate the warning sign that a glow can be, is swift to react -- she sets her own bulbs ablaze, and her eyes follow suit, drawing upon what remains of the her psychokinetic energy. In front of her, a wall takes form, glimmering and cycling between all the colours of the rainbow before settling for a bright pink hue. Billy realizes that something is wrong, but then, it is too late to go back on his decision now. His mouth snaps open, releasing a few Shots of brown at his opponent. Of course, as expected, they are stopped in their tracks by the Screen of Light, and then simply absorbed by it before it can turn to Mud.

Although her plan has worked, Ljos's stoic face finally displays some semblance of emotion -- and it is an achievement for Billy to have evoked it from a Gym Pokemon. She beats a hasty retreat, not wishing to wait and see what her opponent could have up his sleeve were he to come in close. Unfortunately for the Marshtomp, her small frame and deftness in the water ensure that she is able to keep her distance -- as he makes to approach, she equally moves away. Concluding that chasing her around is not worth the time and effort, the Ground Type resigns himself to repeating his previous move. He slows down, concentrating on aiming, fixing a clear shot at his foe. This gesture, although made without more warning than a tight shutting of the mouth, is enough to set the Chinchou on alert -- another volley of earhtly Shots comes her way, only to once again by absorbed by the shield. Yet, maintaining the notion that this might not be an opponent wise to fight by herself, she charges some Volts into her antennae and then her entire body, investing a small amount of it to lash out harmlessly at the rocks, and the rest to Switch out while she can.

Quote:
Cloyster (Water/Ice): Cloyster lack legs, so their movement on land consists of hopping a few feet at a time. While swimming, Cloyster open and close their shell to move through the water. They fight more enthusiastically when submerged and in a sizeable body of water. A Cloyster's shell is hard, reducing the damage from all attacks. The most vulnerable spot of a Cloyster is its face, where it will take a little more damage than usual. They can see in the dark. Their Icicle Spear, Spike Cannon and Rock Blast attacks are slightly more powerful than usual, creating a greater number of projectiles and firing them with greater precision and accuracy.
Neither Pokemon took damage. Ljos is practically out of Psychic Type energy, but she is resting in her Pokeball.

Is that the way Mud shot is meant to work? That seems wrong since it would effectively allow it to destroy both types of screens?

That is something I asked myself, too. This means that moves like Mud Shot would be able to break both screens, but also not be able to do much damage afterwards because they would stop there. This makes sense to me because the move is supposed to turn from energy to a physical substance when it hits something, so the way the description is framed would indicate that it would work the same way on screens.

However, the concern you brought up does bug me from a balance perspective. While this interpretation does not make it broken, because Mud Shot itself is not achieving much other than breaking the screen either, it does feel very odd, and something that might be at odds with the interpretations of others, or something that might have not been intended when the description was written.

...I think, actually, that I should just treat it as being blocked by Light Screen (and breaking Reflect) normally. After all, one of the selling points of Mud Shot is that it is a ranged Special Ground Type move. I could justify it by saying Light Screen absorbs the energy before it turns to mud. Edited.

Spenna will know Freeze Dry thanks to the Primary Badge

Cloyster was sent out where Ljos was last round, so they have a good amount of distance between them.

Water!Dive as fast as you can over to the Cloyster, smacking it in the face, then aim a Dynamic Punch to the face.
