Darmanitan UPN PASBL Gym Defence: Snorby vs. Ger

Quote:
Snorby (GL) vs. Ger (O)

EquiAll 6
Strict 1 Week DQ (No, really.)
Switch = OK
The Room of the Enlightened
Spoiler: show
The Room of the Enlightened appears to the untrained eye to be nothing more than a standard if rather empty looking laboratory. The steel walls and floors are surprisingly manipulable, with them being about as manipulable as clay despite appearing and feeling like Steel. The arena about 20 by 20 feet with a ceiling about 20 feet in the air and several strange looking machines dotting the floors that can be used for cover.

Upon looking to the ceiling, however, one will see a massive, glowing blue eye on the ceiling. Its purpose is to enlighten all Psychic-types within the arena, making them feel as if they've locked on to any and all opponents with Miracle Eye. The eye lights the arena, shining down an incredibly bright blue light that makes Pokemon who have a natural affinity to darkness and are more comfortable or can see in the dark quite uncomfortable, even reducing the accuracy of their attacks somewhat as they have trouble adjusting to the bright light.

The eye, however, can be forced to close if it takes extreme damage during a single round. If this occurs, it will close for the rest of that round and remain closed for the following round, opening again at the very end of the round after it was closed. When the eye is closed, all the effects of the blue light, from the lowered accuracy for those unenlightened to the effects of Miracle Eye, automatically disappear until the eye is open once again, at which point the effects return.
You both know the drills. Let's get those squads in.

Welp. Good luck, Ger! Let's have some fun with this. Thanks for reffing this one, Cibbir.

Bringing Metagrossite and Buffer Badge

Buffer Badge
Global
The Buffer Badge is bestowed upon all those strong enough in both mind and body to overcome the Gym of Enlightenment. The badge itself is a translucent, blue pane of glass that rests atop a similarly translucent pink cube. Light refracts off of the badge when looked at from most angles, and the badge has a strange effect in that it will repel slightly from your hand, just barely grazing the palm rather than resting comfortably.
Badge Effect: Screen Enhancement
When the Buffer Badge is in use, the owner's Pokemon will all find themselves more adept at using the moves Reflect, Light Screen, and Barrier. Cubic Screens will last for an extra two rounds, while Pane Screens are now able to take an additional light amount of damage before shattering. All screens will also go up instantaneously, similar to the abilities of a Mr. Mime.

Soto: Level 6 Male Mr. Mime
HP Rock
Special Training: Master Mime [PS]
Soto's Barrier, Light Screen, and Reflect attacks all cost 10% less energy to perform. Soto may no longer use Mega Punch and Psybeam.

Elba: Level 6 Female Girafarig
HP Dark
Special Attack: Heart of a Fighter [FT]
Elba is familiar with the Fighting-Type, and can use the moves Aura Sphere, Superpower, and Sacred Sword. She may no longer use the moves Psyshock and Hyper Beam.

Iunno: Level 6 Male Sigilyph
HP Fighting
Special Attack: Sand Shot (GD)
Iunno quickly blasts the target with a concentrated shot of sand, dealing Significant Ground Damage for Major energy. This technique is performed with about as much speed as an Ice Shard and can cause Electric attacks to refract away if it comes in contact with one. This move can be used twice per battle.

Ringo: Level 6 Male Malamar
HP Rock
Special Attack: Maxwell's Silver Hammer [DK]
Using Major Dark energy, Ringo creates a silver energy construct resembling a hammer beforing either bashing the opponent with it or hurling it at them, dealing Major Dark damage. While this is a physical hit, the hammer has the strange ability to make all Ghosts solid upon contact. The ghost hit by the attack will be forced to stay solid for the round following the use of the attack. Ringo never learned Payback or Reversal.

Mercury: Level 6 Male Gallade
HP Fairy
Special Training: Don't Stop Me Now! [XX]
Mercury's Special Attacks hit Ghosts as though they're in the ethereal state, and his Physical Attacks hit Ghosts as though they're in the solid state. Mercury cannot use Thief, Shadow Sneak, Disarming Voice, Dazzling Gleam, Magical Leaf, Psyshock, and Secret Power, however.

Foo: Level 6 Genderless Metagross
HP Grass
Metagrossite Attached
Special Attack: Tactical Retreat (ST)
Using Heavy Steel energy, Foo slams one of his legs into the ground, creating a shock wave that will strike the opponent. This will drop both their physical and special defenses by one stage, though the attack deals no damage. This drop fades the same way any other would. Foo uses leftover energy to switch out for a teammate, even if the match is Switch = KO. Alternatively, Foo may use this attack directly on the opponent, rushing them and striking them directly, for the same effects. This is a rather fast attack and its therefore difficult to outpace. If the attack does not affect the opponent, Foo will still switch out, but the attack instead costs Major energy.

Elba, kick things off.

Begin with Psyshock. Follow up with a Psychic Wave to push him back if he comes close, but replace that with a Psybeam should he keep his distance.

As the dawn breaks upon one of the newest institutions within the League, the intrepid but inexperienced challenger wandering through the wide doors is greeted by a rather unorthodox sight. Where many of the arenas within the League were styled upon natural existences, this one was far removed from that. The shining glint of man made chrome was spread far and wide here, the dull monotonous whining of strange machinery - tasks unknown to all but the owner - filling the entire room. It is not long before the challenger is greeted. Appearing from the opposite doors, the Gym Leader wastes no time in giving the true welcome, calling upon his first combatant. Standing in a pose mimicking the confidence emanating from her owner, Elba awaits her opponent, who soon indulges him. Appearing from the air,Omega sparks into existence, the Rotom wearing a comical grin.

Wasting no time, Elba readies herself, her eyes briefly glowing with an intense blue aura. Before long though, she finds the gathering energy leaving her body. With a whinnying groan, she realises that her trainer has in fact asked her to use a move that she had forfeited in training, and Omega chuckles with gleeful malice as he finds himself with a sitting duck target. His entire body crawls with foul black energies, and with a warbling cry he launches wave after wave towards poor Elba. The Girafarig grunts against the blasting attack, but she manages to fight through despite the pain. Opening her mouth wide, she creates a whirling sphere of colour, the dizzying lights enamouring Omega for a moment. The Rotom finds this to have been a mistake as a lancing beam of energy smashes against his body, and he whines with pain. Looking to quickly fight back, he rotates the drum of his body rapidly, generating a pulsing energy around himself. With a shrill cry, he launches numerous tendrils of searching energy towards Elba, the Girafarig receiving a dangerous shock to the system ... but remaining mercifully free of any lasting detriment.

Elba fell most way through her first third this round, but remains pretty peppy. Omega took a fair hit, has half his Dark reserves remaining to him, but is likewise fairly peppy.

Knowing that he already held the advantage in the battle, Omega has no qualms about rushing towards his foe. He channels a fine energy over the hose jutting from his both, the pulsing pink aura signaling danger to Elba. She tries to avoid, but the Girafarig can do little, and with a demure cry Omega brings the appendage spinning round to strike his foe dead in the face. Hissing with fury, the Girafarig coats her rear legs in a threatening brown aura, kicking out wildly and smashing her hooves into the face of her opponent. The shrieks of agony are near unbearable. Recoiling from the abrupt blow to his vitality, Omega allows his entire body to surge with an intense electrical energy once more, lancing a thickened bolt into the body of Elba. The Girafarig shrieks with pain, but fights through the blow, rushing forth to once again smash a tectonic blow into the body of her opponent.

Omega has crashed deep into his second third, while Elba entered hers with a fair lead. She's out of Ground energy though. Both are good for two.

Looking to continue to captalise on the advantage she had carved for herself, Elba looks at her foe with narrow eyes, the Girafarig considering numerous means of doing away with the Water type. Her eyes slowly but surely light up as her plans come together, and it is evident from the atmosphere around her that she has become significantly more dangerous, causing Omega to shudder involuntarily. Still, the Rotom had a job to do, and he would be damned before he completed it. Opening the door on his body, he hurriedly condenses the surrounding darkness, forcing the ebbing energy into a compact sphere. With a loud cry, he launches this shadowy mass through the air, watching on with interest as it bursts over the body of Elba - though it does not quite do the damage one may expect. Brushing the blow off, Elba allows her eyes to shine with an intense blue aura, and a light gust batters around the surroundings, signaling that something was brewing - before dying out. Perplexed by this, Omega decides to attack once more anyway, launching a second sphere of darkened energy through the air, and as this one connects, Elba rears back. It would seem that this attack had managed to undermine her defensive stature somewhat, leaving her slightly more vulnerable.

Elba's lead was eliminated this round, both about the enter their final thirds. Both are showing slight signs of tiring, but can go for two if necessary. Omega has a decent amount of Ghost remaining.

Knowing that his continued future within the battle hangs in the balance, Omega once again creates a flickering orb of pale purple energy, the shadowy construct whining as it is condensed. With a cry, the Rotom sends it hurtling forwards, watching on as it breaks over the face of Elba, but the Girafarig is more stalwart. Slamming a hoof into the ground, she quickly creates an orb of her own, this one shining with an intense verdant vibrancy. With a neigh, she sends the orb hurtling into the body of Omega, and the Rotom shrieks with agony, barely able to retain hold of his composure as he writhes in pain. Looking to continue his assault though, he attempts to create yet another orb ... but this time the attack stutters and falters, not quite coming to completion. It seems that Omega doesn't quite have the energy remaining to fuel the attack! Elba chuckles at this, determining instead to simply end her opponent, launching a second orb of pulsing green energy into the body of her foe.

Omega is unable to battle! Ger, your next Pokemon please

Elba is showing really obvious signs of tiring now, and would greatly appreciate a breather. She is out of Grass energy and has entered her final third.

For note, familiarity is roughly taken to be ~2 Hyper Beams of energy, meaning Pokemon can typically get out three Significant level attacks - after that point their remaining energy would fuel only a third of an attack of that level (Shadow Ball) and so I have it fail if attempted.

With Omega having fallen, his trainer recalls him on a job well done, calling into action his next combatant. Glaring at his foe, the majesty of Reigns seems to intimidate Elba somewhat, and in this moment the Pyroar takes his opportunity to strike. Lowering himself close to the ground, he injects a fury laden energy throughout his muscles, launching himself across the ground with a surge of incredible force. Slamming into the body of Elba, he grunts with satisfaction as the Girafarig is forced backwards, but finds himself on the wrong end of retaliation all too quickly. With a grunt, Elba forces a shining blue aura into a condensed orb, launching the sphere through the air. Despite the languished motions of the Psychic type, the orb finds itself drawn to Reigns, impacting on the Fire type with a rousing explosion. Hissing his irritation at having been damaged to such an extent already, Reigns opens his mouth wide, spewing forth a roaring blast of crimson flame. The lance strikes Elba well and true, but the Girafarig manages to forcibly hold onto her consciousness - albeit it barely. Allowing her form to be consumed by a primal energy, she launches towards her foe, and while Reigns manages to avoid some of the incoming blow, it is impossible to avoid in it's entirety. The savagery of the hit launches the Pyroar across the room, leaving a good deal of distance between the pair, but the sudden nature of what comes next leaves Reigns defenceless. A huge orb of burning white energy launches from the sky, racing into his form and adding insult to injury.

Reigns took an almighty beating this round, launched well into his second third already. He's fresh, whereas his foe is deep into critical and barely able to even move courtesy of the intense exhaustion.

Knowing that her time was nigh, ELba moves to raise onto her hind legs, determined to give one final show of defiance to her aggressor. She is not even granted that simple of wishes. Launching across the ground between the two in simple, powerful bounds, Reigns ignites his fangs with a virulent aura of burning flame. Clamping his jaws shut on the neck of his foe, he gives a simple tug, and with a sigh Elba allows the fight to leave her body, knowing she had done a job well done.

Elba is unable to battle! Snorby, your next Pokemon please.

Reigns remains pretty peppy and mercifully suffered no damage this round.

With Elba having capitulated, the Gym Leader decides to call upon a notably reliable member of his team, and Mercury strides forwards, raising his bladed arms into a defensive position as a gesture of intent. Wasting no time, he transitions into a much more sleek stance, allowing his intense energy to begin overflowing from his being. The aura condenses into a compact orb before being launched through the air, but Reigns has no intention of taking the blow head on. Using one of the nearby tables, he launches himself high into the air, his fresh nature allowing him to avoid the incoming blast in it's entirety. Landing on his foe, he fails to force Mercury to the ground, but the Gallade is forced to take a few cursory steps back as he winces, not enjoying the first blows which were traded. Still, Mercury remains stalwart, channeling a dull orange energy over the length of one of his arms. Launching a speedy punch towards his foe, he catches Reigns on the jaw, leaving the Pyroar licking his wounds for a moment. The energy gathered around the arm of Mercury ends up sinking into his body, empowering his future attacks, but Reigns has a mind only for the present. Increasing his body temperature rapidly, he spews forth an almighty conflagration, the brunt of the flames striking the chest of Mercury. The sheer force of the assault levied against him leaves the Gallade stumbling backwards, and it is evident his first round has not been an enjoyable one.

Reigns is going to be pretty sluggish after that sudden expenditure, but will otherwise be just about good for two. He's right on the edge of his final third now though, while Mercury is near enough into the second. Mercury is pretty fresh and enjoying a boost.
