UPN PASBL: Miror Miror vs Crystopher Walken

In my first match since coming back, here we go!

Gl Hf.

We're now watching a match between two Trainers for whom I've reffed before. Miror the Mod and Crys the Lady. Battle stations, allons-y!

So we're all clear on the rules:
- This match is a Singles match. Both trainers may use one Pokemon at a time.
- Both trainers submit a squad of 6 Pokemon and only 4 will be used in this match. A trainer loses when all 4 of their Pokemon are KO'd.
- For the purposes of this match, all Pokemon will be considered to be Level 3, with the exception of Uplevels.
- Switching out is considered a KO unless the Pokemon is recalled by a switching move such as U-Turn or Baton Pass.

The match will progress as follows:
- Miror posts his squad.
- Crys posts her squad and send out her Pokemon.
- Miror sends out his Pokemon and orders an attack.
- Crys orders an attack
- Schadenfreude refs the battle, and then the battle order reverses.
- Crys orders an attack.
- Miror orders an attack.
And so on...

The ref's choice arena chosen for this match is a simple classic. Welcome to the Pummello:

Quote:
Pummelo: Similar to the Rock arena in every aspect bar for the large, circular pool situated at the center of the arena. The pool is deep enough to accomodate most Pokemon, but larger Pokemon will be unable to do more complex manoeuvres. The pool is roughly as wide as it is deep.

We're doing standard scales. Hop onto it!

Sorry about the delay, good luck to you Crys and thanks Schaden for taking this!

Menoptra - Level 4 Male Octillery
Signature Move: Special Training: Zaptastic
After evolution, some physical changes did remain, the red eyes being the same, but the regular yellow suction cups on Menoptra have become electric blue. The additional typing of Electric was lost over evolution, but now contact with the Octillery will now cause 25% recoil in Electric damage as he's still supercharged with electricity. He also remains familiar with the Electric type, and retains the moves Thunderbolt, Zap Cannon, and Volt Switch, while still losing the moves Bounce, Double-Edge, Flail, Thief, Facade, Return, Frustration, Confide, Rest, Sleep Talk, Snore, Recover, Sunny Day, Psychic, Captivate, Endure, Hydro Pump, Blizzard, and Focus Energy.

Jedondan - Level 3 Genderless Magneton
Signature Move: Special Attack - Screw Shot (ST)
Jedondan creates many large, steel screws (about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide at the head) which have extremely sharp points. These 10 screws launch in whatever direction Jedondan chooses (regardless of which way it's facing), moving quickly towards the target, dealing up to heavy piercing damage for high energy. They also function similarly to Psybeam in that Jedondan has control over their course. In realistic, this attack can puncture the opponent and potentially embed themselves in the opponent as well, physical damage being up to the ref's discretion.

Manussan - Level 3 Female Lombre
Signature Move: Special Training - Nymphaea
Manussan now has a bright pink lily on the top of her lilypad-like head. This flower emits a pungent smell that causes a feeling similar to hay fever, with Pokemon within five feet developing strong headaches and losing concentration due to the side effects, with the effects worsening the nearer the Pokemon is. This makes it harder to execute moves requiring concentration and will cause them to use more energy or potentially fail if close enough.

Zarbi - Level 3 Female Xatu
Signature Move: Special Attack - Huitzilopochtli's Vigor (PS)
Spreading her wings wide and cawing towards the Sun, Zarbi channels divine Psychic energy to construct two Maquahitls held suspended in the air. A Maquahitl is similar to a sword, being a close contact weapon around 4' long and 4" wide, its edges having sharp obsidian embedded inside. Zarbi swings these with astonishing speed at her opponent using her mind, and can hit an opponent at most 10 feet away, each cutting for a Decent Psychic-Type hit. The Maquahitls dissipate upon impact, and have a 10% chance each of making the opponent flinch from the impact. In Realistic, these can leave at the worst severe cuts, physical damage being up the the referee's discretion. This attack uses Heavy Psychic-type energy.

Kaio - Level 3 Male Hariyama

Solomon - Level 3 Male Grumpig

Mist - Level 3 Male Haunter
Liberator - Level 3 Male Delibird
Sidhe - Level 3 Female Liepard
Proto.exe Level 3 Non-gender Porygon2
Burd Level 3 Female Staraptor

Burd, do your shit.

Menoptra into the pool.

Start off with a nice Thunderbolt, followed by an Octazooka to the bird's face if you would.

Check out TA for yesterday.

ROUND 1: A Quick Start
Octillery vs Staraptor

Welcome to the Pummelo Arena. Sunlight drapes down like a curtain, as a group of onlookers congregate in the grandstands to watch an amateur battle. Light breezes weave through a series of boulders which dot an otherwise flat arena demarcated for a Pokemon match. In the center of the area is a pool, which contains clear water that reflects mesmerising depths. Two Trainers, both dressed casually, approach two squares emptied specifically for a battle. They catch each other's flinty looks.

The Referee, a young man with a whistle, speaks aloud:

"We now begin the Pokémon Match between Miror and Crys," he says, opening his palms. "Here is the data on their chosen Pokémon."

Quote:

Thus, if the opponent uses attacks dependent on Octillery's weight, Octillery are considered to weigh 200 pounds for the duration of the attack, provided they are touching something they can hold on to. Octillery are fastest in water, though they can move somewhat well on land. They have excellent accuracy and their attacks have a greater chance of hitting. They can see in the dark.
[Water]: Water-type Pokémon are generally able to hold their breath and/or breathe underwater. The time varies, from several rounds in the case of birds, mammals and reptiles to indefinitely for fish and squid like Pokémon. They are generally good swimmers and are better at manipulating Water for moves like Surf and Whirlpool than other Pokémon. They have slightly more Ice-typed energy than other Pokémon if they naturally learn attacks of that type.

Staraptor (Normal/Flying): Staraptor are very intimidating Pokémon. Their intimidation attacks are more effective than normal. They are more effective in numbers. When battling alongside another Flying Pokémon, they gain a boost in confidence that gives them a boost in attack. They have exceptional eyesight and enhanced accuracy which is very difficult to lower. They are adept at remaining aloft while performing complicated attacks and movements and so are able to use Close Combat with great ease.
[Normal]: Normal-type Pokémon generally have a bit less off-type energy than other Pokémon. Normal-types which usually have a secondary type do not suffer from this drawback unless specified. In the ASB, Normal-types take neutral damage from the damaging effects of Ghost-type energy.
[Flying]: Flying-type Pokémon are faster and more agile in their chosen mode of transportation than other Pokémon. Because of their skill in controlling their movement, they are more difficult to evade when using physical moves and more likely to succeed in dodging attacks. Flying type Pokémon are affected normally by the damaging effects of Ground-typed energy and take neutral damage from Ground type moves in the ASB. They fight more enthusiastically in spacious arenas but are not put off by cramped conditions.
The Referee says loudly, "And let's begin in three... two... one. Release!"

As two PokéBalls soar upwards, two shots of red light morph into Pokémon. One morphs into a crimson octopus called Menoptra from the Octillery line, who leaps into the centre pool. Meanwhile, the other jet of light transforms into the black-feathered form of Burd the Staraptor. Menoptra smirks at his opponent. This skirmish will be one of his own choosing. Blazing with bravado, Menoptra summons a storm of electricity which he discharges straight at Burd. Immediately, a Thunderbolt corkscrews into the sky, swivelling towards Burd. The Staraptor has her own plans, though. Before the electrical shock can reach her, Burd fires all canisters and coats herself with a cloak of energy. Cracking like a whip, Burd swerves upwards in a burst of Agility, as the electricity barely misses her underbelly.

Undeterred, the Octillery transitions into his next manoeuvre. Menoptra fills the insides of his mouth with tar-like ink, which he laces with aquatic energy. A second later, he hones onto Burd's agile form. And Menoptra fires. This time, the Octillery hits his mark: the Octazooka hurtles in an arc, lancing the bottom half of Burd's face. As thick ooze soaks her plumage, the Staraptor squawks in outrage. Although the Flying-type managed to avoid taking the attack completely in her eyes, some of the unctuous substrate manages to splatter across her left eye. The Octillery are not known as marksmen for naught. Her vision partially blurred, Burd quietens her disconcertment and instead locks onto Menoptra. When she swoops down, Burd's entire body swaddles in Bug energy, as she slams into the waterborne Octillery.

Using momentum to arc up out of the water, Burd swishes her wings and transforms into a swirl of light, which U-Turns back into her ball. In Burd's place emerges a sinister ghost. The nefarious creature cackles, as he dons a sadistic smile. The referee shudders and reads off his datapad.

"Here is the data on Crys's new Pokémon," he says.

Haunter's hands can move independently of it and can move with agility and decent speed. They are able to pass through solid objects even when Haunter is Solid, with somewhat more freedom to pass through objects than Haunter itself, allowing them to pass through thicker walls or other objects. Haunterfs Lick attack has a 50% chance to paralyze, instead of the usual 30%. Haunter levitate by default.
[Ghost]: Ghost-type Pokémon fight more enthusiastically at night, though are not put off by fighting in the day, and can see in the dark. Ghosts are resistant to curses and curses imposed on them will last for a shorter time and be less potent. Their fear inducing attacks are more effective than those used by other Pokémon. Ghost-types are not fully immune to Normal, Fighting or typeless attacks as in the games, taking neutral damage, but some may change their state in order to evade physical moves (see Ghost Pokémon information for details).
[Poison]: Poison-type Pokémon are highly resistant to poisoning. Their Poison-type attacks are slightly more likely to succeed in poisoning their targets than those used by other Pokémon and the effects will be slightly more potent. They also have an additional 5% chance to poison the target when using physical attacks with their most venomous appendages e.g. a Seviper's tail, a Nidoking's horn.

Menoptra's Electric reserves are fine, while Burd's Bug reserves have taken a large hit. Burd took slightly more damage than Menoptra, while Mist the Haunter is fresh and fresh. Burd's vision is slightly impaired, and being in the Pokéball won't help with that.

Supersonic to disrupt him as he tries to Double Team. If no clones appear, send him a Psybeam, otherwise, send a Surf through them (obviously not riding).

ROUND 2: Dark Shadows
Octillery vs Haunter

Deciding to adopt evasive manoeuvres, Mist the Haunter starts darting between several points in the arena. Like an after-image from a camera flash, Mist's body blurs and begins to form several Double Team clones. Menoptra does not plan on being a sitting duck, however. Before Mist can conclude his order, the octopus screams out a single note which reaches a Supersonic pitch. The noise rends the air, tearing it like fabric. Almost immediately, the Haunter grinds to a halt, and a jarring confusion prances across his mind. The Double Team images vanish. While Mist blathers and struggles with hallucinatory images, Menoptra smirks and garners a swathe of Psychic power. Kaleidoscopic light swivels and coalesces in the Octillery's snout. As Menoptra ricochets the shimmering Beam, the scintillating cascade crashes into Mist. Instantly, a horrific agony assails Mist's senses, shocking the confusion out of his mind.

Mist shudders. After he shakes off the super-effective attack, Mist tries to steady his breathing. Get back into the game. Concentrating on the situation on hand, Mist summons a sphere of swirling Shadows, which streaks like a sinister aurora. The Ball tightens, and Mist hurtles it at Menoptra. When the orb shrieks and lances Menoptra's flank, a storm of Ghost energy explodes over the Octillery's body. The aftermath wind knocks Menoptra backwards, and the octopus hisses. Despite the luck in avoiding a Defense Drop, Menoptra cannot help feeling disconcerted by this turn of events. What will happen next?

Menoptra's Psychic reserves are okay for now, not requiring a breather yet although Mist is fresher at the moment. Mist has taken a large super-effective blow, dropping down.

Blow away the Haze with an Ominous Wind, then Toxic him while trying to avoid as much of the Pulse as possible.

ROUND 3: Toxic
Octillery vs Haunter

Gladdened by his previous success, Menoptra launches into his next move with vigor. Spewing some Haze, Menoptra fills the stadium with a thick veil of cold gas, which drapes like a reliquary. Vision begins to plummet. The Haunter does not panic, though. Instead, Mist summons a swirl of Ghost energy, billowing out an Ominous Wind. The ethereal gusts dispels the fog, parting the curtains as the ephemeral typhoon blasts Octillery backwards. While Mist giggles to himself, he basks in the glow of his success, which boats his overall strength in all aspects of offense and defense. After Mist smirks, Menoptra scowls and wastes little time. Filling his snout with Water energy, the octopus locks onto the ethereal Haunter and discharges. A shimmering sphere flies across the floor, catching Mist as the Haunter transitions into a solid form to minimise damage.

The aquatic energy explodes in a torrent, and Mist garbles out a pained note. Although he avoids confusion, the ghost winces and shivers from the cold. Now is not the time to panic, though. Time to fight further. Sneering with palpable disdain, Mist funnels his Toxic hatred for the octopus. When Haunter zips around, Mist belches a spray of poisons onto Menoptra, dousing him in vitriol. Startled, the Octillery squawks, as the putrid substrates start soaking into Menoptra's skin.

Toxic is soaking into Menoptra, while Menoptra may want a breather soon. Mist is okay in terms of energy exhaustion. Menoptra extends his health lead.

Smog around the pond, then Will-o-Wisp to blow crap up. Conditional of replacing Will-o with Hex should the Smog be removed.

Blow it up while it's closer to him with a Flamethrower, then allow yourself to sink from the surface.

ROUND 4: Burning Man
Octillery vs Haunter

For some reason, Mist thinks that feeling gassy in the way to progress in this battle. Perhaps he had been consuming some musical fruits in his past life? Nevertheless, the Haunter starts farting some glorious Smog around the pond which houses Menoptra. The octopus grimaces, but he doesn't panic. Instead, the Octillery quickly utilises his marksmanship and hurls a Flamethrower at the gasses. Which happens to be combustible. And surrounding Haunter, who consists of gasses even in the Solid form. All I shall say is "Kaboom". Although Menoptra took some recoil from the enormous explosion, Mist undergoes an ordeal which reminds the referee of an episode of Masterchef.

While Menoptra sinks deeper into the pond, Mist screams and makes his Trainer weep. Not all goes poorly, though. As a consolation prize, Mist manages to cobble together enough coherence to launch a Hex. And because of the Toxins infiltrating the octopus's bloodstream, the Hex deals some boosted damage.

Toxic damage will start up for Menoptra, who extends his health lead over the Haunter that drops to the midpoint for health. Also, Haunter will want a breather, while Octillery feels a bit better. Fire is half gone.

ROUND 5: (Almost) Nothing Happens
Octillery vs Haunter

For some reason, both battlers decide to play the pussy-footing game, which is ironic considering that one of the Pokémon is Octopussy. Sinking deeper into the pool, Menoptra tosses out a Water Pulse, which Mist evades by Ghost!Digging through the Pummello pavement. And then the two battlers glare at each other, waiting for the other to make a move. Since Mist doesn't move to attack, Menoptra doesn't Screech. And the octopus suffers the first winces of Toxic damage. Meanwhile, the two distance themselves from each other. I refuse to dignify this round with a lengthy description because fuck you, "Wait around" Orders.

Almost nothing happened. Neither battler used much energy, although both are feeling more refreshed now.
