UPN PASBL: Concept vs Mew The Gato

A flutter of wind isn't enough to move the finely cut grass, but it's enough to kick up some dust, enough for a flower or two to fall. The grizzled, half-retired veteran on one side watches the dust fly, and the young up-and-comer on the other stares at the flower for perhaps a second longer than necessary. Then both the combatants look around the arena for a second.

A boring arena, some might say, one that's overused and overdone. But it is on these grounds that some Davids have slain Goliaths, and it is on these grounds that some Davids have had their hopes crushed. The only question that remains is...which will happen today?

The statistics of this battle are simple enough, no frills.

2 vs 2
Equilevel 1
Slapstick
Switch=KO
Lawn Arena

Concept probably counts as the challenger, so he should squad up first.

Level 1:

Gretchen the Spheal (Female)
Spheal (Water/Ice): Spheal have rotund bodies which allow them to gain speed and momentum very quickly with Rollout. They move primarily by rolling when on land but prefer to swim if possible. If the floor is slippery like an Ice field, they can maneuverable easily using their flippers and tail. They are highly resistant to freezing temperatures and remain nimble in the coldest waters where other Pokémon might be numbed. They are very agile swimmers, generally. They can easily conceal themselves in snowy and icy environments. They are able to hold objects on their nose, allowing them to manipulate objects and use them in attacks. They can see in the dark.
No sig.

Olimar the Inkay (Male)
Inkay (Dark/Psychic): Inkay is able to bioluminece, allowing it to light up a dark area for an extended period of time by using a move. It costs no energy to maintain this light. Its light-based attacks are slightly more potent than normal. It also can maintain its accuracy regardless of its orientation. It floats low across the ground, moving through small, thrusting motions, much like an aquatic squid.
No sig.

Matilda the Venipede (Female)
Venipede: (Bug/Poison) Venipede has developed a specialized poison as a method of self-defense against Flying Pokémon, with a slight (5%) additional chance of mild to moderate paralysis around the contact site.
No sig.

Isaias the Azurill (Male)
Azurill (Normal/Fairy): Azurill may use their tail-balls as a floatation device, making it difficult to force one underwater if it does not wish to do so. All baby Pokémon's techniques that are based on cuteness (such as Charm, Attract, Sweet Kiss, etc) are slightly more effective.
No sig.

Julius the Aron (Male)
Aron (Steel/Rock): Aron can see in the dark. Due to its exceptional hardness, it will not take recoil damage from attacks it uses and is resistant to physical moves.
No sig.
Token Effect: Aggronite
Aggron may transform into its Mega form in battle.

Minerva the Goomy (Female)
Goomy (Dragon): Goomy is slow and slimy, but also rather soft and squishy, giving it a 10% resistance to physical attacks. Its body is amorphous, allowing it to move across the ground by oozing or slithering, as well as making it hard to grasp.

No sig.

Mew

Thank you for battling and refereeing.

Also, which scale are we using? 4/6, I assume?

Lord Squishy: Level 1 Male Shellos

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Shellos (Water): Shellos have two different forms, although they are not different from each other other than looks. Shellos move at a decent speed on land, and a respectable pace in the water, though they prefer shallow, slow water to deep, fast currents. They are coated with a slimy substance, which makes them harder to grab. They are also able to stick to the ground. Any weight attack used against them will when stuck will have them considered to be double their weight. This stickiness also allows it to scale some vertical surfaces.
Lord Squishy, before joining the squad, used to live in a swamp. The centre was extremely toxic, while the outskirts were not as much so. Lord Squishy was the ruler of the swamp, and Kamal, then a Lotad, was one of the Pokemon under him. He was respected by all. Due to living in the most toxic parts of the swamp, his body itself had become coated with some strange substance over time. Any Pokemon that touched Lord Squishy became subject to extremely irritating effects on their own body. Due to this, Lord Squishy was just as feared as he was revered.

Lord Squishy, however, was bored, and disappointed that no one wanted to embrace the Squishy. Only Poison Types could like to do so, and most Poison Types in the area were territorial and rebellious, because they existed there even before Lord Squishy and the others came to the swamp. Due to this, he followed Kamal and joined the squad when it passed through the swamp. Now, Lord Squishy rules over all the slimy Pokemon in the squad.

Hidden Power: Flying

Special Training: Embrace The Squishy

Lord Squishy's body is very sticky, and difficult to free oneself from. Physical contact with Lord Squishy shall cause any non-Poison or non-Steel Type to feel extreme irritation. They shall start to feel much less energetic and enthusiastic, and feel as if the part of the body touching Lord Squishy is burnt, even though heat will not aggravate these effects. Pokemon may be reluctant to hit Lord Squishy with attacks that involve physical contact. These effects are much more potent on Grass Types. If the Pokemon is not in physical contact with Lord Squishy, these effects shall start fading away on the referee's discretion. Due to living in the swamp, Lord Squishy never learned how to use Mirror Coat, Counter, Recover and Memento.

Gati: Level 1 Male Nincada

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Nincada (Bug/Ground): Nincada are very good diggers and can Dig with speed and ease. If there are trees in the arena, Nincada may Dig underground and gain a moderate amount of health from the tree roots by sucking nutrients from them. During this, Nincada may not attack.
Hidden Power: Rock

Sunhairi: Level 1 Female Shiny Swablu

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Swablu (Normal/Flying): Swablu's song-based attacks are slightly more effective than normal. On a cloudy day, Swablu can be sightly difficult to see in the air. They are strong fliers and surprisingly fast but aren't as agile as some others.
Hidden Power: Electric

Prithviraj: Level 1 Genderless Shiny Golett

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Golett (Ground/Ghost): Golett are inorganic. Though slow and robotic, they are quite heavy and bulky for their size, allowing them to deal slightly more damage from physical attacks. They are permanently solid and cannot change in to the other states for extended periods, though they can become ethereal for a few seconds to lessen damage from attacks. They cannot levitate or fly in any way.
Prithviraj, in the past, resembled a Golurk. He is as old as Vishaal and Sunhairi, having existed even before the birth of Regigigas. At that time, his size was immense -- not much less than the legendary Groudon. His footsteps shook the earth, although he was earthbound. Due to his immense weight and affinity for the earth, he was unable to fly. However, there came a great catastrophe. Prithviraj could withstand much more than most Pokemon, but even his strength had limits. Even as Vishaal retreated to the depths of the ocean trenches, falling into a deep sleep, Prithviraj managed to protect himself by unleashing an immense amount of energy from the crack on his body, which, at the time was not sealed. This caused Prithviraj to swiftly grow smaller, however, and his characteristics turned into that of a Golett. He soon sealed the crack, not wanting to let his remaining energy escape.

In this state, Prithviraj was shielded from the disaster by the energy he released, which formed a barrier all around him. Afterwards, he fell into a deep sleep, one which could not end by itself. Eventually, the barrier was worn down, and he was sealed inside a lot of rubble, but it managed to do enough for him to survive the catastrophe. In the present era, the squad eventually encountered the ruins that Prithviraj was still sleeping under. Sensing the immense amount of strength emanating from the Golett. The group managed to awaken him, and for a mighty, ancient being who had been rudely awakened, Prithviraj was very calm. He now keeps peace between Vishaal and Sunhairi, acting as the mediator whenever they are in conflict. Even though he has lost his former, unthinkable might due to the disaster, he still possesses an immense amount of skill in manipulating the earth.

Hidden Power: Fairy

Signature Trait: Grey Clay

Prithviraj is able to use Fissure. Prithviraj is also capable of manipulating even terrains that are extremely hard and tough. His ability to manipulate the terrain with moves like Fissure and Earthquake is far greater than that of any ordinary Pokemon. Prithviraj is no longer able to use Focus Punch and Magic Coat.

Agnichhipkali: Level 1 Male Charmeleon

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Charmeleon (Fire): Charmeleon are the fastest of their line on the ground, though not the most agile. They are harder to scare, but are more easily angered or confused. They have flaming tails, which can be used for illumination and may burn foes if there is prolonged contact. As starter Pokémon, their Fire-type attacks are slightly more powerful when they drop below 1/4 health.
Agnichhipkali has always loved basking in the Sun, like most other Fire Types. He would lay on the ground, face-down and curled up, and allow the flames of his tail to be strengthened by the heat. Besides, he enjoyed the streaks of sunlight providing warmth to his entire body. Due to this, he spent much of his time just lazing around, the relaxing experience making him feel quite sluggish. He is often reluctant to move from his position once he gets into it, and is usually quite displeased when the Sun begins to set. However, he simply goes to sleep at this time, not wanting to be awake when he cannot bask under the Sun.

Despite this, however, Agnichhipkali is an energetic and enthusiastic battler, and it would appear that it is one of the few exercises that he actually enjoys. Due to spending so much time basking in the Sun, he seems to have got used to it, and even absorbed quite a bit of it. He now utilizes the power of the Sun in his matches, each of his battles filled with light. It is as if he is a tiny Sun himself now.

Hidden Power: Water

Signature Move: Solar Explosion

Agnichhipkali surrounds himself with bright blue fire, before releasing a burst of it towards his opponent. This move inflicts significant Fire Type damage and costs significant Fire Type energy. It will likely leave targets with blurry vision due to the brightness of the move. Agnichhipkali forgot how to use Belly Drum due to being so lazy.

Sardi: Level 1 Female Snorunt

Spoiler: show
Quote:
Snorunt (Ice): Snorunt have powerful jaws that allow them to eat ice and snow. If there is ice or snow in the arena, Snorunt may eat the ice or snow using a move, restoring good health and energy once a battle. If the snow is tainted or poisoned, it will harm them instead. Their biting attacks are 10% more effective than normal. They are adept at hiding in blizzards and can see through them easily. They can see in the dark.
Hidden Power: Ground

I would assume 6/9 since it's a levelling match, not an RF, but 4/6 would be no skin off my back.

Man I wish I'd bought my pink Shellos so we could have a Shell-off. Ah well. Matilda, you're up.

Set up a spikes layer between the two of you, then send a sludge bomb volley.

A match like this needs little introduction. It has no frills and no gimmicks. Simply two trainers battling; little more and nothing less. After the customary handshake, one trainer, after due thought, releases Lord Squishy, a Shellos. A somewhat peculiar choice on an arena such as this, but certain to be an effective one. The response from the other trainer is a Venipede, christened Matilda. A very interesting matchup indeed.

Matilda kicks off the battle, suddenly rolling into a ball and spinning around. Spikes fly out of her spinning form, littering most of the area between her and Lord Squishy. The Shellos has no intention, however, of trying to get close just yet. Instead, the Lord's strategy is to call up forces a lot more Ancient; a Powerful brown orb forms in front of him before swiftly flying at Matilda. The shot finds its mark expertly, the Venipede caught off guard by a very painful first blow. Not wanting to leave her opponent totally undamaged, Matilda retaliates before Lord Squishy knows it; in the blink of an eye, several bubbles of Sludge are in the air and heading towards the Shellos. Even though he's ready for it, the Shellos can't get off the Surf until a moment too late. Though three of the projectiles swish harmlessly by, two of the bubbles explode like Bombs on Lord Squishy. However, he manages to just barely keep riding on the wave, which shortly thereafter splashes onto Matilda, neatly avoiding and washing up some of the Spikes that had been placed.

Matilda got pummeled a little for the first round, but is fine for the time being, while Lord Squishy took little damage. Both pokemon are still fresh and good to go.

Lord Squishy's tactics worked pretty well last round, so he sees no reason why to stop. He turns his inner thermostat to cold as he breathes in deeply; the resulting exhalation is a gust of Icy, freezing Wind, chilling the cold-blooded Venipede deeply. However, Matilda is just fine with sitting and turreting, and she spews out a sudden blast of Toxic liquid, drenching the Shellos. Very luckily for Lord Squishy, it doesn't get in his eyes, but that's a small comfort. However, even as the poison seeps into Squishy, he's preparing his next attack. Another deep breath, and another blast: this time the Water looks very Muddy as it drenches Matilda right back. However, it's very difficult to aim at a Venipede's eyes, and even harder to actually hit them. The blast of murky water doesn't really manage to blind Matilda much, leaving her completely free to start absorbing mass amounts of sunlight. By the time Lord Squishy realises what's happening, the massive Solarbeam is already on its way. One split second later, it crashes into the Water-type with an almighty explosion. Of course, it's going to take much more than just one attack to put Lord Squishy down, but the poison now completely in his bloodstream might make it easier...

Matilda slipped just below the two-thirds mark, while Lord Squishy is still a good bit ahead. They're fairly equal in energy, and wouldn't mind a breather after a couple of stressful opening rounds.

The only upside to using Venipede is that considering your options doesn't take very long.

Venoshock for now.

Neither pokemon has really caught their breath in the last couple of rounds, but both know there's no time for that just yet. Keeping with how this battle has gone- and will continue going, it seems- Matilda stays right where she is and fires. This time it's a potent mixture of various chemicals, and the very moment they touch the Shellos's skin the Venoshock reacts violently, causing Lord Squishy to shriek in sudden pain. He has the last laugh this round, however, as even before the pain really dies away he's repeating a tried and tested maneuver: he calls upon his Ancient Powers, and they pick up the phone. The lobbed ball of Rock energy causes the Venipede to squeak even louder than Lord Squishy did, but if she thinks she'll get more than a few moments to nurse her wounds, she's only too wrong. Lord Squishy breathes in deeply several times, and then unleashes the Blizzard. Unnerved already by the preparation, and now seeing a massive amount of ice and wind and sleet coming right at her, Matilda finally starts moving, scurrying left in hopes to avoid it. She's only slightly successful, though, taking the vast majority of the attack. The only consolation is that in a stroke of luck, she's managed to avoid freezing despite the Muddy Water the previous round...though one more might be the dull purple glow from Lord Squishy to end the round.

Matilda isn't too far away from having only a third of her health left, though she did manage to bring her foe below the two-thirds mark. She also enjoys a large energy advantage, especially in the short-term. Lord Squishy's going to be slow to react for a while, and he also blew all of his Ice and most of his Rock.

There's a long wait for this round to start, as Lord Squishy takes several seconds to catch his breath after a stint of high-energy rounds, while Matilda's content to wait for her opponent. Eventually, however, the Shellos gathers together enough energy to create another huge wave of water from thin air. This time, though, Lord Squishy doesn't Surf on it. Matilda's more than ready for the attack, and scarcely has the wave formed before a mound crashes out of the Lawn arena, sending the Venipede flying through the air(with the greatest of ease), easily avoiding the Surf and landing straight on top of Lord Squishy, causing a squeal of pain. But even before it dies away, Matilda spits out more of the same, another Venoshock rattling through Lord Squishy's entire system, augmented by the same affliction that causes him to glow purple again as the round ends.

Matilda clawed back the health battle and now has a bit of a lead. Energy-wise both pokemon have used a chunk over a third. Lord Squishy enjoyed a breather, though it could have been less taxing.

An interesting aspect of this round is which pokemon can attack first. Though Matilda processed her orders first, she's breathing just a little heavier than Lord Squishy...but in the end, the difference is little. The third round of reactive toxins give a third round of Venoshock to all of the Shellos's systems just before he strikes, but it's merely a catalyst for him to unleash all of his Frustrations. Though the general shape of Lord Squishy means this is mostly in the form of headbutts, it's still more than effective in getting the job done. At the end of it all, Matilda's left battered and bruised, but Lord Squishy's still not content. Upgrading from ancient, he now calls upon his Hidden Powers, as white orbs spiral around him, and fly directly at...the Protective shield that the Venipede easily forms around herself.

Heavy breathing all round, as Matilda could use a breather, but has a slight energy lead in the long term. The long term might be nonexistent, however, as both pokemon slipped below the final third, Matilda having a large advantage in that regard too.

Okay I don't know what just happened but at the time of writing the reffing MtG had ordered Frustration, Hidden Power, Trump Card if both hit so I'm sorry but I had started reffing before you deleted.

I'm pretty sure this is still the case for HP and that Shellos doesn't natively have any flying moves, although I could be wrong on either count. In case I'm right though I figured I'd give you the chance to re-order.

Also Rangeet; toxic damage this round?

I did count Toxic damage, just forgot to mention it. And yeah that was the one and only use of HP, I didn't mention it in the reffing because I assumed it was obvious. I do get a bit lazy with type energy sometimes.
