Misdreavus UPN PASBL Gym Match: Sneezey Defends Against Zelphy

So, spooky, spooky Ghost Gym match, in the spooky, spooky Last Stop during the spooky-spookiest month of the year.

Here are our stats:
Sneezey12 vs. Zelphon
6 vs 6
Singles
Equiall
Slapstick
96 Hour DQ
Switch = OK
The Last Stop

Spoiler: show
The Last Stop
The Last Stop looks like a simple bog, but it is not entirely of this realm. It is the final resting place of souls who have yet to cross to the other side. The trees here are all petrified, and while there are enough of them to provide decent cover, they are spaced out well enough to allow Pokemon of somewhat large size to pass unhindered. The real quirk to this place, however, is the somewhat dense fog, which cannot be blown away. Pokemon not of the Ghost type will have some difficulty seeing through it, as it is not normal fog, and is the barrier to the other side. Additionally, the fog gets thicker with each Pokemon that is knocked out during the battle, starting as a slight irritation at the beginning but able to become bad enough that the average Pokemon won't be able to see far from their own face, though this requires a full ten Pokemon total from both sides to become as such. The bog itself is fairly shallow, so Ground and Rock attacks may be used normally, however it is deep enough that it can be used for Water attacks that rely on the arena. In the center of the woods, where the battle starts, is a circular platform raised a foot out of the bog made of clay enscribed with odd simbols that glow an eery blue to show the direction of any Pokemon that are not of the Ghost type. There are five torches on this platform lit with blue flame. Four spaced evenly along the perimeter and one in the center. The torches cannot be blown out or put out in any way other than being fed upon by a Ghost, which costs a move and restores light energy. All battles will take place at night under the full moon, having an effect on attacks that use moonlight similarly to if Sunny Day was to be used at night. The moon may give off a lot of light, but this is the main reason that visibility is so clear, and as the fog gets thicker the combatants will be less and less able to use the moon to it's full advantageous effects. Weather based attacks, Terrain moves, and moves that change or create new dimensions in any way such as Magic Room will not work here, thanks to the arena sitting firmly between two planes of existence.

Either "enscribed", "simbols", and "eery" are typos for inscribed, symbols, eerie, respectively, or spooky flavour.

SPOOKY TYPOS WILL STEAL YOUR SOULS!

Anyway, we all know how this goes. Squad up by each, starting with Sneeze, the defending GL. First selection by Zelphy with his squad, followed by Sneezey's with orders, and then Zelphy orders. I ref, haunted creepiness happens.

As it is Equiall 6, all Pokemon will be able to assume their highest natural evolutionary forms, and will be considered to be level six. Uplevels will be level 7, as is standard.

Switch = OK means switching is open on all sides for both Gym Leader and Challenger. Abuse it if you can.

Let's go

Sculptor's Token
The Sculptor's Token symbolises one's skill in navigating and manipulating the beautiful surroundings of a winter wonderland. It can be attached to Ice type pokémon only and greatly enhances their species characteristics. The wearer becomes very sure footed and will maintain full mobility and stability regardless of the condition of the arena floor. Ice type moves which have a secondary effect such as freezing or stat drops are twice as likely to have the effect triggered when used by the wearer, these effects also being slightly more potent. The token also provides fortitude and good cheer, rendering its wearer more resistant to moves which negatively affect its mental state such as Supersonic and Swagger. This token may be purchased during the Christmas 2013 event and may be purchased up to one time per trainer.
Attached to Neuge the Froslass

Birdkeeper's Token
The Birdkeeper's Token signifies freedom of thought and movement that transcends the art of the possible. It can be attached to Flying type pokémon and greatly enhances their natural abilities. They will be significantly faster and more agile than their peers in whatever their usual mode of transportation is, able to travel further and with more precision and dexterity than others without expending much more energy. At ref's discretion, they will be more able to dodge attacks and harder to evade when using their own. This token may be purchased during the week long Easter event and may be purchased up to one time per trainer.
Attached to Perdita the Drifblim

Firebreather's Token
The Firebreather’s Token burns brightly with the dazzling light of liberty and freedom. It can be attached to Fire-type Pokémon only and greatly enhances their offensive abilities. The wearer’s Fire-type moves will burn hotter than usual and cause small amounts of splash damage as they erupt upon the target, the violent explosions spreading shock and awe in the immediate area. Fire-type moves which have a secondary effect such as burning or item destruction are twice as likely to have the effect triggered when used by the wearer, these effects also being slightly more potent. This item causes the move Fling to deal Fire-type damage if it is thrown. This token may be purchased during the week long Independence Day event and may be purchased up to one time per trainer.
Attached to Azura the Chandelure

Imogen: Female Jellicent (level 6)
Biography: Imogen spent her entire life in a dark, haunted bog, filled with rotting corpses and fouled water. The lack of a proper clean water source meant that almost everything around her was mud, so naturally she picked up a few moves from the local inhabitants.
Hidden Power: Fighting
Special Training: Eeeeeewwww...
Imogen can use Mud Shot, Mud Sport, and Muddy Water. However, due to the lack of a clean water source where she once lived, Imogen can no longer use Water Sport, BubbleBeam, Rain Dance, Absorb, Surf, or Waterfall.

Perdita: Female Drifblim (level 6)
Biography: Perdita loves nothing more than to float about happily in the sky, but she just doesn't like it when people try to bring he down. Inspired by Swords Dance and Reflect, she has created a way to attempt to stop this from happening.
Hidden Power: Ground
Special Defense: Spin Sphere (Ghost)
Perdita spins quickly in place why producing Ghost energy, causing a swirling sphere to appear around her. This sphere will bounce orbs and rocks back in the exact direction from which they came, with slightly reduced power. Any other moves that hit the sphere are harmlessly nulled a la Protect. Energy use is equal to that of Reflect, and Spin Sphere may only be used once per battle.

Gashka: Genderless Rotom (level 6)
Bio: Gashka decided that unlike others of her species she would not possess appliances to gain power, and instead focused on her Ghostly ways, more precisely, mixing them with her Electric prowess to neutralize certain electrical fields.
Hidden Power: Ice
Special Training: Neutralize
Gashka’s plasma is specially tuned to the electrical fields of moves and Pokeballs in such a way that any move such as Stealth Rock, which would normally place itself around the field after hitting and await the next change in an electrical field that is produced by a new Pokemon switching in, instead has its tuning removed. This causes the move to become completely useless after striking Gashka, just sitting around the arena where they normally would, and not striking upon Pokemon switching. This applies both to moves that are used on Gashka first and to moves that have been sitting in the arena and strike Gashka when she switches in. Gashka can no longer use Volt Switch.

Azura: Female Chandelure (level 6)
Bio: Preferring to fight at night, Azura suffers from her Fire attacks, among other things, never being able to be affected by the brightened sun. As such, she has learned to use the sun's reflection on the moon as well as the light from the distant stars in the same manner as the sun itself.
Hidden Power: Fighting
Special Training: Azura's Star
Azura can use any moves that would normally require sunlight at night as though the sun itself was still out, however Sunny Day must first be in effect either by use of the move or through simulation in the arena. Azura can no longer use Flash, Haze, or Embargo.

Neuge: Female Froslass (level 6)
Bio: New to her ghostly form, Neuge seeks to bring others to the same sad state as herself.
Hidden Power: Fighting
Special Training: Death's Cold Embrace
When Neuge passes through something or something passes through her while she is in Ethereal form, a thin layer of ice will form over the surface of whatever she "touched". While easy enough to break off that most Pokemon will be unhindered by it, even after breaking off the ice will make Pokemon not used to the cold feel chilled and cause their actions to be slower as if they were effected by the secondary effects of an Icy Wind.

Pandora: Female Spiritomb (level 6)
Bio: One hundred and eight spirits, each a mischievous soul trying to escape their prison. Will you be the one to open the box?
Hidden Power: Flying
Special Training: Pandora's Box
Upon being knocked out due to loss of health, the foe that knocked Pandora out will become cursed. This curse causes the affected Pokemon to be slightly more vulnerable to attacks for the next few rounds, typically wearing off after a full three rounds, with the effects reducing the opponent's defenses in the same amount as a Cosmic Power would raise them. Pandora must have at least a Major amount of energy remaining upon being knocked out in order for this effect to take place.

Dewott Round One: Scene It

We open on a view of the bog, spooky and dark, with the moon our only source of light. It shines well now, but there's a bad fog just waiting to rise. Pan out slowly, showing the details: the shallow bog, the petrified woods, the symbols of ancient origin, inactive at the moment.

Cut to Zelphon. For the purposes of this script, Zelphon will be played by a turnip. Our turnip tosses a Poke Ball out into the arena, releasing a lithe classy cat, a Persian.

Cut to Sneezey, played by a brown pony in a fedora. He kicks his own Poke Ball into the arena, letting out a beast of 108 corrupt and damned souls, a mighty Spiritomb.

Pan over the respective Pokemon while these are narrated:
Quote:

Persian (Normal): Meowth and Persian can see in the dark, and are well adapted to moving silently so that no one can hear them move. They are able climbers and have excellent poise and balance. As a cat, they will usually land on their feet, and can slip through gaps that might seem too thin at first glance with little drop in speed. A Persian's Payday attack produces more coins and does more damage than normal. Persian is a proud Pokémon and thus more susceptible to moves that induce anger.

Spiritomb (Ghost/Dark): Spiritomb can never become completely solid and their body are always ethereal. Despite being locked out of the physical state, they take only 10% extra damage from special moves instead of the usual amounts. The keystone which they are bound to is always solid. As a move, Spiritomb may retreat into their keystone for defense or to hide, taking only 50% damage from all attacks when hiding like this. When KO'd or asleep, Spiritomb will go into their Keystone automatically. Spiritomb are still able to pass through walls, but cannot extend their body more than 5 feet away from the Keystone and, due to the stone's pull, can only pass through walls for a limited amount of time. They can levitate. Despite being weighed down by the Keystone, they are actually very nimble and fast in the air, but will expend minor energy per round energy to maintain levitation. Spiritomb are resistant to Curses.
Luck the Persian starts the battle scene by jumping in quickly, swinging a white, glowing paw at Pandora the Spiritomb. It passes through Pandora's form, leaving a slight stinging sensation and only very little damage. It doesn't manage to be shocking enough to Fake her Out, either, her enthusiasm and the reduced hit letting her power through. She lifts her keystone up as she backs up a bit, spirit and keystone getting closer to a tree that is conveniently right there. She sends out a Snarl, a vicious noise laced with energy deep as night. It hits Persian, and does a nice click of damage. No fear response, however, from the proud cat.

Pandora finishes taking cover behind a tree, and decides to have some fun. She extends her Shadow and creeps it along the ground, Sneakily slamming it into Luck. He decides it's time to Play, and leaps over to where Pandora took cover. He tries to look endearing as he bats at the keystone, but for some reason, the cute act isn't working to his advantage, leaving him just dealing damage from this act of Rough trade.

Actor Status:
Pandora took the most damage here, but her energy use was a bit milder and she's not too worried.

Luck took less damage, but still took a nice click himself. He used more energy, including most of his Fairy.

Luck and Zelphy, on deck.

Round Two: Making it Rain

Luck decides to channel his namesake and creates a several round formations of energy, solidifying and hardening them into coins, and shooting them in a flurry at Pandora. I do wish reffing this move would increase my Pay for this match, if the Day ever comes, since it's a 6v6 on Switch = OK. Pandora doesn't like this one bit, and decides to use Luck's own boost against him, grabbing the coins with a telekinetic Psychic force, and tossing them back at him. This causes damage to Luck and none to Pandora.

Luck then forms an orb of Shadowy energy, hurling the burst at Pandora's more ethereal parts. The Ball makes a solid hit, but, unfortunately for Luck, he gets a nasty bit of splash from being so damned close. Then Pandora hurls a Toxic sludge all over Luck, it starting to soak in.

The turnip's Persian took less damage than Pandora, but not by a huge margin. He holds a nice lead, but not an insurmountable one. He used most of his ghost energy, and overall, does not need a break yet but will soon.

The pony's accursed keystone took more damage, not quite to half, but getting there. She still has a fair bit over half of her Psychic energy, great use there, and Poison's under half. She's fresher.

So like, Pay Day costs less energy than Psychic and we're in melee range of each other, how comes Psychic was able to outspeed Pay Day to the extend of complete damage mitigation?

Part bad luck, part the fact that Spiritomb's body is all erratic which gave a small window, part that XX passes through ethereals so even slight hitting of the ghosty body was easily rebounded without damage. Some did pass through but none really hit the keystone, the only place it would have damaged.

If it helps neither was a completely full hit on Persian. Psychic wave lost a little power and not all the coins rebounded.

Dewott Round Three: Scraping By

Our keystone, Pandora, decides to go with trickery, and forms a ball of light, before releasing it in a wave of pulsing energy. This Ray reaches Luck, who closes his eyes before it catches him, managing to keep himself from getting Confused. Pandora sends out another Pulsing wave, this one less ghostly, but rather, imbued with Darkness, which washes over Luck. And Luck cringes, giving in to the fear, unable to perform his next move.

He then cringes slightly more, as the toxic starts to take effect.

Good news for Luck, he got a total breather. Bad news is he lost most of his lead and poison is starting to hit him.
Pandora is less fresh but isn't quite in need of a breather yet. No damage.

Was my sig taken into consideration for the fear?

If so, Luck let's try another Hyper Voice, then go for a Facade to the keystone. don't lose sight of your foe.

Dewott Round Four: Turtling

Luck sucks in a bit of air, charging energy into his mouth as he lets out a loud screech. Energy laces into the sound as the Voice-powered attack flies at Pandora. She sees it coming, however, and strategically ducks into her keystone, blocking a lot of the hit as the Hypersonic screech washes over her. Luck's not happy about his attack getting blocked, and he taps into the pain he's feeling from the poison. He pumps himself up, putting on a tough Facade as he lunges at his foe. Pandora pops out of her keystone, and raises an ethereal faux-limb high, diverting Luck momentarily. While he's distracted, she sends the energy into her keystone and slams it into Luck, Sucker Punching him and knocking him back a bit, completely stopping his strike in-process.

Luck cringes again as the poison courses through his veins, really starting to chip away at his health.

Luck lost his lead to Pandora, and Pandora caught her breather. It's close.

Sneezey to order.

Dewott Round Five: Up And At 'Em

Pandora starts to rise up, and she sees a cat climbing up towards her. She can't have this, no no no, so she shoots out a Pulsing wave of energy, trying to blast the Persian back. The Dark energy holds Luck back for just a second, as he jumps the branches. He slows a bit as he focuses his mind on terrible, Nasty thoughts. He's devising a horrible, evil Plot. He leaps up, more revitalised, to show that's not all he's got.

Pandora looks down to see if she knocked the classy cat off her tail, but the feline's after her like a ball of ghostly string, and he screeches a growl at her, letting loose with an Uproar of sound. This hurts Pandora, so she retaliates by shooting out a glowy ghosty Wind. She herself glows Ominously as she does the technique, and... it shorts out, leaving her boostless.

Luck cringes again slightly as the poison takes even more of a toll.

Luck holds a slight energy lead, but may need to get a breather within a couple rounds. Not a dire need. Pandora is winning the health race.

It's close both ways, boys. Zelphy to order

"Go into your keystone to reduce damage from the wind, then quick charge Hyper Beam to pop the orb before it gets to you and strike."

Dewott Round Six: Stall

Luck breathes in, charging energy in his throat. He lets it out in a mighty breath of Wind and ice, the frigid flurry washing towards Pandora. She merely calmly sucks herself back into her keystone, taking refuge as the Icy attack washes over her, dealing significantly reduced damage.

Luck decides that since Ice wasn't the best weapon, maybe Water would be. He stores energy into an orb, forming the ball out of the Pulsing power. He takes aim as Pandora starts to seep out of her keystone, and sends the orb flying. Pandora glows for a second, charging up some energy. She breaks the charge significantly early, shooting off a comparatively small, weak Beam at the orb. It shoots through the fragile orb, but luckily for the Persian, the angle is slightly off and he's able to dodge the beam closely. Water spills between them from the Hyper attack's aftermath.

Luck cringes yet again as the poison hits his system even harder.

Luck is still good for two, but would appreciate a breather. He's losing the damage race still. Pandora also closed the energy gap. Luck's down to a bit over half on Ice and Water.
