Mamoswine UPN PASBL: Gym Scenario! Connor vs. Mercutio

Quote:
Connor (Acting GL) vs. Mercutio (Challenger)
4 vs. 4
Singles
Switch = Gym
Equilevel 6
Slapstick
72 Hour DQ
The jaws of the cavern lie wide open, the blistering winds billowing in from the outside as sand stirs in waves. Sitting in his throne of sandstone, the lord of the unknown, Connor, awaits his first battle alongside his bastions of the Cave of Wonders. One trainer flies into the sandy cave, rolling to the centre of the field before recalling his Talonflame. Jumping up like a loon, the referee finally sets himself up on a raised plateau of shale, although still lower than the Gym Leader's platform, fanning himself wildly with a paper fan due to the dizzying heat. Finally, a worthy opponent appears. His name be Mercutio, former leader of the Golden Valley and the Beer Gardens behind the Queen's Head. Stepping into the belly of the beast, the Tiger's Maw slams shut…

The Tiger's Maw
Spoiler: show
Challengers to the Ground Gym shall have to brave the unknown and set foot within the dangerous confines of The Tiger's Maw. Concealed within the ancient deserts of Agrabah sits the Cave of Wonders, and the huge tiger-faced effigy stands as the battlefield for the challenge. The innards of the cave itself are spacious, but disrepair has seen it filled with loosely packed sand, stretching a good 35 feet deep. The cave ceiling rests a mere 15 feet above the surface of the sand, leaving little room for flying Pokemon to climb height. Despite the loose nature of the sand, Ground- type energy travels more readily here, allowing moves such as Bulldoze and Earthquake to function perfectly. Scattered within the sand itself are numerous rocks which are available for manipulation, and many of these break the surface of the sand. The diameter of the mostly circular arena stands at 100 feet. Overlooking the sands stand the trainer boxes, the Gym Leader situated in the north opposite the entrance to the cave, where the challenger will stand.

Conditions within the cave reflect those of the outside desert. The air is incredibly dry and arid, the extreme temperatures seeming comfortable to the native Ground and Rock types, but causing those unused to such temperatures to become uncomfortable. The sheer lack of moisture will make even Grass types uncomfortable, and the lack of sunlight will cause moves such as Solarbeam and Synthesis to become impossible. However, Grass types which also have a secondary Ground typing will be much more accustomed to the dry air, and will not suffer this discomfort. Water- and Ice- types will likewise feel uncomfortable in the extreme conditions, and attacks of these type will suffer a drop in power because of the heated air. Although the entrance to the cave closes as soon as trainers step within the maw of the sentient construct, the innards are illuminated entirely by eerie torches scattered around the perimeter.

Torches flickering alight, both Connor and Mercutio exchange glances at each other before the pair reveal their champions for this battle within the great deserts of Agrabah!

Alright then, Kush. We've already had a scenario which didn't end spectacularly for me, so let's see if I can show I haven't learned. Hopefully this is a good one.

Level 7

Mikoto: Female Flygon
Flygon: Flygon are not as proficient at digging as their basic form but can still conceal themselves well within sandy environments and fight more enthusiastically in them. Flygon’s shielded eyes are adapted to seeing in a sandstorm and such are not hindered in heavy sand or fog. Flygon can see in the dark and are resistant to light based attacks targeted at the eyes such as Flash. They are agile fliers, though not exceptionally fast, and are familiar with the Bug type. Because they flap their wings so quickly and produce a near ultrasonic but distracting noise, attacks which use their wings to strike have a 10% flinch chance against its targets.
Biography: Mikoto is an introvert. A very contemplative Pokemon, she spends much of her time alone, suspended in her own personal reality. However, this extended foray into her own mind began to manifest strange powers within her. She became able to manipulate small electric currents, as well as being able to manifest a small voltage within her own body. However, she was unable to control this ability beyond a certain point. Instead, she found that through her natural manipulation of dust or sand, she could multiply these effects externally.
Signature Training - Tokiwadai's Railgun:
Using Heavy Ground- type energy, Mikoto creates a sphere of rapidly revolving dust, which begins to condense before accruing a massive static charge through friction. This sphere is then launched towards the opponent, striking for Significant Ground- type damage and leaving the opponent with severe paralysis. This is, for all intents and purposes, a Ground- typed Zap Cannon.
Hidden Power: Ground

Level 6

Feene: Female Hippowdon
Hippowdon: Hippowdon are full of sand and are able to use the sand in their body to produce Sandstorms, instead of relying on the sand in the arena. Their Sandstorm attack is more persistent than those used by other Pokémon and will last longer and deal more damage. Their biting attacks will deal 1.2x damage. Unlike real life hippos, Hippowdon prefers dry, arid environments and will fight more enthusiastically in such conditions.
Biography: Feene is, fundamentally, not a very fast fighter. Her physical prowess is unmatched, her defensive potential second to none - but this matters for naught when she can't even catch her opponent. This critical flaw has troubled her all her life, but it has also imbued within her a fine appreciation for sand. Sand can be used to entrap opponents, used to slow their motions ... used to allow Feene to strike.
Signature Training - Shifting Sand Land:
Consuming Moderate energy per round, Feene can manipulate any body of sand in order to entrap her opponent somewhat. This causes the motions to become sluggish as they wade through the ever shifting foothold beneath them, resulting in a 25% speed decrease for every round this ability is active. This ability is passive, and should be treated as a permanent decrease to the opponent's speed.
Hidden Power: Ground

Shiemi: Female Torterra
Torterra: Due to the tree growing out of them, Torterra are impossible to knock completely on their back. They are also able to blend into their surroundings on certain terrain, making them difficult to spot in forest areas. They are slow and ungainly. They are experts at manipulating natural surroundings and attacks like Earthquake and Frenzy Plant will take a little less energy to use. Attacks on their shell do slightly less damage. As starter Pokémon, their Grass-type attacks are slightly more powerful when they drop below 1/4 health.
Biography: Shiemi, despite her originally sunny demeanour, holds a much darker side. Having been raised amongst some of the most notorious members of her species, she has adopted a defined liking for inflicting suffering upon others, and her hardened heart is reflected almost perfectly in her vicious play style.
Signature Move - Queen of Thorns:
Using Significant Grass- type energy, Shiemi causes numerous patches of desert thorns to form on the opponent's side of the field. These thorns are incredibly hardy, and can grow in almost any environment, with the only exception being Concrete. These thorns will immediately grow and strike the active Pokemon for Moderate Grass- type damage before shrinking back, growing and striking again when the next opponent is sent in. The stricken area will have a 30% chance to become reddened and sore, akin to the effects of Crush Claw.
Hidden Power: Fire

Jormungand: Male Steelix
Steelix: Steelix are large Pokémon and are able to burrow through hard materials such as concrete with their Dig attack easily. They are also more resistant to extreme pressures and heat, though they take the usual damage from Fire moves. They can see in the dark. They have higher physical defence compared to other Steel-types. They are also familiar with the Rock type.
Biography: Jormungand is keenly aware of the way his immense size can hinder him in battle. Although his reactions and movements are by no means sluggish, he has a deep understanding of the way his hefty body can make him a much easier target, and as such, he began to dedicate his time to learning how to deal with this crippling fault. At first he was stumped, his efforts all in vain, until he witnessed the training of Aisu. Watching what the Mamoswine could do with her fabricate chains instilled the seed of an idea within the mind of Jormungand, which quickly bloomed.
Signature Move - Gates of Valhalla:
Expending Major Ground- type energy, Jormungand creates a stunning replica of the gates of Valhalla. This construct will immediately open, spewing out heavy chains which ensnare the opposing Pokemon. These chains will remain hanging to the opponent for the following 5 turns, reducing their speed by 25% for the duration of this time. The Gates of Valhalla deals no damage, and will consequently spew the chains at every opposing Pokemon sent into battle. Jormungand may no longer use Curse, Stealth Rock or Iron Head.
Hidden Power: Ground

Kurome: Female Marowak
Marowak: A Marowak's face is covered by a skull, which it will not remove willingly. If the helmet is shattered, it will cost 1 SP or 1 battle for Marowak to go and find another. Marowak may not use its respective bone attacks if it is not holding its bone. Its Skull Bash attack takes slightly less energy than normal to use. Marowak can see in the dark.
Biography: Kurome has, for all of her life, held a strong connection with deaht. Beyond having lost her only family at an early age, all of those that she comes into contact with ultimately meet an untimely death. This caused the youngling to slowly spiral into the depths of depression, wherein she began to manifest the most grisly of abilities. Carved deep within her soul, a single name, dominion over death ... Yatsufusa.
Signature Move - Yatsufusa:
Holding her bone to the ground, Kurome allows a Major amount of Poison- type energy to flow into her surroundings. This causes beings of pure energy to rise from the ground, rushing towards Kurome's opponent and assaulting them brutally. This attack will deal Heavy Poison- type damage, and has a 30% chance to leave the target with Toxic poisoning. Kurome has Poison- type energy enough to use this attack twice per battle, and may no longer use Toxic, Stealth Rock or Swords Dance.
Hidden Power: Ghost

Surt: Male Camerupt
Camerupt: Camerupt tend to be only slightly-less apathetic than their Numel bretheren, although their higher intelligence gives them a better ability to follow orders. However, they become extremely angry when struck in the face. A Camerupt struck in the face by an opponent will focus almost exclusively on that target to the exclusion of all other concerns unless something else starts to become a bigger problem or gets in the way of Camerupts's revenge. Until its target has fallen Camerupt will be extremely emotional and responsive but more vulnerable to confusion. Camerupt will also be winded for a few moments after its beserker rage has ended, with longer periods of rage meaning more downtime. A trainer may write a note in their bio stating that their Camerupt has been trained not to enter in to the enraged state in this way.
Biography: Surt has always felt a much stronger connection to his mastery over flames than his dominion over ground. This has left him a fiery temper, ever determined to crush his foes under his iron clad hoof. Stomping from area to area, he left nothing but razed fields wherever he went, and everyone who witnessed this maddening tirade only ever spoke of a single, catastrophic phenomena.
Signature Move - Crimson Devil:
Expelling flame from his hump, Surt creates a towering plume of flame, before manipulating it into a thick column of swirling flame. Sending this crashing towards the foe, the construct will engulf the target, inflicting Major- Fire type damage while costing equivalent energy. Should this strike an airborne foe, not only will this attack deal slightly more damage, it will have a 20% chance to cause Confusion as the target is battered around within the vortex.
Hidden Power: Ground

Oh I come from a land, from a far away place, where the city bound workers groan.
And I'm happy to see, that you're fighting with me, you will lose it, but hey, can't moan.

If your squad measures up, and you work out a plan, and your ASB prowess shows.
You will find that I say, that you're read to play, with the ASB's veterans now!

Piggy likes Ground tyyyyyyypes, he likes three moverrrrrrs.
More often than not, he'll squander the pot, on a burst of type spaaaaaaaaaam!

Piggy likes Ground tyyyyyyypes, and he wants to beat Kuuuuuuush!
But can he do well, I'll put him through hell, let's see Piggy duellllllll.

The ten minutes I spent on that were totally worth it.

Alright, thanks Kamen, good luck Connor, as ever with scenarios it's less about beating me and more about showing the LOs that you can deal with threats and disadvantages. You're lacking on items so I'll pass up that chance. Last time I think we quite conclusively proved tat your arena was shit and fossils are a terrible Gym theme. Let's see how Ground types work out! I was going to pack several Grass types but actually your squad is spectacularly terrible against Water types so I thought I'd see how that went for me.

Level 6

Death, the male Marowak; The Death of Pokémon is a noble creature. He cannot speak, lacking the vocal chords to do so, but merely makes his listeners aware of what he has said without going to the trouble of saying it to them. He is stoic and rarely shows emotions, but grows sympathetic as the eons wear on and is capable of great wrath and terrible melancholy on occasion. He often appears at significant moments on ASB history to observe, sometimes taking the souls of those unfortunate pokémon who suffer fatal injuries to their final place, whatever they believe it to be. He wears a robe of featureless black material, its folds revealing only a bony hand and an ebony skull. His signature bone takes the shape of a scythe which, though it grants him no advantage in battle, is most fearful to those pokémon on the cusp of true death. He likes cats.
Hidden Power: Ghost.
Signature Move: "Reaper Man" (Ghost); Death swings his scythe gracefully through the air, slicing at the opponent with precision forged of ages. This takes significant energy but deals major damage. It can be used only when the target at 1/4 health or lower and can only be used once per battle. Death cannot use Hyper Beam or Giga Impact.

Wheatley, the genderless Claydol; Wheatley, originally a kind of foil to the GLaDOS entity of Aperture-Science, ended up stuck in space for reasons best left out of this bio. Being dim and with a bit of a West Country accent, it wasn't long before he was knocked back down to Earth having collided with the ISS. Eventually landing in the grounds of Hoenn's Devon Research Corporation, Wheatley was equipped with an anti gravity device to replace his destructed rail transport mechanisms and set free upon an unsuspecting world. Having picked up the ability to use the portal device, Wheatley began a career as an adventurer come travelling clown, using his portal device to escape from enemies when things inevitably go bad.
Hidden Power: Dark.
Signature Move: "Portals" (Psychic); Once per round and using a single move, Wheatley can fire two portals in a single action, one blue and one orange. Portals can be fired on to any solid and roughly flat surface and in any orientation, up to 18 feet apart, the portals themselves being six feet in diameter. These portals are interconnected, effectively a tunnel between two points in space, allowing anything to travel through. Anything which enters one portal traverses the distance to the other instantly, maintaining all momentum and continuing with whatever action they were taking with no interruption or disruption. Once the portals are established, they remain in place for two rounds. However, each round, Wheatley may choose to relocate one or both of the portals to another location, resetting this timer. Creating or moving one portal costs solid energy and hapens near instantly, whilst creating or moving two at once costs heavy energy and takes a couple of seconds. As a drawback to this ability, Wheatley's phenomenal stupidity means that he is easily afflicted by all mentally affecting moves, cannot use Hyper Beam or Giga Impact and cannot use three move combinations.

Podi, the male Poliwrath;
Hidden Power: Fire.
Signature Move: "Podi Power" (Water); Coating his arms in Water type energy, Podi unleashes a flurry of punches at breathtaking speed, dealing major damage for major energy.

Ruby, the genderless Starmie; Ruby was a pokémon I captured very early in my journey. With a glowing core and an affinity for special moves, it has always been a valued member of my team. It showed great aptitude at blasting targets to smithereens with ranged moves and, over time, learned to be formidable at close range as well. However, with an aggressive trainer like myself in command, it soon figured out that it needed a way to keep its energy levels up in battle. Often, it would end up running hot after only a few minutes in battle, the toll of constantly churning out high yield attacks too much for it. To this end, it developed a trait that would allow it to use the restoring powers of water to gain back some energy. While no substitute for conservative battling, it does a great job of showing off Ruby's aquatic attributes.
Hidden Power: Dark.
Signature Trait: "Hydro Power"; At the end of every round in which Ruby is touching a decent sized body of water and not at maximum energy, it will restore a light amount of energy. Up to 1/3 of its total energy may be restored in this way. Polluted water will cause slower regeneration, with only minor energy restored, while purified or highly oxygenated water can allow for faster regeneration with mild energy restored. Only decent sized bodies of water such as a river or lake can trigger this effect. Rainfall and small puddles are insufficient. Ruby cannot use Rest or Giga Impact.

Thunder, the female Gyarados; Caught in the Lake of Rage one stormy night after a drinking binge, Thunder is a Gyarados and thus cannot lose. Hers is a tale of great struggle and pain. Her evolution necessitated a great leap atop one of Johto's greatest waterfalls, the subsequent fatigue and madness causing her to wander aimlessly until she came to the lake. She is also a Gyarados with a sense of poetry, or irony as Americans are wont to incorrectly label it. She knows that she has an Achilles heel, but she attacks it with pride and attaches it to her massive frame. Having grown from a Magikarp by leaping over a waterfall, she is quick and strong, able to lithely combat any foe. Her prowess as a leaper has followed through in to a signature move, a fierce display of aerial prowess and draconic might.
Hidden Power: Fighting.
Signature move: "Leaping Karp" (Flying); Surrounding herself with Flying energy, Thunder rushes at her target and tackles them heavily. Given enough of a run up, Thunder can launch herself many metres in to the air in order to strike airborne foes. This attack deals solid damage for considerable energy. Because of the speed and power of the attack, there is a 20% chance that foes will be confused by the attack.

The Walrus, the male Walrein; The Walrus, often noted as Wally for short, is a portly pokémon found resting on a sandy beach. He was in the process of devouring some delicious Clamperl, having trapped them by a rock for devouring with his good friend The Carpenter. I captured him before he could get his fix, intrigued by his interesting method of trapping his prey.
Hidden Power: Flying.
Signature Move: "Sealing Wax" (Normal); The Walrus sends a surge of energy through the arena, causing the foe to become sluggish and fatigued. Targets experience a 20% drop in their speed and agility, with standard boost stipulations in effect, and feel as if they have used a three mover in the preceding round. This has no effect upon their total energy. Sealing Wax can be used twice per battle, deals no damage and uses solid energy.

I'll lead off with The Walrus!

Alright I've vaguely contemplated this kind of match up and belive I know how to go about this.

Jormungand, from below. Give them a taste of the Gates of Valhalla, before putting a Heavy Slam through them.

Round 1: Wavebreaker

Smirking, Mercutio begins to sing a ditty while doing an exotic little jig, with a small string and percussion ensemble warping in to accompany him before his act ends and their presence wiped from the Cave of Wonders. Pulling out a Poke Ball from his belt, Mercutio takes the lead with The Walrus, whose blubbery bulk crashes onto the sand. Baring his tusks with pride, the Walrein can't hide the fact that he is irked by the sheer heat of the Tiger's Maw. Connor takes a glance at The Walrus, before grinning himself, tossing out a Poke Ball towards the sand! The red beam shines into the sand as the floor begins to rumble, parting as the iron mass of Jormungand rises from the depths of the cavern!

With a roar, the Steelix slams a portion of his serpentine body on the floor, the form of an ornate gate rising from the grit of the cavern before swinging open, the path to a warrior's paradise shining from beyond the portal! The Walrus beholds the majesty of these gates before chains stream out, their clanking and grinding surprising the Walrein as his body is weighed down by the holy shackles, his speed lowered significantly to prevent easy escape from attacks as well as cutting off all hopes of swift strikes with physical attacks! The Steelix named after the serpent of Midgard doesn't relent after binding down the denizen before him, rising out of the sand, cloaked in a silver aura and poised for destruction! With the hammer soon to crash down on him, The Walrus tries to make his escape, trying his hardest to project the image of the sea as water pours in from all around him! The swell growing, he rises higher and higher off the sand, the roar of waves echoing throughout the Tiger's Maw! However, there is only so much he can do as he reaches the peak of his ascent, the heat of the cavern being too much for the water! Jormungand breaks through, his colossal body battling against the waves, even arcing over the swell of two metres, as he crashes down on the puny Walrein, before sending him falling through his surge and onto the sand, beneath the steel shell of the World Serpent!

Both Pokemon have taken equal amounts of damage so far, but Jormungand has used more energy in comparison. The Walrus is slowed for the next five rounds, and is pinned by Jormungand.

I find it a touch unlikely that a Walrein in the process of evading a move by using a super effective move took completely equal damage.

Wally, Curse up and blast them with a Water Gun at an opportune moment.

Round 2: Giants trying to dodge

Okay, it was more like a smidgen more damage taken by Jormungand. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I took the Tiger's Maw to have a pseudo-Sunny Day in effect without the "Sunny", weakening Surf somewhat and not allowing it to flood the entire cave as a result. Jormungand is also REALLY flippin' big, so he was able to reach over the wave and make The Walrus go splat. Anyhoo… TO THE REF-CAVE!

With his body being crushed by the Iron Snake, all that The Walrus can do is curse his misfortune… But the misfortune is for Jormungand as the Walrein's muscles lock up, packing more physical stamina into them to withstand the weight of the Steelix on his back and retaliate in kind with greater strength! The Midgardian coils around, shifting his body to take aim at the tusked beast without letting up on the weight he is exerting on The Walrus! His forehead glowing with primordial power, a bead of stone begins to grow in size, soon becoming a rather large boulder before it falls toward The Walrus's skull! The sickening thud of rock on cranium echoes within the cavern as the Walrein raises his free flipper to nurse it. Angered, he spews out a forceful stream of water that hisses through the heated air! Taking evasive action, Jormungand dives for the sand, but it's actually really hard to miss a metal snake the size of an truck, so the Steelix gnashes his jaws in pain as his iron hide is battered by the high-pressure torrent! With Jormungand's body retreating to the ground, The Walrus braces himself for the inevitable strike, his core hit hard by the speeding mass of 400 kilograms crashes from below, flipping him over as he is pinned on his side, the World Serpent pressing down as The Walrus winces in pain!

The Walrus has a small lead on both sides of the coin, with a boost to his physical attributes, but a massive decrease in his speed overall.

Until then! Thank you for your patience!

Pump Ground energy in to your tusks and bring the floor out from under then with Fissure. Three stacking boosts a gogo! If you are trapped, use Strength to free yourself. If not, Water Gun.

Round 3: There goes the arena

With Jormungand showing who reigns supreme in the belly of the beast, he raises his tempered body off The Walrus to grant him a slight repreive, before sinking his tail into the sand, glowing with immense amounts of energy! The grains of sand begin to swirl around the Hoenn native before the storm engulfs his body, sinking deeper and deeper in a valley of sand, until only his head sticks above the sand! Granules scrape against The Walrus's blubbery body as his tusks begin to radiate with the same energy as Jormungand's tail did earlier! However, the curse he bestowed upon himself becomes a blessing as he digs his tusks into the sea of rock and sand, freeing The Walrus from his shackles of sand, while the chains from the land beyond continue to slow him down! However, this freedom is not without its drawbacks as The Walrus is dragged down deeper into the Tiger's Maw, his grunts of distress echoing in the fissure he created!

With the Steelix looming above, the Iron Snake's body being too large to fall in completely, the battered Walrein sluggishly steadies himself on a rocky plateau jutting out of the chasm he created. The serpentine Johto native slithers about to locate The Walrus as small rocks and waves of sand tumble down the edges of the freshly made fissure! Thankfully, the water-ice hybrid from easily the most sea-filled of regions (disregarding those islands here and there) is near the centre of the crevasse, escaping the rocky surprises, but that leaves him being a sitting duck as a bolt of orange energy surges downwards through the sand, reaching The Walrus within moments of Jormungand slamming his tail once more to transfer the energy! Groaning in pain as the plume batters his belly, The Walrus looks around in shock as the rock on which he is resting on begins to sink! Hoping to replicate the tragedy that occurred in the North Atlantic, Jormungand chortles maliciously as he tries to restrain The Walrus in a sandy grave! However, the plateau stops sinking, having collided with another large slab of rock beneath! Breathing a sigh of relief, Mercutio's orders echo through the cavern and crevasse as a focused stream of water slams into the Steelix's metal carapace, a roar of displeasure escaping the Midgardian!

Jormungand is still losing to The Walrus in terms of health, both approaching the midpoint, but not quite there yet. They're both equal in energy, but Jormungand is reasonably tired now, a taxing Sand Tomb being the cause of it. The Walrus is also tired, even winded from both an incredible amount of energy usage in a single burst with Fissure, as well as from the fall. Ground is pretty much shot, too low to manage a proper Bulldoze.

Because the ground is rather loose and splitting a fair chunk of it with a Curse boosted Fissure forced it to separate further than anticipated, making The Walrus slide down into his own crevasse. It didn't help that Jormungand had sunken him a bit before initiating the attack, which basically exposed him to being slid down.

But on the plus side, The Walrus didn't take fall damage because he only slid into the fissure rather than fall outright. It's like how you drop from a 20 foot water slide, except with sand.

I got you to use Water Gun since it wouldn't be possible for you to Strength yourself out of the Fissure. Not to mention that I interpreted your "if trapped, use Strength" as "if trapped in the sand because Earth Power terraform, use Strength to bust out".

Let him rise with Surf as you take a back seat, before rushing hard and fast with Heavy Slam as he channels Natural Gift.

Round 4: *punched across the arena*

Being stuck between two giant slabs of sandstone is nowhere The Walrus wants to be. The cooler depths of the Tiger's Maw reminds him of one of many homes of his extended family, the Shoal Cave, where the tide would ebb away and become a scene just like this. However, now is not the time to reminisce, the imminent dangers of staying in such a position all too real for The Walrus, who has an easier time conjuring up water this time without being distracted. The storm surge wells up in the crevasse until Mercutio pulls out a button labelled "Up and out" and slams his fist on it, mashing it as if it were a bunch of sweet potatoes in a pot!

"But the roof is made of solid rock! It won't break at all!"
"Probably."
"Oi, get back inside, it's dangerous out here!"

With the ref returning the little duo of Joltik and Litwick back into their Poke Balls, the Walrein rises from the fissure he made on a tide of water! However, Jormungand is already reared up and poised to strike, immediately lunging forward as The Walrus lands on the sandy field, trying to focus on the field itself! The Steelix's body shines silver, lit up eerily by the torch lights surrounding the battlefield, and slams into the Walrein, sending his toughened up body barrelling over the fissure and onto the other side of the crack dividing the Tiger's Maw! However, The Walrus was just trying to get his bearings on the terrain earlier, noting how a rather large slab of rock had been dislodged and hung uneasily between the two cliffs. Sending the last of his essence of the earth into the ground, it ripples through the sand and across the stone slab, before erupting along Jormungand's serpentine body, a low hiss of pain leaving the Steelix's jaws.

Jormungand managed to creep closer to The Walrus in terms of health, but is at the midpoint now. He's used a fair bit less energy in comparison to his opponent as well, the Walrein now truly out of Ground energy. The Walrus seems to be panting a fair bit now, while Jormungand looks to be refreshed.

Give him a Rock Blast to think about before lunging into another Heavy Slam.

Put a Surf wave across their volley and roll with the Heavy Slam to grow some distance.

Round 5: Washed out!

Coiling around on his side of the cavern, Jormungand sweeps his tail across the air, two waves of stones gathering at the invisible cut, rotating and ready to be deployed! The torrent of rocks tumble through the air in an arc, easily circumventing the fissure as they loom threateningly close to The Walrus! The Walrein conjures another wave of water, some of it hissing over the hot sands before gushing straight ahead to intercept the volley of rocks! A deafening roar resounds as the two attacks make impact, before the foam and froth of the tidal wave overwhelms the earthen assault! However, while the majority of the wave flows down into the fissure, with only a small portion of the water actually washing over Jormungand, The Walrus groans in pain as the second volley of stones pelts his blubbery mass. Hissing in mild pain now, the Johto native cloaks himself in a familiar shroud of silver, charging straight forward as his marine opponent braces himself! Just before impact, The Walrus lifts himself off the ground, hoping to use the momentum from the stinging hit to keep his distance, and that he does! The sound of metal on flesh stings all ears, with The Walrus crashing further towards the wall of the cavern, the chains holding him down clattering loudly as they start to weaken, while Jormungand awaits his next orders…

The two are still relatively neck and neck on both spectrums, with energy now past the midpoint for both combatants. Jormungand leads in both by a bit, energy still only by a small margin though. Rock is still rather plentiful for the Midgardian. The sound of rushing water can be heard from the fissure…
The Curse boosts are starting to leave The Walrus, as well as the chains binding him down.

Questioning why Surf managed to completely overwhelm Rock Blast. A pretty concentrated shot like that should probably be breaking through at least somewhat, especially considering Surf will be weaker than standard owing to both the arena and the lack of water.

I was similarly surprised, but then also I expected it to deal more damage to you.
