Dave, don't blow this chance to own Diancie!

Use a god-damn Steel type, preferably Metagross.

Thanks to all for the luck (or not). Let's have at.

--------------------------------

"At last..."

The statement was more of a whisper, barely breathed out as the human stood upon a ancient-looking wooden jetty. Behind him, a huge creature, snow-white instead of blue, let a plume of water jet into the air with an echoing cry, the cetacean having ferried his trainer to this destination. Turning, Dave smiled, muttering a word of thanks before returning the White Wailord to his PokéBall, and looked up the slope to the dark forest at the small island's interior. He'd finally made it.

"Newmoon Island."

After so long, he'd returned to his native Sinnoh region. His travels had taken him to the Burned Tower of Johto's Ecruteak City, and a small cave west of Hoenn, and now they lead him home. Having earned ownership of the Dark Gym in the land he'd become based, his desire to find this place had only intensified. And now he was here, the waning moon revealing its location.

Walking up the rocky steps, he noticed the wind picking up, storm clouds beginning to move in. This only made him grin, and eventually he was at the treeline, looking into its depths. From what he'd heard, at its centre laid a clearing, but he could barely see a few metres beyond the line of trunks. He could feel the nightmarish energy within, sure that whatever resided here was watching him. He'd gone too far to turn back now.

"The Living Shadow. Darkrai, show yourself!"

So in a shocking turn of events that absolutely none of us could have predicted, you've chosen the recently made available Darkrai. The bringer of Nightmares should prove a worthy adversary, and your champion must stand strong to brave the ominous atmosphere of Newmoon Island.

Newmoon Island
Far in the Northwest of the Sinnoh region, accessible only by sea and known to none but a select, privileged few, stands Newmoon Island. Twin to Fullmon, as is darkness to light, this solitary outpost serves as the confines for Darkrai, master of nightmares. Battles take place within an expansive forest clearing located at the pinnacle of the island. Shrouded in a light fog, the area is mostly blank, framed by dense forest on all sides. Standing at the centre of the otherwise unimpressive battleground is a single pond, the waters of which appear somewhat darker than would be assumed. Though not deep, the water can provide temporary cover to some combatants, and is perfectly round, symbolising the New Moon. Battles take place in the dead of the night, with visibility being reduced as a consequence. Cloud cover is expansive, reducing visibility even further, and adding to the already ominous atmosphere of the isolated encampment.

So, Dave, with your target unveiled, who is to be the hunter?

Making his way through the thick forest, the fisherman eventually comes across his objective. A broad clearing spread out before him, foggy and featureless save for a pond in the centre. And hanging above the water... his target. A single piercing eye stared back at the interloper, but the spectre was unmoving.

At least, until a crack of thunder rang out from overhead. Both trainer and Legendary cast their gaze upward as the clouds above swirled and thrashed. Bolts of lightning stabbed outward, tickling the treetops of the island's forest, until eventually one huge blast of electricity impacted the ground between the human at the treeline and the Pokémon above the water.

Within the mass of power, and outline began to take shape. A powerful, clawed leg shot outward, grasping out the ground, soon followed by three more. A thin, spark-like tail emerged, twitching in anticipation, while a snarling, fanged head remained bowed, red eyes focusing on its target. After a few seconds, a plume of cloud descended from on high, dragged down the channel of electricity before resting atop the quadruped's back, billowing like a cape. The beast growled softly, its entire focus on its fellow Legend, while his trainer merely breathed its name.

"Diego."

Diego: Male Raikou
Raikou: (Electric) - A Raikou's Roar attack is more effective than normal. If it rains while Raikou is out, it will also be a thunderstorm. This makes the rain more resilient, and will last one round after being cancelled out. Because of Raikou's association with rain and thunderstorms, it will never receive recoil when using Electric attacks in the rain.
Electric-types, in general, prefer areas where their Electric attacks are most accurate. Thus, while hot temperatures don’t bother them, the fact that heat refracts electricity doesn’t appeal to them.
Bio: While the story of how Diego came to join my team is well-documented, his backstory requires a little more fleshing out. After the Pokémon killed in the burning of the Brass Tower were resurrected as the Legendary Beasts by Ho-Oh, they scattered through the local area, their formidable power urging them to run on and on. During his lengthy period of freedom, the Raikou was able to revel in the power of his electricity, displaying his might against several wild Pokémon who didn't know that attacking a Legendary was a bad move, getting badly shocked for their troubles. The Houndoom and Ursaring of the local forests long since learned to keep their distance when the Thunder Beast blazed through, but on one fast-paced rampage the feline came into conflict with his kin.
Sensing a threat to his family group from the tremendous energy level fast approaching, one forest denizen blasted a Thunderbolt toward the racing Raikou. The attack didn't do much damage, but it did manage to wrongfoot the Legend, causing him to stumble. Snarling, the tiger turned to face his attacker, who revealed himself soon enough - a male Electivire swinging down from the trees, adamantly protecting his forest full of Elekid and Electabuzz. Diego responded in kind, but even with his extra juice the Thunderbolt didn't phase the Electivire, fuelled with desire to defend his family. Raising his fists, the humanoid brought them crashing down, sending an Earthquake attack to rattle Diego. The Legendary winced as his single weakness was assaulted, taking hefty damage before firing a piercing beam of Psychic power. The Extrasensory rattled Electivire's head, discombobulating him nastily and leaving him feeling woozy, allowing Diego to close in, ramming him with a Double-Edge attack and sending him back into a tree. Continuing to fight on, Electivire struggled to his feet, barely able to do so, while Diego panted from his exertion. Eyes flashing bright yellow, the Raikou extended tendrils of energy around his foe, but this wasn't the usual Thunder Wave. Instead, Electivire sagged, his energy being stripped away to repair Diego's own vitality. After a few seconds it was over, Diego seeming much fresher, while Electivire lay on the ground, unable to move after having his power drained.
His attacker subdued, Diego left the forest without any further fuss, continuing on his run. Over his ears of isolation, further scuffles with opposing Electric-types allowed him to focus this newfound power. Though unable to deploy it in the battle that ended with his capture, he still finds use from it in other clashes.

Special Attack - Power Drain (EL):
Diego extends tendrils of energy from his body, not unlike Thunder Wave, which then bind the opponent. Instead of paralysing, they drain the opponent of energy related to the amount of Electric energy that they possess, ignoring standard effectiveness multipliers. Electric-types and Pokémon with more Electric energy that average (Volbeat, Probopass, Pokémon under the influence of the Mozz Badge, etc.) will lose a major amount of energy, whereas average Pokémon will be drained of a considerable amount. Pokémon with only one or two Electric moves will only lose moderate energy, while those with none at all won't be affected. Power Drain is usable up to three times per battle, though no more than twice on a single opponent, and does not affect the level of remaining Electric energy when used on non-Electric-types. Standard laws of Diminishing Returns apply, and Diego expends a light amount of his own energy to kickstart this technique.
Hidden Power: Grass
Attached Badge: Jäger Badge

Jäger Badge
Attachable Badge
During a hard night's revelry, sometimes a bit of a kick is needed to get things moving and give the drinkers a bit of an edge. This badge mimics the power of the fabled Jäger Bomb and gives Pokémon a kick up the pants in their efforts to do battle. The Jäger Badge resembles a stylised Snorlax's head, alternately colour after the gym's strongest Pokémon and filled with the sweet sweet liquor of the night.
Badge Effect: Caffeine Boost
Once per battle, the Pokémon wearing this Badge may make use of an energy free move. This move does not cost any energy, typeless or otherwise, though the user must have the energy required to make the move work normally in order to use it. Thus, a Clefable could order a free Focus Punch and then use another Focus Punch, but not a Focus Punch and then a free Focus Punch. This effect does not count as using one move less from a "one mover-two mover-three mover" perspective.

VERSUS

So, with the decision ringing loud and true, the Jäger Badged Diego will be controlled by DaveTheFishGuy, pitted against the Mystery Legend Controller behind Darkrai.

If I could have the first rounds set of orders from the pair of you, this can get well and truly underway.

I come bearing (late) gifts!

First:

Darkrai (Dark): Darkrai is the embodiment of nightmares. As such, any Pokémon asleep in the presence of Darkrai will suffer from Nightmare automatically. Darkrai naturally floats about a foot off the ground, but can reach about 8 feet without much effort and can levitate higher by expending light energy each round. It levitates with relative speed and agility. Although normally hidden, Darkrai does have legs which it can extend at will.

Second:

Dark Void (DK) -- The user (always Darkrai) forms balls of pure darkness, throwing one at each foe. The balls grow to envelope their targets, wrapping them in a cloak of darkness, coaxing them to sleep. This move uses considerable energy.

These will be in effect for this match and will go into effect universally when it ends! You can resend PMs if you choose.

Somewhere in the distance, a crack of thunder rolls through the air. The faint rumbling pierces the air of the island easily, the baited breaths and silently sinister atmosphere welcoming the abrupt shift. The fog clinging to the air shifts uneasily as a slight breeze begins to billow through the trees, the whistling of the stoic guardians causing no distraction to the two Legendary proponents standing against one another. Some distance away, a confident looking man gingerly moves into the trees, taking a safe vantage point to watch the unfolding events. A small grin traces onto his lips as he impatiently fiddles with the spheres attached to his belt, his every fiber screaming for the battle to begin. His breath rattles through the leaves of the surrounding trees, but the quavering tones matter naught to the pair before him. A shift of movement, and his prayers are quickly answered.

Diego begins his staunch movements, his lithe body becoming little more than a fleeting blur as he begins to weave here and there, desperately trying to escape the virulent glare of his imposing foe. The black shadow matches his speed. The pair dance around the pond, yellow blurring with pitch, the scuffle for supremacy hard fought. Their movements are instinctive, but calculated. Each trying to force an opening, neither giving ground, they suddenly separate, neither having managed to break the defence of the other. Retreating back over to the center of the pond beneath him, Darkrai lowers his head, trying to cow the opponent before him into subservience. Diego grimaces, realising that this fight would be much more arduous than he would have liked. Roaring into the air, the small cloud like structure on his back begins to roil as his eyes flash with a renewed resolve, the Raikou refusing to be bested by the purveyor of nightmare.

Crouching low to the ground, Diego resolves to take a different approach. His stance shows no openings as he allows a strange energy to surge beneath the surface of his body, faint pink tendrils poking from the yellowed skin of his body. His eyes glint with power as the constructs begin to twirl around one another in the air before him, their serpentine figures meshing together to form a more condensed form. A growl begins to build within the throat of Diego as he watches the flowing energy stream together. As the whining reaches a crescendo, Diego roars, and the energy instantly heeds his cry. Pulsing, the sphere takes one a much more defined form, creating a staunch screen before Diego. Darkrai, seemingly perturbed by this, glares daggers at his foe, before moving to react.

Drawing his arms together, the Legendary Dark- type begins to secrete a viscous fluid from his claws, slamming them together and causing small outpouring to flow into the pool beneath him. A haughty grunt echoes from within the specter as he continues to move his clawed hands over one another, hurriedly forming a small globule of dank purple fluid. His eyes never leave the stiffened figure of Diego, the Raikou seemingly transfixed by the rhythmic motions of his terrifying foe. With a grunt and an almost uninterested swing of his arm, Darkrai sends his newly crafted orb sailing high into the air, the arcing trajectory aiming to land on the face of Diego. With a worried flick of his tail, the Raikou beings his screen whizzing round to meet the fall of the unstable sphere ... only for it to erupt over the surface of the construct, spilling to either side and limply pouring over the floor before Diego, the Raikou mercifully left untouched by the slimy expulsion.

With the dregs of his previous attempting pouring pathetically down into the ground, Darkrai issues a disgruntled cry. The interloper presuming to assault him on his home territory would clearly continue to refuse until the final moment. Shaking himself, the specter allows a guttural cry to begin building within the depths of his throat, the resounding cry growing louder with each passing second. Diego moves backwards uneasily as the surface of Darkrai's maw begins to crawl with a wispy mass, the mist like energy crackling with faint purple sparks. Quickly reaching a crescendo, the cry rousing within Darkrai instantly splits the air between the two, some distance birds cawing as they take flight to escape the monumental clash taking place. Diego moves backwards somewhat as thickened sound waves, dark with power, come rushing towards him, billowing over his screen and causing small cracks to form. As they die down, Diego is left gratefully untouched, and his grins from ear to ear. It was time for his resurgence.

Prowling the edges of the pool, his eyes glistening as he eyes the prey before him, Diego's lips begin to curl backwards, revealing his viciously fanged maw in all of it's glory. As he continues to move, the blackened stripes adorning his body begin to burn with an intense blue energy, and a small vortex of a similar hue begins to form before the open maw of Diego. Quickly accruing mass, the swirling energies begin to form a large sphere, the soft glow illuminating the face of Diego, his eyes little more than two points of black framed ominously by the otherworldly blue. Taking careful aim, Diego's eyes narrow as he shifts his stance somewhat ... before his roar splits the air. The thunderous tones see the sphere rush forwards, veering through the air as Darkrai attempts to shift his body to one side, hoping to avoid the incoming projectile. He is not so lucky. His left side becomes consumed by a good portion of the incoming orb, his pained cries shrieking through the air as he glares back towards Diego, his furious exterior clearly incensed further by the smug look set deep upon the face of his follow Legendary.

As the first exchanges come to a close, the bearded man some distance away lets out a held sigh of relief. His face still furrowed, it becomes evident that he is trying to shake a sense of foreboding. Although his champion stands to be in the lead right now, his crafted screen intact and his body untouched, the power exuded by both of the Pokemon before him screams of a story yet to be told.

The thunderous rumbling in the distance grows ever louder. As if to herald the clash between the two powerful beasts standing to attention, a shearing strike of lightning splits the sky some distance away, the blinding blue streak slicing the block of grey in two. A haughty grunt echoes from the throat of Diego upon seeing this spectacle. His entire body sparks into life, his yellowed fur standing on end in a mixture of anticipation and expectation. Though the shadowy figure before him had yet to so much as land a single strike, the Raikou knew that the blackened specter had much more to offer. So much more. His body slowly sinking closer to the ground, Diego draws his lips back, a confident snarl flickering across his face. With a jarring blast of energy, the Raikou bounds into action, his form becoming naught but a blurred flashing of yellow as he circles the pond.

Darkrai remains resolute, hovering over the pond beneath him. The waters gently shift, the faint wind blowing through the arena disturbing the otherwise stoic surface. Watching the interloper stand before him with a contemptuous aura of arrogance stoked the fury of the Dark- type, his body beginning to shake with rage. Twisting in the air, his deft mobility allows him to follow the shifting motions of his foe almost perfectly, his body twirling here and there as Diego continues to crash around the surroundings. An unearthly shriek rings through the air, Darkrai's discordant tones clearly causing Diego some discomfort. Grinding to a halt, his incessant bounding coming a halt, Darkrai rises ever so slightly in the air. The effect is pronounced. Now looming over his foe, the deep blue eye of Darkrai stares right into the soul of his foe, and the confidence plastered on Diego's face shrinks. His prey momentarily cowed, Darkrai spreads his arms.

Trembling with power, Darkrai slowly turns his face towards the darkened sky. His body begins to exude a foul looking substance, the thin purple mist hanging in the air around the specter. Perturbed, Diego can do nothing but look on, transfixed for reasons unknown by the awkwardly roiling cloak. Lowering his head, Darkrai gradually raises his right arm, the laboured motion leaving a hanging air of suspense. Time almost seems to dilate as the mist extends forwards, and Diego finds himself unable to shirk away, despite the screaming of every muscle in his body. As the incoming tendrils wrap around his body, Diego gasps. Staggering, he feels energy ripped from his body, the faint orange mist whining as it is drawn from his body, and as he looks back towards Darkrai, his expression is broken, knowing that his Fighting- type reserves have been drained dry.

A smug atmosphere draws around the body of Darkrai as he once again draws himself to full height. Though Diego is far from defeated, it is evident his spirits have been dampened somewhat, and this signals but the first step for the malevolent being. Gently swooning through the air, Darkrai almost taunts Diego into assaulting him once more, and the Raikou roars into the air. His emotions burn strong, the languid motions of his foe clearly striking a dissonant tone with the tiger. Slamming his hefty paws into the ground, Diego allows his natural power to swell within him, massive surges of Electric- type energy coursing to the surface of his skin. Thickened bolts of dark yellow energies begin to circle Diego, striking the ground and sending dust spilling into the air. The masses reach their crescendo, and Diego locks eyes with his foe. A fleeting glimpse of the previous tenacity embodied by Diego rises to his expression, and time dilates as he roars into the air. Startled, Darkrai tries to escape, but he finds himself unable. A sharp crack, and it is over. Slamming into the chest of the retreating Darkrai, the jagged bolt sends a tingling sensation throughout the body of the purveyor of nightmares, but the numbness quickly fades, replaced by nothing but pangs for revenge.

As Diego stalks away gingerly, Darkrai stares at him with a frosted expression. The icy glint in his eyes tell of a calculated response, and Diego is instantly attentive, his body stiffening as he watches his opponent. The unfolding events happen almost in slow motion. Darkrai shuffles forwards, his frame becoming little more than crawling death. Diego's eyes widen as Darkrai grunts, his arms rising high into the air. As the claws of his hands curl into makeshift fists, Darkrai's groans fasten in intensity, his shrill outcry piercing the surrounding clearing. With a tangible ripping of the silence, the hammer falls. Hurtling downwards, both of Darkrai's clenched appendages crash into the ground, the distant rumbling on contact alerting Diego. Before he can react, the ground around him erupts, the Raikou recoiling as debris is splayed around. With a sickening thud, the rock plates shearing from the earth crash together, sealing Diego amidst their stony grasp ... while also eliminating the remainder of the screen standing before him, the flimsy construct unable to withstand the abrupt physical impact.

Watching in silence, the bearded man has to stifle a sudden outburst of worry. Regaining his composure, he assesses the situation before him. While Diego was out of Fighting- type energy, he still seems untouched, and should be faring pretty well within his entrapment despite the energy loss forced upon him this round. That said, Darkrai likewise looks fairly well off despite Diego's lead, and he should remain good for two in the coming round.

Darkness. All consuming. The moist smell of the ground beneath his feet. Snarling into the dank air, Diego takes the moment of his incarceration to contemplate the happenings thus far. His muscles ache with anticipation, his mind races through possible outcomes, his heart yearns for total victory. Padding gingerly, he starts to stretch his limbs, making sure he is prepared for the inevitable conflict about to break out once more. Lifting his right paw, he prepares to make his move, before something grabs at his body. Horrible, roiling, building up to a furor of paralysis, the Raikou realises with an abrupt thud what it is he is feeling. Fear. He was finally faced with an opponent he could fell him, one which looked at him with barely a glint of second thought. The emotion is quickly replaced. Welling within him, an unquenchable first breaks forth. The dams burst, and naught but rage boils beneath the surface of Diego's skin. He was ready.

Growling as he initiates his work, Diego raises both of his frontal paws into the air, the musculature of his frame suddenly sparking into overdrive. Slamming the first clawed appendage into the ground, he grunts as he tediously shifts the dirt at his feet, haplessly throwing the malleable substance to one side as he finds his purchase. His hefty paws quickly fall into a rhythmic motion, his entire being straining against the effort. Powering onwards, Diego gradually makes to move into a more absolute black than the one he finds himself in now, but he shows no hesitation. Forcing himself into the bowels of Newmoon Island, he burrows further down, ignoring every instinct to stop. Finally breaking free of his captivity, his expression is dragged into a fleeting, involuntary show of glee, before a much more somber look takes hold. While he was free of his jail, the one who put him there was still left conscious. Punishment must be mete.

Drifting alone, Darkrai stands a mere few feet from the tomb in which he sealed the interloper. His pale eyes quiver with expectation, knowing that this fated combatant would never be defeated by such a petty measure as this. Moving hesitantly to one side, he raises both of his clawed hands into a defensive position, his entire existence preaching caution. His attention is focused solely on the rocky construct before him, entirely unaware that his prey is cleaving through the earth beneath him, destined for a collision course. Darkrai tenses as he realises the awkward length of time being spent by Diego escaping entombment, his realisation that something was wrong causing a defined alteration in his mood. A booming roar fills the arena, the distant storm crawling past this fortress belonging to the Nightmare, and as if on cue, the ground before Darkrai erupts with activity.

A guttural battle cry reverberates from the depths of Diego's throat as he leaps into the air, his hefty paw leading the charge. Darkrai has no time to react as the feral mass of power seethes into his torso, the sudden jarring knock sending him reeling away. Hissing into the night, Darkrai jerks away as his foe barrels into him, his fury exploding within every fibre of his being. Instantly giving chase to the interloper, Darkrai begins to secrete a deadly venom, thick globules of viscous purple liquid dripping from his claws and into the baked ground beneath him. The foul substance born of his figure is teeming with brutal toxins, each of them desperate to force Diego to succumb. Darkrai answers their call. With a swipe of his right arm, the goo is sent sailing forth, surging into the face of Diego. For a moment, there is nothing but blank features etched upon the canvas of Diego's visage, but this serenity is quickly replaced as a contortion of pain flickers into place. Yowling, Diego rears away, pawing in a fervent attempt to remove the sickly expulsion, but his efforts are in vain. The toxins breach protective barrier of his skin, and he gasps loudly, his body shuddering as his bloodstream is overcome.

Reluctantly retreating, the pride of Diego shrieking at him to continue to assault his perilous adversary, Diego begins to tap into a familiar energy source. Crouching low to the ground, the small cloud astride his back glistens a brilliant pink energy. Rays of light shine from the construct as it billows into the air, before a cracking pierces the surroundings. Tentacles snake from beneath the storm-like adornment, lashing out as they are forced to do Diego's bidding. Finally, with a guttural commandment from the Raikou, the tentacles deign to entwine. Swarming around one another, they meld their forces together, becoming little more than a dense mass of whining power. The watchful eye of Darkrai oversees the proceedings, his shape transfixed at the sight. As an uncharacteristic grin inches across his face, Diego mutters a final syllable of power, before the lump suspended obeys in full. Elongating on all sides, it rapidly fills into a glimmering, translucent screen.

Darkrai stands, conflicted. His eye draws across the surface of this familiar construct, and a cacophonous drone rises within his throat. Voicing his disdain, he slowly begins to flit backwards, his entire anatomy abruptly flaring with a dingy, pitch cloak. Diego yelps as Darkrai disappears from view, the specter having dissolved into the surrounding shadows. Snapping his head left to right, Diego seems almost feverish in his attempts to locate his prey. A slight motion in the corner of his eye sends him into autopilot. Darkrai explodes from the ground, screaming dissonance as he thrusts his arm forth. Writhing to meet the challenge, Diego pales as he realises that his movements are not quite fast enough. Darkrai ploughs into his body, striking a decisive blow, and Diego can only watch on, slack jawed in horror. A small glint on his chest suddenly fails, his stature being enlightened of a slight burden.

From his vantage point, the bearded fisherman curses loudly. Staying his emotions for now, he sighs as he once again casts his analytical eye over the proceedings. As it stands, both combatants seem to be tiring, Diego's laboured breathing matched by the more sluggish motions of his foe. Although Diego has been infested by the virile toxins of Darkrai, it strikes the fisherman that the specter has expended his tanks, and he seems grateful that no more will be levied against his champion, though he accepts the toxins will take effect in the following round. Drawing his hand across his face, he also realises that the 'special' advantage Diego held has been robbed of him, now in the possession of Darkrai.

The distant rumbling slowly builds to an ear splitting crescendo as the incoming storm begins to intensify off shore. Diego, finely attuned to the roiling protestations of the surroundings, shudders even as he huddles behind his flimsy wall of light, the Raikou being momentarily discomforted despite his clear advantage. Shuffling uneasily, his meaty paws crawl through the dirt beneath his feet as the ever present glare of Darkrai pierces into his very soul, the mighty Raikou slowly but surely being cowed. As a second lightning bolt cleaves the encompassing blackness, Diego seems emboldened. Drawing his maw apart, the immense being shows his power, a sharp burst of sound crashing into the air as he stands to attention. Undeterred, Darkrai floats above the ground, his condescending gaze shifting ever so slightly at even the most minute of movements from his foe. The tension rises, building and building, until abruptly the clearing explodes with activity.

Crashing to the left, his bristling muscles powering him with an intense motion, Diego darts throughout the open spaces, trying to deter the chase of his opponent. Darkrai simply grunts, equal to every swerving fluctuation. The duo continue their dance of death, and Diego allows himself a small flickering of amusement. Though the battle at hand is important, the fleeting nature is but a gasp in the grander picture, and the Raikou finds himself beginning to slip into the primal enjoyment of locking horns with such an intense entity. Finally coming to a grinding halt, the soft earth giving way beneath his grasping claws, Diego issues a low, threatening growl. Drawing his body close to the ground, Diego concentrates as his eyes begin to flicker, a strange power building within the maw of the thundering tiger. Jowls drenched in a flickering crimson curtain, Diego raises his head once more, a dull thrum emanating outwards from the curtaining mass engulfing his face. Darkrai comes to a sickening realisation too late. With the shimmering rectangle of light shifted out of the way, Deigo shrieks into the air, and a thick beam of reddened energy lances forth, striking the embodiment of nightmares in the chest and sending him hissing away in agony.

Although Darkrai seems momentarily quelled, the pitch marauder had in fact already been readying his counter attack. His eyes a callous canvas, Darkrai sways his body around, moving as if the air were treacle of time dilates for the battling duo. As Diego basks in the intermittent triumph of his sudden blow, Darkrai brings his left arm sailing round. Relishing the sudden drop in expression of hie foe as Diego desperately scrambles to bring his shielding construct back into place, Darkrai looses an unnatural scream. Darkrai's arm, glistening from claw to shoulder with a brilliant cyan energy, abruptly explodes outwards. A gusting cascade of hurtling wind and energy rushes forwards to greet Diego, the Raikou failing to bring his Light Screen around in time to intercept the brutal blow. Stumbling backwards, Diego gasps loudly as he recovers from the intense chilling effect of the encompassing attack, his eyes wide with agony, despite finding small solace in retaining his buffer, the bastion standing to soak future attacks. Despite Darkrai proudly pushing his chest out, his work for now seemingly done, a brief moment of distraction falls over his being. The glinting shard attached to his chest, the advantage he had forcibly torn from Diego, suddenly shatters, it's use having transpired.

Drawing backwards somewhat, his sullen expression telling of the abrupt shift in momentum, Diego begins to lick his wounds. Watching his foe, he notices a brief opportunity for himself, a drop in the guard of this stalwart of the isle. Concealing his grin, Diego begins to meld his natural energy type, finally determined to show just how commanding his mastery of the elements is. The cloud like structure adorning his back begins to crack and writhe, a dull yellow glow emanating from within the depths of the purple darkness. Without warning, two lashing tentacles of sparking energy rush outwards from the sides of the protrusion, each of them quickly adhering to the skin of Darkrai. A stunned silence, then a curdling groan. Electricity begins to dance across the surface of Darkrai's skin, the consuming dimness interspersed with brief flashes of piercing yellow. Slowly, Darkrai comes to a standstill, his entire body frozen by the crackling numbness assaulting his limbs. As Diego stands with a becalmed aura around himself, his body suddenly seizes with pain, the toxins once lying dormant within his bloodstream finally crawling to life.

From his vantage, the lone fisherman breathes a heavy sigh of relief. Though Diego is clearly panting quite a bit now, his champion having exerted himself more than ever before, the Raikou has managed to push Darkrai down to half of his remaining reserves, his relentless nature taking a toll on the denizen of the night. Diego has suffered a fair bit of damage in the process, and Darkrai looks much more the fresh after having abused the stolen advantage bestowed upon him, but the Legendary is rather paralysed right now, which will no doubt prove problematic in the coming round. Upon closer inspection, it also seems that Diego has managed to wrest the Jaegar Badge back, the tell tale glint shining on his chest.

The mind of the staunch defender whirls uncontrollably. His eyes flash through their sockets, the dank blue shivering with an intense rage. Willing his entire body to move, Darkrai finds himself unable, his exasperation clearly rising. How could he lose control of his domain? Impossible. His mouth exhales a ghastly shriek, somehow managing to drown out the distant rumbling of the oncoming storm. Diego simply grins, a loud purr escaping from his throat as he considers his immobilised prey. Padding lightly, the Raikou circles the trapped enemy, his pride in triumph evident and crawling across the surface of his toned musculature. With a sudden thought, Diego opens his maw to it's widest, a thundering roar building into a rousing crescendo. Across the blackened sky, bolts of whitened lightning drop from the heavens, and Darkrai seems transfixed by the sight, his face glaring with light from the spectacle. With a sickening realisation, the meaning was laid bare. The usurper was claiming his right. He had to be stopped.

Noticing that his foe was continuing his struggle, Diego finally brings his prowling to a stop. Shaking his head from side to side, the mighty being of Thunder hunkers his form down, hefty paws spread either side of his head. Closing his eyes briefly, he recalls a moment previous in the match, and his confidence soars. Rising into the air, slowly, steadily, Diego opens his gullet wide. The light blue visage of his mouth gradually becomes tinged a dank crimson, the strange power surging to the surface. A dull whine echoes around the enclosure, and Darkrai becomes panicked. The familiar, tinny signal brings back memories of pain for the specter, and he begins to desperately fight against the dreadful paralysis holding his existence in place. With a grunt of satisfaction, his entire face illuminated ominously blood red, Diego issues a simple, baleful bellow. A thin red beam cruises forth, the deadly lance slamming into the pitch skin of his target. Wailing in agony, Darkrai rears away, but there is something strange about his body language. His freedom never to be sacrificed, Darkrai initiates his assault, ripping away from the involuntary retreat.

Determined resolution flickers across the expression of Darkrai as he gathers his bearings, the wraith evidently feeling the transgression of the interloper before him. His charge absolute, Darkrai cruises through the air, his form flaring out behind him. The movements are precise, calculated, deadly. Darting left and right, he avoids any sort of defence mounted by Diego, permeating right through to the core of the guard of the tiger. The flimsy screen of pink energy which stood before as testament of Diego's resolute will is brushed aside with little ease, and Darkrai grunts. He has his foe where he wants him. With an abrupt shift in momentum, Darkrai spirals through the air in place, his neat pirouette catching Diego entirely by surprise. A flash of orange brings him back to his senses all too late. The spinning momentum of Darkrai sees his clenched fist crash sickeningly into the left side of Diego's jaw, the Raikou this time to one to be sent stumbling away, licking his wounds. To make his frustrations more compound, Darkrai rises to his full height, the midnight skin glistening with a gentle cloak of verdant energies, some of the inflicted wounds healing over with little trouble. Diego stands for a moment in shock, before his fury returns. Though the chase offers the most entertainment, this prey was beginning to incite the wrath of the elemental.

His pride staggered, his arrogance quelled, Diego calmly buries his anger. His eyes close for a brief moment, and Darkrai stands in the air, casting a formidable shadow down over his foe. Clawed hands spread either side of his figure, the Legend is evidently wary of the close quarters of the pair, but Diego pays the caution no heed. Opening his jaws to their fullest extent, the Raikou begins a building cry, his fangs flickering with an intense mix of yellow and green. The cloud adorning his back roils wildly, the thrashing motions mimicking the slow build of energy before Diego. With seconds, a huge orb of sparking energy forms, the construct brimming with destructive forces. Raising his gaze, Diego manages a dainty smile before the sphere casually grinds forwards. Singing the very air as it moves, the intensity of the attack clearly inspires a primal dread within the soul of Darkrai. Darting quickly to the left, his nimble movements serve him well, but not well enough. His right side becomes engulfed by the groaning sphere, the sudden surge of agony causing Darkrai to drop from the air inelegantly. Thudding against the ground, he desperately tries to take back to the air, but is becomes clear that his motions will be somewhat hindered, his entire right side hanging limp, thin bolts of yellow leaping across the surface intertwined.

The lone figure stands, his face showing a grim smile. While the end is drawing near, he cannot celebrate too soon. His eyes are cast over the pair before him, and his spirits rise slightly. Both combatants seem invigorated after having lighter rounds, Diego's advantage having allowed him to maintain momentum in the process. Their bodies show a telling advantage though. While Diego looks not yet even halfway done, Darkrai is starting to show signs of weakness throughout his stance, even ignoring his limp right side. The troubling reality is that Diego is about halfway done in his energy reserves, and with this notice, the Fisherman begins to stroke his beard, hoping for the best.

Grim tidings have come. The distant storm is now but a passing memory, slowly moving across the horizon in the background of the ensuing struggle. Small webs of lightning descend down, encroaching on the territory of the blackness, only to be swallowed up by the indomitable presence. The story unfolding on the island was one of a different tune. Standing triumphant, strong, Diego overlooks his prey, the limp right arm hanging loosely, the numerous scuffed marks slapped haphazardly over the once pristine black skin. Though the Raikou allows a celebratory roar to echo from the caverns of his throat, his eyes remain hardened, poised, ready for combat. Cornering a dangerous animal would only make it more liable to struggle and fight, the Raikou knowing this almost instinctively. As if answering the doubts of his foe, the embodiment of nightmares glares right back at the interloper, his eyes flashing a murderous desire.

Stayed somewhat by the icy stare of his quarry, Diego pads backwards cautiously, lowering his body to the ground as he growls a threatening tone. Watching as Darkrai remains nearly motionless, Diego grunts as he deigns to seize the momentum advantage, the cloud adorning his back beginning to roil in the air. Building to a crescendo, the ornament abruptly sends crimson bolts leaping across the yellow fur of the progenitor, and Diego allows a coy snarl to slink across his lips as the energy gradually gathers around his maw. Raising his form upwards, showing a staunch force, Deigo takes careful aim at the still shadow. Eyes pierce through the gloom of both pitch shroud and reddened illumination as the pair finally lock gaze with one another, the dull frequency emanating outwards from the jaws of Diego not perturbing Darkrai in the slightest. Determined to see some sort of fear, Diego takes a single stride forwards, before pausing. The steeled determination of Darkrai shows no sign of wavering, and in an awkward show of respect, Diego unloads. A thin beam extends forwards, slamming into the torso of Darkrai, and while he is knocked back somewhat, his defence remains stalwart.

A gruff acceptance descends over the surroundings as Darkrai tentatively begins to flex his right arm, the pain having jolted the indisposed limb from the periphery of paralysis. Raising the limb into the air, the specter levies it towards Diego, the clawed tips methodically clenching into a fist. With barely a nod of approval, Darkrai spreads both his arms wide, splaying his form before Diego. With a callous chuckle bursting throughout the clearing, Darkrai summons numerous tendrils of pure darkness, his mastery over the substance quickly seeing them come together to create a perfect sphere. Diego's eyes light with an apprehension never shown before, with good reason. No warning is given, the approach silent and unexpected. Diego is left no time to react before the absolute dusk embodied by the spherical construct is enveloping him, growing around his vision and physical form in equal parts. Staggering, stumbling, fighting against the weakness flooding his muscles, Diego barely manages to choke out a protest as his legs give way. His head slams into the ground horribly as his world continues to swim, before nothing.

Diego lies on the floor, his face slowly contorting into a troubled mask mixed between pain and terror. The mere presence of Darkrai floods his dreams with stark images of unadulterated horror, and the effects are telling as Diego convulses in place. For the briefest of seconds, his body is stilled, an uncharacteristic calm coming across him. Turning somewhat on the ground, the maw of the large tiger hangs wide open. A soft gushing sound is quickly followed by a warbling snore, waves of glistening blue energy pulsating outwards to rock over the body of Darkrai. Grunting against the strength of the unexpected attack, Darkrai is left clawing at the air in fury, his anger evidently stoked despite the poor condition he has found himself in. Reigning in his tremulous anger, Darkrai wreathes himself in shadow, terrible purple energies roiling at the surface of his skin. Raising his right arm high into the air, Darkrai allows a trickling stream to begin descending down over the body of Diego, the foul substance encasing the Raikou entirely. Thrashing in his sleep, Diego is once again liberated of some of his remaining energy, his breathing becoming ragged as his strength leaves him.

Hand drawn across his face, the lone fisherman mumbles something incomprehensible, the situation now being balanced on a fine edge. While Darkrai is clearly close to being finished, Diego does not have much strength left and has been left sleeping. Darkrai, by contrast, looks fine to continue battling despite his battered body, although his Ghost energies seem to be drained utterly.

A sense of unease descends over the clearing. The rumbling of the storm can barely be heard anymore, the inconsistent flashes on the horizon barely registered by the hovering figure. Floating forwards tentatively, Darkrai stands battered and bruised, his gait faltering as he finally looms over the body of Diego. A ghastly sigh echoes from within the depths of his body as he stands over the interloper, the being who disrupted his peace and dared challenge him. Dared challenge, and push him this far. A wistful grunt echoes forth as Darkrai remains stoic, before a small sign of activity from Diego causes the specter to flit backwards. There was fight left in him yet, and he would not be taken quite so easily. His doubt erased, Darkrai opens his arms wide, his stance strong and unfaltering.

Diego remains trapped within his slumber, his body heavy and breathing ragged. Somehow, the Raikou turns towards his foe once again, his maw hanging wide open. A troubled look rests upon his face as his jaw works awkwardly, before a guttural roar rushes out of his throat. As sound waves of pure blue energy begin to lash out towards Darkrai, the defender simply rushes to one side, his deft agility seeing him rush clear of the ensuing blast with relative ease. Positioned behind Diego now, Darkrai looks down menacingly, the icy blue of his eyes showing little but contempt for his assailant. Crossing his arms, he begins a deep meditation, callous thoughts and crude plannings working throughout his mind as a fine aura dances across the surface of his body. Below him, Diego snores aimlessly once more, his misguided attack leaving little more than a scratch on the surface of Darkrai.

Little more than a scratch, that is, until Diego begins to move once again. Clawing his way back from the depths of his slumber, the groggy Raikou forces himself upright. Staggering somewhat, he fortifies his stance, before a tired grin comes across his face. Darkrai simply bows his head in acceptance of his defeat. Thin bolts of energy leap throughout Diego's body, growing more lively with every passing second as Diego shrugs off the hefty cowls of sleep. With a final, commanding roar, Diego is set ablaze with a brilliant yellow cloak, the Raikou becoming nothing but a blackened silhouette amidst the blinding flash of light. A second later, and the bolt extends forwards. With a cracking of the air, Darkrai is left singed and smoldering, the sheer intensity of the blast leaving him stunned. The light of his eyes slowly fades as the lids come slowly down, and with a sickening crunch, Darkrai falls.

Darkrai is unable to battle! DaveTheFishGuy and Diego are the victors!

Claim your prize, FishGuy. Well fought battle on both ends, but ultimately I think we all expected this outcome considering the chosen champion. Either way, I'll leave it to both Dave and the MLC on revealing themselves if they so which to have the final words. Thanks for the opportunity to referee this thing.

Connor receives 5 SP for refereeing of a Legend Challenge.
The Mystery Legend Controller receives 5 SP for their services.

Awesome battle Dave and Concept. You two really made it suspenseful, Connor also did a fantastic job at Reffing these rounds with such length and detail. Dave, you really deserve catching Darkrai, that makes your third legendary Pokemon, right?
