Resplendent Rapids
Spoiler: show
Challengers wishing to take on Dream Breaker in Shipwreck Cove must first pass through the tremulous waters of the Resplendent Rapids, a river hidden deep within a long since forgotten forest. The main battling site of the arena is a fast flowing river, which will prove incredibly difficult and taxing to maneuver for those who are not entirely native to swimming. The water itself is fairly deep, resting at a respectable 30 feet at the deepest point. The riverbed is sloped somewhat steeply at first, and as a consequence, most battling within the river will take place at roughly 15 feet deep. The river flows fast, and the currents can be used for maneuvering underwater. The water is brilliantly clear, making it easy to see underwater, but likewise to see out of and into, leaving very little room to hide. The riverbed itself is easily shifted, and will accommodate moves such as Earth Power readily, but Earthquake and it's ilk which require more firm ground will be severely affected.

At the center of the river lies a number of flat platform rocks. Each of them will provide a more than stable foothold to any land based Pokemon attempting to do battle, and they protrude a good 2 feet from the surface of the water. The platforms are of indiscernible size, about as big as is necessary, and will hold the weight of almost any Pokemon ordered to stand upon them, within reason.

The banks of the river are rich in magnetically charged minerals, which adorn the ground leading into the river. These minerals will alter the trajectory of any Electric- type attacks entering the water from the banks of the river slightly, the degree of which should not be too extreme and will be down to referee discretion. These minerals will not affect attacks which are used underwater, their influence not being strong enough to do so.

On either side of the river rests dense forest, the trees being spaced barely feet apart. The high concentration of roots beneath the surface mean there are very few rocks available for use to attacks such as Rock Tomb, meaning most Pokemon will need to rely on the more energy intensive versions. The trees themselves are non-specifically tall, but the height must be kept within a reasonable range, down to referee discretion. A good number of the trees have branches overhanging the river, though these are few and far between, and are somewhat thin, not supporting the weight of some of the larger Pokemon. The banks of the river itself are incredibly sloped, and footing is bad, meaning falling into the river is dangerously easy. Pokemon swept into the river will struggle to remove themselves once they are trapped, and will become somewhat tired unless they are particularly strong swimmers or climbers.
On both banks of the river, two men emerge from the trees. One is a man about yeigh high with a stubby beard. Total whore I'm telling you. Definitely scoring bonus whore points today with that skimpy swim suit. He also reeks of shit. Guess he had an accident last night or something. Anyways, the other guy's much younger, and his digging his shoes into the ground somewhat nervously, either because it's his first battle against a Gym Trainer or because said Gym Trainer is kinda creeping him out. Either way his new car smell and said crap smell from the GT mix and make everything just smell really bad. Both of them should just go take a swim, but nope, instead Cibbir's going to smell like crap and sweat while Zelphon looks to negate some of his freshness with the nasty aroma on manly competition. Anyways, lets get a squad from the pig to start us off!

The bitterness is strong with you, Sparkbeat.

Alright, Zelphon. Once upon a time previous to the Sparkbeat battle this squad would've probably had three Rock/Waters in it because I'm a twat. Not this time. Good luck!

Level 3

Kanami: Female Lombre
Lombre: Though able to swim and stay underwater for a fair amount of time, Lombre are not the best swimmers and prefer to stay near the surface of the water. Lombre are capable of restoring more health and energy then grass Pokémon normally get in the rain.
Biography: Kanami is regarded a relic, having lived an uncharacteristically long time for her species. Having inhabited a deep, underground spring of fresh water, she is acquainted with numerous other Pokemon, most notably a conglomeration of genuine ancients - Pokemon such an Relicanth and Armaldo were abundant in her habitat. As such, she studied their arts quite regularly, with the lily pad atop her head slowly becoming much more dull in colour, and flaking at the edges with age. This change, almost a petrification of the plant life atop her head, awoke within her body a very special ability.
Signature Training – Petrification:
Kanami has managed to alter the properties of Petal Dance, adopting the move as her own and changing it to Rock- type. This manifests in the form of a Petal Dance wherein all of the petals fired are petrified and hard, meaning in Realistic they can cause minors cuts to the opponent. Kanami has type energy enough to use this specialised version of Petal Dance twice per battle, and may not use the standard version of Petal Dance.
Hidden Power: Electric

Level 2

Olivia: Female Shiny Lapras
Lapras: Lapras is slow and ungainly on land, but is incredibly fast and agile in water, particularly on top. As a carrier Pokémon, Lapras can carry up to 1.5 times its weight and not have its speed affected. Lapras’ shell is hard, and any attacks there are reduced to 75% damage.
Biography: Olivia commands a terrifying prowess of the Ice- type. Her ability to manipulate the element transcends all those of her species, and her legend has spread far and wide. Her most potent ability utilising her unique talent is to draw the strength of others from them, literally robbing them of their life force and adding it to her own.
Signature Move - Frostbite:
Concentrating, Olivia slowly drains energy from her opponent, at an alarming rate. This technique is rather quick, and will leave the opponent feeling immediately sluggish. This is, for all intents and purposes, a more potent form of Giga Drain, which uses Ice- type energy as opposed to Grass. Subject to diminishing returns as are all draining attacks.
Hidden Power: Flying

Nanami: Female Remoraid
Remoraid: Remoraid is a fish Pokémon, so it is almost helpless on land. It has excellent accuracy, and its attacks have a greater chance of hitting.
Biography: Nanami is a prodigal child, the genius of her small clan. As a consequence, she was directly selected to become the head of their small sect, inheriting the skills of the previous head before challenging him in single combat. Emerging victorious, Nanami became the sole leader, before deciding to travel the world on a soul searching mission. Her long and arduous trek allowed her to refine her clan's style further, managing to eclipse all those came before.
Signature Move - Kyotouryuu: Dandelion:
Using Major Ghost- type energy, Nanami crafts a small dart before her. The dart is simple in design, but extends at the back, forming a flower like structure. When shot towards the foe, the dart will spin rapidly, inflicting Heavy Ghost- type damage upon striking. When used against Ghost- types, this attack will force them into the Solid state for the next three rounds, functioning much like Foresight. Kyotouryuu: Dandelion can only be used once per battle.
Hidden Power: Dark

Wilhelm: Male Slowpoke
Slowpoke: The slowest Pokémon. However, it goes into battle as if it had one Amnesia in effect. A Slowpoke will potentially evolve early if a Shellder bites its tail or head: wild Shellder may do this, or a Slowpoke's ally may do so. An enemy Shellder will never bite a Slowpoke willingly. Once the Shellder and Slowpoke are connected, they share a symbiotic bond that cannot be broken, thus, they will count as one Pokémon.
Biography: Wilhelm comes from a long line of royally acclaimed Slowking. His ancestry can be traced back countless years, and he is keenly aware of this. The royal blood coursing through his veins sits as a monumental pride for him, and he isn't afraid to let others know it. Despite his haughty actions, Wilhelm is an adept battler, and will stop at nothing to ensure any and all threats to his current subjects is quickly and ruthlessly neutralised.
Signature Training - A King Must React Faster:
Wilhelm, unlike any other of his species, is very quick to react to incoming danger. While his body cannot match his surprising reflexive ability, this instinctive talent will manifest in Wilhelm being able to avoid slower moving attacks with a much higher success rate, as well as being able to manouevre partial hits with greater ease.
Hidden Power: Rock

Yuma: Female Qwilfish
Qwilfish: Qwilfish is somewhat slow in water, and nearly immobile on land. In water, Qwilfish may inflate as a move. When inflated, Qwilfish moves more slowly, but has a higher defense, and any enemy that comes into contact with Qwilfish may hit a spike, taking damage equal to Poison Sting (with the same chance of poison). Qwilfish must inflate before it can fire any of its spikes or use any "spike" attack (Poison Sting, Pin Missile). Its pins are coated with a poison, which have a 10% chance of causing poison. Qwilfish may automatically deflate, and doing so does not count as a move.
Biography: Yuma is, at her heart of hearts, a terrifying trickster. Her potent poisons know no boundaries, and she has made it her lives mission to discover a combination which will effortlessly poison even those who dare to boast immunity to more conventional means. After a lifetime's work, the intrepid Qwilfish finally made the final, important steps, perfecting her formula.
Signature Move - Destruction of Matter:
Expending Heavy Poison- type energy, Yuma allows numerous orbs to spill from her body. Some hang within the air, and others will disperse into the water she rests within, meaning nothing can hide from these orbs. Upon being used, some of these orbs will strike the opposing Pokemon, instantly dissolving into their body. Organic Pokemon will not be affected by this attack, while inorganic Pokemon will suddenly begin to suffer from a Toxic-esque affliction, suffering damage as if they were indeed suffering from Toxic. This is essentially a Toxic Spikes which actively effects inorganic Pokemon while doing nothing to Organic Pokemon.
Hidden Power: Grass

Naotsugu: Shiny Male Wartortle
Wartortle: The most militant of the Squirtle family, Wartortle are the middle of the line in speed and agility. Like all of the Squirtle family, they are vulnerable if knocked on their backs.
Biography: Naotsugu is incredibly aware of his large, typically lumbering, frame. His desperate attempts to become more agile within the water have almost always failed him, and have resulted in him developing a degree of an inferiority complex about his water borne skills. In an attempt to remedy this, Naotsugu began to attempt moving through the water while using his natural energy type to aid him. He realised that, when shrouding himself with a thin layer of Water- type energy, he became able to move through the water with incredible speed. He tirelessly trained, until he became quite adept at moving in this manner, capable of short but incredible bursts of speed.
Signature Move - Guardian's Charge:
Naotsugu shrouds himself in a thick layer of Water- type energy, before charging through the water at incredible speed. This attack derives it's power from the momentum generated by the sudden charge, and as such does heavy typeless damage while costing heavy Water- type energy. Due to the sheer force of the attack, the opponent has a 10% chance of being momentarily stunned by the impact. Naotsugu finds it incredibly difficult to change direction while using this attack, only allowing this attack to be used in a straight line of sight, and due to it's nature, it can only be used within a body of water. Naotsugu can no longer use Skull Bash or Double-Edge.
Hidden Power: Grass

Well this should be...interesting, let's do this XD

Spunk: Grumpig - 3 Female (Uplevel)
HP: Fighting

Statisa: Joltik - 2 Female
HP: Fire

Reizula: Spheal - 1 Female
Biography: While being one of the newest additions to Zelphy's team Reizula has shown that despite her rotund cuteness she is an extremely confident & able combatant.
Signature Move: Icy Terrain
For Considerable energy Reizula releases a giant pulse of icy albeit harmless energy, causing a thin layer of perpetual ice to cover the arena for 5 rounds no matter how hot the environment. This ice while not slippery enough to cause any trouble for pokemon does provide land based pokemon increased mobility through sliding/skating.
Reizula can not use Blizzard.

Longshot: Remoraid - 2 Male
HP: Electric

Kusto: Grovyle - 2 Male
HP: Ground

Polyhax: Porygon - 2 Genderless
HP: Ground

Reizula let's do this!

Round 1: Zelphon Wins the Cute Competition

Seeing as we're about to get started, take to the air Pixel! After stealing a glance at the amazing specimen of Sigilyph now floating at a safe distance above the branches across the river, Zelphon puts on a look of determination and grabs a Pokeball from his belt. The red glow forms a spherical shape on the soft, damp soil at on his side of the bank before vanishing to reveal an adorable Spheal named Reizula splashing around in the shallow water. Grinning, Connor reaches into the backpack beside him and tosses the ball into the air. Sneakily, a figure dives straight into the water, going down a few feet before surfacing. Kanami gives her head a little shake to get some of the crystal clear water off of her head pad, then shifts her focus right onto Reizula as this battle looks to get under way.

The Lombre dives down once more, moving swiftly through the raging rapids. The clear water gives her body a shimmer as she makes her way towards the shoreline. She reaches the shallow water and buries her feet into the ground, now running full sprint at the rotund Spheal. Glistening in the sunlight, her arm takes on an almost relaxing pink shade. With a hard jab, she smacks Reizula, sending the Spheal rolling backwards a bit as the energy is pumped into her body. She stops herself soon enough, once again facing the Lombre in front of her. Her cheeks momentarily puff up before she shoots a beam not of ice, but of a buggy red energy at Kanami. It causes her to grimace upon impact, doing much more damage than she'd like, and her arms slings across her chest where it connected. While Reizula for some reason closes her eyes, Kanami shakes off the attack, but for some reason, she starts to wobble back and forth as she moves backwards into the water. A twirl here, a spin here, and she's back into water just deep enough to cover her entire body when she touches the ground, leaving us with that confusing spectacle to think about. Or at least leaving me with it. It seems Reizula's had her eyes shut tight throughout the whole spectacle, almost making it look like she's sleeping on the job, having fallen victim to the relaxing rush of the water. Both competitors are still looking fresh and ready to go as this showdown gets underway.

Use Dive and then use Toxic, feel free to shut your eyes in place of either of those should it decide to dance.

Dropping to follow his Dive, wait for him to finish moving then nail him with Seed Bomb. Dive under the Toxic to strike with Dive.

This is how you Dive properly.

Round 2: Rolling in the Deep

Slowly, Reizula shifts her weight back and forth, making indentions in the soft soil she's currently standing (Sitting?) in. She soon gains enough momentum to roll full speed ahead and straight into the water, diving right into the shallows of the raging river. She goes to the left of Kanami before looping back around. Powering up the slight incline, she strikes the Lombre in the side before continuing past her further down the bank, still in no more than seven or so foot deep water. Kanami gives chase to him, however, and just when Reizula thinks she's safe to stop, she's met with a barrage of explosive seeds powering through the water coming from a Lombre who's standing on the slope of the riverbed with her, smirking. With an angrily adorable furrowing of the eyebrows, Reizula's cheeks puff up, and Kanami bends her legs, ready to push off at a moments notice. Suddenly, a stream of nasty poison shoots from Reizula's mouth, and with a forceful push, Kanami swims right over the stream, eyes locked on the Spheal across from her. With two strokes of her arms and a few kicks of her legs, she dives into Reizula, hitting the Spheal before swimming a little ways outward and behind her, deeper into the river. It's evident Kanami's a little more tired than her foe as her chest rises and sinks a bit more rapidly than Reizula's, but the latter has taken a massive blow this round, falling near the midpoint of health.

Would argue that given it's only the second round of having been sent out I shouldn't really be tiring yet, but okay.

Seed Bomb his lights out as you move towards the opposite riverbank.

Round 3: Holding Down Fort Cute

Continuing to wading backwards out into the deeper portions of the river, Kanami spits out another barrage of light brown seeds with a faint green glow. This small green glow is met with another, which Reizula quickly summons causing the seeds to bounce of harmlessly, settling in the icky mush at the bottom of the river. As her opponent continues to retreat, but not break eye contact, Reizula rolls after her and sends another bright colored beam to chase down Kanami, exhausting the Spheal's Bug energy. It strikes her once more, making her cringe a bit on impact and sending her very near her second third, as Reizula begins to pant a bit harder than Kanami did last round with her energy in its second third.

Ascend in the water while shooting him a Seed Bomb to the face as he comes in for Waterfall. While dropping, avoid as much of Frost Breath of possible and send him an Energy Ball.

Round 4: Phuk Skool

As she rolls down the slope, Reizula rapidly gains speed. Using her tail, she pushes off the ground, spinning and creating a sprial of water around her. For a moment, Kanami's eyes widen, but she simply pushes down with her arms and legs, rising somewhat as Reizula makes her way towards the Lombre. Reizula strikes her from underneath, forcing her up further, but the Spheal is quickly put back on the muddy bottom by a barrage of seeds, bursting and shooting her down. Not to be deterred by the stinging hit, she takes a deep gulp of water, using water type magic stuff to get some breath, and breathes a stream of filtered, freezing air at Kanami. She shoves the water above her, moving downwards, but a good bit slower than she'd like too. While it may be good for staying afloat, the large rain dish on her head seems to be making sinking with speed very difficult. Some of the icy water breath goes over her, but a rather large amount of hit chills her head as a green sphere begins to form in her hands. In a few seconds, it zips through the water, striking Reizula in the face as stream of bubbles comes out of her mouth. She rolls backwards before catching herself, looking so battered that it's obvious she's into critical levels. She's panting a fair amount as well. More than her opponent is at least, who now a decent amount into her second third of health and energy.

By the way I see it noted in it's SC that it's not a great swimmer, how is a Lombre keeping up so well in such a hard current?

Most of Lombre's troubles should really come with actually submerging. Not to mention, Spheal doesn't exactly have the body type to be swimming very well. Given it explicitly moves by primarily rolling, I could have the same gripe.

Seed Bomb. Again if necessary.

Yeah they both aren't too great at swimming, so the currents been pushing both of them down stream at about the same pace. It hasn't really effected the distance between them much since it's moving both of them downstream.

Round 5: Still Cute Tho

Reizula pushes off the ground once more, allowing the current to take her backwards. As this occurs, Kanami spits out a few more nasty cuteness pesticide pellets. Sadly for Reizula, the seeds can also be carried by the current, and that combined with the force of which they were spat means they soon collide with her, prompting her trainer to swiftly recall her before she's taken even further downstream, while Kanami catches her breath.

Reizula is unable to battle! Next Pokemon from Zelphon!
