Gallade UPN PASBL: Apollo77 vs Son_of_Shadows

Another exciting battle between fairly known newcomers, yadayadayada - let's see what we got.

Arena: Ref's choice, nothing too ridiculous but don't make it Lawn either
Frozen Pool (Indoor/Outdoor. Standard Ice Arena): Ice sheet covering freezing water. Ice can be melted, in which case the arena becomes like a Pool Arena with the Pontoon (Ice) rules come into effect.
Special Rules: Ice Field, Water under Ice.
That's right. The arena pick of the day is a solid, slippery field with the ability to become habitable for aquatic species. Quite a bit of potential for arena abuse here but don't think that ice layer is thin. It'll take more than a Snorlax's weight for that ice to shatter.

Anyway, in case you develop amnesia, use this so you know what to do:
1. Apollo77 posts a Squad of 6 Pokémon
2. Son_of_Shadows posts a Squad of 6 Pokémon and sends out his first Pokémon
3. Apollo77 sends out his first Pokémon and orders attacks
4. Son_of_Shadows orders attacks
5. I Ref
6. Son_of_Shadows orders attacks
7. Apollo77 orders attacks
8. I ref
9. etc until a knockout

Now without further ado; Squad Up!

Thanks a ton for taking this (and my other one too) EAI! Good luck SoS, let's make this a good one!

Joker: Level 2 Male Haunter
Joker, as his name suggests, is a total prankster. He doesn't take much seriously and never passes up the opportunity for a laugh.
Hidden Power Type: Fire

Olympia: Level 1 Female Poliwhirl
Olympia loves the water and everything about it. She's become an extremely proficient swimmer; it's simply second nature to her.
Hidden Power Type: Ice

Sparkplug: Level 1 Male Elekid
Sparkplug is a very aggressive Elekid, with tons of pent up energy just waiting to be released. He loves battling and hates to lose.
Hidden Power Type: Bug

Cumulus: Level 1 Female Swablu
Spoiler: show
Bio: Cumulus is a calm, serene Pokemon who would much rather avoid conflict. She loves music and has a beautiful singing voice. It wasn't by sight that I first encountered Cumulus; rather, it was by the sound of her voice. It was a very cloudy day that day, and I really couldn't notice her among the clouds, but I heard her voice sing beautifully in the still air. Only through further inspection did I find Cumulus was the one responsible for the music. Not only were the cloudy conditions ideal camouflage, but also made her song stand out amidst the atmosphere. She couldn't sing over the noise of a sandstorm, hailstorm, or rainstorm, and the extreme sunlight made for a terrible reverb. But the still cloudy air was the perfect concert hall for her music. Cumulus loved her music so much, I decided to help her train so that it could be heard clearly by everyone. She's now developed a technique to create the perfect ambience for her singing.

Signature Move: Special Technique- Cloudy Day
Cumulus can now change the weather to something all her own: Cloudiness. This weather lasts for 5 rounds, and cancels out any current weather. Like other weather, it can be canceled by a different weather-inducing move. Under Cloudiness, the effectiveness (for moves like Sing or Screech) of all sound-based moves is increased somewhat, and their damage (for moves like Hyper Voice or Snarl) is multiplied by 1.25. When Cumulus (or any Swablu/Altaria) is up in the air, she becomes harder to see against the clouds. Because Cumulus is a peaceful Pokemon, she cannot use the moves Rage, Fury Attack, Take Down, or Double Edge.
Hidden Power Type: Ground

Lucy: Level 1 Female Shroomish
Lucy is more than a little addicted to shrooms, and often experiences hallucinations and visions associated with such addiction.
Hidden Power Type: Ground

Kandi: Level 1 Male Swirlix
Spoiler: show
Bio: Kandi is the closest thing a Swirlix can come to being a stripper. Seductive, playful, and cheeky, he doesn't mind letting his sweetness out. Thing is, he's a Swirlix. He's literally made of cotton candy. So of course, the other members of my team were quite curious about this. Did he actually taste like cotton candy? So one day, Sparkplug stepped forward and flat-out asked to taste him. Surprisingly, Kandi let him. Sparkplug took a bite and was taken to heaven. Every member of the team eventually got to try him, and I realized just how potent his sweetness could be. I worked with Kandi to develop a technique that took full advantage of what he was.

Signature Move: Special Technique- Lick Me All Over
Using good energy, Kandi secretes an absolutely delectable aroma that attracts the opposing Pokemon. The Pokemon completely forgets about what it was doing to get a taste of the deliciously sweet treat. When the opponent reaches Kandi, it uses Bite, regardless of whether or not it actually learns Bite. Kandi takes the normal damage from being bitten. Not knowing just how sweet Kandi is, the opponent will have eaten too much, and then suffers solid damage from the ensuing toothache. This technique does not work on inorganic Pokemon or Pokemon without a sense of smell, nor will it work on the same Pokemon more than once per battle.
Hidden Power Type: Fire

Yes, good luck to you too Apollo. Let's not fuck this up.

1. Amélie the level 1 Nidoran-F
2. Irishman the level 2 male Hitmonchan (uplevel)
3. Yeti the level 1 male Snover
4. Chanteuse the level 1 female Smoochum
5. Bishop the level 1 male Hoothoot
6. Gem the level 1 Staryu

We are leading with... Amélie, why not?

Alrighty then, who to lead with when I have no idea who I want to lead with? Why, Sparkplug of course! Begin by tossing an Electroweb over him to render him immobile, then shock him with Discharge!

Round 1: Out of the Web and into the Charge

Both trainers smile and give each other a confident nod. One of them ,starts off by chucking a Pokéball, which opens up to reveal cute dino-rabbit like Pokémon.

Poison: If not completely immune, poison types are highly resistant to poisoning.
He allows his opponent to counter his choice of Pokémon. The other trainer reacts by sending out a favourite of his, a small grin grows on his face as he plans his next actions. His Pokéball releases sparks of electricity in which the Electric Pokémon has locked himself in before dissipating all the energy to charge his motors for battle.

Electric: Electric types, in general, prefer areas where their electric attacks are most accurate. Thus, while hot temperatures don’t bother them, the fact that heat refracts electricity doesn’t appeal to them.
This same trainer starts the round by barking his (arguably) preferred set of orders. The Elekid closes his fingers together as if locking them in place and then pulls them apart. As he does so, tendrils of Electrical energy weave themselves together between his fingers like a Webwhich Sparkplug chucks forward towards the rabbit. In order not to be trapped, the opponent issues for his Pokémon to counter this attack and dodge it. The Nidoran’s ears twitch for a short moment to Detect the electric net and its movement and, at the opportune moment, hops over the net fearlessly. The electricity clings to the floor where its energy is immediately transferred to the ground and disappears. Angered, well not exactly angry, Sparkplug crosses his arms The rubbing together of his limbs causes a build-up of his inner electrical energy which he, in a similar manner to the net, flings forwards towards the rabbit-like Pokémon. The excessive Discharge of energy lands successfully, being quite unavoidable immediately after that net. Completely fazed by the attack, the Nidoran trembles under the electric currents, barely moving an inch. It seems that one electric attack was enough to paralyse it. With her spine in agony, the Nidoran has to forego her next attack.

Summary:
Sparkplug used a bit more energy but is also the only one to have dealt damage. Amélie is paralysed but looks pretty good otherwise.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax.

Keep him at bay by using Ice Beam to freeze his foot to the ice, and fire away with Sludge Bomb.

Use Quick Attack to dart out of the way of the Ice Beam (above all making sure your feet aren't frozen down), then blast him with a Psychic Wave!

Round 2: Nidoran + Elekid = Energizer Rabbit!

With electricity coursing through his veins, Amélie opts to use ranged attacks in an effort to keep her foe at bay. She opens her mouth and a light blue orb of energy starts growing inside. In only a few seconds the orb releases an erratic Beam of Ice energy. Her sluggishness allows for her opponent Sparkplug to easily dodge the incoming attack. He Quickly shifts his feet, moving left to right with high speed until, finally, he comes up close to the Nidoran and Attacks. With proximity not being much of an issue anymore and with some (not all) paralysis knocked out, Amélie takes advantage of her new situation to gather her venomous spit. An orb of Sludge forms in her mouth which she fires away to Sparkplug like a Bomb, drenching him in toxic slime. No poison unfortunately but enough to make the Elekid want to get revenge by blasting a wave of his mental powers. The Psychic energy quickly takes shape before waving rapidly like a kite in the wind towards the Nidoran, sending her rolling on the floor and knocking the remainder of the paralysis out with it.

Summary:
Amélie took most of the damage and is about to head into her second third of health while Sparkplug sits way too comfortably in his first. Ice and Psychic energy are pretty much depleted. There’s some left but not enough for another Ice Beam or Psychic. Talking about energy, both are good for another two but may want to consider resting up at one point. Nothing to worry just yet. The two are close but not right next to each other; a few feet between the two.

Great job Sparkplug! Fire off another Discharge at him. If you manage to paralyze him again, protect yourself with a QC Substitute, but if not, toss an Electroweb over him.

I'm a little skeptical that Quick Attack worked so well on an icy floor, but hey.

Protect against that Discharge and soak him with Water Pulse. Let's short circuit that plug.

Round 3: Trapped and Soaked

(I should probably elaborate some more on why the Elekid didn’t slip up. First off, Nidoran is sluggish because of the paralysis, nearly clamping up entirely. Because of this slow movement, the Quick Attack doesn’t have to be too quick to dodge. Elekid can easily move out of the way. Also, Nidoran is slow with redirecting the attack so as soon as Elekid is out of the initial pathway, it’s good to go, having little to worry. Lastly, both Pokémon are quite fresh still, so slip-ups won’t occur as often. It’s around the time when the Pokémon are tired and ordered to move around a lot that they tend to slip. That’s not to say the icy floor didn’t have an effect; because of the carefulness of the Elekid on the ice, the Quick Attack had less momentum and thus dealt less damage. But less damage on an already weak attack doesn’t make much of a difference.)

With the Nidoran knocked out of paralysis, Sparkplug attempts to lock it in place once again. He rubs his arms together and against his body, the static energy rising and mixing together with his own inner battery pack. Sparks fly between his two antenna and when the build-up is deemed large enough for the Elekid, he shoves his arms forwards. Electricity is released forward, Discharging the Elekid’s build up of electricity. On her trainer’s whim, Amélie stands still and hold her ground. She sets up a Protective barrier that completely blocks the electric charge and possibility of paralysis. Both fizzle out into nothingness and upon witnessing his failed attack, Sparkplug resorts to hindering the Nidoran’s movement some other way. Locking his fingers in place once again, electricity courses through his limbs and extremities. He pulls his fingers apart, tendrils of Electric energy connecting them. After flinging the electricity forward, it grows in size and gains a clear shape of a net of sorts. Right after the Protect was finished, Amélie finds herself ensnared in the Electroweb, knocking her down sideways. Though the net blocks her movement, Amélie is stable capable of firing projectiles. Opening her mouth as much as she can, a pale blue orb of aquatic energy begins to take shape. Sparplug tries to waddle away while he can but the Pulse of Water energy homes in on him, making contact and soaking him in water. There’s no confusion chance but he’s drenched.

Summary:
Sparkplug has taken more damage this round but he still holds the advantage. Amélie is currently trapped in the net, shocking her lightly each round. She has enough water energy for another Water Pulse. Both Pokémon are getting tired, Sparkplug more so because of Amelie’s break in the first round. Penalties will be made on movement and energy if no break is given.

Hmm, why don't we hit him with a Charge Beam while he's trying to get out of that net, then just take a breather.

Round 4: Electrical Abuse

Annoyed of the shocking web around her, Amélie’s claws glow with a white energy, ready to slash the net. Mean while, Sparkplug builds up another electric charge in an attempt to lock it in place again. Amélie’s claws come down in a massive Fury of Swipes, the result of which is that the web falls into a million scattered pieces at her feet, the electricity coursing through it dissipating with it. Just as she freed herself, the Elekid’s done as well with his preparation and sends forth a Charge Beam with one big shock. Having no intention of being zapped again, the Nidoran attempts to make a run for it but the shock still hits her hind legs for some partial damage. Lady luck definitely prefers the male Pokémon at this point as minor energy lingers in Sparkplug's torso, crackling as it surges from limb to limb and psyching him up for his next attack.

Summary:
Both enjoyed their one-mover. Not much damage and energy has been used so not much has changed from last round. Minor boost to Sparkplug's attacks.

Not that I don't appreciate the paralysis, but I ordered Charge Beam, not Discharge ;p

But hey, now that we've got boosted Sp. Atk, it's a great time to Discharge! Follow up with a Thunderbolt.

Round 5: Straightforward Round is Straightforward

Glares at SoS

Elekid fires off a Discharge. Amélie sets up a Protective field to negate the damage and potential paralysis. Sparkplug fires off a Thunderbolt for some damage. No paralysis though. Amélie retaliates with a Sludge Bomb. No poisoning though.

Summary:
Pretty straightforward, the two have moved around a little but it was mainly just circling around each other in the centre. Still a few feet between them but that can easily be closed. Amélie is in her second third of health while Sparkplug is nearing it.

(Don’t mess with the ref )
(Sorry guys, it's Easter and I'm running short on time. Next round will have a reffing with a 300 word minimum. Promise.)

...I really don't think Water Pulse works like that, but as a safety precaution, let's mix things up. Begin with an Ice Punch to the face and see if you can't freeze his mouth so he can't use Sludge Bomb, then follow up with Secret Power

Hax is a wonderful thing.

Round 6: RNG says no

(Actually, I consider being wet to have the same effect on electric attacks as when a Pokémon stands in a Rain Dance)

With orders set in place, Amélie is first to react. The dino-rabbit opens up her mouth to reveal an orb of pale blue energy. Sparkplug takes his chance as well and charges forward, his fist raised in the air. His hand glows with even paler blue energy but before he can close the gap, the Nidoran launches her attack. The orb crashes into the Elekid, releasing a huge splash of WaterthatPulses over him. Confident with her attack, Amélie relaxes a little, dropping her guard in the process.
Then out of the screen of water emerges Sparkplug, undeterred by the attack and gained no status effect from the water except for being soaked. Amélie is surprised and can do little as the Elekid’s Punch comes crashing into her cheek, knocking her back a fair good bit as she skids across the floor (just a bit). In this cold environment, she should be happy that no Ice formed from that attack. Her mouth feels, just like Sparkplug’s hand, numb from the sheer cold but it’s not enough to stop her from attacking. She opens her mouth once again to form another orb of damage. This time it is a fluid consisting of the Nidoran’s own poison. Her typing allows her to pull of the move quicker than other mon and so the Bombs of Sludge get hurled across the battlefield, hardening in mid flight. With no specifics given on whether the attack was to be focussed or spread-out, the Nidoran opted for a the focussed version. The close proximity allowing for most of the attack to hit successfully but unfortunately allow the Elekid to escape poisoning. Sparkplug shakes of the poison as much as he can but remains drenched in water and sludge. Nevertheless, he closes the gap between the two again, being careful as he traverses the ice floor and gets up close to Amélie. His arm glows briefly with a white hue of Power. The same arm extends to make contact with the Nidoran, transferring the white hue from Sparkplug’s arm into the Nidoran’s head. The energy has some Secretive effect on the Nidoran as is evident by the sheer pain she appears to be in. The attacks takes its toll and strikes for some physical damage within the Nidoran but luckily for her, it doesn’t cause any lingering side effects.

Summary:
Getting tired again, they can pull of a two-mover if they like but consider when you want to rest (and consider the increased chances of slipping on ice when you’re tired). Both are in their second third of health but Sparkplug has the health advantage. His energy is lower though, having used more of it in exchange. Ice is enough to fuel another Ice Punch. Amélie’s water energy is practically non-existent at this point. Both are close to each other again.

Round 7: What's Your Status?

Both Pokémon stare each other down, wary of the other’s actions and even the slightest of movements. A crackle of electricity surges across the Elekid’s limbs while the Nidoran holds her breath long enough to gather venomous spit. They slightly shift to the side, circling each other, anxious for the first attack like two cowboys in a standoff. The venomous orb spit in Amélie’s mouth stops growing in size. The sound of bubbling seizes and sets of Sparkplug’s red flags. He Discharges himself, releasing an excessive build up of electricity towards his opponent. In a simultaneous matter, the Sludge Bomb is hurled in one single large projectile that hardens in midair. The two attacks miss each other with the sludge arching over the tendrils of electricity that travel underneath it. Both Pokémon are hit for damage and as for status:
Spoiler: show
Sparkplug is poisoned! The explosive force of the attack caught him with his mouth open as poisonous ooze seeps into his organs and soft tissue.

Summary:
A bit of damage done, a bit of energy lost for both. They feel a bit more rested in comparison to the previous round. Sparkplug is now poisoned and will feel the sting of it each round.
