Marc's Files

Name: Marc McAdam

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Class: Technophile (Major: Steel, Minor: Electric, Weakness: Ice)

Appearance: Marc's profile could easily be described as gaunt. Standing at 5' 9" with only lean muscle and fat on his wiry frame, Marc sports somewhat messy black hair that ends above his neck and fringes just above his eyebrows, hiding a good portion of his ears. Thin nose and lips, as well as dull brown eyes with a stare most can only pass off as "inscrutable", mean that Marc could easily pass off for a disillusioned teenager. His clothes tend to lend to this stereotype, as he's usually never seen without his grey hoodie, habitually covering his head; a few dark, grimy spots suggest that he hasn't had a replacement in years. Aside from this, he wears a thin T-shirt on the inside, slightly baggy jeans and running shoes. The sole other thing he carries is a PokéBall with a broken dial.

Personality: By first impressions, Marc is often considered antisocial and unapproachable from the way he carries himself. In truth, Marc merely doesn't go out of his way to associate with people, being often partial to quiet self-contemplation and wandering thought. By nature, he isn't antagonistic unless threatened, and even then is more likely to seek non-violent resolution as opposed to fighting back. Being "quiet" and "boring", as his siblings often put it, suited him just fine.

Background: Marc came from a family of Olivine industrialists, who had a cconsiderable yet humble history of working in the harbour city's metalworks, port and maritime operations; at least one son of each generation would hold a job in that industry, though it was not forced upon them. Marc grew up as the third of five siblings, and quickly learned not to fight for attention and keep out of sibling rivalry, withdrawing into his own world of quietude. His father worked between Kanto and Johto, helping supervise various maintenance projects in Olivine and Vermillion, leaving him little time at home with his family. That left his mother, who often ran herself tired raising three boys and two girls in a frugal setting.
Prior to the disaster, Marc had begun apprenticing at a local fix-it shop, putting his contemplative affinity to use (his parents could not afford schooling for all of them). His mentor considered him reliable, if not incredibly skilled, and also assigned him to feed and maintain the Pokémon the shop had befriended over the years. This was Marc's sole association with Pokémon, and while he did not consider himself a proper Trainer, he forged a familiar bond with the inorganic industralist Pokémon and delivery birds.
When disaster struck, the McAdams had retreated to their family bunker, though with Marc's father at sea, to this date no news of whether he lives or died have been heard. Already ragged from years of being the matriarch, Marc's mother sank into a forlorn state, leaving the McAdam children to fend for themselves.
Eventually Marc's elder sister, Sandra, gave him one of her old PokéBalls; a memento from her days of Pokémon Trainer education prior to the disaster. As one of the elder siblings in charge of caretaking for their mother and keeping the family afloat, she suggested that Marc embark on his own journey, one that she no longer had the opportunity to go on. Whether it was exile or encouragement, Marc cannot say - though he found no reason to disagree. From that day Marc left Olivine for the first time in his life, with the chance of finding direction in his otherwise aimless life (and, perhaps, a hint of his father) dimly indicated ahead of him.

Marc's Team

Name: Greave
Species: Quilladin
Level: 20
Mood: 169
Gender: Male
Type: Grass
Ability: Bulletproof
Nature: Careful
Residence: PokéBall
Held Item: Normalium Z
Origin: Starter
Level-Up Moves: Tackle, Growl, Vine Whip, Rollout, Bite, Leech Seed, Needle Arm, Pin Missile
Egg Moves: Quick Guard, Spikes, Synthesis
Move Tutor Moves:
Technical Moves: Brick Break, Nature Power, Power-Up Punch, Return, Thunder Punch
Hidden Moves:
Custom Moves:
Spike Slam - Focusing the energy from Spikes into his helmet, Greave tackles the target, dealing extra damage from the sharpened, hardened spikes.
Spike Lariat - Greave creates a spiked vine by focusing the energy from Spikes into a Vine Whip, which can be used for stronger grappling or attacking.
Spike Roll - Focusing the energy from Spikes into his helmet and back, Greave performs a roll. The lining of spikes can be used to deal extra damage to targets or to gain greater traction along surfaces while rolling.
Wrecking Ball - Greave tethers a Vine Whip to a vantage point and hoists himself into a swinging motion, flinging himself forward. He then releases himself and goes into Rollout or Spike Roll, using the momentum from the swing to increase his speed and impact.
Grieving Grassland - Greave launches the energy of Leech Seed into the form of encapsulated Spikes. The spikes launch parasitic tendrils that drain energy from whatever touches them. In a battle scenario, this counts as an entry hazard that affects any target sent out, but is neutralised by Grass-types.
Combo Custom Moves:
Spike Bomber (combo with Buzzsaw) - Greave performs Spike Roll while under the effects of Buzzsaw's Iron Imbue. The temporary coating of Steel-type energy increases the durability and strength of Greave's charge, and subsequently the damage immediately dealt towards the target.
Wrecking Meteor (combo with Buzzsaw) - Greave performs Wrecking Ball while under the effects of Buzzsaw's Iron Imbue. Works under similar basis to Spike Bomber, allowing Greave to break through stronger obstacles or deal increased damage.
Iron Chain of Command (combo with Buzzsaw) - Buzzsaw uses Iron Imbue and channels the energy down Greave's Vine Whip. This allows the properties of Iron Imbue to be passed onto stationary targets, including and besides Pokemon.
Livewire Lariat (combo with Force) - Force uses Shock Wave channeled down Greave's Vine Whip or Spike Lariat. When the vine is coiled multiple times around the same target, it helps to not only restrict the target but also deal more damage as a result of the overlapping circuit.
Biography: As a starter Pokémon, Greave was one of various specimens given out to starting Trainers in a time-honoured tradition. Greave had initially been given to Sandra, Marc's elder sister, as a gift for completing her basic Trainer's course, but owing to family duties and helping to pick things up after the disaster a decade ago, Sandra's plans on making her own journey were permanently put on ice. The then unnamed Chespin was eventually given to Marc as a partner for his journey, giving Greave a new lease on life as a Trainer's Pokémon after years of waiting.
Greave is noticeably more cautious and timid that most others of his species, though at present neither Marc nor Sandra has any idea what contributed to this personality trait.

Name: Buzzsaw
Species: Durant
Level: 20
Mood: 168
Gender: Male
Type: Bug/Steel
Ability: Swarm
Nature: Hasty
Residence: Net Ball
Held Item: None
Origin: Olivine Bay
Level-Up Moves: Guillotine, Iron Defence, Metal Sound, Vice Grip, Sand-Attack, Fury Cutter, Bite, Agility, Metal Claw, Bug Bite
Egg Moves: Baton Pass, Thunder Fang(?), Feint Attack(?)
Move Tutor Moves:
Technical Moves: Return
Hidden Moves:
Custom Moves:
Steel Sever - Buzzsaw coats his jaws with Steel energy similar to Iron Defence, but instead of increasing physical defence he hardens them to toughen them up temporarily. He then uses the strengthened jaws to use Guillotine with devastating impact. Due to the unwieldy nature of Guillotine, however, this attack still has a severe accuracy issue.
Steel Snap - A weaker version of Steel Sever that combines Iron Defence with Bite instead. The usage of Bite instead of Guillotine makes this attack much quicker to pull off and more likely to land a hit.
Iron Imbue - Buzzsaw alters the effect of his Iron Defence in a similar manner to when he uses Steel Sever, and passes on this effect to another teammate with Baton Pass. The recipient subsequently gains the steel-like properties Buzzsaw had, including strengthened defences and attack boost, but unlike a normal Baton Passed Iron Defence this effect is only temporary.
Wrecking Meteor (combo with Greave) - Greave performs Wrecking Ball while under the effects of Buzzsaw's Iron Imbue. The temporary coating of Steel-type energy increases the durability and strength of Greave's subsequent projectile strike, allowing him to break through stronger obstacles or deal increased damage.
Iron Chain of Command (combo with Buzzsaw) - Buzzsaw uses Iron Imbue and channels the energy down Greave's Vine Whip. This allows the properties of Iron Imbue to be passed onto stationary targets, including and besides Pokemon.
Biography:
Buzzsaw was encountered by chance in Olivine City; a specimen driven to the point of going feral after suffering malnutrition and heavy metal poisoning for an unspecified amount of time, suggesting a greater industrial conspiracy that Marc barely scratched the surface of. After a harrowing first wild battle, Buzzsaw was unwillingly captured following a failed attempt at diplomacy. Noted to have a tendency to fly off the handle quickly, just about everything looks like prey to Buzzsaw, and it's up to Marc to try and temper the destructive insect.

Name: Force
Species: Snorlax
Level: 20
Mood: 113
Gender: Male
Type: Normal
Ability: Immunity
Nature: Naive
Residence: PokéBall
Held Item: Leftovers
Origin: Golden Forest
Level-Up Moves: Last Resort, Snatch, Recycle, Lick, Metronome, Odour Sleuth, Tackle, Defence Curl, Belly Drum, Amnesia, Chip Away, Headbutt
Egg Moves: Fissure, Pursuit
Move Tutor Moves:
Technical Moves: Blizzard, Brick Break, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Ice Punch, Power-Up Punch, Shadow Ball, Shock Wave, Thunder Punch, Water Pulse
Hidden Moves:
Special Moves: Happy Hour
Custom Moves:
Taser Taster - Force coats his tongue in electricity from Shock Wave and Licks the target. The electricity enhances Lick's damage and chance of inflicting paralysis.
Combo Custom Moves:
Livewire Lariat (combo with Greave) - Force uses Shock Wave channeled down Greave's Vine Whip or Spike Lariat. When the vine is coiled multiple times around the same target, it helps to not only restrict the target but also deal more damage as a result of the overlapping circuit.
Biography:
Force's species did not usually appear around the Golden Forest - his presence was a bizarre occurrence of miraculous happenstance. For some reason he managed to escape being caught by hunting Trainers visiting Ecruteak to take advantage of the swarm, coming across Marc on his eastward journey. After some tussling with poachers, Force willingly volunteered to join the troop when Marc and Greave ensured his safety. Following several adventures with the team as they slogged around eastern Johto, The Trials of Kin Island unlocked Force's true potential and triggered his massive evolution, but he still appears as childlike as ever and generous with his food, oddly for his species - and certainly at odds with Buzzsaw's voracious nature.

Name: Dustbowl
Species: Hippopotas
Level: 19
Mood: 105
Gender: Male
Type: Ground
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Adamant
Residence: PokéBall
Held Item: Quick Claw
Origin: Mount Mortar Riverbed (Blackthorn Desert)
Level-Up Moves: Tackle, Sand-Attack, Bite, Yawn, Dig, Take Down
Egg Moves: Revenge, Slack Off, Whirlwind
Move Tutor Moves:
Technical Moves: Water Pulse
Hidden Moves:
Custom Moves:
Erosion Fang - Dustbowl bites the target while his mouth swirls with sand particles from Sand-Attack or Sand Stream. The sand repeatedly wears against the bitten surface, reducing defences slightly but deals no extra damage on its own.
Sand Sneeze - Dustbowl fires Whirlwind through his mouth or nose filled with lots of sand from Sand-Attack at the target. While it doesn't deal much damage, it inflicts an accuracy debuff and considerable knockback. The usage of Whirlwind also gives the sand considerably more range.
Dream Dust - Dustbowl incorporates the substance used in Yawn and releases a combination of that with his sand, lowering the opponent's accuracy and making them drowsy over time.
Dream Desert - A widespread version of Dream Dust that incorporates the usage of Dustbowl's Sand Stream, but due to the increased reach of this move the drowsiness inducement is weakened.
Combo Custom Moves:
Biography:
Dustbowl was encountered during the team's travels towards Mahogany, as an invasive and injured wild specimen brought out of the Blackthorn Desert region. Apparently displaced as a result of poachers, Dustbowl followed Marc to witness his decisions and actions until deciding it was worthwhile joining as Marc involved himself in resolving Mahogany's own smuggling crisis. Dustbowl is more of an observer than offender, though he won't hesitate to unleash his fury and control over sand to those he deems as having earned it.

Name: Racket
Species: Noibat
Level: 18
Mood: 138
Gender: Male
Type: Dragon/Flying
Ability: Infiltrator
Nature: Lonely
Residence: PokéBall
Held Item: None
Origin: Dragon's Den
Level-Up Moves: Screech, Supersonic, Tackle, Absorb, Leech Life, Gust, Bite, Wing Attack, Agility
Egg Moves: Outrage, Snatch, Tailwind
Move Tutor Moves:
Technical Moves: Brick Break, Return, Shadow Ball, Water Pulse
Hidden Moves:
Custom Moves:
Combo Custom Moves:
Biography:
Racket was a specimen of Noibat about to undergo a mass migration with others of his kind until neglect and ostracism from others and some Blackthorn caretakers drove him over the edge. As a part of trials Marc and company had to undergo to prove their mettle and prepare for a southbound journey, Marc encountered and tamed the rambunctious Dragon, who offered to join him after a ceremonial battle. Racket appears to be used to being the "runt" of whatever group he's in, which fuels much of his motivation.
