Kecleon Talon87 vs kaisap112

That Myrrh person over on Serebii is really pretty. Should I ask her out?

If this first post looks familiar it is because I copy/pasted what I put on the last topic, but I changed some stuff around since then. I have just as much fun finding out how the duel will go as you guys, so let's have fun with this. And with that, here are the rules and stuff, mostly taken from other battles and the rules thread.

* I make these threads after you have both already PM'd me each of your decks, so that's done.
* I will deal out each player's hand of 7 by PM.
* After that, both of you PM me what your Active and Benched (if any) Pokemon will be. Then the prize cards will be sorted out, each one assigned a number from 1-6.
* Then I will decide who will go first by virtual coin flip. That player will receive their drawn card through PM and act, then the other player does the same, then back again.

Remember:
-Editing of posts is NOT allowed ever. Be very sure of what your move is before posting.
-Be sure to state that you are ending your turn when you intend to do so. You don't really need to do so if you attack since attacks end the turn anyway, but do so if you want.
-Cards like Bill and Pokeball require the ref to respond before the player's turn can be carried out. When using such cards, end your post with *Awaiting Ref PM* or something like that. Results will be posted on the thread or only to the card user via PM based on the nature of the card effect. The player then double posts if needed, or after I have whenever results were revealed in the thread.
-Please try to have each command/action be stated as its own line.
Ex:
"I attach a Grass Energy to Oddish"
"I retreat Oddish to the Bench, making Pikachu my Active pokemon"
"I attack with Pikachu's Thundershock"
*End Turn*

If you need to look at the TCG rules, hopefully this is suitable, it seems to be up to date. Da Rules *Basic and essentials I think, advance stuff might be found elsewhere if needed*

Just a bit more preparation on my end needed before this can all get underway . 3

Talon87 attaches a Grass Energy to Erika's Dratini and ends his turn.

Obviously I will choose to resolve Erika's Dratini's Pokémon Power after the resolution of PlusPower, so ... the damage should still be reduced to 10 at the end of turn. Just pointing that out.

Quote:
Strange Barrier: Whenever an attack by a Basic Pokémon (including your own) does 20 or more damage to Erika's Dratini (after applying Weakness and Resistance), reduce that damage to 10. (Any other effects of attacks still happen.) This power stops working while Erika's Dratini is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Quote:
PlusPower: Attach PlusPower to your Active Pokémon. At the end of your turn, discard PlusPower. If this Pokémon's attack does damage to the Defending Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance), the attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon.
The extra damage isn't "any other effect": it's the very "20 or more damage" the ability Strange Barrier is talking about in the first place. "Any other effect" would mean anything other than the damage output, so things like paralysis, sleep, and so on.

EDIT: Not sure if we're even going by new card rulings or what, but the new text on PlusPower says:
Quote:
PlusPower: During this turn, your Pokémon's attacks do 10 more damage to the Active Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance).
Probably to avoid this sort of "stack stall war" in the first place.

Talon, I'll take that post as "ooh you messed up". But if the rules say no editing posts after the fact, then I won't edit them. I'll just be more careful next time.

If you want to take it back, I'll allow it this one time. I'm just saying, you can't use PlusPower to skirt around Strange Barrier because Strange Barrier's very reason for being is to reduce damage dealt by basic stage Pokémon from n to 10, because PlusPower specifically augments damage, and because they both resolve "after applying weakness and resistance," which means it's each player's choice when to resolve their own action, and in the case of perpetual stalemates (which is what this would otherwise become), most WotC TCGs defer to the player in the defensive position.

Spoiler: show
Also: it's all but impossible to find rulings for this specific scenario ("Player A used PlusPower against Player B's Erika's Dratini"), but I did manage to find this Pojo.com Q&A article where someone was in Kaisap's position and wrote in to the Pojo people, having felt cheated by his opponent who was in my position and insisted the damage should only be 10. The Pojo ref sided with the Talon character and chastised the guy in Kaisap's position for calling the Talon guy stupid. ^^;

Truth be told, I forgot all about Strange Barrier. So no skirting there. ^^'' But I'll remove the PlusPower then.

Since the whole editing thing is okay with both of you I guess it's no issue this time.

kaisap112 does indeed have a Psychic Energy in Hand and is attached to Erika's Dratini.

Attacks with Tail Strike: Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 10 damage plus 20 more damage; if tails, this attack does 10 damage.
Coin Flip
.....................HEADS! Tail Strike deals 20 more damage, 30 in all.

Talon87's Erika's Dratini's Pokemon's Powers's activate's.

Strange Barrier: Whenever an attack by a Basic Pokémon (even your own) does 20 or more damage to Erika's Dratini (after applying Weakness and Resistance), reduce that damage to 10. (Any other effects of attacks still happen.) This power stops working while Erika's Dratini is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.

Talon87 does indeed have a Scyther in Hand and is placed on the Bench.

Attaches a Grass Energy to Erika's Dratini.

Has and plays Super Energy Removal: Discard 1 Energy card attached to 1 of your own Pokémon in order to choose 1 of your opponent's Pokémon

One Grass Energy from Talon87's Erika's Dratini is removed. Both Energy from kaisap112's Erika's Dratini are removed.

kaisap112 Turn 4

kaisap112 does indeed have a Potion in Hand and is used on Erika's Dratini.
Potion: Remove up to 2 damage counters from 1 of your Pokémon.

Also has Gust of Wind and is Played.
Gust of Wind: Choose 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon and switch it with his or her Active Pokémon.

Talon87's Scyther becomes his new Active Pokemon.

kaisap112 uses Pluspower on Erika's Dratini.
Pluspower: Attach PlusPower to your Active Pokémon. At the end of your turn, discard PlusPower. If this Pokémon's attack does damage to the
Defending Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance), the attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon.

Attacks with....well nothing, since on the previous turn kaisap112's Erika's Dratini had both of its Energy removed. Pluspower will go to waste.

Turn ends.
