Round 10

Ok I just spent like an hour on the legend reffing and I have essays to plan/write and packing to do. And at least an hour's travel to deal with tonight. So, snappy snappy!

Missy backs away, using Hex! It deals extra damage because of the burns, but Brian is able to use Torment! Missy can't use moves consecutively, for a period of time I don't remember!

Missy backs away but doesn't use anything because Brian is a troll beard! Brian uses Hyper Voice, which deals very good damage to Missy!

Both pokémon are fast approaching 1/4 health, Missy a bit worse off. Missy didn't use much energy, Brian used a bit more but is not panty. there is quite a lot of distance but they can still tell each others' locations.

Round 11

See previous italics. But replace packing with yet more essay writing.

Brian bellows, using Uproar. It's a low yield move, but Sneezey is threatened. He has Missy use GHOSTDIG!, and I think I'm gonna add a pokémon that can do that as a sig move, avoiding the move. Missy is now undrground, but charging a physical move.

...

...

O.o

...

Alright I'll ref that as being possible, Missy charging lots of energy about herself. She rushes upwards and smacks Brian with a Giga Impact, dealing extreme amounts of damage. However, she's left to take the subsequent Hyper Voice in solid form, unable to dodge.

Ok, so both pokémon are in the final health quarter. Solid amounts of damage will likely seal the deal. Missy just used Giga Impact so is probably going to be too slow to avoid fainting, but Brian did use a fair amount of energy himself.

Torment still in play.

Round 13

Definitely didn't forget about this last night...

Recalling his fallen Mismagius, Sneezey skips to another generation with his third selection. This time, it's Keaira, a female Sableye who has an I_D style sig move which totally isn't Shadow Ball, as well as a fairly decent movepool generally and (almost) no weaknesses! A tough pokémon for Dave to crack, perhaps, particularly as he didn't bring any Fighting types.

As the fog thickens, the new arrival looks to act quickly and prevent herself from taking the brunt of a round's ear bashing. She glows pink and releases a wave of powder laced power at Brian. This is Secret Power, a staple move from the Hoenn games and nice way to try for status on your opponents. Brian tries to use Protect to stave off the damage, but Keaira is too quick. With a soft pattering of spores, the attack hits home, knocking the last of the health out of Brian's bar and in to the ether. As the fog thickens once more, becoming much more of an obstacle that when it first graced the scene, Brian faints. Swirly eyes adorn his face and Sneezey smiles in satisfaction.

Brian Blessed is unable to battle!

Just a Secret Power from Keaira. She's ready for more.

See if you'd reffed confusion properly then this wouldn't have happened because I'd have a Secret Power's extra health.

"Return Brian, well battled despite the odds against you.

Gorrath, let's knock them down."

Quote:
Gorrath: Male Crustle
Crustle: (Bug/Rock) - With a heavy shell of rock on its back, Crustle is a slow-moving Pokémon, having difficulty moving at much more than a fast crawl. However, Crustle’s shell is extremely hard and durable, granting it a boost in physical defence, though its vulnerable body will still take full damage.
Bugs can, in most cases, see in the dark. While most live in warm climates, they hate fire, and dislike cold.
Rock-types generally have hard bodies, which makes them resistant to unskilled (non-fighting) blows. However, most are so heavy that they will sink in water, so they stay away from deep-water sources if possible. Rock-types prefer heat to cold.
Bio: One of the embodiments of defence on my squad, Gorrath is both strong and sturdy. While he bears little resemblance to his namesake owing to extreme tenuousness, he still hates opposing forces made of metal. Owing to this, he's studied the techniques of my various Fire-types, especially envious of Susan and her access to Lava Plume. With a few attempts, he managed to develop his own take on this move, trying to better defend himself.

Special Attack - Trebuchet (RK/FI):
Gorrath creates a sphere of Rock as he would Rock Wrecker, firing it upward in an arc to strike the opponent, taking considerable energy for equal damage. However, when specified, he puts a extra light amount of energy into the attack and ignites it, turning it into a fireball and causing it to deal considerable Fire damage for heavy energy overall. Gorrath has enough energy to use the Fire style twice per battle.
"Toss out a ranged X-Scissor to start, then rattle her with a Bulldoze."

Round 14

His Exploud fainted from a combination of too much damage and my secret desire to see Dave lose every match he's in, the bearded one extends and arm to and does the weird buttonless thing that triggers the return beam. Doing the second buttonless motion to make his ball INEXPLICABLY SHRINK, he tosses out the sixth pokéball of the match. Emerging with a clack of his pincers and a look of contempt for his ghostly opponent, Gorrath the Crustle looks ready for battle. A decent balance of three weaknesses to two resistances still considered pretty good, Gorrath could struggle with only Rock Smash to call upon, but perhaps clever use of less direct techniques will net Dave the win.

Opening with a move that in my opinion is ridiculous, Dave orders an X-Scissor, to be fired off at range! Gorrath stretches, charging Bug energy in to his claw tips, before sharply crossing them and releasing the energy in a brilliant X shape towards the shining gems of the Sableye's eyes. Almost simultaneously, Keaira charges an orb of Water typed energy between her hands, strafing towards the petrified forest as she goes. This is Water Pulse, a third generation move also sporting two uses. The Dark and Ghost type looses the resulting orb as Gorrath's attack picks up speed. The projectiles pass each other, striking their targets nice and cleanly. Gorrath roars as the super effective attack strikes him in the shell, its damage reduced slightly by the strong defence but still significantly painful. Across the way, Keaira takes the hit to the side of her body as she attempts to scrabble to safety. She flinches from the pain, but gets a foothold nonetheless (there's only so much I'll let you abuse "without using a move").

His mind filled with thoughts of icy golems and freeze rays, Dave continues with a Bulldoze. Gorrath rears up high, before pummelling the ground hard and sending out a number of Ground typed energy shockwaves. Keaira is shaken up. Although she largely avoids the damage by holding on to her tree bark perch, she can't maintain the grip and falls down on her behind, taking a bit of damage that way instead. Her eyes glinting, she follows her second orders to fire a Power Gem. This Rock typed special attack is decent enough at causing pain to Bug types and flies out with great glitter and aesthetic fanfare. This time she hits her mark more perfectly, hitting Gorrath right in the chops! The Bug and Rock type grimaces from this familiar poison, but the match is still all to play for as the two face off through the thickening mists of the arena.

So, heavy damage to Gorrath drops him below 3/4, but Keaira is heading swiftly for 3/4 herself. In terms of energy, there's not too much difference in expenditure for the round. Keaira is at 1/2 Water and Rock, while her total is still above 3/4. Gorrath's Ground fuels an Earthquake.

The two are quite far apart but can still basically see each other. Well enough to accurately target, anyway. The mists would now be a significant obstacle to sight if the distance were increased by much.

Round 15

For some reason I keep not remembering to ref this. Since I can't get in to essay mode, here you go!

Peering through the thickening fog with ease, Kaeira dips in to her bag of tricks and brings our a Confuse Ray. Her jewelled eyes glow intently, a wave of ethereal energy billowing out in a narrow guage pattern and traversing the smog like lasers in a frat rave. Sneezey's use of a status move going first is potentially risky as it can be neutralised with ease, but it forces Dave to react, thus helping to control the flow of battle. In this case, Dave simply orders Gorrath to close his eyes. The little critter shields himself from the attack, meaning that the ghostly light that washes over him has no effect whatsoever. Kaeira tuts in annoyance, her plans ruined by the thin membranes of some eyelids.

Opting to increase the distance between his pokémon and Dave's, Sneezey orders his pokémon to retreat in to the shadows of the woods. Kaira' light and slender form lithely travels up and in to the trees, leaping between them lie a dark spirit of the night. The effect is quite chilling, but Dave is resolute. He orders Gorrath to set up a Stealth Rock. The Crustle obliges, channelling his Rock typed reserves and stomping hard on the ground. From beneath the murky surface of the bog come boulders, strangely coloured and raggedly hewn, which lance through the fog like meteorites to strike at Kaeira. Dave is gratified to hear the yelp of pain and the squelch of the rocks retreating under the swamp's filth, but he worries as it's now very hard to make out where his foe is. Gorrath scans the fog in front of him, making out two glinting jewels some way away past the deathly shining of the torches. While Kaeira can still see her foe quite clearly, Gorrath might have trouble finding her up in the trees at this distance. And there's only so many times you can set up an entry hazard!

A simple round sees Kaeira dip below 3/4 health and Gorrath use the greater energy. One movers were appreciated and both pokémon are fresh. Dave has now set up Stealth Rock. Kaeira is some metres up and, while Gorrath can still make out her eyes, targetting her will not be as simple as point and shoot. They're quite some distance apart.
