Magikarp UPN PASBL: DaveTheFishGuy vs. Ethereal

With the large majority of the refs in the league being on hiatus, and Dave quite unable to ref for himself, I am finding myself taking this match. This is sure to be interesting as we find ourselves... where? Oh yes, Mount Deepgreen!

What a beautiful landscape, yes? No? Yes. It's beautiful. Deal with it.

Anyway, let's just have a look at those match stats...

Right. Fairly standard. Save for the oddity that is 5 on 5 which sits right in between the two realms of "lol I get two three movers" and EPIC BATTLE. Also DQ set to only 24 hours means this match should be moving very quickly. Should be. Meaning I have to ref frequently. Yay.

Anyway, on to the battle order to start, which both of you should obviously know by now but I'll post just for the sake of newbies who may be reading this but probably aren't because newbies don't read matches.

Ta Sneezy, and good luck Ethe. I'll try to bring an equally-funtimes squad so... right.

Onslaught Badge
Global Badge
The badge of the Donnybrook Shopping Mall, emblazoned with a flaming fist representing justice. This badge is given to trainers who triumphed in the Mall, and represents their skill and determination to win in an all out assault.
Badge Effect: Furious Onslaught
This badge allows the wielder to use one additional Three Move Combo in all of their matches.

Level 6:

SEAKING: Male Seaking
Seaking: (Water) - Seaking are excellent swimmers, but are helpless on land. However, in the water, they can swim against incredibly powerful currents, and are much more likely to get out of attacks like Whirlpool.
Water Pokémon are able to hold their breath under water. The time varies, from about half an hour to one hour for reptilians and mammals, and indefinitely for fish and squid like Pokémon. They are also, generally, good swimmers.
Bio: 'FUCK YEAH SEAKING', that's how the meme goes. No-one knows how, or why. But SEAKING is that meme incarnate. Insanely powerful compared to others of his species, this individual has the angry eyebrows that people have come to expect from the various images circulating around the interent. And is just as mental.

Special Training - FUCK YEAH SEAKING:
SEAKING is just plain awesome. Through tapping into the power of memes, he has gained the power of flight, managing a flight ceiling and speed comparable to a Starmie. In the water, this manifests as a slightly faster swimming speed, though Seaking are strong swimmers to start with. This is because Seaking is so awesome, Gravity doesn't even try to restrain it.

George: Male Pinsir
Pinsir: (Bug) - Pinsir's arms aren't very strong, and its short, stubby legs make it difficult to run long distances. To compensate, its pincers are fairly powerful, and any attack requiring them is 1.25 times as powerful as normal.
Bugs can, in most cases, see in the dark. While most live in warm climates, they hate fire, and dislike cold.
Bio: Another of the ASBL's Fab Four, George plays Lead Guitar in the Beetles' lineup. Despite being given the form of a Pokémon from Gen I, and a Kick-arse on at that, he's often disappointed at his movepool, and wishes that he could get some assistance. Missing his bandmates in battle, he's managed to find a way to figuratively bring them along for a hand.

Special Attack - With a Little Help from My Friends (EL/FT/FL):
George uses a form of Beat Up, with a twist. He summons up forms similar to the standard Beat Up, though they are of John the Volbeat, Paul the Heracross and Ringo the Ledian. The three then rush at the opponent, just like the standard Beat Up, and each hit for moderate damage. Volbeat's tackle deals Electric-type damage, Heracross' Fighting, and Ledian's Flying. This attack takes twice the energy of Beat Up to perform, a third of the total from each of the three type pools. With a Little Help from My Friends is usable once per match. George cannot use Mimic, Double Team, Substitute, Bulk Up, Revenge, Faint Attack, Knock Off or Iron Defence.

Neonleo: Male Luxray
Luxray: (Electric) - Luxray's hearing is more sensitive than normal, at the expense of making it more vulnerable to sound attacks.
Electric-types, in general, prefer areas where their Electric attacks are most accurate. Thus, while hot temperatures don’t bother them, the fact that heat refracts electricity doesn’t appeal to them.
Bio: Having heard something as I set up camp, I sent out Harbinger to investigate. A scuffll followed in some bushes, before a series of electric and firey bursts issued forth. Running to check, I saw Harbinger battling a little Shinx, who had been tracking us to swipe food. I managed to capture him, which my Houndour seemed to approve of. Neonleo soon fitted in, missing the same sort of pack lifestyle as Harbinger, and the two bonded closely. He always seemed to be a bit skittish, though that seems to have been reduced following his evolution, as he is now a confident Luxio. He loves the night, thanks to his species family's ability to see in X-Ray. One night, as he was focusing on something, he generated a burst of radiation which zapped where he was looking. Through focusing this power, he managed to wield it as a move.

Special Attack - Overexposure (EL/PO):
Overexposure fires a beam of concentrated X-Rays from Neonleo's eyes, appearing similar to Hidden Power. The beam is made up of electricity, as well as radiation, and deals both Electric damage of a Thunderbolt, and Poison damage of half a Poison Jab. Due to the radioactive nature of the attack, it has a 30% chance to poison the target, and a 10% chance to badly poison (a la Toxic). The attack consumes the energy of 1.5x Thunderbolt of Electric energy, and 50% of Neonleo's Poison energy, so he can only use this move twice per match. Due to learning this move, Neonleo cannot use Toxic, Hidden Power, Spark, Thunderbolt, Flash, Magnet Rise or Swift.

Susan: Female Camerupt
Camerupt: (Fire/Ground) - Camerupt tend to be only slightly-less apathetic than their Numel bretheren, although their higher intelligence gives them a better ability to follow orders. However, they become extremely angry when struck in the face: a Camerupt struck in the face by an opponent will focus almost exclusively on that target to the exclusion of all other concerns unless something else starts to become a bigger problem or gets in the way of Camerupts's revenge. Until its target has fallen Camerupt will be extremely emotional and responsive but more vulnerable to confusion. Camerupt will also be winded for up to three rounds after its beserker rage has ended, with longer periods of rage meaning more downtime.
Fire-types love hot temperatures. Most can survive in hot liquids/molten lava for an extended period of time. If a Fire Pokémon has a flame somewhere on its body, it will take extra damage if a water attack hits the flame. Otherwise, Fire Pokémon are not adversely affected by taking dips in bodies of water, so long as the time is short. They are somewhat weak to Water, taking 150%, 210+% if hit on open flames.
Ground Pokémon are considered to be immune to electricity while standing on the ground. If a Ground Pokémon is in the air, they take 75% the normal damage from electric attacks. If a Ground-type is wet, electric attacks affect it normally (unless the Pokémon is naturally wet/slimy, like Quagsire).
Bio: Under construction
No Signature Move

Darktan: Male Raticate
Raticate: (Normal) - A Raticate's whiskers give it better balance than most Pokémon. However, if they are cut off, it will slow their speed and agility. Rattata and Raticate have powerful biting attacks, and any biting attack used by a Rattata or a Raticate does 1.25 times the damage. Raticate can see in the dark and have sensitive hearing, at the expense of greater vulnerability to sound attacks.
Normal-types can use the greatest variety of attacks in the league: they pay for this, however, by having less type energy. They are resistant to nothing, and are weak to Fighting, taking double damage.
Bio: Under construction
No Signature Move

Rob: Male Hypno
Hypno: (Psychic) - Drowzee and Hypno are both Pokémon that focus on sleep-related attacks. Their Hypnosis, Dream Eater, and Nightmare attacks are more powerful than normal. Hypno’s Hypnosis attack is released through its pendulum.
Psychics are considered to automatically be familiar with psychic abilities. Thus, they can use Psychic to move and toss Pokémon. If facing a non-Bug, non-Dark opponent, Psychics can sense their opponent somewhat, making accuracy reducing attacks less effective.
Bio: Under construction
No Signature Move

Round The First - A Wild Reffing Appeared!

Things are finally underway here at Mt. Deepgreen, and the trainers send out their first Pokemon for the match. From Dave we have Neonleo, a Luxray, which is not the Electric cat I was expecting when I was asked if I could handle reffing for such a thing.

t(-.-t)

Well, Ethe follows with a Chandelure, Lumiere, who gets infinite cool points for referencing a Disney movie. come back ABL Let's pull up the species info on these two, shall we?

Chandelure can float and move with a decent amount of agility in the air. Their arms, despite seeming solid, are actually relatively moveable and prehensile.

[Fire]: Fire types love hot temperatures. Most can survive in hot liquids/molten lava for an extended period of time (indefinitely in the case of Magby, Magmar, Slugma and Magcargo). You have no idea how tempted I am to basically c/p one of the reffings I just did and use it for this round. >>;

Yes well, they both get a nice view of the cliff covered area as their trainers issue orders. A quick moment later Lumiere waves one on his bendable metal arms, because for some reason they work like that. Pokemon, go figure. This creates a few blue flames that make their way towards Neonleo. The Luxray is beyond prepared for the Will-O-Wisp, though, and simply erects (insert overused joke here) a fairly transparent Light Screen, the wall easily soaking up the flames without even the slightest hint of buckling. So, seeing this, what does Lumiere do? He decides if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Of course this means he waves his limb again and creates some more flames. This batch of Will-O-Wisp fares no better than the first, and the screen takes it all, taking only a few cracks in the process. Neonleo decides that after playing defense the whole round, it's time to go on the offense. And what better to go on the offense with than a little typespam? He lets loose a nasty Snarl, creating a wave of Dark energy imbued with fear inducing somethingorothers. The wave smacks Lumiere hard, pushing him upwards a tad, and leaving him a tad shaken, for while he may be a Ghost, he certainly still knows fear. This leaves them a smidge further than standard battling distance as the round comes to a close.

Neonleo took no damage this round. Energy usage wasn't anything to brag about either, and is still ready to keep on keeping on. Light Screen is still up and can a bit more punishment before going down.

Lumiere took a nice hit, but is far from out of this fight. Energy use wasn't exactly high this round, and is still raring for a fight.

Dave, your orders please.

Bad dave, ordering SP in the second round. :p

Astonish to dart around the power and crash through the screen, keep the latter as your priority. Toss him back with a Psychic Wave, preferably before the discharge. Astonish instead if you didn't break the screen.

Round The Second - Minor Statuses Suck Sometimes

Sorry for the wait, wasn't aware this match was waiting on me. Next time just say something a little sooner.

Well this round is rather simplistic, as our friend the Luxray lets off a slightly off-white wave of Secret Power, the powder-infused energy smacking Lumiere, who is a bit too shaken by Neonleo's previous attack to really do anything at the moment. The pain is a good motivator to get back on his feet... er... floating metal appendages, though. Neonleo prepares another attack, Discharging a bolt of electricity. The Chandelure is ready this time, though, darting at Neonleo at a slight angle to try to avoid the attack. The distance between the two makes it a bit easier for Neonleo to aim his attack though, and the bolt glances off of Lumiere's limbs for a partial hit. The Chandelure continues onward, albeit a tad slowed by the hit, and smashes through the previously set up screen, the Astonish not really catching Neonleo off guard, though, given the amount of distance Lumiere had to travel. This leaves the combatants in melee range on the ground as the round ends.

Neonleo took some slight damage this round, and is basically fine. Energy use wasn't too huge, and is still ready for a brawl. His Light Screen is now gone. May need a short break in the near future.

Lumiere took a nice amount of damage, and is nearing the hill on health already. Energy use was low, and has plenty left in the tank.

Ethe, orders if you'd be so kind.

Round The Third - Estimated End Time: 2014

Wow, has it already been this long since orders were posted here? Oo

Lumiere starts off the round by coating himself in fire. Which is always cool right? Or, rather, hot... yeah, that was a bad joke. Anyway he proceeds to Flame Charge straight into Neonleo, who simply sits there and takes it like a champ, prepared to counter attack by taking a swipe at Lumiere, claws covered in Dark energy. The Night Slash hits home for some nice damage, causing Lumiere's escape to be more of a retreat. The Chandelure then turns himself about, sending off a few small flames at his opponent in an attempt to burn him. But Neonleo decides to show Lumiere how a head on attack is done, as he starts off on a Wild Charge into his foe, blasting through the Will-o-Wisp with ease, taking no burns along the way, pouncing up to his foe and smacking him to the ground before pinning him there as any proper cat would. This is where they stay as the round comes to a close.

Neonleo took some nice damage, but isn't at the midpoint quite yet. Energy use was a bit higher than average, but is still pretty good there, though he would like a break soon.

Lumiere took a good bit of damage, sitting close to the final midpoint at this point. Energy use was a tad lower than his opponent, but that area is by far the least of his problems right now.

Dave, orders please.

Round The Fourth - Chuggin' Along

Neonleo uses his initiative to overcome his slight tiredness and release a Discharge of Electric energy onto Lumiere, but while most of the attack makes contact, not all of it does, as Neonleo finds himself propelled upwards by a Psychic blast coming from his opponent. While the electricity didn't hit in it's entirety, it did fulfill one function, however, as Lumiere finds himself unable to move, his metal rods locked up in paralysis. This of course means he cannot perform his second attack, and as such the round ends with the two just outside melee distance.

Neonleo took a nice hit, and has passed the midpoint now. Energy use was fairly low, and he has plenty to continue the battle.

Lumiere took another nice hit, and is in his final range of health now. Energy was fairly low himself, but that is not in anyway a concern for him now.

Ethe, your orders please.

Round The Fifth - Getting Somewhere

...lol I thought we were waiting on Ethe again for some reason.

Both Pokemon pretty simultaneously get off their first attacks of the round, a mighty and direct Flamethrower from Lumiere and a fairly widespread Shock Wave from Neonleo. The attacks go straight passed eachother and strike their targets fairly effectively for nice damage, it would also seem that Lumiere has finally caught a lucky break, a small burn appearing on his foe's right side. Something actually fun happens next, as Lumiere creates an eye of Ghost energy, feeding off his sadistic side, and thus amplified by the newfound burn his opponent has. But as the Hex takes a moment to fire, the Chandelure finds himself struck by a Thunder. The attack causes the ghost to collapse to the ground unconsious. Neonleo doesn't really get to celebrate though, as the eye shoots off its attack in this instant for some nice damage.

Lumiere is unable to battle!

Neonleo took some nice damage, and has just passed the hill now. Energy use was a bit high, and he's dipped down into the lower reaches now, though still a pretty good amount left. Has a small burn on his right side.

Ethe, next Pokemon and orders please.

Round The Sixth - The Joker

Lumiere is promptly recalled and replaced by a Mr. Mime. Wait, why is he dancing?

Some people call me the space cowboy yeah
Some call me the ganster of love
Some people call me Maurice
'Cause I speak of the pompetous of love

And with a snap of his fingers it turns out he's less of a lover and more of a sinner, a Psywave rushing forth at his exhausted foe, striking with the majority of the attack's full seven rings for some nice damage. Neonleo finds himself a little offput by the strange attributes of the attack, but this certainly doesn't last long as the powdery aura of a Secret Otter Ower Power strikes the beast. Luckily for Neonleo this comes without any nasty status effects, and the Luxray charges Bug energy into one of the most widespread moves there is movepool speaking, the Signal Beam shooting forward towards our joker, smoker, mid-night toker, who apparently does a good job of getting his lovin' on the run, dodging a good bit of the attack, the beam hitting for only a partial blow. The round comes to a close with the two at standard battling distance.

Neonleo took some nice hits and is now getting oh-so-close to critical ranges. Energy use was average, and he's starting to fall low there too. Appreciated the break, though, especially given the lack of movement to aggrivate his burn.

Maurice took a good hit from the partial super effective blow, and is making his way towards the first midpoint already. Energy use was average, and ooh wee baby, he's ready to show you a good time.

Dave.
