UPN PASBL: Gym Match: Concept (GL) vs. Torkoal Stu

Concept (GL) vs Torkoal Stu (c)
4 vs 4
Singles
Slapstick
Switch=Gym
48 Hour DQ
Equilevel 4
The Cascadium
An indoor arena with no windows, standard arena dimensions - as high as it is wide. Filled half to the top with water. Artificial lighting. Occupying the centre, about a third the length and width of the total arena, is a mesa made of clay and stone - mostly clay towards the outside, getting more and more rocky as you go deeper into it. The flat top is about six inches below the surface of the water. High up on the walls at each end of the arena is a box for the trainer to stand and survey the battlefield - the wall beneath the leaders box is adorned with a mural of the Blaine sprite from RBY, whilst the challenger has the Youngster sprite from RBY in the same place.

Well, in today's world things are cool and just and Concept just got a gym. Similarily to other gyms, or at least one or two, I'm reffing the original match of it or something. Either way we have a fight between two current gym leaders, one who's a bit higher in trainer level, but the other also has more experience. Concept, who's finally gotten over the hump by defeating worthy watery foes, and such, he's finally got the water gym. At any rate this place seems cool, so lol.

good luck, and may you both have a good battle.

Concept, if you would please?

Level 5:

Christiaan the Politoed (Male)
Politoed: (Water) While not as good a swimmer as a Poliwrath, a Politoed can jump much farther. Politoed are equally adept on land or in water. A Politoed may croak as a move. This has effects identical to Charm against any Poliwag or Poliwhirl in the area. All of the Poliwag family secretes a sort of slime when out of the water, which makes them more slippery and harder to grab, though Politoed are not as slippery as its tadpole counterparts.
For some reason, everyone seems obsessed with Mexican 'mon.
Mine is Dutch.
Christiaan is the result of a Poliwhirl breeding with a pure-bred Ludicolo. His mother, sadly died during childbirth, and he lived in the Eterna forest, raised by the Ludicolo. As such, his upbringing was not what is typical for a Poliwag. The poor lad suffered terrible headaches from the effects of moss rock, and the training he received didn't exactly seem fitting for a water type.
Special Training: Frogman (Grass)
Due to his parentage and upbringing with Ludicolo and close to moss rock, Christiaan has a certain grass type affinity. He is considered familiar with grass type attacks (as waters generally are with ice type moves) and has the same amount of grass energy a normal water would have ice energy. He gains the moves Seed Bomb, Energy Ball and Giga Drain. He loses all Ice moves and will not have access to ice punch either when he would gain it upon evolution (ie all his ice moves).

Level 4:

Monarch the Gyarados (Female)
Gyarados: (Water/Flying) Gyarados are terrifying, and for good reason. If a Pokemon would be afraid of Gyarados, then Gyarados’ fear attacks are more effective. Gyarados is equally at home on land or in the water.
Monarch is a mighty and fearsome Gyarados, well known for her destructive tendencies. I bring her out rarely, when I need to go for damage on a grand scale. Notable performances include the crushing of Balmund's Riolu, repeated smooshing of Dream Breakers Seadra, and one memorable battle where she chewed a Poliwag nearly clean in two. However, many times I send her out her foes prefer to flee rather than face her wrath. She's put a lot of effort into counteracting this.

Special Training: Mano a Mano (XX)
Monarch can use mean look.

Old Rosie the Quagsire (Female)
Quagsire: (Water/Ground) Quagsire move at a decent clip on land, and a respectable pace in the water, though they prefer shallow, slow water to deep, fast currents. Wooper and Quagsire are coated with a slimy substance, which makes them harder to grab.
My Quagsire is excessively annoying. I only keep her around because she's useful.
Signature Move: Terra Cannon (Ground)
Seeking a more effective and purer way to harness her ground energy, Old Rosie has perfected Terra Cannon. It is a beam of Ground energy, that can be charged to full charge (fire blast level), mid charge (thunderbolt level), or quick charge (1/2 thunderbolt level).

Wee Terrible Beastie the Tentacruel (Female)
Tentacruel: (Water/Poison) Has over 10 tentacles, so, unlike Tentacool, it can use its tentacles and still be able to move on land, provided at least half of its tentacles are free. They are still far better swimmers, however.
Ur is a Tentacruel specially bred with Portuguese Man-O-Wars to be especially vicious and deadly in water based combat. Her previous owner intended to use her as one of four "fiends" a la the original final fantasy. He was a bit nuts.
Special Training: Portuguese Man-O-War (Poison)
Ur's poison is special, and although not any more potent as a poison causes a burning sensation in the affected area. As a result, her Poison Jab and Poison Sting attacks cause a lot of pain on the area of contact, which is very strong when the attack first hits but rapidly tails off. The pain can distract a Pokemon when they're hit by one of these attacks, and can make the area more sensitive to future hits (actual damage done is unaffected, it's just painful, and breaks concentration). Her Poison Sting and Poison Jab attacks take 1.25x energy, but do no extra damage. Flinch chance is the same as air cutter for the initial attack. Future hits on the same area have a much lower flinch chance as the user gets used to it.

Gemini the Starmie (Genderless)
Starmie: (Water/Psychic) Starmie and Staryu are, technically, blind. However, they use their senses, along with an excellent sense of touch, to detect opponents. Starmie and Staryu are capable of limited flight by using psychic energy. A Starmie or Staryu’s core is its most vulnerable point.
Bio: Gemini has always believed she belonged with the stars. She has a major god complex, believing she needs to save everyone. One thing she was always jealous of though was flying types sheer manoeuvrability, which far exceeded her species characteristic bestowed limited psychic flight. She worked at it hard, and eventually improved, although she never did reach the heights of a bird pokemon.
Special Training: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (Psychic)
Gemini's extensive training has increased the power of her psychic flight. In addition to her original species characteristic bestowed flight powers, this sig gives her the flight capabilities of a Magnemite, with similar limitations on flight ceiling and speed. Gemini enters battle with star power active. However, now she's evolved into a true psychic type, she's become more energy efficient with the move, and expends a mild amount of energy each round to keep it so (half that if she's underwater due to her natural ability to move underwater). In addition, physical movements and attacks cost slightly more energy when star power is active in the same way they do when agility is active. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. can be deactivated at the cost of a move, and reactivated at the cost of a thunderbolts worth of psychic energy. However, she cannot reactivate it for two rounds after it's been deactivated.

Odyssey the Lapras (Female)
Lapras: (Water/Ice) Lapras is slow and ungainly on land, but is incredibly fast and agile in water, particularly on top. As a carrier Pokemon, Lapras can carry up to 1.5 times its weight and not have its speed affected. Lapras’ shell is hard, and any attacks there are reduced to 75% damage.
Odyssey is the newest member of my squad, a loveable water type. She was mildy annoyed that she's confined to the waves, and had decided to take it out on less aquatic familiar pokemon.

Signature Move: Surf Power (Water)
Functioning much like earth power, except in water, Odyssey pumps water energy into the water causing it to shift and strike the opponent. Energy and damage are the same as earth power, except water typed.

Good luck Stu.

Yanmega

Good luck 'Cept : D

Thank you for reffing FW~

I have very little in the way of Pokémon adequate for this arena, therefore this is going to be amazing. 'Cept, I'm totally going to be your best opponent ever.

And I can't be bothered to change the Levels so they are all 4/5 accordingly~

Miss Twinkle: Female Piplup – Level Three
Bio: Miss Twinkle always wanted to be a dancer ever since Stu met her. She would always dance and use attacks like Bubble to make it look pretty, Stu knew that she would be great in any Contest that she put her mind to it. She was named by ABL after Stu wanted some suggestions, as soon as he heard ‘Miss Twinkle’ he knew this name would stick with her forever. She loves to show off and brag about her dancing skills and can often let her confidence run away with her and find herself in difficult situations because of it, but she means well really. After seeing Mr. Cuddles and Miss Kissie Kiss develop their own hugs and kisses, respectively, she decided to choreograph her own special dance routine called the ‘Twinkle Dance’. While practising her own dance she became surrounded by a group of five Spinda, Twinkle bragged about her amazing dance skills and how the Spinda’s signature Teeter Dance will be no match for her Twinkle Dance once she’s finished. The five Spinda soon became angry at Twinkle’s bragging and they all began to dance their Teeter Dance in perfect time and it was actually amazing. Upon finishing they challenged Twinkle to top their dance with her dance, which was unfinished, at this point Stu arrived and saw what was going on as Twinkle began to dance. As Twinkle was dancing due to her fierce determination to beat the Spinda she began to glow a magnificent blue colour. Stu then commanded Miss Kalida to sprinkle some silver wind onto Miss Twinkle and Aipom Pom to create some swift stars around her causing her performance to look amazing. Upon finishing her dance the Spinda were blown away by her amazing performance and agreed that Twinkle was an amazing dancer. Twinkle then turned around and noticed Stu and thanked her trainer for all of his help, from then onwards Stu decided to help Twinkle master her Twinkle Dance.
Special Technique – Twinkle Dance (Water): Twinkle glows a bright blue colour and spins around in a Swords Dance-esque style. This dance is quite quick and raises her Attack and Special Attack by the same amount as a Calm Mind, but it also decreases her defence by the same amount making her more vulnerable and susceptible to physical and special attacks. Energy is also equal to that of a Calm Mind. Twinkle believes this dance to be extremely special so she'll only dance it twice per battle.

Miss Vegetareon: Female Leafeon – Level Three
Bio: Miss Vegetareon, like Miss Twinkle, was named by ABL. She and Stu met during the first Pokébowl tournament in 2008 where they lost their match to Dream Breaker, but she fought so hard Stu decided he would send an application to the Bowl Tournament Hosts to keep her. Even though he lost this Bowl match he ended up coming in fourth overall due to a lucky loser programme. She is a very kind spirited, generous and friendly Pokémon and she loves sunlight and nature, however she strongly hates cruelty to Pokémon and the use of Pokémon for evil. She doesn’t really like battling that much, though she will fight when necessary or in order to defend herself. Stu maintains that Miss Vegetareon represents his (at the time) new found vegetarianism, as he gave up eating meat, fish and all things animal in June 2008 (still going strong, just sayin’). Miss Vegetareon has spent so much time in nature she seems to know all about remedies and healing techniques, so she has managed to develop overtime a sort of immunity to status effects. But since she is so generous and kind she cannot help but share this immunity with other Pokémon too.
(Note: Her signature move is allowed to be more powerful due to a prize I received in coming fourth in the 2008 Pokébowl which I gave to her~)
Special Resistance – Flower Of Life (Grass): While Miss Vegetareon is in battle she and any other Pokémon currently in battle are immune to physical status effects (Paralysis, Freezing, Burning, Sleeping (except if the opponent puts themselves to sleep, for example Rest) and Poisoning). Also when Miss Vegetareon is sent out into battle any Pokémon that currently has any physical status effects are instantly cured. However while she is in battle Pokémon (including herself) are still affected by mental status effects such as Confusion, Attraction and any other effects in that vein.

Miss Kissie Kiss: Female Jynx – Level Three
Bio: Ever since she met Mr. Cuddles, Kissie Kiss has tried to kiss as much as she can just like Mr. Cuddles hugs as much as he can. She is sassy and independent, which is something she has carried over from her Smoochum days. However, after watching Enchanted her quest to kiss became something much more serious and now is always going on speed dates and trying to meet men so she can find her ‘True Love’s Kiss’.
Stu: True love’s kiss?
Giselle: It’s the most powerful thing in the world!
Thanks Giselle~
Special Technique – True Love’s Kiss (Psychic): Miss Kissie Kiss kisses the opponent in an attempt to make them fall in love with her, but due to the kiss being passionate and seductive it has a 10% higher chance at success rate than an Attract would at that point in time. Other than the 10% higher success rate at any given point, the rules surrounding True Love’s Kiss are identical to that of Attract, except to initiate the attack Kissie Kiss’ lips have to touch the opposing Pokémon (rather than Attract which is based off the Pokémon attempting to look seductive) and that the move is considered Psychic typed. Miss Kissie Kiss can no longer use the regular kind of Attract or the move Captivate however.

Miss Creepy Crawly: Female Galvantula – Level Three
Bio: Miss Creepy Crawly was captured by Stu on an expedition of Unova looking for new Bug-Typed Pokémon for his Gym Squad, he was simply amazed by the idea of a Bug and Electric Typed Pokémon and he knew he had to capture one. She loves playing up to the creepy stereotypes of spiders and such, so therefore Stu named her Miss Creepy Crawly. She likes to use her scary antics to try and help her in battle, causing Stu to try and invent a fear inspiring move for her.
Special Defence – Arachnophobia (Bug): As she loves being scary and inspiring fear into Pokémon if ordered to use ‘Arachnophobia’ Miss Creepy Crawly attempts to scare the opposing Pokémon from using their currently ordered attack by being as spider-like as possible. The base success rate for the opponent being too scared to attack Miss Creepy Crawly is 80%, but then after each use (successful or otherwise) the chance of it being successful decreases by 20%. The fear only lasts the length equal to one attack. If the opposing Pokémon is deemed (through ref’s discretion) to be a Pokémon that wouldn’t be reasonably scared by Miss Creepy Crawly (if they’re considered to be way more powerful or are massively larger for example) the base success rate for this attack becomes 40% instead of 80%. Energy for this attack is equal to that of a Scary Face.

Little Miss Static: Female Ampharos – Level Three
Bio: Before Little Miss Static Stu had never owned an Electric-Typed Pokémon so as a Mareep she definitely gave him a run for his money, she’d always be accidently shocking him or her team mates and releasing electricity at inappropriate times. She is cheery, optimistic and a bit like a ray of sunshine on Stu’s team, a smile never leaves her face and it is impossible for her to be unhappy. During a thunder storm Little Miss Static ran away from Stu and got struck by lightning. The electricity began to pulse through her body, forcing Little Miss Static to figure out how to let the electricity escape her body appropriately and to take electricity into her body on will. After this event Stu managed to get Little Miss Static to control her electrical prowess, except when she becomes too excited, angry or is in a battle she always seems to give off extra bits of electricity.
Special Training – Sparks Fly (Electric): Due to her letting off extra bits of electricity during attacks and the extra sparks flying, when Little Miss Static uses an electric attack that has a chance of paralysing the move now has an extra boosted 5% chance of paralysing.

YANNMMAAM!!!!: Male Yanmega – Level Four
Bio: YANNMMAAM!!!! is a special Yanmega and a previously popular topic of discussion between Stu and Gary, involving a shipping with 'Generic Sunkern', but due to the eye sore that is official his name Stu tends to just refer to him as ‘Yanmega’. Personality wise he is shy and doesn’t speak to people much when he first meets them, however within the team he is quite outgoing as now he feels comfortable enough around the other team members. Stu first met Yanmega as a Yanma in Blackthorn City of all places, under the control of a young trainer who was battling and then lost to Clair the Gym Leader and her Dragonair. The trainer believed that Yanma was a Dragon Type, due to it being a dragon fly, and continuously ordered him to use Dragon Typed attacks to defeat her. After losing the trainer angrily released Yanma, declaring the poor Bug Type as the worst Dragon Type ever, even after Clair corrected him and told him that Yanma was actually a Bug Type he still released Yanma and angrily left. Stu decided to intervene and offered to take the poor Yanma off Clair’s hands, saying that he loved Bug Types and promised to take really good care of him. Yanma, at first, found it difficult to respond to Stu’s orders of Bug and Flying typed attacks as he was so used to hearing about Dragon Typed moves, so Stu decided to teach him a Dragon Typed attack after he had been reacquainted with his Bug Typed heritage. Before long Yanmega was an amazing battler and Stu decided to teach him Dragonbreath as it is the signature attack of Clair, the Blackthorn City Gym Leader where Stu first met Yanmega.
Special Training – Spirit Of The Dragonfly (Dragon): Yanmega can now use Dragonbreath.

Oh and I'm bringing in my Badge for use on my Pokémon~

Struggle Badge
Global Badge
This is the badge of the Combeenation Gym and the symbol of having beaten its Gym Leader, Stu. The Struggle Badge has a spider in a web to represent triumphing over Bug Typed Pokémon in their own natural habitat but also to represent one of the areas within the Gym itself. The name is derived from the fact people often consider it a struggle to fight with an entire team of Bug Pokémon. Its effect provides the trainer with a boost in battles to represent that most Bug Typed Pokémon are often considered weak.
Badge Effect: Soldier On
If the holders Pokémon raise their stats during the battle, the increase becomes slightly more powerful.

My first Pokémon shall be Miss Twinkle, lololol~

Round

And the inagural round of the Cascadium occurs, as a Piplup, Miss Twinkle, and Gemini the Starmie are summoned. Both are ready to go. Miss Twinkle glows with an Aura, the Bide prepared as a Psychic slams into her. However, the energy does not fade, and it takes the Secret Power to finally set off a Bide Beam for massive damage

Results:

Miss Twinkle's taken a Major amount of damage, out of her first quarter of health, energy use was massive however, but she's fine.

Gemini took extreme damage, still above half however, energy use was pretty high, its got a solid lead there.

Agility to dodge the beam. Then given you're a blind psychic, lol at his attempt to obscure your "vision" and let the mist hide your charging of thunder from him.

Josh tried a double team against said Starmie one time. I do things like this quite frequently too.

Miss Twinkle tries her best, and fires a powerful Signal Beam towards Gemini. However, the Starmie easily dodges with Agility. Miss Twinkle then forms a deep Mist everywhere, making it hard to see. The problem is that Gemini isn't particuarly affected and drops a Thunder on Miss Twinkle for mass damage. No Paralysis occurs, but at the same point, the Piplup looks rather cooked as the round ends.

Results:

Gemini took no damage, energy use was pretty major though, near the end of its first third of energy, electric fuels a T-wave/half assed Thunderbolt.

Miss Twinkle took massive damage, well below half, nearing her final quarter, energy use was heavy, but she now has the lead, Bug's at 2/3rds, Ice is well, it doesn't have any problems there at the moment.

Deactivate your sig, letting gravity carry you a few metres below the waterline. Confuse ray if she manages to find you through the mist.

Let's correct an earlier mistake Miss Twinkle and use Defog to get rid of that nasty Mist.

Then show Gemini the sheer power of your Drill Peck, try and aim for the core!

So things continue, as Miss Twinkle uses the powers of Defog, blowing the mist away rather easily as Gemini falls into the water, killing its sig ability to fly. Needless to say, Miss Twinkle finds Gemini rather quickly and tries a Drill Peck, but a bright Flahsing light, er the Confuse Ray sends her into a daze, and while the move still hits, it's not well aimed, and doesn't hit for the full damage.

Results:

Gemini took Solid damage, energy use was also Solid, Ghost energy's fine.

Miss Twinkle took no damage, kinda confused badly now, energy use was major, but she's fine.

Let gravity carry you further down and away from her - when she recovers his wits enough to use the power, do an upwards dive to dodge and strike. Psychic her away as she facades.

Sinking shouldn't be a move I don't think as it's what gravity would do to Starmie anyway if she didn't deliberately float a bit. If it is a move lemme know because I'm not using my three mover.

Starmie falls underwater, as Miss Twinkle tries to get her wits together. this eventually happens, and Miss Twinkle launches a Secret Power. However, Starmie Dives underneath the energy, and slams into Miss Twinkle for a strong blow. However, Miss Twinkle gets a bit angry, and starts a Facade, and gets a few slaps and pecks in before she's sent away by a Psychic.

Results:

Miss Twinkle took some heavy damage, and is into her final quarter, not quite dead, or at critical, but close to both, energy use was relatively heavy, but that's not a concern.

Gemini took some mild damage, enough to drop it below half, but it's fine. energy use was heavy though, it may want a break, nearing half though

lazy edits bcos other real life stuff is lazy

Miss Twinkle- in critical health, barely above half, Bug's at 2/3rds, Ice is near perfect.

Gemini- slightly below half energywise, health in same area, barely below half, ghost is at 2/3rds I guess, Electric near gone, ect.

I still massively disagree with his energy being above half (so less than three HB's used), given that Starmie is below half health (so more than two HB's taken) and Piplup's used secret power, signal beam, mist and defog for no damage plus the resisted part of the bide beam makes it energy inefficient.

Tri attack, psyshock.

ROund

Things are iffy, but at any rate, the energy initiative allows for a Tri Attack to be formed and fired as Supersonic rings through. One battler's kinda confused, the other's floating in the water.

Miss Twinkle is KO'ed, Stu, next poke + attacks.

Gemini took no damage, but is slightly confused. energy use was heavy, but it's fine, all energies took hits, electric's near gone 100%
