Arcanine UPN PASBL: Concept vs Balmund

A row of trumpeters play in perfect sync as a man strolls into the arena. He smiles, setting up his camera in front of the scene, and getting out a microphone. “Goooood evening and welcome to the Pummelo Stadium. I'm Handymankg2, representative of the Pokemon Battle Network, and I'm here to return to the world of reffing with style! The statistics for today's Anime Style Battling League conflict are as follows;”

Pummelo Stadium Arena #1 - Basically a rock arena with a large pool in the middle.
“And a rather nice stadium it is. And now, I'll hand over to Concept to start us off. A squad from you please, if you will.”

Dude this will be cool.

Level 4:

Nehima the Alakazam (Female)
Alakazam: (Psychic) An Alakazam has one of the most acute minds amongst Pokemon, with the exception of some legendaries. Thus, any mentally effecting attack or hallucination-inducing move will be less effective (and less likely to succeed) against one. Psychics are considered to automatically be familiar with psychic abilities. Thus, they can use Psychic to move and toss Pokemon. If facing a non-bug, non-dark opponent, psychics can sense their opponent somewhat, making accuracy reducing attacks less effective.
Nehima finally seems to have grown out of her "let's sleep all the time" phase, several months after evolving from Abra. What can I say, I guess she's just a little slow. Since she's been alert more, she's learned how to tap into the Abra-like state at will, and use it to her advantage.
No sig.

Level 3:

Sergeant Pepper the Haunter (Male)
Haunter: (Ghost/Poison) See ghost Pokemon rules, all ghosts fight more enthusiastically at night, though light does not hinder their ability to battle. Haunter’s Lick attack has a 50% chance to paralyze, instead of the usual 30%. Haunter can see in the dark.
No sig.

Ishmael the Clefable (Male)
Clefable: (Normal) Clefable are a bit reclusive, and are naturally shy, so they are not comfortable around large amounts of people, unless their bio states otherwise. Thus, stadiums or grandstands with onlookers make them nervous and reduce their accuracy slightly. Clefairy and Clefable can jump high and far, and can use their wings to fly (not fast or well, but they can). The Clefairy family cannot see in total darkness, but they can see better than most in low light.

No sig.

Echo Falls the Milotic (Female)
Milotic: (Water) Milotic's Attract and similar attacks are much more effective then normal. As an attack once per battle, it can calm down an opponent with a calming aura. Doing so can get rid of any mental boosting moves the opponent might have.

No sig.

Jerry the Raichu (Male)

Raichu: (Electric) Raichu is the fastest of the Pikachu family, if not the most agile. Its tail acts as a ground for its electric attacks. If its tail is not touching the ground when it uses an electric attack, it will take slight recoil damage. Raichu have sensitive hearing, at the expense of increased vulnerability to sound attacks.
Jerry is a Pikachu raised by a group of Marill as one of their own. He's mildly insane. This is why I like him.
Signature Move: Grace of Thunder (Water)
Jerry got good at manipulating his limited water energy due to living with Marill. This move is an upgrade to rain dance, and replaces it. He sends a beam of water energy akin to the small beam in sunny day, which may be directed either at the sky causing a rain dance effect or at his opponent, causing no damage but bursting into water and making them wet as if they'd been dunked in water. Energy cost is 1.5x Rain Dance, usable twice per match. This has the effect of making electric attacks effect ground types normally unless they manage to dry themselves off, as stated in the ground type characteristics.

Cassius the Hitmonchan (Male)
Hitmonchan: (Fighting) Hitmonchan practice extensively in the way of the fist. Their punch attacks do 125% damage, but their kick attacks deal only 75% damage.
Cassius is a well versed and well disciplined fighter, although a little fond of the smack talk. Unlike some fighters, he prefers to use speed and technique to win his fights, rather than brute force - that doesn't mean he doesn't pack a punch though.
Special Training: One-two Punch (Fighting)
When ordered to do two reasonably speedy punching attacks in a row, Cassius can be ordered to deliver the old one-two. He delivers the second punch with his other hand, making it somewhat weaker than the normal version of that punch but much faster. This means that if the first punch connected, the second is much more likely to connect and harder to dodge, seeing as it comes when the user is still recovering right after the first punch. If the first punch misses, the second will still be weaker and quicker, but the chance to hit is only slightly above normal as the opponent isn't recovering from the first hit. Attacks that can be sped up by one-two punch are; brick break, rock smash, fire punch, ice punch, thunderpunch, mega punch and drain punch. Any other punches, such as focus punch, sky uppercut and dynamic punch, are too slow to be boosted in this way, although may be used as the first punch in the combo but never sped up as the second punch. The combination reduces in its effect with each use, as the opponent gets used to the move. As a clarification, this effect only applies when the one-two punch is explicitly used; otherwise it is not taken into account, even if two punches are ordered.

GOGO make with the squad.

I wonder whom of these you didn't see coming

Albafica, Level 3 Female Milotic
Albafica had a rather pitiful life while a Feebas. Her appearance so foul, that she eventually ended up isolated from her very own group. Nonetheless, she found new hope under the caring arms of her trainer and eventually grew into a magnificent Milotic whose beauty would leave everyone staring in pure awe. Her hair now silvery white, her scales now a bright gold, yet shining with the various colors of the rainbow, and her body now covered in a gorgeous light mist of ice crystals. Truly, good things happen to those who endure hardships.
Special Mutation: Goddess of the Lake
Albafica's beauty is something that could be even considered surreal, as such, the effectiveness of Captivate and Attract are increased by 50%, regardless of gender and her appearance evokes a soothing sensation on those who lay eyes on her, reducing the chances of the opponent becoming enraged or berserk by 30%, and severely reducing the effectiveness of rage-based attacks by 40%. Albafica herself, however, is unable to use the moves Frustration and Swagger.

Orchrist, Level 2 Female Seviper
Orchrist is a rather misunderstood character. All she really wants is mere attention, but she somehow always draws in the wrong kind, which is probably due to her arrogant and selfish personality. This generally causes her comrades to develop an inmediate rejective posture, which in turn further fuels her negative attittude. She does enjoy some company of in the form of Hueco however, who sides by her for all the wrong reasons, and harbors a secret crush for Andúril, who's too into fighting to really care. On the flip side, Orchrist harbors deep hate and resentment for Albafica, who now seems to be the entire squad's center of attention.
Special Attack: Death Fang (Poison)
Orchrist bites onto the opponent, releasing a potent mix of hemotoxins and neurotoxins, developed as a result of her rival Zangoose's increasing poison resistance. The attack deals as much damage as a Poison Fang while requiring 3x as much energy to use, and has a 50% of causing severe intoxication and/or fully paralyzing the foe. The move itself is ineffective against inorganic or plated pokemon. Reserves for this concoction are very limited and, as such, Death Fang can only be used once per battle.

Medeus, Level 2 Male Houndour
Special Technique: Shadowstep (Dark)
A move developed by Medeus to flawlessly take down any prey by surprise. Medeus shrouds himself in a dark veil before vanishing out of sight in a puff of black smoke, taking no more than a second to do so. A second or two later, Medeus reappears in a similar fashion at the location directed by his trainer. This move is energy intensive, requiring as much energy as a Teleport, and has all the same restrictions to use. Can be used up to three times per match, and never more than once per round.

Hueco, Level 2 Male Duskull
Hueco's a bizzare Duskull clad in pure white and sporting an eerie and unusual golden colored iris. He's rather anti-social and generally remains in some sort of emotionless state, as if apparently not having a free will of his own. Hueco seems drawn to emotionally unstable beings, and hovers around Rhay out of sheer habit.
Special Attack: Cero Oscuras (Ghost/Dark)
Hueco fires a pitch black beam of energy dealing heavy damage. Damage is equivalent to that of 1.2x a Hyper Beam while taking as much energy to use, rendering the user exhausted afterwards. Dark energy is mixed in as the attack is charged and fired, making it impossible to interrupt, intercept or redirect with psychic abilities. Cero Oscuras is made up of equal parts ghost and dark energy and can only be used once per battle.

Ippo, Level 2 Male Hitmonchan
Ippo may be smaller than the average of his kind, but he holds a dream of becoming the absolute best boxer on the planet. Naive and a tad shy, but full of determination and love for the sport, Ippo trains extensively everyday and hour to achieve his goal.
Special Attack: Dempsey Roll (Fighting)
Ippo begins circling from side to side in a eight-figure motion before unleashing a tremendous barrage of hooks, smashes and upppercuts, finishing off with a final power straight. Damage is equal to that of a Close Combat plus a Mega Punch and takes as much energy to use. The user is left exhausted afterwards and speed is reduced a bit due to the strain put to Ippo's lower body. Repeated use of the move is dangerous to Ippo's life and, as such, it can only be used once per match.

Greil, Level 2 Male Tauros
Before joining the squad, Greil used to be the leader of his herd. For years he defended his spot title against countless young males, until one day he fell, his experience no longer able make up for his old age. Banished from his group, he roamed the plains in solitude until he was finaly caught by myself. His experience has been a great help in the training of the entire squad. Despite his old age though, fire still burns in his eyes as Greil fully intends to make his scars proud in battle.
Special Training: Seige Weapon - Battering Ram
Through years of experience Greil has mastered the art of ramming attacks. His body fully used to them, he does no longer take any recoil damage from their use and he now has access to the move Head Smash, usable only once per battle. Old age has taken a toll on him though; his body no longer what it was, Greil now expends 10% more energy on all moves.

Hmm....you've served me well before, now go, Hueco, and wreck havoc!

Round One

“Well hello there. Welcome to what is the rejuvenated restart of Handy's reffing service. I'm the man himself, Handymankg2, here to welcome you to today's feature event, the Pokemon battle between two trainers experienced in the world of PASBL. On the one hand, we have the water wannabe. His avatar is Blaine, he's not too lame, it's Concept! On the other hand, we have the guy who managed to keep a match going for a whole year. His avatar is Bowser, he's gonna wow ya, it's Balmund!”

“And since this is indeed a Pokemon Battle, let's see the first combatants for today. Balmund stepps forwards towards the arena, and grips a red and white pokeball in his hand. He flicks it up into the air with style, the ball expanding as it flies As the ball opens, a red jet of light blasts down towards the arena, expanding out into the shape of a Pokemon. As the red light dissipates, it's clear that he's selected a Level 3 Male Duskull by the nickname of Heuco. His evolution is one of my favourite Pokemon, so let's see if this little ghost can live up to the high standard. On the other hand, Concept walks forwards and repeats the process that Balmund went through, except for the crucial last part, as he releases a pink, winged creature known as a Level 3 Male Clefable called Ishmael. With a recent discussion mentioning its overpowering movepool, let's see if the variation of types can win this conflict. Without any further delay, let's head onto the round at hand. Huzzah!”

“Ishmael starts off the round. Glancing at Heuco, he quickly begins to charge up energy in front of him, and the slight priority allows at least a slight charge before his ghostly opposition has a chance to intervene. The ghost manages to catch eyesight with Ishmael, and though anti-social, Heuco decides to use this particular social event to his advantage, as Ishmael completely loses his mobility. This causes him to loose control of his hyper beam, which is launched forwards through the air. The attack manages a hit, causing Heuco some surprising damage. Not as full as it could have been, however, which is fortunate. Due to the leer holding Ishmael in place for a few seconds, Heuco manages to start charging confuse ray.”

“It's launched just before Sweet Kiss is launched. Ishmael is completely befuddled, but the sweet kiss manages to hit (though one of the sweet kiss projectiles reared off target), and Heuco is confused also, though not as heavily as Ishmael is. And with both Pokemon not understanding quite what's going on in the battlefield, the round comes to a fairly sudden close, with no more attacks from either party coming our way.”

“So, let's head on to the statistics for the first round of this fight.”

“Ishmael used some moderate energy. Health took no damage to start off.”

“Heuco, however, took a moderate hit. Energy was less than his opponent's.”

“And both Pokemon currently have varying levels of confusion, as specified above. So, since the first round is completed, orders from Balmund would be perfect.”

Round Two

“Having finished a rather interesting piece of history homework involving Joseph Stalin, Harry Potter and a Dragon, I believe it's around the time of day when a Reffing is necessary. My timetable tomorrow isn't the greatest in regards to the various lessons, so I may seem a bit stressful today. Apologies if that is the case; 'tis not intentional. Now, without further delay, let's head on to the round at hand. Huzzah!”

“The round starts off rather simply. Heuco, being confused as he is, decides to remove the confusion. The way he does this is through a simple technique known as calming your mind. He waits for a few seconds, as all confusion is removed, and a gain on special attack strength is emphasised. His special attack boosted, he not surprisingly opts to go for a special attack. Charging up ice energy, he prepares to launch it forwards. Ishmael doesn't yet feel as if it can perform a fire blast attack with any success, so an Ice Beam heads towards him through the air rather quickly. It collides into the Clefable, and...”

“Wow. I wasn't expecting that. Ishmael is now completely concealed in a block of ice. How fun the attack descriptions are. Ishmael, luckily, is now free off confusion, and fully conscious off his condition. So he charges up fire energy to the best of his ability, and lets it rip. Due to his unfortunate condition, some of the heat is absorbed into melting the ice around him, not to mention the whole frozen situation meant the attack was more difficult to complete. As such, quite a weakened fire blast heads forwards, and collides into Heuco for a hit. And with that, the round comes to a close.”

“And that's it for now, a short round, but fine. Let's head over to the statistics.”

“Ishmael used some great energy, towards three quarters, fairly close. A one rounder is always nice, though. Health took a boosted ice beam, towards three quarters.”

“Heuco took a weakened fire blast, health also heading down towards three quarters, closer than Ishmael. Energy is around the same as Ishamael's.”

“Over to orders from Concept. Thanks.”

I was under the impression that calm mind didn't give a boost when it was used to clear confusion, or at least not as much of one. I might be mistaken though.

Also, goddamn 10% freeze chance. So glad I went with fire blast rather than thunder now.

Round 3: The replacement ref service

Pretty sure I’m still ok to ref this. Ok, after reading this through, I have a slight problem in that Calm Mind, under a fairly recently revised reffing method of mine, doesn’t give any kind of boost when it clears confusion. If you want re-orders, just yell, but it shouldn’t change much, so I’ll at least get a reffing done now since I have nothing to do on a weekday afternoon. Or any afternoon really.

Ishmael starts off the round by charging up a fair amount of Normal type energy, and firing a very familiar orange beam. However, Hueco isn’t exactly being idle, and darts back and forth at a high speed, becoming nothing more than a blur. And about the same time as Ishmael’s MC Hyper Beam is ready, the reasonably fast and reasonably healthy Hueco manages to get 2 Double Team clones in place. I do so dislike this move… now to RNG for a hit. And… the HB rather predictably takes out one of the clones, leaving the other 2 Duskull untouched.
Ishmael then quickly fires several tendrils of electricity, sending them towards another randomly chosen target at quite some pace. Hueco readies himself, preparing to fire a beam of his own Secret Power. Only not so secret as everyone and their mother knows it. He fires his attack shortly after, and I assume the illusion fires one too or something. Only one is real. Damned nonsensical DT not being clearer on how it works. Anyway, Ishmael’s Thunder Wave reaches its target, and passes straight through it. Hueco’s Secret Power therefore lands a clean hit, but doesn’t seem to have dealt any status.

Summary

No damage for Hueco. Energy use was good, but not massive. Still below 3/4 now though.

Ishmael is now closing in on 3/4 healthwise. Energy use was about the same as Hueco's, and total energy is also below 3/4.

Edit note: Re-reffed. Yes, I re-rolled and you still missed both shots, Concept.

We base DT numbers on base stats, and Duskull is really really slow. Just saying I don't see it making a total of four (including the original).

We do? I always used logic combined with base stats. For example, Golem should not be outrunning a Duskull. Ever. Still, I didn't think Duskull was that slow. Will re-ref.

Yeah, I must have read the wrong stat or something. 25 is extremely slow. So you get this. Not that it changes much at all. All that changes is that Hueco has no more clones.

Round 4: Bad jokes, rather shit style... Back to normal then.

Hueco starts the round off by… apparently getting distracted. He points… well, gestures in a seemingly random direction, and Ishmael looks in the same direction. Guess you could say he’s “away with the fairies”.[/verypoorjoke] *shot* Anyway, Ishmael is left completely open, and Hueco then strikes him with a reasonably strong Faint Attack. Ishmael waits. Apparently he hasn’t seen his cue yet. So Hueco pulls another close-range move. This time, however, he just lowers his head to perform a rather simple Headbutt. This is met with a Headbutt of Ishmael’s. It would be Skull Bash, but the lack of distance between them means he doesn’t have time to create the recoil-shield thing. Anyway, Ishmael then starts to Sing sweetly, which quickly gets Hueco tired, and he falls asleep after a few seconds. Apparently Ghosts need sleep too. Just like paralysis affects them. Who’d have thought?

Summary

Hueco’s below ¾ health now, but he’s still got a lead there. Energy has dropped further below ¾, and he’s now below Ishmael there. Still, it’s health that matters more, I guess. Dark energy remains. Also he’s sleeping.

Ishmael is far below ¾ now, in terms of health. His energy is above Hueco’s.

Round 5: Battle of the sins

I assume you both mean FCSB. Wasn’t stated. It actually doesn't matter a great deal.

Ishmael “tootles off” behind Hueco, which I’m assuming means he just walks without wasting a 3-mover, then starts charging an EFFSEE ESSBEE, which is just dull. Meanwhile, Hueco sleeps. He then Snores very loudly, creating an actual shockwave, which strikes Ishmael to deal low damage. However, more importantly, it disrupts him, meaning he fires early out of shock. Still, it was fairly strong. It also wakes Hueco up.
Ishmael then Wishes upon a star, causing a wooden puppet somewhere to come to life and become the star of a Disney film. Or maybe just gives him the defence and energy boosts. Hueco starts charging his own Shadow Ball in response. The Shadow Ball is fired early due to the time limit I place on rounds which only comes into effect after one ‘mon finishes its orders. So he gets a pretty strong, yet not full strength, SB. And it hits Ishmael. Also damage.

Summary

Hueco’s near his final quarter of health already. Energy use was fairly high, including the sleep recovery, so he’s nearing the midpoint there too.

Ishmael is below the midpoint, but now doing much better than Hueco. Energy is about even with Hueco’s now.

Don't give up! Give him a double dose of Headbuttage.
