UPN PASBL: Shadowshocker vs. James2791

Quote:
Shadowshocker (acceptor) versus James 2791 (challenger)
2 vs 2 Doubles
72 Hour DQ
Slapstick
Equiall 4
Return = KO
Ref to choose arena
Ladies, gentlemen, those of you without gender, welcome to this battle. We're here, live at the...

... Wait a minute, where are we? "Ref to choose arena"? Oh, sweet. Let's see, arena, arena... Ah, I've got it!

Quote:
Sand (Outdoor): This arena has a ground completely composed of soft sand, down to a hard rock bed far far beneath the surface.
The Sand Arena! Yes, I know, it's kinda boring. I debated on the Cyberspace Arena or the Disco Hall for a while, but decided to keep things simple, since a Double Battle can be difficult enough to ref on its own.

So, on one side, we have Poison type gym leader and one of the top ranks member of the PASBL, a trainer who's beaten me more times than I've beaten him, Shadowshocker! And on the other side, a trainer who I'm afraid I cannot spiel about because I haven't seen him in actions, James2791!

Both trainers will be using two Pokemon in this battle, both levelled up in accordance to Equiall 4 thanks to generosity on SS's part. Slapstick and a 72 HR DQ are in effect.

Now, both trainers will PM me their 'Mon and attacks for the opening round. Then I believe the challenge, James2791, will be the first to order after the blind round.

Good luck to the both of you. PM away!

Wildmutt: Level 4 Male Houndoom
*random roaring noises*
In order to bring out more of the feral elements in his evolutionary line, Wildmutt was one of several Houndour bred in a competitive breeding centre for such a purpose. However, while the Wildmutt's claws were found to have grown out almost on par with that of a Persian's, he was found to be much more brutal even for Houndour standards. After he attacked several of the breeding centre's Pokemon grievously he was released into the wilderness where Sector Shadow eventually found him.
Signature Move: Claws Attack
Due to breeding, Wildmutt has claws that have grown out more than a normal Houndour's, allowing him to use Slash and Shadow Claw, in exchange for Return, Howl, Beat Up and Counter. The claws also allow him to grip onto surfaces better, to the extent of dashing up steep surfaces in short bursts of a few seconds but not hanging on indefinitely.

XLR8: Level 4 Male Gallade
"Here I am! No, here I am! No, over here!"
As a Ralts destined for Galladehood XRL8 was always focusing on his physical statistics, but in particular after noting that Gallade's GenIV disappointment largely stemmed from a less-than-useful Speed stat he began obsessing over Speed, despite the factor usually not having too much bearing in animé-style physics. Even this didn't stop him from pushing the frontiers of speed further than most of his evolutionary line were ever known for, and after a training regime spanning months that also involved next to none of his special energy skills, he achieved his goals of blinding speed.
Signature Move: Speed Demon
XLR8 is considered to be familiar with Agility and has learned Extremespeed. In addition, whenever he uses Extremespeed as the first move in combination with another physical move to damage his opponent, he can expend 10% more energy used in the combination to ensure the combination is executed seamlessly and do 10% more base damage. (For example, combining Extremespeed and Psycho Cut, XRL8 can use 10% more than the normal total amount of energy used to do 110% of the damage Extremespeed and Psycho Cut do.) However, due to his lack of attention on his special moves, XRL8 can no longer use Hyper Beam, Grass Knot, Trick Room, Magical Leaf, Icy Wind, Will-o-wisp, Grudge or Imprison. He can also no longer use Psychic in its telekinesis mode to move anything at will.

"XLR8, Wildmutt, battle stations! Swords Dance from XLR8 and a Nasty Plot by Wildmutt. Sunny Day up the place, XLR8, and Wildmutt, roast the foes with Heat Wave!"
Both trainer step out onto the harsh terrain of this sandy arena, Pokeballs at the ready. Four spheres of crimson and white are launched into the air, and the arena is suddenly ablaze with scarlet light, which forms into a quartet of Pokemon.

On Shadowshocker's side, a Houndoom known as Wildmutt appears, flanked by his partner, a Gallade who's name seems to be a strange pun, XLR8. James is represented by a pair of Pokemon levelled up and evolved for the sake of this battle, a Feraligatr unoriginally named Jaws, and an Alakazam known as Vittore. With all the Pokemon present on the field, let's rumble!

Jaws and Vittore take a moment to work out their targets, while XLR8 begins to Dance in homage to Swords, his partner Wildmutt Plotting Nastily beside him. Jaws focuses his attention on Wildmutt, tearing into the ground with his claws which seem kept adept at Digging. Vittore's eyes close, his thoughts and inner Sight cast towards the Future.

XLR8 tosses a beam of red energy into the sky, concentrating his efforts on making the Day Sunny. Wildmutt, however, is caught off-guard as Jaws erupts from the earth below, slamming into the Houndoom for fairly good damage. Wildmutt, regaining his bearings, blasts a Heat Wave from his maw, attempting to strike both opponents with it. However, Jaws' proximity to him means the Water type prevents the attack from reaching Vittore, and the Feraligatr takes good damage from the resisted damage.

Vittore, in the meantime, has conjured up a Psychic wave to toss at XLR8, the Gallade pushed back a few feet and taking good damage as a result. Jaws, in close proximity to Wildmutt, is quick to deliver a crushing Brick Break strike to Wildmutt, who howls as he takes very good damage from the Super Effective strike.

Jaws has taken good damage, used a large amount of energy. He is quite uncomfortable in the hot sun.

Vittore has avoided damage, used very good energy.

XLR8 has taken good damage, used very good energy. He has a Swords Dance boost.

Wildmutt has taken a large amount of damage this round, still a ways above three quarters though. His energy use was very good, and he has a Nasty Plot boost.

Orders from James please.

Good first round guys,
Keep 'em coming - Jaws, Razor Wind some sand around the opponents to disrupt them, and a Water Pulse on Wildmutt for his entertainment.
Vittore, attempt to Disable Wildmutt while Jaws attacks. A Psybeam to XLR8 to conclude.

"Wildmutt, Pursuit on Vittore to avoid the Razor Wind, and possibly prevent Disable from occurring. Meanwhile, XLR8, a Night Slash on Vittore, letting Wildmutt have his way if need be before attacking.

Wildmutt, wait for the weakened Water Pulse to head for you before Pursuiting Vittore in another dodge. XLR8, follow with a crippling X-Scissor to Vittore."

Now I remember why double battles are so tricky to ref...

All four 'Mon leap into action as this round begins, Jaws begins to huff and puff like the Big Bad Wolf, and Vittore's eyes glow as he focues on Wildmutt. The Houndoom, however, has coated himself in a Pursuit aura, and XLR8 has dashed across the arena, a Night Slash tearing across Vittore's face and dealing significant damage, Vittore's concentration shattered. Jaws unleashes his Razor Wind as Wildmutt smacks Vittore in the back, XLR8 takes the brunt of the slicing winds, taking good damage, and Vittore is dealt moderate damage from the rear attack.

His close proximity allows XLR8 to cut ahead of Vittore, his X-Scissor dealing another dose of significant damage to the psychic. Jaws fires off a Water Pulse at Wildmutt as Vittore blasts XLR8 with Psybeam, both 'Mon caught by the respective attacks. XLR8 is dealt moderate damage from the attack, and Wildmutt is dealt fairly good damage from the Water Pulse. The Houndoom, however, looks quite bewildered by his situation, a symptom of confusion perhaps? He doesn't seem to know his own species at the moment, his next Pursuit quite beyond him.

Jaws has avoided damage this round, currently the healthiest of the battlers. His energy use was very good, coming close to three quarters.

Vittore has taken massive damage this round from the combined attacks, dropping him below three quarters (closer to one half than three quarters). His energy use was good though, still a ways from three quarters.

XLR8 took fairly good damage this round, just above three quarters now. His energy use was significant though, dropping him close to three quarters.

Wildmutt took fairly good damage this round, bringing him a little ways off three quarters. His energy use was moderate though, putting him around even with Vittore on that round. He's fairly confused though, and may have difficulty understanding even simple orders next round.

The sun is still shining brightly.

Orders from Shadowshocker please.

XLR8, keep your distance from Wildmutt. A Hidden Power unto Vittore."

Jaws, I guess that Facade is aimed at you, so opt for a direct Hydro Pump on the confunded Wildmutt. That'll knock out the confusion naturally, so before he realizes what just happened, a Body Slam to conclude if you will.*
Vittore, let's go with your own Psychic wave on XLR8. Thunder Wave the Gallade when you're done

Wildmutt takes a few moments to process his orders this round, but is fortunate enough to break through the confusion. His Facade, however, is abruptly cancelled by Jaws, who blasts the fiery hellhound with a Hydro Pump, Wildmutt howling in pain as he's blasted backwards, taking a truckload of damage.

Vittore focuses on XLR8 this round, launching a Psychic wave. The Gallade fires a Hidden Power through it, and the two attacks pass harmlessly by each other, striking their respective foes. Vittore is dealt pretty good damage from the Hidden Power, and Gallade takes good damage from the Psychic wave.

Wildmutt rises shakily to his feet, and his eyes widen at the sight of a massive Feraligatr bearing down on him. He isn't fast enough to dodge, unfortunately, and is Body Slammed by the massive water type, Wildmutt screaming as he is pinned down by Jaws' weight, taking a large amount of damage.

Vittore concentrates, sending tendrils of electrical energy at XLR8. The Gallade, however, is fortunately lucky enough to dance away from the Thunder Wave, and the round ends.

Jaws has avoided damage again, still the healthiest of the four. His energy use was very large though, dropping under three quarters by a large amount, and his breathing is starting to become ragged. He's still on top of Wildmutt.

Vittore took pretty good damage, pushing him closer to half. His energy use was very good, coming closer to three quarters.

XLR8 took good damage this round, pushing him under three quarters. His energy use was pretty good, bringing him near three quarters. The one mover has helped his breathing though. His Swords Dance boost has started to fade, about half strength atm.

Wildmutt is in trouble, his health close to half now. His energy use was negligible this round, but Jaws is still on top of him. He is having difficulty feeling his back legs, and will continue to lose more feeling in the back half of his body the longer Jaws is on top of him. His Nasty Plot boost has started to fade, about half strength atm.

Keep up the tempo Jaws - Bite as hard as you can into one of Wildmutts' legs. Make use of a Swords Dance after that - kick up some surrounding sand to disturb your opponents from attacking.
Vittore - Confusion to XLR8. A simple Hidden Power to the Gallade would also suffice.

"I'm honestly not sure if you're thinking you can bite his leg while crushing them, but in any case, Wildmutt, Dark Pulse the offending bugger in the mouth, or to his face. Whichever works best for you under current conditions. Then, Snatch the Dance, please.

XLR8, take the Confusion. Then punish Vittore with an Extremespeed to dodge and hit, finishing with a bristling X-Scissor."

Jaws and Wildmutt are both a little perplexed as to how to pull off their orders, as Jaws' heads isn't sufficiently close enough to Wildmutt's body to bite down, and Wildmutt isn't able to turn his head at a sufficient angle to fire at his opponent's face. Jaws, compromising, leans towards Wildmutt to deliver a Bite, but Wildmutt fires off his attack, managing to strike Jaws on the side of the face. Most specfically, the attack glances his eye, and the Feraligatr roars, having the unfortunate effect of sliding off the Houndoom.

Wildmutt has a difficult time moving, having severe paralysis in his back legs. However, he doesn't need to move them to cast a Snatch curse upon his opponent. The Feraligatr begins his Dance of Swords, but is disappointed to find he gains no boost.

Meanwhile, Vittore fires off a Confusion at XLR8, who takes it for moderate damage. A Hidden Power follows it, but XLR8 is gone in a burst of Extremespeed, and Vittore is smacked hard, knocked a few paces back. He barely has time to regain his balance when XLR8 makes full use of his signature and combos with an X-Scissor, causing the Alakazam to cry out in agony as he takes significant damage from the combo.

Jaws has taken moderate damage, still a way above three quarters though. His energy use was very good, even with the forced one mover, dropping him closer to half, but his breathing has improved slightly.

Vittore took significant damage this round, plunging him under half by a good ways. His energy use was very good, dropping just under three quarters.

XLR8 took moderate damage this round, pushing him further under three quarters. His energy use was significant, dropping him under three quarters by a good way. His Swords Dance boost is almost gone now.

Wildmutt took a little damage from Jaws' body weight, pretty much at half now. His energy use was very good, and he has a Swords Dance boost (his Nasty Plot is pretty much gone). His back legs are still mostly numb, he'll have difficulty using them the next round or so.

Time to go tactical I guess...

Jaws, launch dual Water Pulses at your opponents, first at XLR8, then at 'mutt.

Vittore, Psychic at the avengeful Houndoom. Continue to devastate with a well aimed FC Shadow Ball at XLR8.

Round 5: Dynamic Entry!

Ugggggh... {rubs head}

Dendrobat: For those wondering, Dave is currently trying to stop a headache from comparing the health and energy levels if he'd been reffing this battle, and from Josh's summary.

It just doesn't make sense!

Sally: Just compromise?

Fine, fine. Anyways, for a brief overview:

A'Tuin: Jaws is just above 3/4 health, with energy between 2/3 and 1/2, Fighting at 3/4. Vittore WOULD be close to KOd if Dave were reffing, but as such is between 1/2 and 1/3 health, and energy is just above 2/3, and Electric is at 3/4. Wildmutt would ALSO be in critical, but is instead just under 1/2 health. Energy is around 2/3, and he has a Nasty Plot that will soon fade, and a Snatched Swords Dance that he shouldn't have, which won't fade soon. XLR8 should be at 1/2, but has been put between 3/4 and 2/3, and Energy is at around 2/3, of which Fire is at 2/3, Dark at 1/2, and Bug empty. He has a Swords Dance boost which will fade soon. And it's sunny. Phew.

Cheers man. Anyways, let's get back to the battle, shall we?

Team Dave arrives at pitchside in medias res, where a large reptile and a psychic moustached... thing are battling on one side, opposing a snarling hellhout and an opposing psychic bladed... thing. Woop, descriptiveness. Anyways, Thinks kick off with a slightly-paralysed Wildmutt launching a Pulse of Dark energy at the Feraligatr. Jaws takes the hit, lobbing a Pulse of his own Water at the Houndoom's teammate. XLR8 has been casting his Sight toward the Future, managing to forsee an attack toward the crocodilian as the watery orb smashes into him. Meanwhile, Vitorre waves an arm, causing an arc of Psychic energy to wash over Wildmutt... and it does nothing, the hellhound's Dark-typing rendering the attack null.

Wildmutt goes for a repeat tactic, another Dark Pulse sailing toward Jaws, crashing into him due to the close proximity. The Feraligatr counters with Water Pulse. Did someone use Encore? No? Ok. Drenched somewhat by the attack, Wildmutt shakes it off, but his eyes look glazed, the attack's secondary effect taking its toll. XLR8 closes his eyes, Wishing upon a star for an aide in battle. This does not come as expected, however, as even though his energy receives a top-up, and his defenses increase. He opens his eyes to find that his Psychic brother has been charging up a Shadow Ball, which Vitorre lets fly. XLR8 attempts to put his speedy nature to work, but still takes the brunt of the blast, dealing a large amount of damage to him. And to top things off, he gets smacked by the Future Sight that Josh seemed to forget. Woops.

A'Tuin: From now on, I'll stick to health. Jaws took good damage, now between 2/3 and 1/2 health. Vitorre escaped damage, still between 1/2 and 1/3. Wildmutt took decent damage, around 1/3 now. XLR8 took massive damage, now just under 1/4 health, top edge of critical.

tl;dr: Jaws > Vitorre > Wildmutt > XLR8

Ra: Energy stats, kree! Jaws used decent energy, just under 1/2 overall. Vitorre used heavy energy, now under 1/2, with Ghost gone. Wildmutt used good energy, also just under 1/2. XLR8 received a slight energy boost, and is still around 2/3.

tl;dr: XLR8 > Jaws = Wildmutt > Vitorre

Myrmeleo: Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Jaws is under the influence of a Snatch. Wildmutt has a fading Nasty Plot and a reasonably-fresh Swords Dance boost, his legs are recovering. XLR8 has a fading Swords Dance, but now has a Wish boost to his defenses. Future Sight in play, it'll come up in a couple rounds. It's sunny.

Dendrobat: Oh boy. Jaws and Wildmutt are about 2 metres/6 feet apart. Across by about 4 metres/13 feet is XLR8, while Vitorre is 3 metres/10 feet across from him, also 4 metres/13 feet from the other two.

Sally: Well, this looks like fun. With the Sector Shadow operatives getting low on health, this looks like trouble. Will the Poison leader be able to turn this grim-looking situation around? Let's watch and wait!

Pelly: Caw! Orders from James!

I guess it's the right time to say this - thanks for taking on the request Dave, with haste

Back to orders...
Jaws, at the moment, we have to stay clear of using status boosting moves. So since your close to 'mutt, produce some Razor Wind to disorientate him (and possibly XLR8.). While he has sand in his eyes, Hydro Pump, and if that's not enough, a simple yet effective Secret Power to the Houndoom too.
Vittore, you're close to XLR8, so use your mastermind skills to direct a Psybeam to the Gallade. Follow that up with some Confusion.*

Confirmed three. Let's do this.

*

"Wildmutt, Dig to avoid Hydro Pump, possibly striking Vittore. Regardless, follow with a Crunch on Vittore with your physical boost.

If you have to take the Razor Wind, do so, XLR8; you've got the Wish boost to hold you together. Light Screen to take both of Vittore's moves. Then, Pain Split on Jaws."

Round 6: Going all-out

Jaws takes a deep breath, possibly to thermoregulate as crocodilians do. But no, instead he seems to be charging up something, before he launches a large Wind from his mouth, pockets of energy withing slicing at Wildmutt like Razors. The attack manages to carry on and strike the Houndoom's compatriot as well, but the Gallade's bolstered defenses give him the ability to take the weakened blast easily. This seems to have knocked the confusion out of the hellhound's head, but as also blown a fair amount of sand into his eyes, and the Fire-type lets out a groan of irritation. As XLR8 shakes himself off, Vittore crosses his spoons, firing a rainbow Beam of Psychic energy. The Fighting-type's eyes flash blue, and he crosses his arms in front of him, causing a protective Screen of Light to appear, which effortlessly gobbles up the weak attack.

Jaws again takes a deep breath. Despite his blindness, Wildmutt is alert, and knows that this sound means trouble. He furiously paws at the sand, managing to Dig in just as the Feraligatr's Hydro Pump is expelled. Thanks to his weakened hindlegs, the Dark-type's back end is clipped as he disappears beneath the substrate, taking strong damage, but not enough to end him. Meanwhile, the Alakazam fires a faint blue Confusion at his Psychic counterpart, but the attack is once more negated by the Light Screen, which seems to fracture slightly, but is still mostly intact. Before he realises what's going on, however, James' Psychic stumbles backward, Wildmutt bursting from the ground a couple feet in front of him, but his lack of sight has prevented him from landing a full blow upon the Alakazam.

Using his trainer's one Three-mover, Jaws then glows pink, firing a beam of Secret Power at his target for this battle. Wildmutt also follows orders, shaking the sand out of his eyes to Crunch down on Vitorre's physically frail arm, injecting Dark energy into the mastermind, while the beam clips his rear. The Houndoom releases his prey, coughing, apparantly poisoned from the attack. Jaws pants from his exertions this round, before he is gripped by a grey aura. Glancing over, he sees the unusually-inactive XLR8 covered in the same aura, the Gallade managing to equal the health levels of the two Pokémon, managing to Split their Pain. Uninterrupted, the Gallade completes the exchange, restoring his health by a good way, but Jaws looks decidedly worse off, as a light wind blows across the sandy plains, signalling that something may be on the way...

A'Tuin: Jaws had a large amount of health stolen, and is now below 1/2, actually closer to 1/3. Vitorre took strong damage, and is around the 1/4-empty midpoint, well into critical health. Wildmutt took heavy damage, and is into critical now, honestly being held up by a feather. If an attack doesn't end him this round, that Poison will. XLR8 took no damage, and recovered a good amount of health, the same as Jaws due to the methods.

tl;dr: Jaws = XLR8 > Vitorre > Wildmutt

Ra: Jaws used massive energy, nearing 1/4 thanks to those attacks. Vitorre used decent energy, just under 1/3. Wildmutt used good energy, just above 1/3. XLR8 used heavy energy, and is just under 1/2.

tl;dr: XLR8 > Wildmutt > Vitorre > Jaws

Myrmeleo: Jaws is still under Snatch influence. Wildmutt's Nasty Plot is gone, though his stolen Swords Dance is still there, but he's Poisoned, not that it matters, and his legs are operational. XLR8's Swords Dance is likewise gone, his wish is still around, and he has about a half-strength Light Screen in play. Future Sight still on the cards. Sunshine. James has used his only three-mover

Dendrobat: Right, um, let's try this. Jaws and XLR8 haven'tmoved, and are thus about 5 metres/17 feet part. Wildmutt and Vitorre are close to each other, about 1 metre/3 feet apart, while XLR8 is 4 metres/13 feet across from them, and Jaws is about 3 metres/10 feet from the pair. Nice and simple, eh?

Sally: And in a not-unexpected turnaround, XLR8 manages to tie the health lead while also maintaining his energy advantage. While his ally may go down at the drop of a hat, it seems that Team James may not be completely on top as they were last round. It's quite the rollercoaster, folks!

Pelly: Squawk! Shadow, orders! Ca-caw!

"You're closer, Wildmutt ol' chap, and physically better equipped. Pursuit to Dark Pulse on Vittore.

XLR8, Extremespeed into Vittore, then Double Team."

Were still in this guys..

Vittore, quickly fire of a Shock Wave of electric energy at the oncoming Wildmutt. If he is still standing, counter his Dark Pulse with a Psybeam. Otherwise, aim it at XLR8.
Jaws, lob a Water Pulse at the ground between Vittore and XLR8, to put that Extremespeed off, or making it less effective. Curse up after this.

Good luck friends. This is it...

Round 7: It's a KnockOut!

The round begins with Wildmutt coating himself in a black bubble, as he launches a Pursuit of Vittore. The Alakazam tries to retaliate with a Shock Wave, some lighting bolts smacking the Houndoom as the aura bursts all over the Psychic-type, the proximity of the two not having helped Vittore's case. Net result: The Houndoom sways, before falling forward, while his opponent follows suit, slumping atop his prone body. This leaves their respective teammates in a conundrum, as they had been ordered regarding them. XLR8 decides to switch targets, using an Extreme burst of Speed to slam into Jaws. Shaking off the hit, the crocodile returns fire with a Water Pulse, the orb crashing through the Light Screen and splashing the Gallade all over, but not confusing him.

In a much less action-packed part of the round, XLR8 launches a Double Team, his high speed coupled with his lowered health meaning that he produces two clones, which stand by his side. Jaws, meanwhile, is free of Wildmutt's curse, so lays his own Curse upon himself, buffing up his muscles to increase his physical power and durability, but lowering his speed. But then he finds himself knocked back as the Gallade's Future Sight comes to fruition, dealing some fair damage.

A'Tuin: Both Vittore and Wildmutt are unable to battle!

Jaws took good damage, just under 1/4 now, entering critical reaches. XLR8 took decent damage, just under 1/3.

tl;dr: XLR8 > Jaws

Ra: Jaws used fair energy, under 1/4 now. XLR8 used decent energy, still above 1/3.

tl;dr: XLR8 > Jaws

Myrmeleo: Jaws is free of Snatch, and has a Curse boost. XLR8's Wish is still there, and he now has two Double Team clones. Still sunny.

Dendrobat: Jaws is about 2 metres/6 feet away from the mass of Gallade, who are each about 1 metre/3 feet apart.

Sally: And each side loses a member in this round, bringing this down to a two-Pokémon standoff. But will Jaws be able to turn the tables on his much fresher foe?

Pelly: Caw! Orders from James! Twelve and a half percent!

Jaws, it's all you now. Keep your distance, and tear up the sandy ground beneath you with another Earthquake, hopefully making the clones disperse, and XLR8 lose his footing. Then take advantage of your Curse boost with a full bore Body Slam.

"All of you, toss yourselves at him with Extremespeed and disrupt the move; you've got the speed differential to do it. Then deliver a pointblank Thunderbolt."
