Self-Destruct / Explosion

This issue warrants some discussion, but rather than lay out all the groundwork immediately, I'll start off with a hypothetical question for referees and LO's -

If you Self-Destruct, you're immediately KO'ed: it's irrelevant whether you're at 1% or 100%. Energy-wise, obviously having more energy to burn equals a bigger boom, but past a certain hypothetical point you start to get diminishing returns on that input (eg. a Self Destruct at 100% energy is not necessarily twice as powerful as one at 50%).

That said, in a relatively even matchup it will be hard to OHKO the opponent with a Self-Destruct, even at full health/energy: assuming the opponent is just as fresh, they're likely going to make any effort they can to reduce the damage they take from the resulting Self-Destruct, although they'll be pretty close to KO'ed anyway if they take the brunt of it. Lesser opponents will obviously be reduced to giblets, but if you meet an opponent that lets you bring a significant level/evo advantage to the table they get what's coming to them anyway.

tl;dr Self-Destruct is a last ditch move, and reffings should reflect that. It should be hard to gain a one Poke lead and then sweep your opponent's remaining Pokemon by bringing in a string of Self-Destructing jihad Pokemon.

Thanks Reed.

I remember back when Mozz's ref test was "An Electrode uses Explosion on a grass field, what happens?"

But it does make a hole. If you answered that, you got a B.

Isn't there a pretty significant difference between Explosion and Self-Destruct?

In terms of Mozz reffings, only a slightly larger hole.

After the hole is created, Mozz promptly leaves the ref box and starts to penetrate it.

Thats what mine implied. Aside from it was more sexually based to insinuate that Mozz didn't care for the pooper.

;_;.

I don't know if he doesn't care for the pooper, as he's tried it before =o

He shared that bit of information with me.

Whether or not Mozz cares for the pooper or not is rather irreleveant because a hole in Grass field would be moist

I really wish I'd been around in the days of Mozz' ref test.
