Ho-oh Major Pokemon Announcement Next Sunday

http://kotaku.com/5238119/pokemon-re...ke-gold-silver

GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS GSDS

Personally I can't see how they would possibly tease us with so many hints and then deny us the reality.

I'm torn. GS had my least favorite plot of the four, the worst city layout, and poor ordering of the gyms by their respective elements. Of course a Badge #2 bug master isn't going to be able to do squat! And a Badge #1 flying master?! :x

But on the other hand, this has a lot of potential. It starts with the plot, which is need of some major retconning. First of all, in the modern tradition of having multiple characters who are central to the plot approach the hero, and not just his rival and the Champion, I would like to see a GS remake feature appearances during the main story in Johto from Ash (and it'd be nice if he were actually named Ash instead of Red!), Gary (ditto for Blue!), and several gym leaders from Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. For example, it might be nice to see either Agatha or Fantina make an appearance in the house in Ecruteak with the Surfing Rhydon and the Eevee brothers. Perhaps there's a naval trade route between Canalave and Olivine? Appropriate since both cities are on the shore and both cities' gym leaders train with the Steel type. And then once the hero makes his way over to Kanto in the east, it could be easy and fun to have Volkner paying a visit to his old buddy Lt. Surge! Or to have Roxanne paying Brock a visit and Brock hummina-hummina-hummina not knowing what to do. ^_-

Then there's the question of Pokémon. Since I've just mentioned Olivine City, let's start with Jasmine! She made a cameo appearance in DPP. She trained Magnemites in GSC. She should have a Magnezone now! Before people say Magnezone only exists in Sinnoh, remember: duh! She was in Sinnoh! Maybe that's what she meant by "toughening up"? Maybe she went to Volkner for advice since he trains electric-type Pokémon and is famous throughout Sinnoh (and so perhaps famous abroad as well)? What about Faulkner? Good God! He could sure use some help! Give the man a Level 7 Starly to complement that Hoothoot and Pidgeotto of his! Morty? He'd best be having more than just Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar again! There are lots more ghosts now, Morty my man! Even from your own generation, perhaps a Misdreavus would be in order? Last but certainly not least, we come to Clair and Lance. If all they've got are Gyarados, Charizard, Dragonair, and Dragonite again ...! :x Even if they keep the species the same, please tell me they'll at least have new moves? And speaking of new moves ...

... will the GS remake maintain the special/physical split? The obvious answer is, "Of course they will! " Why would they go back now? But you never know. D: Assuming they do the smart thing and keep the split in place now that we've all gotten used to it, will they adjust the trainers' Pokémon and movesets in the game!? Perhaps this is the single most optimistic thing we can take from the long delay in a GS remake announcement: perhaps it took them much longer to announce this than Fire Red and Leaf Green in part because they had to go through and reorganize much more in the GS remakes than they did in the Red and Green ports.

Speaking of the world map's poor design, the #1 change I'd like to see in this game is the availability of a bicycle path or paths in the vicinity of the Daycare Center! @_@ One of my least favorite experiences in Pokemon Silver was biking to hatch eggs. There was all that grass with Ditto and Hypno below the daycare, so you had to pretty much bike north through Goldenrod ... but you couldn't just go in a straight line! There were multiple NPCs in the city who would walk into your path, cutting you off! Sure, you might veer around them, but that required you to pay attention! Then once you went north of Goldenrod, you had to worry about how you were going to get to Ecruteak without going through grass! And that always proved impossible: without a repel, you were bound to fight stupid Stantler south of the city. Then if you biked right you'd hit ocean so instead you went left and crashed into the MooMoo dairy. Whoops! So you learned from that and hung a sharp left turn (hitting down on the D-pad) every time you exited Ecruteak so that you biked down south towards Olivine. And there ... you hit ocean and had to repeat the whole damn thing over again. @_@

Gen 3? Easy, and easiest on Emerald where they specifically redesigned it so you could bike from Verdanturf to the route east of Mauville without bumping into a single soul!

Gen 4? Not bad, either! This time it's straight up-and-down along a single path that takes you from the old well up to the inn where they sell MooMoo Milk. Sort of like Gen 3 only you've got some uphill and downhill parts the Mach Bike needs proper momentum to get over. Nothing you can't handle subconsciously, though! So please -- please!!! -- give us a good bike path in front of the Daycare. @_@

Gen 2 was the best so far. 2 world maps, 2 sets of gyms. The game actually continues past level 50-60 etc.

No contest, the surprise presence of Kanto on the other side of your hometown was the single best inclusion in any of the Pokémon games ever. Better than purchaseable Psychic, better than a useful Normal/Flying teammate early on (STARAPTOR! ), better than being able to breed starters, I dare say. :o That's right: having Kanto and Johto on the same pak is better than having more than one of most of the exclusive gendered monsters in the game.

But it doesn't change the fact that Johto is in need of a major overhaul. Fix the glaring map errors, incorporate the Physical/Special split, give the fans some more cameo appearances to over-analyze, and let's call it a day, shall we? Oh, one more thing ...

FOUR LANDS PLEASE! XD

I know I'm being unrealistic, but ... pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? :3 I'd buy a Nintendo DSi just for this game if you guys did that. Make it a DSi exclusive for all I care: no improvements, no purchase; major improvements, I've got me a new DSi.

I almost forgot from my original list! :O I know they already did Fire Red and Leaf Green, but I was thinking that since the story in GS takes place three years after the story in Kanto that it would be cool if Mewtwo made an appearance. :o Sure, maybe you can't catch him. And sure, maybe that would spawn years of endless speculation about where he is inside the game. lol But it'd be cool to see Mewtwo interact somehow with Team Rocket 2. Even if he was only a name in one of the NPC's speech bubbles.

I do hope that it is a Gold/Silver remake, for the sake of everyone, as the whole community has waited quite a while for such a thing.

But if they make it DSi exclusive. I will hold a huge grudge with Nintendo forever. If they make it DSi only, then we may end up with weird control angles and camera features which I really do not want. I just want the game to be as good as it was before, except including the whole national dex from Sinnoh. Also, traveling to every continent would be brilliant (By every I mean RBY, GSC, RSE and DPP) but I'm not sure if they could pull it off. Maybe thats what they've been spending however long of the time we've been waiting doing.

I do hope that the DP evolutions will be included in the normal dex, as in, Honchkrow, Magmortar, Electivire and Pokemon evolutions like that, as then the gym leaders can possibly get a bit stronger. I agree with Vran in the sense that Jasmine should obviously have some Sinnoh steel types, Magnazone being the main one, and every gym leader should have at least one Pokemon from another Gen. I doubt this will happen however, and assume they will do the same system as Emerald, as in that you can rebattle the gym leaders with Pokemon from different regions, rather than the first time round.

And I agree, the egg hatching lane should be improved. I know how long I've been attempting to breed shinies on D/P, and G/S better improve their root, as otherwise I'll have to learn to *gulp* chain, which I don't intend on doing. I also hope they keep the massively enhanced Shiny Hatching

*Whistles*

Would never happen, but agreed. I'd preorder one of the Blue Badger DSis the second it was confirmed.

Yeah me too.

And for the claim that GSC's story was too lame.. it was the first (and only?) Pokemon game with actual badguys. Your rival steals a Pokemon from Birch. Team Rocket cuts off slowpoke tails and sells them. There's probably more but it's been 10 years so... D:

The rival also steals a Sneasel from some guy in Blackthorn if I recall correctly. Pokemon's never really had a solid storyline anyway.
Really hope this turns out to be the GS remake, my favourite generation by far.

Giovanni was the original, and as such had a decent enough backstory. A mobster who wants to take over the world by using Pokémon to do his evil deeds. He presents himself as quite the philanthropist -- from his role as Viridian City's gym leader to his leadership of Silph Co., Giovanni's quite the man! -- but our hero uncovers the truth behind Silph Co.'s acquisition, behind the Celadon City casino, behind all of it! And in the end, he even helps Giovanni to mend his ways and return to being a good guy. Cliché, yes, but a classic formula nonetheless.

The leader of Team Rocket 2 had the dumbest haircut ever. Right off the bat, that's points lost for GSC right there! ;) But in all seriousness, I had two major issues with this villain. For one thing, he was far too incompetent to be their leader. Having either Lance or the hero fight him would have been enough, but the Lance & Hero tagteam in Mahogany Town was overkill and the final infiltration of the Goldenrod radio station even more so. But for a second thing? His plan sucked! It was ripped right from one of the worst filler episodes of the anime! Remember the time when Butch and Cassidy tried to use radio waves to turn the Pokémon against their trainers? That episode stunk! And it formed the centerpiece for Gold and Silver's plot.

Team Aqua and Team Magma were much cooler and scarier than the previous generations, if a lot stupider. Each organization was something halfway between a streetgang and a cult, the one worshipping a world devoid of water and the other worshipping one with oceans as far as the eye could see. My biggest complaint with Team Aqua was that they named the boss Archie (for the letter A) instead of a more appropriate name like Kevin. ;) While these groups were pretty dumb -- only after they achieved their goals and screwed over the world did either of them realize that reawakening Groudon/Kyogre was bound to have had this sort of apocalyptic outcome -- their dream was nothing short of lunacy-awesome. I mean, seriously: what they sought to achieve was the Pokémon equivalent of nuclear apocalypse. Or, if you're a fan of the story, you could think of it like X/1999. ;) Anyway, Groudon was awesome, Kyogre was awesome, so Slowpoke tails or no Slowpoke tails Gen 3 beats Gen 2 hands-down in my book.

But Diamond and Pearl take the cake for the best villain ever. While Team Galactic as an organization was kinda dumb, combining the sillier aspects of Teams Aqua, Magma, and Rocket2, their leader Cyrus was without a doubt the best villain of the franchise. Where do we even begin?
  • strongly suggested that his parents died when he was young, and he was raised by his relations (or perhaps some random generous couple) in Sunyshore
  • strongly suggested that he sought to resurrect his parents somehow
  • "shunned the company of others" and "preferred to play with machines," cool, cool! He's a Voldemort! ;)
  • He totally lied to his moronic henchmen. Or rather, he only told them half the truth: he told them that he sought to create a new world, one better than the one we live in now. What he didn't tell them was what his new world vision was: a world in which he would destroy everything that exists as we know it, where he would style himself as a god, and he would design a new world (presumably in which suffering was removed)
I mean, he's the ultimate megalomaniac! He's the spitting image of some of time's best villains! He's intelligent! He's calculating! And his intentions are kind but his means are as cold as ice! He would eradicate every single human being from the face of the planet -- his minions, the old man and woman who looked after him, everyone he's ever known! -- if it meant creating a world where you didn't have to experience the pain of separation. I mean ... wow. That's deep for a kid's game.

So if you can't already tell , Cyrus really sold the DP plot for me. I don't know how they changed his backstory (if at all) in Platinum, but in Diamond and Pearl he was worth way more to me than Dawn, Cameo Oak, Cameo Jasmine, or even Cynthia. Team Galactic was the worst villain team of all four generations but they had the best leader of all four generations, too.

So even if GS's Team Rocket revival featured sliced off Slowpoke tails in Azalea Town or a mind-control radio station in Goldenrod, I just don't think they can compare because their boss was the stoogiest stooge out of all of the Pokemon villains.

Being told I suck by someone who liked that episode is like being told I suck by somebody who likes to eat poop with chocolate milk for breakfast. It has no power to hurt me whatsoever. You go ahead and enjoy your Poop Loops, and I'll go ahead and suffer through the GS remakes' plot so long as they have other features that make them worth buying.

File this under significantly unlikely to happen, but a very interesting selling point for the game would be if Gold's second land were Kanto and Silver's second land was Houen. It would actually give people a real reason to buy both, now that GTS has made needing both versions to get version specific Pokes wholly unnecessary. And since both realms were covered and made to be roughly the same size in the Ru/Sa and Fr/LG era, it would take up about the same space.

I would gladly take that as a compromise between greed's "NO! ONLY 2!" and our unrealistic fantasy of 4-in-1.

If that were the case, I would choose Gold without a moments hesitation. If the four regions were a family, Hoenn would, in my opinion, be the batty old grandpa that you throw in an old peoples home and never think about again.

I think improved gym leaders/E4 are a must, with new line ups etc. And cameos in a similar vein to Jasmine appearing in Sunnyshore would be good too.

I wonder if they'll add an extra area, like the Sevii Islands in FRLG? Of course, this is assuming that the announcement is GSDS. I would so laugh it turns out to be "Hey you, Pikachu! 2".

I'd laugh harder if the announcer delivered the news like this:

"HEY, KIDS! ARE YOU EXCITED?"
"Yeaaaaaaaaah! "
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU! I SAID, ARE YOU EXCITED?"
"YEAAAAAAAAAAH! "
"GREAT! Well, we've got some very important guests with us today. Mr. Satoshi Tajiri, Mr. Satoru Iwata, and Mr. Ken Sugimori are here with us today to discuss with you THE FUTURE OF POCKET MONSTERS!"
"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! "

Mr. Iwata approaches the mic. He taps it with his fingers, testing it for feedback. He quietly coughs, and then says in his politest, most deadpan Japanese:

"I am here today to announce to you, the fans, that we have heard your requests for change and we agree. So, effective today, Nintendo no longer has any plans to continue the Pokémon franchise. Instead, Mr. Tajiri and Mr. Sugimori here and the rest of the staff at Game Freak are already hard at work on a brand-new video game that is radically different than anything you've ever played before. We realize that some fans will be saddened by this news, but please understand that we are only doing this in the best interests of you the fans and of your precious memories of this wonderful franchise. Nintendo is committed to excellence. We work hard to create video games that we think you will enjoy, and we supply the best in customer service. It is guiding principles such as these which have brought Nintendo where it is today, and we believe that a return to these principles will see the birth of many more precious memories for you to explore in the years to come. Thank you. That is all."

I'd be upset, but I'd pay good money to get a copy of the video -- especially if it panned to the kids' faces right after he said all that.

We should make a betting pool just for laughs, and there should be a real prize for the winner if his B.S. prediction about the announcement were to actually be correct.
