Badge Effects

This thread serves as a complete collection for badge effects owned by trainers in the ASB. If a badge confers a special ability to a trainer holding it, its effects will be listed here. Trainers who own badges should list the ones they own in their squad summary. In addition, Gym Leaders seeking to get their badges approved may post here for approval.

As in the games, badges are items given out by Gym Leaders. Sometimes, they may also be acquired through tournaments that display the trainer's aptitude and ability. There are also a number of badges which can be purchased in the Poké Mart. Badges bestow a number of benefits upon trainers.

Badge Rules

Spoiler: show
Badges are required to reach the highest levels of the ASB. A trainer may not progress to TL5 without acquiring a badge of some kind. A trainer may not progress to TL6 without two badges, one of which must be a Gym Badge.

Matches which are labelled as "no badges" will negate the effects of all badges used. Global badges may not be brought and attached badges will have no effect.

Any badge created is subject to LO approval. Attaching a badge to a Pokemon must be approved in Squad Submissions. Message an LO if you have attached a badge to a pokémon and wish to have it approved quickly (do this only once).

Trainers who own badges from gyms that disappeared/disbanded/exploded before this rule may "trade" their badge for one with benefits. The new badge must be of the same gym type that the old badge was won from (ie you can trade an old ghost gym badge for a new ghost gym badge, but not an old ghost gym badge for a fire gym badge). Badges for gyms without an active gym of the same type or "theme" gyms will be replaced on a case-by-case basis.

If a gym leader wishes to use badges in his gym matches, he must bring his badge before any others. If the gym leader's badge is a global badge, he must use that badge as his global badge. If a gym leader has an attachable badge, one of the Pokemon must have it attached. In other words, a gym leader brings his badge + any other badges he wishes or he brings none at all.

All badges have the following format:

[Badge name]
Type of badge (Attachable or Global)
A brief description of the badge.
Badge Effect: Name of effect.
A description of what the badge does.

Badge Benefits

Owning a badge in excess of those required for a Trainer Level grants trainers a 5% discount on KOs and a 10% discount on TP required to get to each trainer level. So, for example, where getting to TL4 usually requires 60 KOs and 180 TP, a trainer with a badge would need only to acquire 57 KOs and 162 TP.

With notable exceptions, badges also bestow benefits specific to each individual badge. Most have some effect in battle, but some have more passive abilities. Some affect only one pokémon, while others affect all pokémon in a squad.

Attachable Badges

Attachable badges refer to any badge that provides a specific, permanent effect to one Pokemon. There is no limit to the number of attachable badges a trainer can bring to a match, but each Pokemon may only use one attachable badge at a time.

Global Badges

Global badges are essentially any badges that are not attachable badges. These badges typically give benefits to the trainer using them: an example of this is the Pokebowl 2008 badge, which allows its holder to use two Pokemon above their trainer level in a match without the risk of those Pokemon disobeying. A trainer may only bring one global badge to a match: the badge is declared when a trainer posts his squad or (in the case of 1v1 matches) PMs his Pokemon choice to the ref. Global badges may not be used in legend matches.

Current Gym Badges

Spoiler: show
Pallet Badge
Global Badge
This badge radiates with powerful evolutionary energy, imbued with the power of the elements. It contains small shards of each evolutionary stone, with an everstone set in its center. The energies from the badge grant the wearer abilities beyond their natural capabilities, allowing them to tap into energies they never have before.
Badge Effect: Adaptability
When the trainer posts their squad, he or she may choose two (if posting second) or three (if posting first) moves which are learned by Pokémon on the squad. When each pokemon in the match is sent out, the badge holder may choose one of these moves to add to his pokemon's movepool. This move is usable until the Pokémon faints or runs out of type energy. If they do not normally have this type in their move set, they will be granted a significant amount of type energy or enough for one use, whichever is greater. Mimic restrictions apply. Sig moves and Sketch may not be chosen, but normal moves gained through a sig may. Legend exclusive moves may not be chosen.

Solstice Badge
Attachable Badge
Representing both the change in the seasons and the change in one's self, the tree with four colors of leaves that shapes the Solstice Badge is given to those who can defeat Sneasel12 in the Wildwood Gym.
Badge Effect: Seasoned Warrior
Using the power of the seasons, the wearer of the Solstice Badge may change the type of the move they are currently performing to represent one of the four seasons. The types available to be changed to are Fire for Summer, Water for Autumn, Ice for Winter, and Ground for Spring. Moves must use Significant energy or less in order to be able to have their type changed by this effect. These effects can be used a total of four times and each season can be represented a maximum of twice.

Steel Will Badge
Global
The Steel Will Badge is presented to those fearless enough to conquer the Iron Throne. Signified in the decorative shield of it's design is the impenetrable defences surmounted by those who achieve ownership.
Badge Effect: Tempered Skin
This badge imbues the owners Pokemon with a resonating defensive ability. As such, all defensive boosts that they obtain will have their duration prolonged for a significant period of time, and will not begin to fade until two rounds after use.

Spirit Badge
Attachable Badge
This badge represents the discipline and training necessary to triumph over Apollo in combat. The burning heart symbolizes the passion with which a trainer must battle.
Badge Effect: Fighting Spirit
The wearer of this badge is exhilarated by the thrill of the fight and recovers mild energy every other time he or she deals damage with a physical attack. The wearer also receives a slight boost to physical attack and defense, as if permanently under the effects of Bulk Up.

Fleeting Badge
Attachable Badge
The Fleeting Badge is awarded to those who prove their mettle against KamenAeons in the Sky Garden Gym. The opal set in a whirlwind of colour represents the changeability of wind, and how easily the air of a battle can be turned away from a looming defeat to a close victory.
Badge Effect: Second Wind
The Pokemon attached with this badge will find themselves more alert and limber, their mind able to track distant prey and incoming danger with ease. With a keen eye, they will find their attack accuracy significantly improved, able to hit their desired marks more often than not, even with impaired eyesight. They will also become significantly more resistant to negative effects (status conditions, mental status, curses, debuffs etc.), any which take hold of the holder being less potent. The effects of Second Wind will, naturally, become stronger when the holder is trailing in health, their mindset becoming pretty much unflappable in the face of bad odds.

Buffer Badge
Global
The Buffer Badge is bestowed upon all those strong enough in both mind and body to overcome the Gym of Enlightenment. The badge itself is a translucent, blue pane of glass that rests atop a similarly translucent pink cube. Light refracts off of the badge when looked at from most angles, and the badge has a strange effect in that it will repel slightly from your hand, just barely grazing the palm rather than resting comfortably.
Badge Effect: Screen Enhancement
When the Buffer Badge is in use, the owner's Pokemon will all find themselves more adept at using the moves Reflect, Light Screen, and Barrier. Cubic Screens will last for an extra two rounds, while Pane Screens are now able to take an additional light amount of damage before shattering. All screens will also go up instantaneously, similar to the abilities of a Mr. Mime.

Energy Badge
Global Badge
This badge emphasises the debilitating abilities of the owner's Pokemon. Any status inflicted by the owner's Pokemon will be slightly more potent, but will more importantly enthuse the Pokemon which inflicted the status, giving them a boost akin to Work Up. Standard boost stipulations apply.

Historic Gym Badges

Spoiler: show
Primary Badge
Global Badge
The Primary Badge is given to those trainers tenacious enough to best Kairne in the Triad Gym. The gems embedded in the badge symbolise the triple threat of Grass, Fire, and Water; and show the owner's mastery over the basic types.
Badge Effect: Type Mastery
When used, each time the owner of this badge sends out a Pokémon for the first time in the battle, he/she can choose 1 damage-dealing move of that Pokémon's type(s). That Pokémon may use that move until the end of the battle, although usage of it will take a light amount more energy than normal. If a Pokémon is returned to their PokéBall and sent out later in the same battle, a new move is not chosen, instead they retain the previously chosen move. Additional move restrictions apply (NO Legend moves, or exclusive moves, such as Sketch, Conversion/Conversion2, Transform, etc. Physically impossible moves also may not be chosen, such as a Voltorb with ThunderPunch, but if the Pokémon can reasonably use it with a small bit of improvisation, such as Magnemite with Steel Wing, that is permissible).

Shining Badge
Attachable Badge
The Shining Badge is awarded to trainers who successfully best Mercutio, Gym Leader of the Golden Valley Gym. A precious jewel, set in dragon scales, the badge represents the strength and toughness that must be overcome to live to tell the tale of taking it. Those who win in such an epic setting will be granted a defensive shield that can be attached to a pokémon of their choice.
Badge Effect: "Tenfold shields"
When struck by damaging super effective moves, the bearer of this badge will take only 50% of the damage they would normally take after all other calculations have been made. This effect will be triggered for the first two such moves which strike the bearer. Subsequently, this badge will have no effect. This badge must be attached via Squad Submissions.

Smoke Badge
Attachable Badge
The Smoke Badge is proof of a trainer's victory over Sneasel12 in The Last Stop Ghost Gym, the main metal casing of which is shaped as a wafting puff of smoke. The ever swirling smoke behind the thick glass of the badge represents the ability to change one's strategy at a moment's notice, a quality one must possess if one wishes to be a top tier trainer.
Badge Effect: Shifting Smoke
The Pokemon this badge is attached to is enveloped in a smokey aura that, when touched by an opponent, causes them to become horrified. This horror prevents the opponent from using any attack or technique gained through their signature for the rest of the match. Additionally, if the opponent normally has a justifiable reason to be afraid of the wearer, the opponent will also have any mental stat changes removed and their mental state made neutral. The effects of fear and intimidation moves are not affected by the horror created by this smoke.

Breakwater Badge
Global Badge
Depicting a rocky breakwater with a mighty wave looming behind it, this badge is given out to those who defeat Concept in his water gym.
Badge Effect: High Tide
Once per battle in switch = KO, the wielder may switch a pokemon as if it were switch = OK (obviously unlike BP, VS and UT, this doesn't pass any stat changes). This is treated exactly as it would be in switch=OK, with the opponent getting a re-order and such. In switch = OK, the wielder may (once per battle) pass on stat changes using a conventional switch as if using one of the switching moves. This is still treated as a regular switch would be (with the opponent getting a re-order). In either case it costs good energy (which, like the energy used for baton pass, cannot be recovered in the pokeball) and even if the switch is somehow prevented, the badge effect cannot be used again that match.

Onslaught Badge
Global Badge
The badge of the Donnybrook Coliseum, emblazoned with a flaming fist representing justice. This badge is given to trainers who triumphed in the Coliseum, and represents their skill and determination to win in an all out assault.
Badge Effect: Furious Onslaught
This badge allows the wielder to use one additional Three Move Combo in all of their matches.

Placoid Badge
Attachable Badge
Trainers who outpace the Fish Gym Leader, DaveTheFishGuy, in battle will be awarded this blue-grey item to symbolise their acheivement. The Placoid Badge is a trio of similar structures, three overlapping triangular shapes, somewhat like Shark teeth. These represent the scales that sharks have over their body, providing them with a smooth path through the water, as well as a physical deterrant.
Badge Effect: Sharkskin
This Badge may be attached to a Pokemon through the Hidden Power Submissions thread. This Pokémon will then be considered to benefit from the Sharpedo Species Characteristic - whenever the wearer is struck with a physical blow, the attacker will receive 1/4 of the damage dealt as recoil due to striking the wearer's Rough Skin.

The Skull and Cross Badge
Attachable Badge
A small badge in the shape of a Marowak Skull and two Bones, the Skull and Cross badge is the token given to victorious trainers at Lonely Cubone’s Terra Firma Gym, and is sometimes known as the symbol of the Jolly Wakker.
Badge Effect: Earth’s Renewal
The Pokémon which holds this badge seems to restore itself from the very earth it stands upon. At the end of any round in which the Pokémon is touching the ground (including concrete/clay if the arena is so based) it will restore a Mild amount of health, restoring up to 1/3 of its total health over 10 rounds of ending the round grounded. 1/3 is the maximum that can be healed by this badge, even if the holder survives long enough for it to be more.

Struggle Badge
Global Badge
This is the badge of the Combeenation Gym and the symbol of having beaten its Gym Leader, Stu. The Struggle Badge has a spider in a web to represent triumphing over Bug Typed Pokémon in their own natural habitat but also to represent one of the areas within the Gym itself. The name is derived from the fact people often consider it a struggle to fight with an entire team of Bug Pokémon. Its effect provides the trainer with a boost in battles to represent that most Bug Typed Pokémon are often considered weak.
Badge Effect: Soldier On
If the holders Pokémon raise their stats during the battle, the increase becomes slightly more powerful.

Tree Star Badge
Attachable Badge
The badge of the Lazarus Gym, the Tree Star Badge is, as the name suggests, a leaf shaped in the form of a star. The badge glows with an eerie power which serves to level the playing field for those who may have a few less million years of evolution on their side.
Badge Effect: Fossil Fortitude
The attached Pokemon is treated as though it is one level higher than it actually is--the Pokemon will remain at its actual level, but the badge bestows it with extra power. The actual benefit is up to the ref's scale (extra health/energy, increased attack/defense power) but there must be some benefit given. This badge is attached to one Pokemon in signature submissions but can be changed to a different Pokemon at will. This effect does not trigger the disobedience clause should another uplevel be used in the same battle, as it does not actually raise the level of the Pokemon.

Pyramid Badge
Attachable Badge
Those trainers that are able to conquer their personal demons and defeat DaveTheFishGuy in Silent Hill will be awarded with a Badge associated with the haunted town's most fearful guardian. Though the raw power of Pyramid Head is unable to be contained, the effect his appearance has on both humans and monsters alike has been infused into this tiny replica of his signature helm, sending all interlopers running.
Badge Effect: Neither Rain Nor Snow Nor Glom Of Nit
Infused with the supernatural abilities to stalk and track a specific target, the Pokémon this Badge is attached to is made more tenacious in battle. This gives them more stamina, making them more resistant to the effects of sleep and tiredness, allowing such benefits as taking longer to succumb to attacks like Hypnosis and Sleep Powder and not getting as winded or using more energy after multiple successive attacks, but does not grant the bearer any extra energy. This Badge must be attached via Squad Submissions.

Monolith Badge
Attachable Badge
The Monolith Badge is awarded to those who best the very stones beneath their feet and the leader of the Rock Gym, Haymez. The badge is composed of diamond, cut in such a way as to catch light and appear to glow. This round cut mineral imbues the wearer with tremendous resistance, enabling them to face their biggest weakness without fear.
Badge Effect: Rock Solid
When attached to a Pokemon this badge hardens their resistance, enabling them to face their greatest weaknesses with solid determination. Any double weaknesses naturally held by the bearer will be reduced to single weaknesses while this badge is attached. This does not affect weaknesses unnaturally obtained through sigs or other effects, only those given by the bearer's natural typing.

Natal Badge
Global Badge
A simple badge shaped like an egg with a variety of pastel colored dots, bulging slightly. The metal it's made out of has a strange quality, pliable yet durable, sleek yet soft to the touch - if you didn't know any better, you would think that it was made from wool and filled with cotton. This odd badge has equally odd powers, radiating an energy that brings out the youthful energy of Pokemon.
Badge Effect: Youthful Exuberance
When this badge is brought into battle, all of the holder's Pokemon tire slower than usual, allowing them to pass a little longer without a rest. This does not mean that they never need one, however, but the time between rests can be longer (a round at maximum) and use of low-energy moves will be equivalent to inaction or a resting move.

Abnormality Badge
Attachable Badge
This strange badge is given to the victors of the Plushie Palooza Gym as proof of their victory over the abnormal ways of this Normal Gym. This badge is a strange mishmash of all types of Normal Pokemon, shaped like the head of a Kecleon with Wigglytuff ears, Clefable wings and a swirl for an eye, colored Yellow Green with streaks of Pink and Plum. Despite its odd shape it grants a rather... normal ability.
Badge Effect: Normalize
Three times per battle, the Pokémon to which this badge is attached may use negate the type energy of one move, making it effectively typeless and not using any type energy for the move.

Biohazard Badge
Global Badge
The radioactive skull badge given out by Shadowshocker, leader of the Poison-typed Ground Zero Gym. All of Shadow's Pokemon are designed after some of Jumbaa Jookiba's 628 illegal genetic experiments, though due to general restraints Shadow has not been able to transcribe soopuh-Pokemon abilities to them. No one said anything about the badge, though, and it seems that prolonged exposure to the nasty sides of Poison has turned the badge septically sinister...
Badge Effect: Insult to Injury
If the holder's opponent's Pokemon is under at least one status, the holder's Pokemon does 15% more damage to the statused Pokemon.

The Smelting Badge
Attachable Badge
The Smelting Badge shows a Pokémon’s ability to be involved with their environment, and the strength of the minerals and other materials that have created the world we live in today. By defeating the gym leader and his Pokémon that are so engaged with the world around them, a victorious opponent gains a powerful tool. Any Pokémon that welds this badge has the ability to passively regenerate energy over time. This badge only restores a light amount of energy per turn, and caps at 1.5 Hyper Beams of energy regenerated.

Scorch Badge
Attachable Badge
This badge is awarded to those who have stood against the heat of the Devil's Playground. With a burning ruby gem in the center, trails of flames seem to wisp out of the gem in what resembles a blazing red sun.
Badge Effect: Fiery Kickstart
Upon attaching this badge, the user will feel a surge of adrenaline rushing through them as dancing black flames lick across their arms and legs. For the immediate four rounds the holder is sent in, the holder will have a limbered dexterity, granting a speed boost akin to a long term Agility. Along with this, the adrenaline rush will leave the holder feeling little to no pain from attacks that strike them (though the damage will still be evident). Meanwhile, the momentum from the speed boost grants the holder a 10% boost to physical attacks during the rounds the badge is in effect. These boosts are granted by the power of the badge, and thus the holder will not feel any more tired than he/she would normally feel without the badge's effect.

Maelstrom Badge
Attachable Badge
Seemingly charged with the energy of a coursing vortex, this badge symbolizes the strength and fortitude needed to claim victory over Speedo-sporting Deebs in Shipwreck Cove.
Badge Effect: Calypso’s Blessing
This badge enables its holder to wield an unrelenting resolve in times of crisis. The selected Pokémon receives an incredible boost to its resistances, reducing both the intensity and duration of physical and mental status effects inflicted upon it. Paralysis and confusion are more easily overcome, burns and poisons more aptly soothed, and sleep more keenly evaded. Toxic and Curse are halved in effectiveness. Additionally, the holder is more in control of their mental state, making them far less likely to succumb to the effects of deliberately provocative moves such as Taunt and Attract.

Tidal Badge
Attachable Badge
Those wary enough of the changing tides in Shipwreck Cove and its resident Gym Leader are rewarded with this badge, a chrome silver token emblazoned with translucent blue waves.
Badge Effect: Ebb & Flow
The wielder of this badge more keenly feels the ebb and flow of battle, and strives to conserve this momentum in its favor. During odd-numbered rounds, they will receive a 15% boost to their offenses. During even-numbered rounds, they will receive an equivalent boost to their defenses. The boosts last for one round only and are thus mutually exclusive. This cycle persists throughout the match, but is tied to the battle itself and not the wielder - if the wielder is withdrawn during an odd-numbered round and then released during a different odd-numbered round, they will only receive the appropriate offensive boost. These boosts are not transferable via conventional switching moves or moves that copy the target's mental state.

Terra Firma Badge
Attachable Badge
The Terra Firma Badge is presented to those fearless enough to conquer the Land's End Gym. Signified in the three pillars of it's design are the unshaken hearts of those reigning victorious.
Badge Effect: Stalwart Heart
The Pokemon attached with this badge will find themselves much more tenacious in battle than other Pokemon. When they reach the midpoint of health, they will be granted a 15% boost to both their offences and defences, subject to standard boosting stipulations. Additionally, they will become more enthusiastic in battle when they are trailing in health, granted all the boosts of enthusiasm.

Fundamental Badge
Global Badge
This Badge represents the perils and dangers a new Trainer must face, earned by besting Slash in the tall grass.
Badge Effect: Basic Perils
Statuses and debuffs inflicted by the badgeholder's Pokemon are more potent and harder to dispel. While these effects are still subject to diminishing returns, they are slightly less affected by them.

Voltage Badge
Global Badge
Once per match, the wielder of this badge may use it to recharge a Pokemon, giving it a surge of adrenaline that refreshes it, even if it would normally need a break. This does not count as a move and does not restore any energy to the affected Pokemon- it just rejuvenates them the same way a breather would.

Cursed Mask Badge
Attachable Badge
A badge in the likeness of of an Egyptian pharaoh's burial mask, this badge serves as a reminder about how the spirits of our world bring curses and bad luck to those unfortunate enough to meet them.
Any curse inflicted on the opponent will last about 1.5x times as long as before, and any move that would cure the opponent from a curse, such as Refresh, will have about a 33% reduced chance of working.

The unlimited energy found in the environment is signified in the infinity symbol feeding through the luminous flower in the centre of the badge.

Petrified Badge
Attachable Badge
The Petrified Badge is presented to those who escape the Sealed Chamber with their lives. The wood that is now stone that the symbol is crafted of represents the unyielding will of those who obtain it.
Badge Effect: Breaking Barriers
The bearer of this badge becomes emboldened with an astonishing power, finding that types that resist their primary type are now hit neutrally by attacks of said primary type. This does not alter immunities (i.e.: Electric attacks do not deal neutral damage when used on Ground types, etc.), and will never cause moves to become super effective.

Rebellion Badge
Attachable Badge
The Rebellion Badge is granted to those who have proved edgier than Crys in his Hot Topic gym. The words “Rebellion Badge” are scrawled across an old Hot Topic coupon in black permanent marker, followed by the Gym Leader’s signature. When asked about the perceived laziness on his end when designing the badge, Crys responded with the following, “See, it’s all about defying expectation, breaking the badge meta. The expectation of getting some glamorous badge forged from the skull of a Marowak is what ruins this generation. They gotta accept that a simple certificate of their achievement works as well. It’s also 50% off your next purchase when you buy more than three items over 25 dollars, so yeah.”
Badge Effect: Screw the Rules
The wearer of this badge, if an uplevel, will not be counted as an uplevel in battle, but will still retain the uplevel bonuses. Thus, if another uplevel was brought to battle alongside the badge holder, neither would suffer disobedience.
