Don't be hating on Whimsicott, Blastoise. With Prankster it is one hell of a staller.
You got Fly without getting Strength? o_O |

The boulder in Dream Works is the wrong side of the hole though, I'm at the E4 and not managed to get in there yet.

You can only go there after beating the E4. The traffic cone vanishes.

I beat the game without getting Strength. It is that poorly placed.

You're face when after years of unsuccessful Lucky Egg poaching you're handed one out of the blue just for entering a cave.

Just Fire Blast it. Use that Ghost/Fire Pokemon to do it.

Beat the eight gym pretty easily, although it presented slightly more of a challenge than the previous 3. Team is now all level 41-42, heading north through route 10 and towards the Elite Four.

I tried replaying the game and got through the third Gym in close to an hour and a half using only Tepig/Pignite. I can say it's a MUCH more powerful Pokemon than the Snivy line, I had to stomach a few losses from the first Gym, but after that it's steamrolling everything without even needing support (I haven't caught a single Pokemon the whole game). I'm at the fourth Gym right now, about three hours in.
Flame Charge is particularly useful STAB attack, especially against nasties like Woobat and Munna.

Fire starter is easy mode for Gen 5. Grass starter is hard mode for Gen 5. It's not surprising you're noticing a marked difference in gameplay already.

I don't NEED it. I simply just find games more enjoyable WITH walkthroughs, because I'm not one of those guys who enjoy beating puzzles and finding out new things. Plus- it's a pokemon game, the walkthrough can't tell me everything. ANd I don't necessarily follow it to the letter. Since it's my own team and my own strategy, I can still get a lot of enjoyment from beating the Elite 4
Also for god's sake....I haven't played ANY rpgs in which you could walk into TREES. A forest, yes, but there was no path or anything in the trees. I assumed they were a wall.

One thing I miss about the old Pokemon sites is there's no longer a huge map that points out where all the hidden items are. Bulbapedia just lists a where they are, no pictoral support.

Has gaming really become that? Following a series of guides to point you to where all the objectives and treasures are? Have gamers really lost their spirit of adventure and exploration?
Due to the graphical changes to Pokemon, I imagine taking huge whole area pictures are difficult to piece together. Add in the greatly improved Dowsing Device, it really shouldn't be that hard to find stuff. |

For me, there really isn't. Plus, I'll get the same excitement from reading that, say, Zack Ryder won the WWE Championship this Raw, and seeing that on television. It's probably why I love reading books so much. That's just me, though.

1. Random encounters 2. The dowsing device tracks items out of reach, too, often putting one at risk of random encounters As I said earlier, I don't really have a lot of patience for long, repetitive things, such as the grind. Going through the wild encounter animations every freaking time is a major pain even with disabled effect animations, and while I use prodigious numbers of Repel, they eat away cash pretty rapidly. If I'm forced to fight a Pokemon, I waste PP on overkilling a worthless opponent who gives almost no XP in return for the fight. With the overworld map, I can be a lot more efficient with my steps and minimize the random encounter problem. What you say about the map changes only seems true for specific 3D maps like the long bridge with the up/down pan and the E4 rooms, which aren't places where the dowsing device typically triggers. And I'd settle for 70% of Unova mapped rather than 0%, really. ... @Concept - you fared a lot better than I did, but I had to rely on my more powerful starter a lot more than you did, at that. We can use revives in-battle?
