Don't be hating on Whimsicott, Blastoise. With Prankster it is one hell of a staller.

You got Fly without getting Strength? o_O

The boulder in Dream Works is the wrong side of the hole though, I'm at the E4 and not managed to get in there yet.

You can only go there after beating the E4. The traffic cone vanishes.

I beat the game without getting Strength. It is that poorly placed.

Beat the eight gym pretty easily, although it presented slightly more of a challenge than the previous 3. Team is now all level 41-42, heading north through route 10 and towards the Elite Four.

I tried replaying the game and got through the third Gym in close to an hour and a half using only Tepig/Pignite. I can say it's a MUCH more powerful Pokemon than the Snivy line, I had to stomach a few losses from the first Gym, but after that it's steamrolling everything without even needing support (I haven't caught a single Pokemon the whole game). I'm at the fourth Gym right now, about three hours in.

Flame Charge is particularly useful STAB attack, especially against nasties like Woobat and Munna.

Fire starter is easy mode for Gen 5. Grass starter is hard mode for Gen 5. It's not surprising you're noticing a marked difference in gameplay already.

You do realize he is the same person who couldn't figure out that you could walk into forests tiles in the UPN game right?

I don't NEED it. I simply just find games more enjoyable WITH walkthroughs, because I'm not one of those guys who enjoy beating puzzles and finding out new things. Plus- it's a pokemon game, the walkthrough can't tell me everything. ANd I don't necessarily follow it to the letter. Since it's my own team and my own strategy, I can still get a lot of enjoyment from beating the Elite 4

Also for god's sake....I haven't played ANY rpgs in which you could walk into TREES. A forest, yes, but there was no path or anything in the trees. I assumed they were a wall.

Cousin dropped my DSi so have to restart with a level 35ish team around Driftveil (saved right before Clay) when I was just around level 40 right at the beginning of Mistraiton. ;-;
Previous Team:
Thorell: Level 42 Male Galvantula
Lutris: Level 39 Male Samurott
Misa Amane: Level 38 Female Gothorita
Gossy: Level 40 Female Whimsicott
Roglo: Level 37 Male Pansear
Lol: Level 23 Shiny Male Fly user Tranquill (only shiny I've had in seven years ;; second shiny I've ever owned).
Now:
Gossy: Level 35 Cottonee
Lutris: Level 33 Dewott
Roglo: Level 33
Misa Amane: Level 33

I caught Joltik around level 24 so I now have a frack ton of levelling to do. D:

One thing I miss about the old Pokemon sites is there's no longer a huge map that points out where all the hidden items are. Bulbapedia just lists a where they are, no pictoral support.

Has gaming really become that? Following a series of guides to point you to where all the objectives and treasures are? Have gamers really lost their spirit of adventure and exploration?

Due to the graphical changes to Pokemon, I imagine taking huge whole area pictures are difficult to piece together. Add in the greatly improved Dowsing Device, it really shouldn't be that hard to find stuff.

For me, there really isn't. Plus, I'll get the same excitement from reading that, say, Zack Ryder won the WWE Championship this Raw, and seeing that on television. It's probably why I love reading books so much. That's just me, though.

Victory road was pretty cool - Elite Four time now. I'll update this post as I go through Managed to avoid spoilers on this lot sp should be interesting. The team as of beginning the final challenge;

Spoiler: show
Sigilyph level 43 (Male)
Mild @ Nothing
Psybeam
Fly
Hypnosis
Air Slash

Throh level 44 (Male)
Docile @ Shell Bell
Circle Throw
Storm Throw
Bulk Up
Strength

Serperior level 44 (Male)
Quirky @ Miracle Seed
Slam
Leaf Blade
Leec Seed
Coil

Cofagrigus level 45 (Female)
Bold @ Spell Tag
Payback
Haze
Shadow Ball
Will O Wisp

Scolipede level 44 (Male)
Rash @ Rocky Helmet
Poison Jab
Bulldoze
Agility
Megahorn

Zebstrika level 45 (Female)
Bashful @ Magnet
Stomp
Thunderwave
Flame Charge
Thunderbolt

First challenge:
Spoiler: show
Marshall was pretty easy. Sigilyph felled Throh and Sawk and bought Conkeldurr to critical before falling to a stone edge, then Serperior finished the day (although I got a bit lucky with a missed Jump Kick, otherwise Serperior would've gone down too).

Second Challenge:
Spoiler: show
Grimsley provided much more of a challenge. Throh took out Scrafty then lost to Liepard (bloody sand attack and flinch hax), Scolipede lost to Bisharp as did Sigilyph, Zebstrika fell (predictably) to Krookodile. Serperior again delivered the win.

Third Challenge:
Spoiler: show
I take on Caitlin third. Predictably Scolipede loses to Reuniclus after just getting off a single megahorn. Cofagrigus gets his first action, winning that match up, but Musharna is a beast and beats not only Cofagrigus, but Sigilyph and Zebstrika as well. Serperior wins. Had to use a max revive, had Zebstrika beat Sigilyph, then another max revive and Serperior finished the match. First use of items in battle. Sad times.

Fourth Challenge:
Spoiler: show
Shauntel was tough. Scolipede lost to Cofagrigus, Jellicant beat Sigilyph and Zebstrika (cursed body meant I couldn't use thunderbolt). Chandelure beat my Cofagrigus and revived Zebstrika before finally falling to my revived Sigilyph, meaning that Serperior finished all four itself now. Two more max revives used and that's all of them, although I still have plenty of revives, hyper potions and full restores. Bring on the champion!

Due to the graphical changes to Pokemon, I imagine taking huge whole area pictures are difficult to piece together. Add in the greatly improved Dowsing Device, it really shouldn't be that hard to find stuff.
Two annoyances:

1. Random encounters
2. The dowsing device tracks items out of reach, too, often putting one at risk of random encounters

As I said earlier, I don't really have a lot of patience for long, repetitive things, such as the grind. Going through the wild encounter animations every freaking time is a major pain even with disabled effect animations, and while I use prodigious numbers of Repel, they eat away cash pretty rapidly. If I'm forced to fight a Pokemon, I waste PP on overkilling a worthless opponent who gives almost no XP in return for the fight.

With the overworld map, I can be a lot more efficient with my steps and minimize the random encounter problem. What you say about the map changes only seems true for specific 3D maps like the long bridge with the up/down pan and the E4 rooms, which aren't places where the dowsing device typically triggers.

And I'd settle for 70% of Unova mapped rather than 0%, really.

...

@Concept - you fared a lot better than I did, but I had to rely on my more powerful starter a lot more than you did, at that. We can use revives in-battle?
