Boolean Searching
Is there a reason we (seem to) have Boolean searching disabled? I got tired of ANDs not doing their job so I decided to figure out what syntax I should use here, and then I came upon this vBulletin help thread from 2005. It seems to suggest that we members should have the option to toggle our Search settings provided the site admin has enabled Boolean searches from the CPanel. I can't find that switch, so either I'm missing it or else it isn't there. If the latter, is there a particular reason you've disabled Boolean searches? And is there a vBulletin language alternative for the Boolean AND?
Example: I'd like to be able to search for all posts by user Talon87 containing the words Togekiss and Photobucket. Currently, I can only get results which contain either Togekiss or Photobucket in them despite typing "Togekiss AND Photobucket" (no quotes). EDIT: I can currently achieve the same result as the desired outcome with the + sign, e.g. Togekiss+Photobucket. But I'm just curious why AND, as a Boolean operator, is disabled.

Because people don't usually search their own posts that extensively?

It's not about searching one's own posts.
And I was looking for something for someone who asked me to help them find something I had once posted, ass.

Wow you really do not know how to take a joke.
Maybe vBulletin works like Google search where it deletes common words like "and" "or" when searching for words, but a "+" is uncommon enough that it has that special function? |

Whereby "joke" you mean "smartass comment that served no benefit"? Yeah, the world sure could do with a whole lot more of those!

I think it has something to do with how the URLs are pulled.
+ is a pretty typical symbol to use for URL search functions when multiple words are used when either concatenating a string as a search item or searching inclusively. Why can't you just use +? It's a pretty standard search feature modifier. EDIT: Huh. vbulliten must have a weird search algorithm or something because the - operator doesn't work. It just treats it as "-word".

I can. I'm just curious why a programming standard half a century old is not enabled by default and/or has been disabled.

I'm not sure if it was disabled or not default; I think it's just now how vBulliten handles searches.
Which is more of the problem with the base software than anything else. vBulliten's search feature has pretty much always been a poor-programmed piece of crap since it's programmed to deal with its extremes and fails to handle it's expected load as a result. |

Hi. Have you met Talon87 before? Do you live under a mountain? This is the surface world, where Talon can't take a joke since 1999. Possibly even longer than that!
Don't we also run on an older version of vB since we didn't like the newer versions with their ugly format and stupid features and broken thingies? |

vB4 sucks. If I remember right, we did vB4, it sucked, we went back down.
