Weight Loss
As of today I have lost 100 lbs since Jan 2012, so I thought it would be a fitting occasion to start a weight loss thread!
I know there's another one but it's been inactive since 2010... Anyways, anyone else in UPN trying to lose weight? |

How did you lose 100 lbs? Are you going to keep that off?
I was pretty fat IMV after December because I have a taboo where I can't eat ice cream outside of December, so I pigged out for the whole month. Then my weight spiked and I got exercising and lost like 15 lbs, but I can't go below that due to the high BF%. I've been working with BPK to get around that with weight training. I'm an excellent runner, both long distance and sprinting, but one levels off on cardio after a certain point. Even when I was in track & field, where I was running mad every day, I don't think I lost more than 10 lbs even with a healthy diet.

It's been entirely calorie restriction for me. I don't know how fit people go about losing weight, but I've just been limiting my intake this whole time, and trying to go for protein rather than carbs when I can; if my finances weren't so tight I'd be eating way more protein and way fewer carbs.
I sure hope I keep it off. The fact that I haven't gained it back yet constantly surprises me. |

I'm not really trying to lose weight, but I'm trying to get back into shape. Mostly lifting free weights and trying to get some miles on my feet.

2. How much money does it cost for you to eat each day? 3. How much exercise do you do? 4. Were you considered overweight/obese before starting this diet? 5. How do you cope with the urge to eat? 6. How much do you sleep?

2. Hard to calculate. ~$40 in groceries, and then I eat out maybe 2-3 times with friends 3. On a regular basis, maybe 20-30 minutes of walking. Today it was around and 1.5 hours. I'm trying to increase this by walking home from campus more often - it's about 1.5 miles one way. 4. Extremely. I am still obese, just 100 lbs less so. 5. Usually I just ignore it, or drink a Diet Coke or something. 6. Usually I get 6-7 hours three times a week, and 8-9 hours the other four days. |

For comparison, I have a resting BMR of like 1700 calories (which is above average) but I eat 2000 calories per day, or at least I try to keep at that. I haven't noticed any weight loss. I was on the cusp of overweight/normal, now I'm in the high range for normal, but my BF% is 18.9.
I drink a lot of diet (and water) but it's usually not enough for me to ward off eating desire. If I don't supplement the 2000 calories I tend to sleep in the unhealthy range of like 16 hours. Staying awake is really tough. Basically...I eat twice as much as you do, but sleep twice as much. Exercise and diet are comparable, but while I'm capable of high intensity exercise, it just aggravates the sleep if I don't eat. I can live off ~$5-8 per day in terms of pure cost.

Have you tried chewing gum or eating sunflower seeds? Last year when I started my weight loss, and it was really really hard to ignore the cravings, I went through tons of sugar free gum a week. That helped a lot. My friend has had nice results using sunflower seeds.
I've also found that I am far more able to control my hunger when I am at work than when I am in school or at home, for some reason? |
