'Whose Line is it, Anyway?' is back!
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=100998
Ryan, Colin, and Wayne are back! Hopefully Greg Proops and Brad Sherwood will be, too. I will miss Drew as a host, but I guess it's worth giving a shot. 2011's 'Improv-A-Ganza!' as a 'spiritual successor' just couldn't live up to what Whose Line was all about, despite having almost all of the same comedians. Hopefully this reboot remains true to the Whose Line style.

Yeah I heard about this too.
Suddenly TV is going to be good again. Well, at least better. |

People were talking about this but I never put two and two together.
I think they should make Colin the host...yeah it's a pity Drew won't be back, but he's moved on to better things, and he could always guest appearance on it. They need new games, and the artists need to gain some more exposure to newer movies, media, etc. I felt that in the previous seasons, they'd rely too much on canned running gags or old references to shows. Fresh, fresh, fresh material with the old cast would be tremendous. Every repost is a riposte

Greg Proops was my favorite fourth by a mile, though a lot of that fondness may come from being introduced to the show by the British version where he was on all the time.
Still, really excited for this.

Who else watched the two-episode premiere tonight? I was surprised at just how much it felt like the old show, but transplanted into a new, more polished skin. It's a pretty good start.
My one major complaint doesn't really have to do with the games or performers, but the format of the show itself. Is the practice of current half-hour network shows having four acts common? It's disarming to come back from a commercial break, have a two or three-minute game take place, and boom, commercial break again, three acts in a row. It'll take some getting used to.

Yeah, that's a pretty common thing on network TV. ABC Family aired (airs?) old episodes of Whose Line at midnight and did this all of the time, too. They'd come back, do an act for three minutes, and go right back to commercial. It was really hard to watch and was incredibly annoying. If the show is 21-23 minutes long, why can't they just show all of their commercials in bulk during one or two breaks? Dividing it up between 4 breaks makes no sense to me and just serves to annoy the viewer. I guess they figure if they show one or two breaks, the viewer might leave the room. If they show it more than that then the viewer will have a higher percentage of actually seeing the commercials. It makes sense from a business standpoint but I really hate it, it's one reason I don't ever watch TV anymore.

Robin Williams was surprisingly good when he appeared on Whose Line, but Wayne is awesome simply because his singing elevates him over the other players who can't do it as well.

It's been renewed for a second season which will be 24 full episodes, really exciting news.

I've been watching Whose Line starting from the first episode of the UK series. Right now I'm at season 4, and it has been a pretty fun ride. I didn't think I would be as attached to the cast as I am. Season 1 was kind of meh, with John Sessions being the only one to really make me laugh until Mike McShane made his appearance. Season 2 improved quite a bit, since everyone started getting comfortable (the Christmas special was amazing). Eventually I looked forward to any episode with Mike McShane, Sandi Toksvig, Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence, or even Tony Slattery (god damn I've gotten fond of his forced foul humor). The current American regulars are still new at the point where I'm at, so they're still adjusting.
I haven't watched any of the current season, and I've almost completely forgotten what the American series is like (my only memory of it is the jingle on the hoedown). |

The new season is pretty good, although I find it sad Drew isn't hosting it anymore (too busy with The Price is Right, of what I heard), I really felt he was a big part of the humor. It's going to play again tonight, but unfortunately I'll be only limited to watch it through YouTube/whatever from now on since the household tv is "fully booked", both from watching and recording ;-;
