Kei was moved by the support of his trainer, his colleagues, and his newfound friend in Stufful. As the big blubbery Makuhita flexed before him, the Charmander rose back to his feet and prepared to get himself back into the fight. His previous strategy had been less than successful, so now would be a good time for a change in tactics. Thinking up a new plan, Kei readied to lull the sumo wrestler Pokemon into a false sense of security before springing his trap.

As the next round of battle began, Kei started things off by slashing the air with his claws and spinning around cutely, shaking his flame-tipped tail in the process. The Swords Dance boosted his confidence greatly and pumped himself up physically as well, ready for combat. While this was unfolding, Makuhita sighed and ignored it, choosing to Focus his Energy instead. Once the two Pokemon were done preparing themselves, they squared off once again, much to the delight of Timburr and the Mankeys who wanted to see some action.

Kei dashed forward, ready to unleash his assault on the Makuhita. He shot forward an Ember which bounced harmlessly off of Makuhita’s Thick Fat. As he predicted, Makuhita smirked and took the bait, coming in close to Tackle Kei with his blobby belly. Luckily, Kei was ready for this and stood his ground. As the Makuhita was about to collide with him, Kei thrust a palm upward, clocking Makuhita in the chin with a Brick Break. The onlookers gasped in shock at the turn of events and Makuhita stumbled backwards surprised by the strike. With his opponent thrown off balance, Kei followed up his strike with a big Scratch across the chest.

Makuhita’s demeanor turned from cocky to serious in a hurry and glared down at Kei through slanted eyes. “Maku!” he cried out, planting his feet and Thrusting his Arms forward. His thrusts connected with Kei three times, pushing the Charmander backwards. Kei took a deep breath and prepared to blast the Makuhita in order to make up for his failed attempt before. However, Makuhita had other plans, scooping up some dirt and dust from the floor of the ring and threw a Sand Attack right in Kei’s eyes. Kei yelped, putting his hands over his eyes just as he shot out a Dragon Pulse, just barely grazing Makuhita’s shoulder.

With his vision now obstructed, Kei was in a bit of a bind even though he had the advantage in terms of health. Makuhita growled, rubbing his sore shoulder and prepared to take advantage of Kei’s sudden disability. Pulling back his other arm that wasn’t sore, Makuhita loomed over Kei, ready to unleash a Force Palm. What will Kei do?

Teddiursa was a mess. His fur was sticky and covered in berry juice, and his cheeks were stained with tears. He helplessly prodded the now berryless picnic basket while squashed berries littered the grass around him. As Elka and Pascal finally caught up to him, Elka could see that his tears were genuine this time. Catching her breath, Elka’s expression softened out of pity for the distraught cub. Hoping to console the Teddiursa, she offered to help him by picking some new berries.

Upon hearing her offer, Teddiursa’s ears perked up. No translation was needed, as he looked up at Elka with big round eyes. Teddiursa sniffled and wiped his nose with his paw, revealing a smile in response to Elka’s kindness. He felt a little ashamed now; having run away from his rescuer. “Teddi?” he asked, wondering if Elka’s offer was for real. With a quick nod from Pascal to confirm, the cub happily grinned. He reached into his picnic basket and pulled out a pamphlet that was stuck on the inside of the container. Unfurling the pamphlet, Teddiursa held it out wide for Elka to see.

It was a travel guide from the Tourism Bureau of Galea Town. Most of the areas featured on the brochure included various areas of the foothills of the mountain, including the Rose Garden, best picnic areas of the Galea Plains, fishing spots along the Starline River, and hiking trails of the Cloud Forest. Last but not least, Teddiursa pointed to a specific area on the pamphlet. “Come visit Oran Orchard and partake in the berry harvest! While you’re there, enjoy a slice of Belue Berry Pie!” it read, showing a picture of a quaint farm and rows of bountiful berry trees. While it would be a short trek across the plains to get to the berry farm, this was clearly Elka’s best lead at acquiring some berries. What will she do?

Things were looking dicey as Karrablast’s Fury Cutter continued to grow in power at a rapid pace. Jayson knew that he needed to finish the beetle off quickly or else it could really spell trouble for Spartacus and Trieu. Taking Karrablast’s ability into account, he thought up a strategy to counter it as quickly as possible and called it out to his two bug Pokemon. The Scyther and Skorupi nodded and prepared themselves as they squared off against their opponents.

Spartacus locked eyes with the Karrablast, who baited itself and its opponent into a slug-it-out No Guard battle of the wills to see who could take the most punishment. The Scyther, fueled by the memories of all that he and his trainer had been through over the course of their journey together, looked to Return his trainer’s trust by channeling all of his power into a strike. Spartacus rammed into Karrablast hard, hitting it for considerable damage. However, the beetle returned the blow in favor with a powerful Fury Cutter, this one Spartacus most definitely felt.

Meanwhile, Kricketot found itself in a helpless position. His rescuer was being pushed to the limit and surely wouldn’t last much longer. In a sudden act of desperation, Kricketot fired off a Struggle Bug, small green bursts of Bug energy knocking back Trieu as she Leered at him angrily. Kricketot then leapt forward with a sudden burst of speed, passing directly into a cloud of dust created by his previous attack.

As Spartacus reared up his scythe for his next attack, Karrablast had no choice left but to break its stance. Spartacus’ energy which was previously fueled by pleasant memories with his trainer suddenly turned dark as he recalled some of the horrors that they experienced in a region known as Bedlam Ridge. Karrablast’s Fury Cutter faded away as his horn shrunk back to normal proportions and ceased its glow. Karrablast closed its eyes and braced itself, hoping it could Endure whatever Spartacus was about to dish out. Mind clouded over by memories of gutting a Ribs grunt in Bedlam, Spartacus lunged forward, ready to finish his foe with a menacing Shadow Break.

Anticipating an attack, Karrablast opened its eyes to find Spartacus locking blades with a tall, slender figure. With long, pointed arms, a red exoskeleton, and a glorious twirled moustache, the rescued had now become the rescuer as Kricketune intercepted Spartacus’ attack. Kricketune’s eye twinkled, indicating to Karrablast that he would handle the Scyther from here, leaving Trieu in his care. Karrablast nodded and turned to face the Skorupi, who wasn’t pleased at being left behind. Karrablast darted forward, Pecking her hard with his horn, while Trieu countered by jabbing him in the side with a Poison Sting from her tail. The two finished things off by exchanging blows once more, another Peck by Karrablast for Trieu’s Poison Sting. Karrrablast winced, as the final strike by Trieu seemed to have Poisoned it. Both Pokemon breathed heavily as they neared the end of their endurance.

Meanwhile, Spartacus faced off against Kricketune, both bugs seemingly ready to go although Spartacus was still reeling quite a bit from that last Fury Cutter. Unfortunately for him, it was not the last he had seen of that attack as Kricketune’s pointed arms began to glow. As Kricketune swiped him for a light Fury Cutter, the Scyther countered by sinking his teeth into his new opponent with a Bug Bite. As the battle unfolded, things were getting a bit out of hand from Jayson’s calculations. How would he adjust?

Jayson couldn't believe it. He thought he had two week Bug types lined up, a nice easy training battle that wouldn't give them too many issues. Although as luck would have it, not only did he manage to fish out a rare Karrablast with its exploitable hidden ability, he now found himself up against a freshly evolved Kricketune. This was an issue, Kricketune was much more threatening than its pre-evolution, he couldn't just ignore it while he finished off the Karrablast.

Trieu found herself up against the Karrablast now. While the opposing bug was powerful, it was surely worn out from its exchange with Spartacus. Coupled with the poison the Skorupi had just inflicted, Jayson was confident the young bug could do enough to put the Karrablast to rest."Time to toughen up Trieu! Feint Attack and then a Bite on the Karrablast, another Bite if it is still conscious."

With Trieu looking to put down the Karrablast, Spartacus was left to spar with the newly evolved Kricketune. Jayson wasn't sure just exactly how much longer the Kricketune could last, it had just taken some nasty hits, including a Shadow move which would have been Super Effective. If it wasn't clear before than it was now, these Bug types meant business and he couldn't afford to take it easy."Roost Spartacus, then go for another Bug Bite before going in for the finishing blow, Shadow Break!" It hurt Jayson to be relying on the Shadow move but he knew Spartacus understood the need.

While you deliberated, you felt and overwhelming sense of shame. There was no way you could stop now, you were Rorik! A man of science! You were going to see this pursuit through, for both you and your Pokemon. Staryu wasn’t quite sure what was on your mind, but it seemed to take note that you were distressed. It appreciated the affectionate tap you gave to its gem, and shined brightly with a warm light.

The two of you slowly traversed the torch-lined hallway, the sound of dripping water getting ever louder. The path gradually became wider, and soon opened up into a large room. Torches still lined the walls, providing plenty of light for you to see your surroundings. Stalactites made of glittering rock clung to the ceiling in the center of the room. Water droplets formed at their tips, and dripped slowly into a shallow pool. The cave water was being enjoyed by the Bunnelby you were after. The Pokemon lapped at the water, taking a rest after all the running it had done. Its back was turned to you, and it was quite invested in their re-hydration. The piece of paper it was carrying was placed next to it. It was a bit unfurled and you could just barely see markings on the inside surface of it. You and Staryu were far enough away at the moment to remain unnoticed, but the Bunnelby’s ears were rather sensitive to sound.
The journey across the cave was as silent as it was uneventful. Although Rorik could feel his connection with Staryu growing stronger with each obstacle they overcame, there was no denying the starfish was… admittedly a poor conversational partner. The Professor’s hope was that, in due time, the Pokémon would achieve evolution and heighten its Psychic powers enough to allow for some sort of mental communication, but even that was a long shot. Not all was bad though; clearly Staryu possessed a wonderfully inquisitive spirit, ready to follow Rorik in his investigations no matter where they took him – an almost overpowering instinct to seek out new discoveries, new truths, answers to whatever enigmas brewed in its Analytic mind. Save for the fact that it didn’t speak, the Water-Type was pretty much any scientist’s perfect companion.

Their quest for the runaway Bunnelby finally led them to a wide, humid cave with water in abundance and a magnificent collection of perfectly preserved stalactites, geological wonders that many an entrepreneur would be quick to try and capitalize on – and yet here these were, unadulterated, undiscovered…perfect.

Wait…

Rorik’s attention abruptly shifted from the cave’s ceiling to the center of the makeshift lake at the center of the cavern, where a Bunnelby took a much-needed bath.

What is going on here? First it’s running for its life, and now it just casually turns its back to the pursuer and drops the paper like it doesn’t matter?

All of this was much too strange for Rorik to wrap his head around. The multiplying rabbits back at the forest, the riddle game turned catch turned hide-and-seek (a game within a game within a game, what some self-professed humorous folk would call… “Gameception”?) , and finally this mysterious cave, so thoroughly illuminated by torches and yet seemingly untouched by human hands…

Well, it doesn’t matter. I came here for that paper – hopefully if I can get to the bottom of that mystery, all other pieces will fall into place.

The note was there, left unattended by the Bunnelby while it bathed. Making a run for it would likely be fruitless, as the herbivore would definitely hear Rorik coming from a mile away. No, they had to be stealthy about this… and the Professor knew exactly what to do.

A single Thunderbolt aimed at the pool would likely be enough to fry that Bunnelby, but I have no right to harm it, let alone while it has its back turned; no real man from Heiml would do such a thing. But there is another way.

“Staryu, listen closely,” he whispered while dropping to one knee next to his partner. “I need you to Minimize and get close to that note without being detected. In your miniature state you should be able to get close without making noise. When you’ve reached the paper, relay its contents to me with a Psywave!”

He’d tried this strategy before, with resounding success, during the War of the Roses waged by the rulers of Cloud Garden. Hopefully they could pull it off a second time, especially now that Staryu was considerably more accustomed to moving about in a shrunken form…

Meetan – Even after telling off Cruella and getting that last word in, she seemed to not be paying attention anymore and everything seemed to go by pretty fast after that. It wasn’t even very long ago that you had three things going on all at once so the fact that everyone has cleared out is a relief but you still have priorities in mind. You pocket your rewards and begin to head for your first destination, the cabin located in the nearby plains. As you make your way out there, the sounds of children on field trips, families having picnics, and Pokemon playing slowly begin to fade.

You have arrived in the Galea Plains, which really didn’t take much effort considering the river is located right along the edge of it. It’s a lot quieter out here and certainly less crowded, as you walk you can see the roof of the cabin in the distance peeking out over one of the many hills so you begin to make your way over there. One thing you do notice is that the Furfrou doesn’t appear to have left any trace of where exactly she went. This area is very open but the many hills would easily hide her if she is on the opposite side of one. The only thing you do know, is that you have somewhat of an idea which direction she had originally ran and looking at the cabin’s location, it’s probably to the east of it somewhere.

You get a full view of the cabin as you finally reach the top of the last hill that was separating you from it. The cabin is pretty standard as far as cabins go but one thing you notice is that there is a Skiddo repeatedly ramming its horns into the side of it. You pause for a moment to watch and it isn't long before it notices you and gives you one of those “What are you looking at?” kind of looks before it rolls its eyes and continues to ram into the cabin. You head inside and are greeted by a very attractive male ranger with a perfect smile. “Hello there, beautiful. I’m very happy you’ve decided to stop by, my name is Ivan. I hope you’ve been enjoying you’re stay in the Cloud Garden so far, I know I certainly love it here. Are your Pokemon hurt? I can heal them for you. Any Pokemon belonging to a woman such as yourself deserve the best treatment after all.” He takes your Pokemon into the back and you wait, at this point it’s hard to tell if he has some sort of hidden agenda or if he’s just like that. Right now, you seem to be the only other person inside of this cabin so it’s not like there is another employee you can ask. He eventually returns with your Pokemon and gives them back to you all while still having that perfect smile on his face. “You can rest here as long as you like, I wouldn’t want you pushing yourself too hard. We have guest rooms upstairs if you would like, if the door is open then it means it’s unoccupied so feel free to help yourself to a room.” He begins to walk back around the desk and then the slight banging from outside becomes audible. “I guess that Skiddo is at it again. It has been doing that on and off all day which is very out of character for its species. I’ve gone out there a few times in an attempt to communicate with it but it just wasn’t having it so I don’t really know what to do about the little guy. Oh well, I hope you enjoy your stay no matter how long or short it may be.” He then takes a seat in the chair behind the desk and begins to play on his phone.

--------------------

Slash – Finally, you’ve made it to the Stone Shrine and it was just as the sun was beginning to set too. You had heard a lot about this place back in the town you had stopped at on your way here so you filled your companion, Caprina, in on all of the details. This caused her enthusiasm to waver for a moment as she thought that maybe this place is a bit scarier than she was prepared for. However, after some reassurance, she became her happy self once again and you picked her up in your arms and began to carry her down the path. The sun seemed to be setting rapidly and it’s not long before you begin to feel uneasy, you can’t shake the fact that you think there is movement in the distance somewhere. But, in order to not let on that you’re feeling uncomfortable, you begin to quicken your pace while doing your best to make it seem natural.

*Thump… Thump… Thump…*

Just as you’re about to reach a pair of large stones, you hear a slow thumping sound coming from behind you and each time you hear the noise it sounds like it’s closer than the one before it. You quickly reach the stones for cover and turn around in order to see the source of the sound, however, the moment you turn around it suddenly becomes very dark. The setting sun could not have had worse timing to completely set. Now the only thing that is illuminating your surroundings is the moon. Looking down the path behind you, you can’t seem to make out anything out of the ordinary and of course that thumping sound has completely stopped. You squint, hoping that something might stand out to you but it all just looks like a lot of open space and stones of different sizes. Suddenly, there is a low rumbling growl behind you and you immediately spin around and are met with a pair of red brightly glowing eyes not even 3 feet away from you! As soon as your eyes meet those red ones, the thumping sound begins to sound again and it still seems to be behind you only now, it’s much closer than before. Just as adrenaline is about to kick in, a pair of torches that are decorating either side of the path suddenly light up with a pair of flames and a petite teenager with long black hair wearing a red and white hakama is standing between them while looking at you with a small smile. “Alright you two, you’ve had enough fun.”

“Bink bink!” Now, when you look back down the path you see a giggling Carbink hovering about 10 feet away. They must have been the one creating that thumping sound behind you. Turning back toward the red eyes from earlier you can see a midnight form Lycanroc who is still just standing there staring at you, at least it stopped growling. “My apologies, we couldn’t help but overhear your conversation earlier and my Pokemon couldn’t resist having a little fun.” The girl lets out a small chuckle before she continues. “I enjoy hearing about the rumors related to the shrine, but I assure you, there is nothing you have to worry about.” As if it was intentionally timed, as soon as she finishes that sentence there is suddenly an extremely high-pitched screeching sound that seems to echo from a cave nearby. The sound is so loud you almost feel the need to cover your ears yet the girl just continues to stand there with a perfect formal posture without seeming bothered in the slightest. After the sound finally stops, she continues to speak. “Hm. No matter, I shall proceed with introductions. My name is Madoka Ishi and I am the shrine maiden here as well as the trial captain. Would you perhaps be here in order to challenge the trial? I run my trials during both the day and night, if you would like we could start right now or you could rest up in the local cabin and we can start in the morning. Or perhaps, you’re just here to explore the shrine, you’re welcomed to do that as well. Either way, you’re also welcome to use the cabin if you’d like.”

You traverse back through the low visibility and are relieved when you can start seeing more than three feet in front of you again. Berue led the way, having an answer the two of you felt was the most fitting. You soon came upon the oasis which was fairly populated with people and Pokemon alike. Some noticed you as a participant of the War of the Roses and gave you a wave. The water of the oasis sparkled brightly, and as your feet touched the soft sand of its shore you were almost blinded by the reflection of the sun.

“PI PI PIPI!” A loud beep came from your left. You see a person crouched next to you, holding two rods in their hands. A beam of light came from each, forming an X right over your shoe. The device had alerted its owner to your partially buried foot in the sand, and was beeping away at its finding.

“Oh…Sorry,” The woman stopped digging in the sand around your foot. She stood and squinted at you. She wore an orange sweater that looked much too hot for this weather. “I lost my glasses…and it looks like a lot of other people lost things here as well. Or maybe they were placed here? I don’t know. Anyway, I’ll get out of your way…” She sadly began to walk away, the rods in her hands returning to a steady pattern of beeps. After a few steps, the rods direct her to another spot where she digs up an empty Potion bottle. Politely, she covers the item back up, creating a mound of sand. Now that you took more of a look around, you could see that she had created several of these mounds where she had found something other than her glasses and tried to return it to its place.
The Oasis was exactly like one would expect such a place to be like in its natural environment: vibrant and full of life. People and pokemon covered many an otherwise empty space, bright plants that somehow seemed greener than the ones in the jungle (though that may have just been the fog messing with her memory), the warm sand shimmering in the sun... and the gently rolling waves doing the exact same thing to a much higher degree. Having just spent what was likely around half an hour at least in both fog and shade, neither human nor tangrowth was at all prepared to have sunlight suddenly get reflected straight into the backs of their retinas with far greater precision than the lasers the white-clad soldiers in that one movie series shot!

Of course, that wasn't the only thing remotely wrong that occurred at that time. Chroma found herself a little flabbergasted as her eyes slowly came to stop burning like mad. How did her foot trigger this lady's metal detectors, exactly? There weren't some sort of metal plates tucked into the soles of her shoes, right? Honestly, you just can't trust big name clothing brands anymore...

At least the lady realized there was a mistake before she tried anything like stabbing the business end of a shovel into the offending footwear. Evidently, she had lost her glasses and was having an awfully rough time of finding them again- the whole beach was littered with sandpiles where she had reburied any debris that was decidedly not her lenses. And while it was technically possible that all of those piles were merely trash, her riddle did lead her to this place of all possibilities- her next step was likely hidden in one of them!

Most people would probably despair at the thought of having to sift through every pile just to find a silly little sheet of paper, but Chroma was pretty confident that she had the solution to this inconvenience. "Excuse me, everyone, may I have your attention? I'm about to do something that could make the place a bit shaky for a moment, so please be sure to brace yourselves now!" She counted to five in her head, then commanded Berue to use Nature Power- in this sandy terrain, it was going to turn into either Earthquake or Earth Power, both of which were moves that would likely unbury the materials the chick in the orange sweater had recently stuck beneath the surface. And who knows, maybe her glasses would come up in the process?

He quickly gives his Pokemon commands and you do the same, it seems that you both have completely different ideas of who should be fighting who but that doesn’t matter to any of the Pokemon since they are going to do as they are told regardless. Scyther begins to take a deep breath in order to Focus Energy and pump himself up but his concentration is broken when Wildfire dives at him with Aerial Ace, scratching him up quite a bit. The Scyther considers trying again but sees that Wildfire is now Rolling toward him, knowing that there is no time to focus he moves on and Slashes at Wildfire, his original target was supposed to be Signal but he had no choice if he wanted to defend himself. Both attacks collide awkwardly and Scyther is thrown back against a tree, the slash caused Wildfire to stop rolling because the blade went across his back painfully, he seems to be doing pretty well still regardless.

Scyther shakes off the impact, it hurt but he’s still pretty fired up and he was told to do a double attack which means he still had one more for Signal. As Scyther dives in to attack, Signal goes to use Soak on Papi but his aim is disrupted by Scyther jumping in front of him and Slashing him directly with a critical hit. He did manage to Soak Scyther in the process but that hit really hurt. Still standing, Signal jumped out of the way of Scyther blocking his target and then let off a Charge Beam hitting his intended target, Papi. This move of course had no effect since the Pokemon was also a ground type and he wasn’t the one that ended up getting soaked like originally planned. The boy begins to laugh at Signal’s mistake since he is clearly a bit twisted. You then ask him why he is setting the forest on fire and he laughs even harder. “Do I need a reason? Also, last I checked I wouldn’t be telling you anything even if I had one.”

Now that all of the other Pokemon have done some battling, Papi decides it’s finally his turn to act. He uses Aqua Ring to cover himself in water in case he needs to heal at any point, which right now he doesn’t. Then he takes a nice deep breath and begins to shoot a Beam of Bubbles right at Wildfire who attempts to jump out of the way but still gets hit in the end. He tumbles and is now quite wet, the bubbles really hurt him but he still manages to stand back up looking ready for more. “I have this in the bag. Papi, use Supersonic on that Chinchou so it doesn’t bother you. Then hit the other target with lots of Muddy Water! Scyther, use two more Slashes on that Chinchou!”
Wildfire managed to prevent the Scyther from Focusing its Energy with Aerial Ace and they exchanged successful hits, though the Scyther didn't hit Wildfire as hard as Wildfire hit it. It got to its feet quickly enough to intercept Signal's Soak and land a critical Slash, which...okay, that sucked. And, without a successful Soak, Signal's Charge Beam grounded out for nothing. Because Ground-type. The kid started laughing at Signal's mistake, which distracted her Chinchou and had him blinking 'confusion'.

"Do I need a reason?" the kid replied, laughing harder at her question. "Also, last I checked I wouldn't be telling you anything even if I had one."

Melissa shrugged, though her eyes narrowed at him. "Doesn't hurt to try asking, does it?"

The Palpitoad covered itself with water and then shot a Bubblebeam at Wildfire, who...didn't manage to dodge it quick enough. Still, he managed to get back to his feet, shaking himself a bit to try to get rid of some of the water.

"I have this in the bag. Papi, use Supersonic on that Chinchou so it doesn't bother you. Then hit the other target with lots of Muddy Watter! Scyther, use two more Slashes on that Chinchou!"

Melissa frowned and hummed thoughtfully. "Signal, Charge Beam the Scyther and then Shock Wave. Wildfire, let's hope Naturepower gives us an advantage here. Hit that Palpitoad twice."

That should be more effective than the last round, but she was ready to pull out someone else, if things took a turn for the worst.

Alice was dreading the amount of hills involved, especially in this heat. She didn't really have any Pokemon who were suited to carrying her around, at least comfortably and for a long time. She supposed she could make use of Axel's teleport once he was healed up, but that might prove risky and it wouldn't exactly help them properly track Furfrou, probably.

She blinked at the sight of the Skiddo, tempted to engage it until it gave her a look. Best not, and so the trainer moved into the cabin. Ivan was certainly a talker, which Alice could relate to, although his low-key (yet glaringly obvious) flirting was both amusing and cringeworthy. The trainer said nothing of her Cloud Garden experience so far - not that it was easy to get a word in edgeways anyhow - and simply handed over her party to be healed.

While that was being done, the young woman withdrew a new outfit from the PC, sliding off into the nearby bathrooms to get changed. Pink cropped top was exchanged for a cutout in black and white, her white trainers - now a bit stained - replaced with sturdier, lace up walking boots that stopped at the ankle. She brushed her hair back into a fluffy ponytail, hoping that it would keep it from her face on the windier plains, and returned not long before her Pokemon were given back.

Minnie the mouse was decidedly going into the PC, which Alice navigated as Ivan yammered on some more, putting her previous outfit into storage and changing up her party members just a little for the upcoming task. At talk of the Skiddo, though, Alice's hearing piqued. "I'll go and check them out in a minute and see if I can help. By the way, did you see or hear anything of a runaway Furfrou? Pedigree, but its fur is a state because of a battle. Its trainer was nasty and ditched it, so she ran away, but I'm trying to find her before she gets herself more hurt." She explained. "She can't have been going much more than twenty minutes now at most. And if you do find out anything, or find her, could you bring her back here and heal her? She'll probably not come back easy, though. Oh, and I'm Alice Hope, by the way."

Elka watched as the small bear pulled out some sort of pamphlet from the bottom of it's picnic basket, she had to assume that it was either resting at the bottom of the basket when the bear stole it or that the bear had simply found it. Elka wasn't positive that the bear could understand english, but it seemed to know that there were all sorts of berries at this Oran Orchard it wished to go to. Elka knew that it was absolutely her best option for getting berries for the young cub, letting a smile creep it's way across her face.

"You want to go there, huh? Well I don't see why not, we can do some berry picking of our own while we're there." She smiled at Pascal, who tried his best to explain that Elka would indeed come with the small bear to the Oran Orchard and help the little tyke get some berries of it's own. Pascal then glanced at the plains, his brown paws were also stained with berry juice from walking it the muck that the bear had accidentally sprayed about. He lifted a paw and licked it, tasting a tart and bitter substance from the purple berry juice that was now matting his fur. He looked towards Elka, who seemed to be looking around trying to figure out her best course of action to get to the Orchard. She knew that there were very few berries in the plains, but she also knew that walking was kind of a pain.

"Well, let's get going gang." She spoke, allowing Pascal to lead the way. The small Eevee stuck his nose to the air and attempted to sniff out the way to the farm, he picked up on some sort of strong sent of all sorts of blended berries and the smell of fresh pie. He looked towards his trainer and the Teddiursa and began to lead the way, forcing Elka to follow as she clung her dominant hand to his leash. He knew the bear would follow behind as well, those berries were really the only things that were keeping it around. He had to admit, he admired Elka's kindness. She had such a strong heart despite her weak legs, a heart of gold to say the least. She looked down at the Eevee and smiled, she loved when he took the lead so confidently.

"Alright Teddiursa, Pascal. To the Oran Orchard we go!" Elka stuck her arm in the air as if to cheer, and then quickened her pace upon her crutches.

Melissa – After reading your clue you turn around to see that Vine appears to be quite bothered by the Sudowoodo although you aren’t sure why. You decide to pick up Vine and carry him away from the Pokemon that seems to bother him so much before settling down and going over the riddle with him once again. You both seem to agree that water is the answer to this one and decide that it’d probably be best to split up this time in order to cover more ground. Vine runs off to another area of the garden as you begin to search the vases in this area while wondering whether the next clue is going to be dry or not.

You try your best to thoroughly search these vases as you carefully shift the flowers around and peek inside. The inside of each vase is very dark and the flowers create even more of a shadow so you aren’t even sure whether or not you’re just missing it because it’s hard to see. You are also making sure to check each individual flower just in case it’s mixed in with them. You look the outside of the vases over but they are way too heavy for you to move easily so you hope that it’s not hidden underneath one of them. After looking through your third vase, you hear a loud crash from nearby and turn your head toward it. There is a girl who appears to be in her teens standing next to a very large vase that has fallen over and is now split completely in half. “Oh no!!” The girl begins to frantically gather the flowers that had fallen out of the vase back together. Vine heard the crash and quickly runs back to your area in order to make sure you’re alright. You approach the girl and at this point she has pulled some super glue out of her purse and is lining the broken edge of one half with the glue. After she finishes applying glue, she begins to bring the halves together but seems to be struggling to hold them together long enough for the glue to set due to the weight of such a large vase. “Come onnnn! I have to fix this! I don’t want to be the person that ruins such a pretty garden…” She seems to be having a really hard time but you notice that on top of the flowers that she had gathered next to her, is a pink envelope inside of a sealed Ziploc bag.

Please post your reply by September 3rd. Please continue to use the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of this round.
Melissa tried her best to search the vases, carefully shifting flowers around and leaning over to look straight down the vase as best she could without a flashlight. That was a thought: Signal would've been very helpful here, but one Pokémon per round and Vine didn't know Flash. She also made sure to check every flower, just in case it was somehow tangled up in the leaves, and then the outside of the vase, in case Peony might've hidden it under the vases. It looked too heavy to move easily, though, so she was going to assume it wasn't there unless neither she nor Vine could find it on their first go around.

She had just finished looking over her third vase when there was a loud crash nearby and she couldn't help jumping at the sudden break in the atmosphere. Turning to see what'd happened, Melissa spotted a teenage girl who looked to have accidentally tipped a vase over and broken it. Which, what did she do, lean on it? Melissa wasn't entirely sure how the girl would've tipped the vase over otherwise.

The girl frantically began gathering the flowers together as Vine darted over to the scene, glancing around to figure out what had happened and make sure Melissa was fine. When he saw she was, he slowed and shot the teen a grumpy look, assuming the other girl was the cause of the noise.

Melissa headed over to see if there was anything she could do the help, figuring that their clue wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon, but the teen seemed to have things well in hand. Melissa immediately lent a hand when the other girl seemed to be having trouble holding the two halves together long enough for the super glue to set, announcing her presence with a "Here. Lemme help you."

Vine, in the mean time, looked over the flowers the girl had gathered, immediately spotting the envelope in a Ziploc lying on top. He grabbed it and pulled it away from where Melissa and the girl were putting the vase back together, planning on giving it to Melissa once the vase was put back together.

Jessica – Lilac’s song was a total hit for the Azurill who seemed to have forgotten that it was upset in the first place with how happy it looked dancing along with the melody. After the Azurill is gone, you take a moment to inspect the pretty stones that it was sitting on top of and it doesn’t take you long at all to find the clue you had been searching for. After reading it, you’re a bit frustrated that this riddle seems to be even more vague than the last but you do at least seem to find a solution of some kind rather quickly, though you’re a bit doubtful. Once you’re done thinking it over you decide to stick with the answer you came up with and begin exploring the benches of the area, hoping that you’ll find something before you’re forced to resort to asking the Queen herself if you are allowed to search her throne. Cringing at that thought, you put it in the back of your mind and proceed to the first bench you see.

The first bench is in a small clearing on your way back toward the entrance. You carefully look through the small flowerbed that is set up behind the bench with no luck and then examine the bench directly. You don’t find anything that stands out so you decide to continue along the path until you finally reach the wide-open entrance that has a few benches surrounding a large flower display in the center. As you arrive, you are careful about staying out of the way of a couple of gardeners with leaf blowers who are gathering leaves that have been carried over here on the wind from other sections of the garden. Once you are clear of their space, you glance around the area and one of the benches stands out to you immediately, and that is because a sign of some sort is placed in front of it, it’s surrounded by caution tape, and a man is also standing by it. Since it’s the only bench in this area that stands out to you at first glance, you decide you should probably check over there first and begin to approach. Once you are close, you can see that the sign says “Wet Paint” which explains the caution tape, probably to make sure people notice the sign and keep their distance from it as it dries. This bench does stand out but not for the reason you were hoping and you prepare to search another bench but then something catches your eye. There is a pink envelope sitting directly underneath the bench, looks like this is the place you were looking for after all. You can tell that as long as you’re careful, you can easily grab that envelope without disturbing the wet paint on the bench.

You prepare yourself to cross the caution tape but the man who was standing nearby notices what you’re about to do and approaches. “Sorry miss, I’m not letting anyone near this bench until this paint is dry. The last time I painted a bench and left it alone someone ignored the sign and sat directly on it and guess who had to come back to work after their shift was over in order to fix it? That’s right, me. I am not about to miss out on the season finale of Game of Throh’s because of somebody deciding that out of all the benches that this park has to offer, the one surrounded by caution tape is the place their going to sit. No way. Not going to happen tonight.” The guard continues to ramble on about how the last time this happened it caused him to miss the season premiere of Dancing with the Staryu’s and you aren’t even sure if he’s still talking to you or just himself at this point but one thing that is very clear is that this man has no intention of letting you anywhere near that bench anytime soon.

Please post your reply by September 3rd. Please continue to use the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of this round.
Though they thoroughly inspected every inch, the first bench they searched didn't turn up anything unusual. Thus they moved back along the path towards the main entrance, where more potential places to investigate were parked. As they carefully sidestepped the whirlwind of leaves being circulated about, they scanned the area to immediately spot a single site that stood out: a placard propped prominently in front with a man stationed next to it, and caution tape surrounding on all sides.

Upon approach, Jess distinguished the sign clearly read: "Wet Paint", hence the warning yellow ribbons. At first she figured it was just a coincidence and not anything particularly noteworthy, and was about to pass on by when Lilac tugged at her pants leg, pointing at something below the bench (made more easily visible by her "down-to-earth" point of view). Jess bent down a bit to peer underneath and spied the corner of a pink envelope poking shyly out. Aha. Jackpot.

As she attempted to draw near however, the guard advanced to block her progress.

"Sorry miss, I’m not letting anyone near this bench until this paint is dry. The last time I painted a bench and left it alone someone ignored the sign and sat directly on it and guess who had to come back to work after their shift was over in order to fix it?"

Before she could form a response, he went on to answer his own (apparently rhetorical) question, and proceeded to pratter incessantly about having to miss his precious TV programs because of hooligans who couldn't follow simple directions. As Jess listened to his long-winded speech carry on, she and Lilac glanced at each other, giving simultaneous looks of exasperation. When the man mentioned "Dancing With the Staryu's" though, an idea occurred to Jess.

"Mister, if you like dancing, my Petilil here's a pretty good dancer herself," Jess quickly cut in before he could continue. "She's descended from gypsies and knows all sort of traditional folk dance. Would you like to see a demonstration?"

She turned to Lilac - or Lotus, rather - and nodded, granting permission to play her GRASSWHISTLE again, this time as accompaniment to her true talent. Untying her scarlet scarf, the plant Pokémon curtsied as she prepared to utilize it as a streamer to enhance her "seductive appeal". With all the swirling foliage scattered about as well, they could make for convenient props to use in her performance. Hopefully, it would be enough to distract the sentry whilst her trainer snuck by to snag the next prize.

Alex – Even though it didn’t go exactly as planned, you were still able to get your hands on the next clue which is what really matters in the end. After assisting Pridwen by using leverage to pull the branch off of him, he begins to happily roll around without a single care about what just went down. Once you’re done cringing about the slight mess your Pokemon made, you start watching Pridwen again and his behavior helps you figure out the answer you’ve been looking for!

With the sign in mind, Pridwen begins to take the lead as he begins to head back toward the way you came. The Pokemon is quickly creating distance between you so you begin to take chase before losing sight of him. While on your way out of this section, you can’t help but notice that your teammate Lucas appears to currently be dealing with the very same Pansage you had trouble with earlier. Not wanting Pridwen to get away, you don’t have time to stop and help so you continue after the orb shaped Pokemon even passing your other teammate Rorik by the water fountain. You also take a moment to think about how strange it is that the gravel path was completely straight forward on your way back, didn’t you suffer through an entire maze on your way through the first time? Finally, Pridwen stops right in front of your target, the sign that tells guests that this is the way to Queen Lilligant’s throne room. There’s a lot of empty space around the words on this sign and there appears to be a woman trying to attach a piece of paper with a printed notice about construction to it with tape and they seem to be having a hard time getting it to stick. However, once you get a closer look, you see the envelope that you need sticking out of the sign at the top! As you go to approach in order to grab your envelope the woman drops her notice and bends down to pick it up right in front of you, blocking your way for a moment. When she stands back up she shifts so that now she is standing right in front of you as she continues to try and attach the notice. You attempt to go around her but she seems to have the most perfect timing with her movements, blocking you every time. Once she finally notices you, she gives you forced smile which shows that she is clearly a bit frustrated at the moment. “Sorry sir, I’ll be out of your way once I get this notice up. It’s important that guests are aware of the current construction going on in the garden so that they can plan accordingly.” After letting you know the situation, she turns back to the sign and continues to fail at getting that notice to stick.

Please post your reply by September 3rd. Please continue to use the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of this round.

The hunt seemed to be picking up pace as Alex passed by the blonde fellow, who appeared to be on the search for his next clue and towards the same thicket of trees the Pansage resided within, while Pridwen barrelled onwards, the human keeping up with the orb who was moving surprisingly fast despite his regular sessile behaviour. Was it excitement, or somthing else driving the Ferroseed? Alex knew not the answer, but hurried onwards, passing by the scientist again at a fountain, before something came to his attention, notably the straightness of the gravel path. Had he taken the long way round, perhaps? Pushing these thoughts aside, he finally caught up with the grass type, who had stopped before a large sign telling visitors the directions to Lilligant's throne room.

As the pair examined the sign, Alex noticed a woman struggling with a notice on the sign, trying to tape it onto the wood with little success, as well as the envelope he sought on top. What should be an easy reach however was thwarted as the woman dropped the notice, and continuously got in his way as he tried for the clue above. After a few moments of this, the woman took her own notice of Alex and he could see through her forced smile she was getting frustrated pinning the notice to the sign, before resuming her failed attempts. Alex knew the best course of action was to aid her, and he had a plan.

"If you need a hand, we can help out. My Ferroseed here can easily give a couple of spikes to pin that notice up with pin missile, and save you the hassle that tape's giving you. It's also waterproof, unlike tape which would wash off." Nodding to the thorn seed, the pokemon gave a wobble of acknowledgement, ready to help out the woman and expedite her departure to discover the next step in this scavenger hunt.

Heeding Petunia’s warning, Lucas slowly nodded and took the Rose Incense from the Roselia. It was time to make an exit before Roserade changed her mind and found out whatever Lilligant had planned. Following Lucas’ lead, Petunia and Horologie walked after him, slowly and calmly, thanking Roserade for her generosity. It wasn’t until after they were out of sight that the trio decided to pick up their pace southward. “We better hurry out of Roserade’s domain,” Petunia added, taking one last look back.

It wasn’t too long after walking through the neatly trimmed rose hedges that the group had arrived at the border of Roserade’s domain. Before them lay the familiar sight of sunflowers, rows and rows of them in fact. They were now finally back in the domain of Bellossom, where the flowerbeds were bright and filled with color. Lucas, Horologie, and Petunia hurried over back to where they had first met, at a nursery for young Sunkern while the protective Sunfloras watched over them.

Peering into the flowerbed, Lucas looked to make sure Budew was still doing alright. She continued to frown, having received deficient sunlight and water, but at least she was still alive. The Sunflora leaned forward as to block further view of the saplings. “Flora….” one of them called out menacingly, repeating their earlier warning for Lucas to keep away from their children. “Let’s try using that incense,” Petunia spoke up, offering advice. “If we can distract them long enough, I know a fountain nearby where we can get some water for Budew.”
At the suggestion of using the incense to distract the Sunflora, Lucas began formulating a plan. He would need to distract them without drawing too much attention to himself or his Pokémon, and that meant wafting the scent over the flower bed as gently as possible. He could try himself, but his flapping of arms would never rival the abilities of a Pokémon. However, the only one he had who could help was Violette, who was surely still tired from the battle...

He pondered the situation but saw no other option. Rifling through his bag, he pulled out a Berry Juice, prepared to serve it to her once she appeared from her ball. He would also need a bit of help getting the Budew out from there, as he was surely not going to be able to just lunge in and grab it. Horologie could surely help there. With his plan in place, he released Violette once again, who gave out a bit of a tired coo. Passing her the juice to drink, he began to explain his plan.

"Sorry, girl, for pulling you out again so soon, but we need your help. It's nothing too hard so I think you can manage! I'm going to set the incense we got from the Roserade Queen down over there," he said, pointing to an area a little ways away, "I want you to angle a suuuper gentle Icy Wind over the incense to blow its smoke and scent over the Sunflora without chilling them too much. While that's happening and they're distracted, Horologie, I want you to tug Budew out there with your Mindpower (Confusion). I'll be near the edge ready to catch her or tug her out if needed, but I'll need you to back me up if things go awry."

With the plan laid out, they all took positions, ready to pull the Budew to safety and take her to the nearby fountain for some triage A.S.A.P.

Lucas – Horologie made it very clear that she was not happy about that uninvited slap and her tail nearly bit the man’s hand off but thankfully, she missed. Meanwhile, after carefully opening the cement covered envelope you stand there for a few moments trying to figure out the answer to this next riddle. Eventually, you reach your answer and immediately know of a place that fits the description, calling Horologie to follow. She goes to do just that but takes a moment to get a little bit of revenge on the way. The man’s clipboard flies out of his hands and onto the wet cement just as she planned. “They’re ruined!” A voice yells out behind you.

As you go back the way you came, you pass the fountain you once searched which appears to now be getting repairs as well as your teammate Rorik whose attention seems to be fixed on the man at work. Deciding not to bother them, you continue on and follow the gravel path that leads toward the tree that you believe is your answer. The path was just as straight forward as the other path you took that had led you to the wet cement. As you approach the tree you notice an envelope sitting on the ground in the open right next to it. You walk up to it and bend down to grab the envelope when suddenly, it disappears! You stand back up and see a Pansage carrying the envelope as it begins to climb the tree, little do you know, this Pansage did this exact same thing to your teammate earlier. Only this time, things go a little differently for the mischievous monkey. Half way up the trunk the Pansage lets out a small squeak of pain before immediately climbing back down to your level. It places the envelope back onto the ground and then sits directly on top it with tears in its eyes while staring at one of its hands. It would seem that the Pansage is now experiencing a splinter of its very own, all while using the envelope you need as a seat.

Lucas gave Horologie a bit of an annoyed look as the man pitched over into the cement, figuring the giraffe had something to do with his sudden splat into the prints. Either way, the pair proceeded to their next destination. It didn't take long once again for them to find the next clue - but this time, it was stolen before they could get to it! A sneaky Pansage managed to swipe it before they could even get their hands on it, scrambling up one of the splintery trees. However, it quickly gets a splinter in its foot and scrambles back down to sit on the envelope and whine about its injury.Feeling a little frustrated with this rigmarole, Lucas grumbled a bit as he turned to Horologie to give her some instructions on how to retrieve the next clue.

"I guess we'll need to help this little thief if we're going to get our next clue," Lucas concluded with a bit of disdain, "Why don't you try out your Mindpower (aka Confusion) once more and see i you can't pull that little bit of wood out of the monkey's foot? Try not to actually yank it around though, and watch the envelope. If you must, you can also try to yank it out with your teeth, but let's try the first method before that."

Lucas readied himself to retrieve the envelope as soon as he could, kneeling down to its level, or at least when the monkey would let him.

You remove yourself from the refreshing fountain and look over your next riddle with your Pokemon. You quickly settle on an answer and prepare yourself for your next search. Figuring that the fence would most likely run along the outskirts of the field, you made your way away from the loud groups of people still talking about the sudden dancing that happened. You spot a white picket fence not too far in the distance. You and Rotom follow it, looking carefully for anything that might show you had found the right answer. You come to a gap in the fence. However, the gap looks unplanned, with nails and scraps of wood littering the ground. A loud cry and the sound of something crashing to the ground comes from behind you. You turn to see a small gray and pink Pokemon on the ground. Surrounding it was a scrambled pile of fence posts and buckets of nails. After clearing the tears that welled up in its eyes, the Pokemon picks itself up and begins to collect the wood once more. It stacks up each piece into its small arms on top of a square piece of wood that it looked unwilling to put down. With each piece that it stacks, it wobbles a bit and strains to carry the weight. It finishes up with the tower of wood in one arm, then picks up the bucket of nails with the other. After a few shaky steps, the Pokemon again falls to the ground along with all of its materials with the cry of “Timburr!!” Despite its continuing failure, the Muscular Pokemon again tried to gather up the wood for the fence.

Please post your reply by September 3rd. Please continue to use the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of this round.
Pocketing the blade of grass, Drew trudged along after Rotom, water squelching in his shoes with each step. Following the fence along proved to be exactly as boring as the previous 'hunt' had been: lots of studious searching for the most minor of differences to little effect. Plasma crackling with his displeasure, Rotom made his feelings abundantly clear.

"I mean, I signed up for a scavenger hunt, not a spot the difference puzzle. If I'd've wanted to do something like this, I'd've gone and bought a magazine."

Drew shot him a dry look as he absentmindedly dragged his hand along the fence. "Rotom, you didn't sign up for anything. I did and picked you to assist-"

"Cheat."

"-to assist on difficult riddles. So shut your yap and-" He suddenly stopped as his hand met empty air. "Huh, now that's not circumspect at all." They'd come to a break in the fence - fairly literally, considering the bad nails and wood scraps littering the ground just begging to be stepped on. "Also, a safety concern. Geez."

Rotom huffed out an exasperated breath. "So what? Do we take a nail or something?" A thought struck, which suddenly brightened his mood. "Ooh! Maybe this is telling us to break the fence, take some slats or something. That is something I could get behind."

Drew side-eyed him but visibly debated the suggestion. "Mm, not yet. Save that for plan B."

Just as Rotom started to make a quip about 'being more like plan D by this point," a crashing noise sounds from behind them, accompanied by a tearful cry. Whirling about, Drew took in the sight and couldn't help the 'aw' that escaped him. He wouldn't have thought one to be particularly adorable before, but the sight of the little Timburr trying valiantly to come fix the fence was as adorable as it was heart-clenching.

"If I had a heart it would be melting," Rotom deadpanned in agreement, though Drew detected a hint of truth intermixed in the sarcasm. Rotom really was growing soft in his older age.

Thoughts of a scavenger hunt forgotten, Drew approached the Muscular Pokémon and took a knee before it. "Hey there, mate. I know you don't know me, but if you need a hand I'd be happy to help."

The sudden darkness stunned both teams for a few moments. Though some Pokemon were more attuned to the dark than others, the change was disorienting. You expect Louise to be fine, but she was used to travelling with a diurnal trainer. The Mawile aimed for where she expected her opponent to be, but found herself making contact with the hard ground. Her eyes were slowly beginning to adjust, but there was not anything in her immediate area that posed a threat.

Elenchos floated along in the dark, hoping that he would still be able to find the flag. He reached his tentacles out in front of him in case he ran into any walls. The soft sound of snuffling came from his right, and as a precaution he shot out a Psywave in that direction. The snuffling stopped as a psychic wave of light was emitted from the Inkay. Elenchos watched as his move traveled into the darkness, and past a figure with illuminated, red eyes. The light had drawn Lulu to Elenchos’ position. With her sharp teeth she sunk a Bite into Elenchos. He let out a pained squeal before everything began to fade. Elenchos has fainted!

You were only able to see your Staryu, and directed it to focus itself on Larvitar. The small green Pokemon was rather weakened, but was determined to keep up his fight. Miapladicus focused a Water Gun at him as Berue provided a potential backup with her vines. The spray of water hit the Larvitar, sending him tumbling away. The Pokemon fell beyond the circumference of Miapladicus’ light, and disappeared into the night. Your Staryu and Tangrowth couldn’t hear anything from the area Larvitar had been sent to, but there was no knowing whether he was still conscious. With no sight of Lunatone, darkness was still prevailing on the playing field.
One thing was absolutely certain: things still weren't going smoothly in the slightest. If anything, it seemed almost as if Chroma's team was down a member... it was a bit hard to tell, for obvious reasons. She had a far closer issue to worry about first, and she had no intention of dropping the ball quite yet!

"Miapladicus, quickly light up the flag and prepare a Water Gun in case the larvitar shows its face again! Berue, swing a few Vine Whips wide and low to try and catch it before it gets there!" There was very little chance that the creature was simply retreating from what they had seen from it so far, and they'd be quite foolish to relax with that idea in their minds!

Time was running out, and if the small squeak Louise heard earlier was of any indication, she was the only one left to get the job done. There didn't seem to be anything around, for some bizarre reason, but that hardly meant that they weren't off duty yet. She took a deep breath, turned toward her target, and charged rapidly towards it, careful to keep her senses alert for enemy presence. She needed to bowl past any opposition quickly if she wanted to snag the flag, after all, and she had one tool for doing just that. The carbink may have unfortunately reduced the damage it would take from her Iron Head, but had presented no way to guard itself from Flinching from the blow- and with the lycanroc a little farther away, the carbink was the most likely foe she'd encounter.

By no means was that the only move she prepared to use, however- that would've been a terribly foolish idea! If the enemy continued to be active and was still in melee range, she intended to bop them with a Thunder Punch in hopes of paralyzing them and making them less of a nuisance from then on out. Otherwise, she'd use Fairy Wind to push them back: it was a quick-to-charge move that should give her a bit more time to reach her target, and she needed all the time she could get!

There was, of course, the small possibility that she wouldn't encounter any foes at all, but she certainly didn't bank on that one.

War of the Roses

Team Lilligant

Rorik – After getting over your initial shock at seeing that Queen Lilligant actually employs actual human beings to work in her domain, you decide to approach the man and make your surprise at the situation known. After hearing your question, the man turns toward you and gives you a strange look, pausing to make sure he heard you correctly before giving you a response. “Believe me sir, I wouldn’t be here right now if I weren’t being paid.” He then lets out a chuckle once he realizes that you must have just been joking and drops the subject. However, after listening to you stammer and compliment everything in sight, he begins to consider that you may just be the awkward type but keeps that thought to himself as he gets back to work. Once you realize that he really isn’t getting anywhere you decide to step in and offer a hand. Figuring it can’t hurt, he steps back and allows you to try your technique.

Staryu prepares itself by Minimizing once again, only this time, it needs to fit inside of a pipe and might get dirty. At least there is nothing that will kick it in there! Hopefully… In the Staryu goes as you and the maintenance man watch from the outside, neither of you can really see what’s going on in there. Staryu lands directly into a ball of foul smelling sludge that has managed to collect inside of the pipe for who knows how long. Maybe being kicked by the Psyduck was a better experience. Wanting out of there quickly, Staryu gets to work and begins to Spin Rapidly inside of the sludge, causing some of it to shoot up and out of the pipe, little drips hitting your shoes. After it’s loosened up a bit, Staryu changes its technique and uses Gyro Ball which was the final push that the sludge needed as it begins to rapidly leak out of one of the fountains openings that usually flows with water. The maintenance man looks at the sludge with disgust and your Staryu leaps out of the pipe and returns itself to full size. Staryu smells pretty terrible, but it did successfully clear the blockage. “Well, looks like I can go and turn this fountain back on since the water should flow now, thank you very much for the help!” The man reaches into his back pocket and pulls out the envelope you were eyeing up earlier then hands it to you. “Now that I think about it, I believe this is yours. Hope you have a good day, sir.” The man then turns to clean up the sludge in the fountain as you open up the envelope. Inside, there is a note along with a golden voucher. “Congratulations on making it this far! Please bring this voucher back to the center of the main garden.” Deciding it’s probably best that you continue to obey the queen for now, you and your Staryu make your way back in order to exit Lilligant’s domain.

Alex – Pridwen had you chasing him the entire way but it seems like he knew exactly what he was doing since he brought you straight to where you needed to be. It was hard to miss the woman who was very clearly struggling to attach a notice to the sign with a piece of tape. On top of it, it was a single piece of tape that she just kept repeatedly trying to attach so it was losing its stickiness too. Once you finished checking out what she was doing you looked at the sign once again, only this time you notice that the envelope that you need is clearly sticking out of the top of the sign. After repeatedly trying to grab it however, it becomes clear that this woman is going to be perfectly in the way until she is done with what she needs to do. She’s clearly not going to be getting anywhere fast with that overused single piece of tape, so this is where you come in.

You offer a hand and the woman stops what she’s doing and while still holding the notice she takes a moment to look back and forth between you and the Ferroseed at your side. “Oh, I’m definitely not going to turn down some help. At this rate, I’m going to be here all day.” As soon as she finishes that sentence, two spikes from the Pin Missile fly through the air and directly into the paper, snatching it out of the woman’s hands and sending it flying against the wood on the sign. That notice is definitely pinned on there really well now. The woman had jumped from the sudden attack, it had all happened so fast and out of nowhere. “Wow, you have a very eager Ferroseed there. I’m glad that attack hit the paper and not my hands.” She laughs nervously before she continues. “Thank you very much for the help! I really appreciate it!” Once she is done with thanking you and Pridwen she walks off to another part of the garden leaving you with that envelope. You take the envelope and open it up ready for another clue only this time there is a golden voucher inside along with a note. “Congratulations on making it this far! Please bring this voucher back to the center of the main garden.” Since the instructions are clear, you do just that and exit Queen Lilligant’s domain with Pridwen leading the way and rolling to the center of the main garden.

Lucas – It was pretty clear to you that Horologie was the reason that man was in the wet cement but you let it go since you had a destination in mind. Once you reached the area with the trees it didn’t take long for you to find the envelope that you were looking for, the problem was that it was snatched up before you could get to it. As you watch the Pansage sit there on your envelope while complaining about its splinter, you can’t help but feel pretty frustrated that you can’t seem to catch a break today. No matter, it would seem that you’re going to probably need to help this monkey out if you want to get anywhere.

With annoyance showing in your voice, you tell Horologie the plan and she nods before getting to work. The idea of putting her teeth on a Pansage’s foot in order to pull a splinter out isn’t exactly a pleasant one so she works extra hard to make sure her Mindpower does the job. She focuses on the splinter and slowly but surely, she begins to make progress while being as gentle as possible. The Pansage is just staring at the splinter as it moves at this point, seemingly unaware that Horologie is the one moving it, to the Pansage this just looks like some sort of miracle. Finally, after taking it slow, the splinter is completely out and the Pansage stands up and begins to do a celebration dance, only pausing to look at you and Horologie while pointing at its foot to show you both that it is free from its pain. You take this as your chance to successfully grab the envelope. The Pansage gives you a surprised look once it sees the envelope in your hand, seems it totally forgot about it for a second there. Once it realizes that it has nothing to do now, it runs off and climbs up a tree without splinters. After it’s gone, you open up the envelope and inside of it is a golden voucher as well as a note. “Congratulations on making it this far! Please bring this voucher back to the center of the main garden.” Since it’s clear what you need to do now, both you and Horologie exit Queen Lilligant’s domain and head for the center of the main garden.

Please read my second post for the final round of the scavenger hunt.

Team Bellossom

Melissa – As you searched the vases you really wished you had some light on you of some kind, but it couldn’t be helped since you were only allowed to bring one Pokemon into this challenge. After searching for a bit, a teenager managed to somehow break one of the very large and heavy vases. You can’t imagine how she possibly could have broken it, since these vases are so heavy that even just lifting one by yourself feels impossible. She must have been completely leaning all of her body weight into it or something. As you walked over to help, Vine returned to assess the situation and seemed pretty annoyed after he realized that it was that girl who caused all of the ruckus and shot the girl a grumpy look to show just how annoyed he was.

After seeing that the teen was clearly distressed over not being able to fix the vase on her own, you walk over in order to offer a hand. “Oh! Thank you so much!” You grab one of the vases halves and lift it up back into a standing position and she does the same which brings them together. While you are both leaning into your halves, Vine decided to take a look at the flowers that were once in the vase and are now gathered beside the teen and immediately noticed a pink envelope that is resting inside of a Ziploc bag. Knowing that is what you two need, he decides to help by grabbing it and bringing it out of the way in order to hand to you later. The girl eventually pulls away from the vase and it appears to be all in one piece again. “Wow, I couldn’t have fixed it without your help, I’m very grateful!” The teen goes to turn around but for some reason she loses her footing for a moment and takes a few steps backwards in order to regain her balance, tripping over Vine in the process. Vine finds himself knocked over once again while still holding onto the envelope. The girl manages to catch herself before going down and turns around toward Vine. “I’m so sorry little guy! I didn’t mean to trip over you! I hope you’re alright!” After a few more apologies she thanks you once more before wandering away to sight see some more. After Vine hands you the letter, you take it out of the Ziploc bag and open it up. Inside is a golden voucher as well as a note included with it. “Great job making it this far! Please come back to the center of the main garden and bring the voucher with you!” After reading that, you and Vine leave Queen Bellossom’s domain and head for the center of the main garden.

Jessica – As you are forced to listen to the man prattle on about how he is not about to miss his beloved TV shows, you and Lilac aren’t sure it’s ever going to end. However, he eventually mentions something that gives you an idea, maybe you’ll actually be able to accomplish both escaping his venting as well as getting your hands on that envelope. Once you have this plan in mind, you go to speak but find that this may be a bit more difficult than you thought, since now you need to find an opening to get your own words in. At this point, he is talking about his wife and how she can’t stand dishes being left in the sink and you are still stuck waiting for him to pause while wondering if this guy even stops to take breaths. Suddenly, he is forced to stop because he is lightly coughing because he dried his throat out a bit from talking so much. You take this as your opportunity and finally, your voice is heard. “Ohoho! So, this little fella’ can dance, eh? I’d love to see him perform!” The man clearly wasn’t listening when you used female pronouns as you spoke about your Petilil but that’s not what matters right now. What matters is that he is taking the bait.

Lilac’s eyes seem to light up when you give her permission to show this man her true talent. Her confidence was already doing pretty good after seeing how much the Azurill enjoyed her tune, so now she is even more fired up to impress someone else. She takes off her scarf and begins to play her Grasswhistle to add music while putting on a very entertaining show of dance. Her scarf flies about completely in rhythm to the beat and the man seems to be completely hypnotized by your Pokemon’s talent. He is definitely distracted enough for you to go in there and get that envelope so that is what you do. You carefully bend under the caution tape and crawl toward the bench, carefully grabbing the envelope underneath. It was very easy to grab and you didn’t disturb the paint at all! You’re confident with your success and didn’t pay complete attention as you backed out and stood up a little too soon, causing you to bring the cation tape with you, knocking the poles it was attached to over in the process. None of it touched the bench, thankfully, and you quickly move about to get yourself back on the other side of that tape before the man notices. Once you are safely out of the way, Lilac ends her performance and the man applauds. Then he turns around to see the caution tape on the ground everywhere. “Huh… I wonder what caused this…” He begins to put it back the way it was as you finally open your pink envelope, pulling out a golden voucher as well as a note. “Great job making it this far! Please come back to the center of the main garden and bring the voucher with you!” It seems that this time the envelope doesn’t contain a clue, it just has specific instructions. Looks like knowing what to do takes no effort this time around so you and Lilac make your way out of Queen Bellossom’s domain and to the center of the main garden.

Please read my second post for the final round of the scavenger hunt.

War of the Roses

Team Tsareena

Meetan: Concerned that this woman had gone into some sort of shock, you retrieve the envelope from the breast pocket of her coat. Pulling it out reveals an “A” and “L” in front of the other three letters. Though this wasn’t a medical emergency, you had another problem on your hands. The Morelull looks annoyed that your shrieking is interrupting its meal. It places its small feet on the woman’s face and begins to Sap her Strength. Despite its tiny and cute appearance, this Pokemon was clearly bringing harm to this scientist. Her face was already looking haggard and malnourished. The little mushroom was cackling to itself while it enjoyed its feast. Farren created a defensive wall between you and the Morelull, giving you a chance to catch your breath. Following directions, he manifests several star-shaped projectiles and launches them forward. The attack, of course, doesn’t miss, but it hits more than just its target. Farren’s Swift successfully hits not only the Morelull, but the sleeping woman as well. This startles her awake, and she smacks her head hard against the tree behind her. She tries to say something to you, then frantically searches all of her pockets for the envelope. Once she sees it in your hand, she looks relieved, but still in a lot of pain. She holds her head in her hands to soothe her headache. Morelull, also dazed, wanders away into a group of mushrooms and takes a nap. You open up the envelope with your name on it and reveal a sparkling piece of paper.

Median Dia: After you make your announcement, the guests of the Rose Garden look around uneasily. Without much time to prepare, people either scurried out of the area or found a steady tree to try and cling to. The woman with the Itemfinder is focused on digging up a new find and doesn’t move from her spot. Berue readies herself and is surrounded by a glowing, yellow power. She drives her vines into the sand and reveals her Power over the Earth. The ground begins to shake and a few people cry out in surprise. Suddenly, a section of the ground explodes, raining sand everywhere. A few more explosions go off, one right where the woman is covering up a discarded smoothie cup. “Jinkies!” She cries as the cup is blasted into the air. The guests who are still around peek from behind trees, wondering if the destruction had stopped. A final explosion goes off and something lands at your feet. You pick up a mangled pair of glasses with cracked lenses. The woman makes her way back over to you, shaking a bit from the shock of the explosions. You hand her the glasses and she tries to fit them over her face. Somehow she is able to see, and nervously hands you a sheet of paper she had just dug up. As she shuffles away she trips in a couple holes that had been created, and her glasses fly off of her face again. You take a look at the sparkling piece of paper in your hands.

Surprisingly, Persimmon had put some effort into this message for Team Unique. He had stuck lots of sequins all over the paper, and in the center read a message in his signature scrawl(but this time, in a lovely green gel pen):

“Fantastic work making it this far. Meet the group in the center of the main garden and present this voucher for your next task.”

Please read Patches' second post for the final round of the scavenger hunt.

Team Roserade

Rotom310: The Timburr tries to hide its tearful face as you kneel down to its level. It recognizes your kindness, but is still embarrassed that it is having such a hard time. It picks itself up and grabs on to its trusty log for comfort. The little Fighting-type begins to stack up the rest of the fence posts again, but allows you to take a few of them to help out. Together, you carry the pile back to the fence. Begrudgingly, your Rotom metaphorically lent a hand and levitated the nails over to you and Timburr. You steadied each fence-post as Timburr hammered them in with its log. After you had placed a few posts, you hear a gruff voice from behind you. A man in work overalls has approached you, holding a heavy looking mallet.

“Hey what do you think yer-!” The man stops himself as he sees a scared look on Timburr’s face. He approaches it gently and tries to understand the Pokemon as it explains through a series of sounds and gestures. It points to you and Rotom several times, and flexes its muscles proudly. “I see, so the whole crew called off today…And you were the only one who showed up…and this fella offered to help you out.” He laughs and slaps you on the back in a friendly manner.

“Well, thanks pal, this little guy here is definitely getting a promotion,” he hands over an envelope with your name on it. “I think this was for you, sorry you had to do some manual labor to get it!”

You open the envelope and retrieve a golden piece of paper with black text printed on it.

“Way to go! Bring this voucher to the main garden. See you soon! –Poppy”

War of the Roses

Once everyone found their envelopes that included a voucher, they were instructed to bring that voucher back to the center of the entire Rose Garden itself. All of the teams seem to slowly exit their queen’s domains around the same time, it seems that everyone made progress at a similar pace so it’s hard to tell how a winner is going to be determined. As the trainers exit their quadrants, their team’s representative gardener is directly outside patiently waiting to greet them as they make their way out, that is, all except for Persimmon who is standing on the stage in the center with a microphone in his hand. “Uh… If everyone could please hand your vouchers over to your team’s gardeners that would be great.” After giving those instructions, he puts the microphone down on a stand and pulls a crumpled note out of his lab coat and begins mumbling whatever is written on it to himself. As the members begin to approach their gardeners, everyone observes that there are now several different fair games on display out here that were definitely not there before.

Team Bellossom hands their vouchers over to Peony who is smiling wide and gives each member of the team a curtsy since she loves any excuse to show off her latest dress. Team Roserade approaches Poppy and he takes the vouchers while giving each member a hearty pat on the back for a job well done. Team Lilligant turns their vouchers into Petunia who whispers to each member about how well they did in there. Meanwhile, Team Tsareena have to make their way onto the stage in order to hand their vouchers in because Persimmon got so absorbed into reading his latest notes about the hyperspectral inversion of potassium content in vegetation that he forgot to step down in order to collect them from his own team. Even when he takes them, he barely manages to pull his attention away and then shoves the vouchers inside of one of his pockets as his team makes their way back off of the stage.

After a long pause of awkward silence, Poppy finally clears his throat loudly in order to finally grab the scientist’s attention. “Oh uh…” Persimmon quickly grabs the microphone once again, causing it to briefly reverb before going back to normal. “This is the final round of the second part of the event. As you can all see, while we made sure that you were all distracted elsewhere by slowing you down with obstacles, we set up several games out here.” The other three gardeners shift around somewhat awkwardly as Persimmon proceeds to openly tell the participants that all of those obstacles were intentionally set up to buy them time. “So yeah uh, each of these games will award tickets and each of you gets to choose only three of these games to play. You want to get a lot of tickets because each ticket you earn will be added to your scores at the end… Oh, and your Pokemon are only allowed to use one attack per game.” He pauses for a moment to adjust his glasses, making them more lopsided than they already were and then turns toward the members of Team Lilligant, mistaking them for his own team. “Go Tsareena…!” After another awkward silence, he speaks into the microphone once again. “You may all begin!”

Available Games

Shooting Gallery – A game where your Pokemon needs to shoot down as many of the moving Psyduck as they can within the time limit! Keep an eye out for those rare Ducklett’s because they are worth double points! (Don’t worry, they aren’t real Pokemon)

Pachinko – A life size version of the popular Japanese arcade game where instead of balls we use Pokemon! Can your Pokemon make it into the goal?

Haunted House – If your Pokemon enjoys scaring people then this is the game for you! How many people can they scare as they pass through?

Dunk Tank – It’s simple! Just soak the target to cause the seat to drop out from underneath the gardener inside and watch as they fall into the water!

BBQ – Who knew cooking was a game? Well, everyone needs to eat! Cook up as many hot dogs and burgers as you can to make the people happy but make sure they don’t burn!

Grip Test – This is a game for Pokemon with a strong grip! All they need to do is squeeze the metal bar as tight as they can!

Milk Bottles – Knock over as many milk bottles as you can! Just remember that it takes a very strong impact to get them to fall over!

Test of Strength – Use something hard to smash the platform with all your strength! The only problem is, there is no mallet.

Inflatable Obstacle Course – Smash your way through this obstacle course of fun! Try and get to the end as fast as you can!

Bottom of the Barrel – There is a prize waiting for you at the bottom of the murky water inside the barrel. Looks like you’ll need to somehow soak up all that water!

Break the Glass – Does your Pokemon have an amazing voice? This is your chance to see if your Pokemon can reach the perfect pitch to shatter as many cups made out of glass as they can!

Charge-up Game – The lights won’t turn on! Does your Pokemon have the ability to provide the charge that they need?

Blow the Sailboat – These miniature sailboats aren’t getting anywhere without a little help. Are you the one that will help them cross the finish line?

Rules:
1. Pick three games to play with your Pokemon.
2. Choose only one move to use per game. The move can be different for each game you choose.
3. The scores you receive for your games depends on the move you select, so choose wisely!
4. Please post your reply by September 10th.

TheKnightsFury:
As Jayson witnessed the battle unfolding, he was soon enough presented with a wrench in his plans. The Kricketot had evolved into a Kricketune, and Trieu’s and Spartacus’ opponents had switched places. Fortunately for the young Skorupi, the Karrablast was worn down and now poisoned, but it still presented a threat nonetheless. Meanwhile Spartacus sparred against a freshly evolved Kricketune who was ready to test out its new skills. Jayson quickly adjusted his strategy and called it out to his Pokemon who lay in wait.

Starting things off, Trieu squared off against the persistent Karrablast. Despite being poisoned and short on breath, it refused to drop its guard and give up the fight. Karrablast Leered an icy glare at the scorpion, who shuddered before slipping past the beetle’s defenses to strike it from behind with a Feint Attack. Karrablast grunted, but was prepared to turn this into an all-out brawl to the very end. It leapt forward, Pecking Trieu with its horn for great damage. Trieu hissed in pain herself, but clamped her mandibles down on Karrablast for a Bite. As Trieu followed up with a second consecutive Bite, her target quickly shook itself free by slashing at her with a weak Fury Cutter. Squaring off against Trieu once more, Karrablast was on its last legs. From the look of things, a finishing blow would be all that was needed to end this battle, which is good for Trieu, because she looked like she was about at her end as well.

Meanwhile, across the clearing Spartacus locked blades with the Kricketune’s long pointed arms. The cricket had just used a Fury Cutter, and Spartacus was no stranger to the dangers it presented by now. The Scyther quickly disengaged their skirmish and retreated back a few steps to Roost and recover up some of his wounds. However, Kricketune wasn’t in the mood for allowing his opponent a free recovery, and as the Scyther had sacrificed the mobility his flying type presented for the moment, Spartacus was a sitting duck for a much stronger follow-up Fury Cutter by Kricketune. Spartacus stumbled back a few feet, only being able to recover a slight margin of health which was offset by the damage he just received. Turning his focus back to the battle, Spartacus zoomed forward to give the Kricketune a Bug Bite on the shoulder, who retaliated with a third Fury Cutter in return.

The force of the blow pushed Spartacus off of his target as the two Pokemon began to breathe heavier. As they stared each other down, more memories of darker times in Bedlam Ridge fueled Spartacus with negative energy while his scythes began to glow an ominous purple. Kricketune’s arms continued to glow green and were a greater intensity than they were before. The two opponents charged forward, clashing their blades as Spartacus’ Shadow Break collided with Kricketune’s Fury Cutter. As the dust settled, both Pokemon looked pretty worse for wear after taking each other’s attacks. Like the other battle, things could be wrapping up here soon as well. What will Jayson do?

Jerichi:
After coming up with a plan, Lucas sent back out the exhausted Violette and quickly fed her a Berry Juice to recover some energy. Although she was still pretty tired, the young Alolan Vulpix looked like she could at least move around on her own for now and was ready to help out. Taking the Rose Incense with her a short distance upwind of the sunflower bed, she wafted a fragrant and chilly breeze in the Sunfloras’ direction with her Icy Wind.

Just as Lucas predicted, the flowers’ natural reaction to wilt with colder weather mixed with the alluring fragrance of the Rose Incense had the Sunfloras in a daze. The tall flower Pokemon were practically in an unconscious trance as Horologie stepped forward, ready to do her job. The Girafarig focused her mind and used the telekinetic properties of her Confusion attack to lift the frail Budew from the soil as carefully as possible. Once she was safely clear of the flower bed, Lucas took the Budew in his arms as Horologie and Violette happily regrouped to celebrate their successful maneuver. For all of her effort thus far in the garden, Horologie has gained 2 levels!

“Excellent!” Petunia clapped her hands together excitedly as she peered over at the Budew. “Hurry, let’s get her some water!” The group of them quickly hurried off down the path through the trail of beautiful flowers until they reached a small pond with water lilies resting on the calm surface. Following Petunia’s instruction, Lucas gently held the Budew’s small root-like feet right on the surface of the water for a few moments. As he set her back down on solid ground, Petunia had procured a watering can and sprinkled some more water on the Budew’s sprout-like arms. Budew finally looked at peace and opened her eyes to stare up at her saviors. “Dew?” she asked curiously with an innocent smile.

“SUUUUN!” a cry suddenly outburst from nearby, in the direction of where they had previously come. “That doesn’t sound good!” Petunia acknowledged, stating the obvious. Before they had time to decide if they wanted to check things out or not, Budew had already taken off, much more energetic now as her tiny legs took her down the pathway at a faster speed than one would imagine. Lucas and company hurried off after her.

As they arrived back at the sunflower bed, things were much messier than they had left them. There was an obvious sign of a struggle as many of the sunflowers had been trampled and a couple of Sunfloras were fainted while others sobbed quietly. “What happened here?” Petunia asked the sobbing sunflowers. One of them woozily pointed over to the flower bed with her leafy arm. Not only was Budew missing from the nursery for obvious reasons, but some of the Sunkern were missing as well. Budew seethed as she looked around for her missing friends. The only clue she could find were a couple of rose petals that had been left behind in the scuffle. Turning to face north, Budew spotted the faint figures of a couple of Jumpluff floating back towards Roserade’s domain. “Ooh, that’s playing dirty…” Petunia sighed, clicking her teeth in disappointment of the turn of events. Budew looked as if she were about to charge headfirst into action once again. What will Lucas do?

Again, Staryu was resoundingly successful. Its Rapid Spin and Gyro Ball combination had managed to unclog the fountain, and earned them the next slip of paper in the process. As the old gardener handed him the document, Rorik couldn't help but wonder if the man would've managed to do it on his own if he'd actually tried, and if he was just testing the two of them...

Mercifully, the note wasn't yet another riddle, but instructions of how to reach the final stretch of the challenge. And this time, the rules were vastly different, as haphazardly explained by Persimmon.

That one is just about as skilled with a microphone as myself, I see... Poor man.

It was hard for the Professor not to feel for the clumsy Tsareena supporter, he too severely lacking in the social skills department. Luckily, those weren't required to keep progressing in the War of the Roses... at least not that he could tell.

And still, for some reason, it was pleasing to see everyone else again, teammates and rivals alike - the last part of the challenge had been rather lonely, and it was a relief to see everyone else was safe and sound. Which meant Rorik could now devote his entire attention to the task ahead.

I can, but... what about Staryu?

Several attractions had been set up while everyone was busy, and now each participant was expected to participate in three of them. No breaks, no recovery items, nothing... just a continuous exercise in power, speed and stamina that not every Pokémon could endure forever, no matter how much they wanted to. Staryu was among them.

After braving the plant maze, being trampled on by a Psyduck, emplying mental power to communicate with Rorik, and physically pushing itself to the limit to unclog the fountain pipe, the starfish was showing clear signs of exhaustion; its gem flickered faintly, rapidly, indicating it was running out of energy. There was no way it could perform adequately in three more challenges in succession.

But it was absolutely remarkable, wasn't it? Unfailingly loyal, unfailingly competent. Everything I asked it to do, Staryu did without hesitation - right down to diving inside that filth-covered pipe. Why does it do that? Munchlax isn't half as approachable, and he was my first companion. But Staryu... it was a mistake! A botched adoption! So... why?

Rorik's eyes widened at what followed. Skimping, visibly tired, Staryu stepped forward with iron resolve, fully turning its attention to the games ahead. Missing the last part of the challenge seemingly didn't cross its mind for a mere second, even in its state. It wanted to keep going. Why?!

"Our... Bond?"

Could it be? That intangible sense of loyalty, the unbreakable connection formed through so many adventures together... he hadn't taken the time to really think about, but he and Staryu really had come a long way together, hadn't they? The hunt for clues all over and around Cloud Garden's Stone Shrine, the Bunnelby chase, the fierce battle against that ravenous pack of Rattata in the Black Bayou, the coming-of-age adventure alongside Munchlax in Incognito Isle all on their own... And to think, Rorik was so close having adopted a different Pokémon back then. Fate did work in mysterious ways, and in this moment, there was no way the man of science could deny the fact...

"Staryu... you're ready, you know?"

Hearing Rorik, the starfish turned around, visibly puzzled. It was funny, really - the Water-Type was as physically expressionless as ever, but Rorik had come to easily guess most of its feelings out of pure instinct. That had to be the fabled Bond he so desperately yearned to understand as both Professor and Trainer.
The man dropped to one knee and rummaged through his Bag. After a little while, he found what he was looking for, and showed it to Staryu - the glittering blue gem it had found in Incognito Isle, a precious Water Stone. No more words were necessary - Staryu had told Munchlax it would be Rorik to decide when, and now, it seemed the Professor considered it worthy. So be it.

A different, special kind of light emanated from its gem, then grew to engulf its entire body. Staryu's frame grew progressively, its five appendages multiplied, and at the same time the Stone was consumed, vanishing from Rorik's hand. A powerful glow filled the area, and when it finally subsided... a miracle happened.

Rorik knew, of course, what to expect from the evolution process - it was common knowledge that Staryu became Starmie. But when the light faded, even the Professor was astonished to see the result: no longer bearing a red gem, but one of a blue as deep as the ocean, as was the rest of its body, it was clear something more than merely evolving had taken place...

Stahl...

That was the first thought that came to Rorik's mind upon seeing what had happened. The Old Heimlan word for "sapphire", that his grandmother so often used to describe his mom's eyes - the tone's resemblance was indeed uncanny.

Did the Water Stone trigger a second mutation? Or is this... the power of a true Bond?!

There were no published articles on this kind of evolution-bound phenomenon; different-colored specimens occurred in the wild and were that way from birth, but this... this, not even Rorik could explain.

"You look... gorgeous," he finally managed to say in his disbelief. "You remind me so much of her..."

This was no longer Staryu, of course. But in a way, it wasn't just a Starmie either. It was his Starmie, special from the strength of their Bond. At the lack of a better word, this was... Stahl.

Just about everyone I've encountered in my travels so far did it. Erik did it too, even Gottfried, but I never understood the point - the purpose of naming your Pokémon anything besides what they actually were. But I think I understand now - it makes them special. It makes them yours only, unique among all others of its species... And isn't that too forming a stronger Bond? How could I have been oblivious to this for so long?...

"Just as I'm called Rorik, and not just human, I... I would like to call you Stahl from now on," he said in a soft voice, still unsure about his own decision. "That is your name... because you are so much more than just another Starmie. What do you say?"

It didn't need to say anything, of course. The happy flickering of its blue, wondrous gem gave him the answer he sought. And now, their strength renewed and their link stronger than ever, Rorik and Stahl were ready to overcome this last round!

"I think it's only fair you take your pick," declared Rorik with the grin of a man who knew he was more than up for the challenge.

To this, Stahl stepped forward and cast consecutive Spotlights on its chosen games: Charge-Up Game, Shooting Gallery and finally Dunk Tank!

"Yes, thought you might. Alright Stahl, let's get going! Light up those bulbs with a well-measured Thunderbolt!"

If anyone could calculate how much voltage would be required to power those circuits without damaging them, it would be the Analytic Starmie, who'd mastered use of electricity under Rorik's ownership - or perhaps in spite of it.

"When you're done, focus on the moving targets! Bide your time until you spot those Ducklett, then shower them all with Swift!"

Fitting for an actual star, the rain of golden projectiles was known to never miss its mark - with that, Rorik hoped to rack up the maximum amount of points with a single move, making sure not a single target eluded Stahl's attack.

"And for the grand finale, let's give it everything we got - use a Hydro Pump to soak up that target fast and send our gardener friend for a bath!"

They had nothing to lose; they had made it this far, and Stahl had the tools to take them even farther, but even if his plan backfired, he was still walking out with a heck of a story to tell. He was certain that Lilligant, competitive as it appeared to be, wouldn't fault them even if they failed, after such a display of heart... right?

Budew looked as if she were about to charge headfirst into action once again. What will Lucas do?
Though he had succeeded in his primary goal of rescuing Budew and nursing her back to health, the situation with the Sunflora that they had briefly left behind had deteriorated rapidly in their short absence. It seems their plan to rescue Budew had been exploited by the Roserade Queen, as the distraction resulting from the wafting of the incense made a perfect opportunity to raid the plot and kidnap some of the Sunkern being nursed there.

Feeling somewhat responsible for the turn of events, Lucas started to formulate a plan to rescue the Seed Pokémon from their captors. His involvement would have to deepen for this in spite of his wishes, but he felt it was only right. However, he could still make an effort to keep himself out of the spotlight as much as possible. That would require a bit of stealth, which a large giraffe creature or excitable little fox did not lend themselves well to. But, he did have a Pokémon in his arsenal that would be of great help.

Withdrawing both Horologie and Violette after thanking them for their help, he sent out one of the Pokémon Jeri had loaned him for his first trip - Ai the Kecleon. Lucas was a bit concerned about using this Pokémon his friend so dearly treasured, but Jeri had assured him that Ai was well-trained and could handle herself in just about any situation. Upon release, the lizard stretched and looked to her temporary trainer for some direction.

"Okay, Ai, I have a bit of a task for you - a group of Jumpluff commanded by the Roserade Queen seem to have kidnapped some of these poor Sunflora's babies and we're gonna try go get them back. I want you to use your Camouflage to sneak around her garden and scout out where they're being held. I'll be following after you but I might not be able to get too far in her domain without being noticed."

Lucas then turned to Petunia - "While we're scouting out the Roserade gardens, we'll try to find something to help the Sunflora who were attacked. Can you tend to them in the meantime?"

Having successfully helped the Pansage and retrieved the voucher from the envelope, Lucas returned back to the center of the garden and handed it in as instructed. After a bit of confusion, Poppy introduced the next stage of the competition, informing the players about the games that they were busy setting up while the teams were wandering around the gardens in search of the clues. Lucas, having rather enjoyed playing these carnival games as a child, was rather keen to give these versions a try. He surveyed the games and quickly found three he thought he'd like to give a shot - the Haunted House, the Shooting Gallery and Charge-Up Game. He'd have to use Horologie to conquer these various tasks, and while she didn't seem perfectly suited to all of them, he was able to identify three that she should excel at.

"Okay, Horologie, I think we've got this. Let's see if we can't put your skills to good use. Let's take advantage of your toothy tail for the Haunted House and use it to Astonish some people - just keep an eye on it so it doesn't snag anyone in its jaw! Then, let's try the Shooting Gallery, which you can try to snipe with your Signal Beam. Finally, we can head over to the Charge-up Game. There, we can put your Thunderbolt technique to good use to power those lights."

Horologie gave an affirmative whinny as the pair trotted over to the first game.

Well, the end result of her orders would wind up being spectacular one way or another, but Chroma and Berue had hoped for more shaking the sand off the litter and less exploding them violently in the skies. That said, it certainly was impressive to watch and ultimately got the job done- Chroma knelt down and picked up the newly uncovered glasses and tried to twist the frame a bit closer to normal while it was still a bit hot... which was a bit problematic in it's own right.

"I believe these are yours!" the warrior declared as she handed the eyesight correctors back to their rightful owner, trying not to let the literally burning pain her hands were in show on her face. "I'm not sure if they were like this before or after we blew them out, though!"She thanked the lady upon receiving what she had been looking for in return and winced as the blind woman tripped and lost her extra eyes all over again. "We tried, I guess? Let's just leave and see what the next riddle is..."

Berue nodded her agreement and followed her trainer back into the comforting shade of the makeshift jungle...

Haunted House – If your Pokemon enjoys scaring people then this is the game for you! How many people can they scare as they pass through?

Grip Test – This is a game for Pokemon with a strong grip! All they need to do is squeeze the metal bar as tight as they can!

Test of Strength – Use something hard to smash the platform with all your strength! The only problem is, there is no mallet.

Rules:
1. Pick three games to play with your Pokemon.
2. Choose only one move to use per game. The move can be different for each game you choose.
3. The scores you receive for your games depends on the move you select, so choose wisely!
4. Please post your reply by September 10th.
The paper was not a riddle, oddly enough, but an oddly bedazzled voucher of some sort. To say that it was not what the pair were expecting would be quite the understatement, but was hard to tell what they should've expected in the first place- between the impossible riddle that led to a broken down steam machine and causing an explosion on the beach (which they seriously hoped Tsareena wouldn't get mad at them over), it was hard to say what sort of thing they were supposed to expect in the first place. Given how out there most of the Queen's gardeners were, there might never have been one in the first place!

...Or maybe there was. Turns out the riddles were specifically a distraction to keep them away from the central area- undoubtedly one of the other gardeners' ideas, sure, but definitely one Persimmon and his crew followed quite well. Chroma had to give credit where credit was due, after all.

Turns out that the real Second Event was a series of carnival games of various sorts, each designed (or redesigned, in some cases) specifically for just the pokemon to participate in rather than the trainers. A quick scan of the area gave Chroma a good feel for what Berue should tackle for their three games once they were released, but... there was something else she had to deal with beforehand.

Persimmon failed to recognize his own team. "Guess he didn't want his credit, after all..." she muttered as she covertly tossed the empty Potion bottle had found at the Oasis at him. "It was the closest she could get to untying his shoe from this distance, since using her own powers was kinda against the laws of the land...

First stop: the Grip Test! Sure, Chroma hadn't been looking for big, burly pokes with great physical might- indeed, she hadn't expected even get the one- but since she had one, she might as well make sure it used its natural potential from time to time. And if thee was one physical action tangrowth were known for, it was most likely their absurdly powerful grip! "Alright, let's squeeze this bar real tight with Constrict!"

Next up: the Test of Strength! Chroma admittedly wanted to stop by the Shooting Gallery instead, but the (newly evolved) starmie was already showing just how great Swift was at that game. Sure, there was the chance that Nature Power would turn into Swift as well, but there was a somewhat higher chance that it would turn into Tri Attack instead. And while three shots was still better than one, they just had better chances of getting a good score elsewhere. "Alright, why don't we intimidate the silly thing a bit before showing it who's boss. Boost up your might with a Swords Dance before giving it a good whack on the head!"

And finally, there was the one Chroma was most excited for: the Haunted House! Berue was already the sort of being most people would be terrified to encounter in the dark: a mysterious grey entity covered from head to toe in vines (i.e., tentacles). There was one incredibly simple way to make those sorts of beasties even more horrifying than they were before: give the control of even bigger, badder tentacles vines! "Alright, Berue, let's try and take over this show for the last stretch. Find a nice, plant friendly area and redecorate it with the thorniest, and freakiest, Frenzy Plant you can muster!"

It seemed that no matter how hard he pushed, these bugs just kept coming back stronger. Spartacus had really picked a tough pair to deal with, he had hoped for a nice easy battle for Trieu to test herself but that wasn't happening. Instead both of his Pokemon looked like they were about ready to faint, something he had hoped to avoid. Trieu had almost brought the Karrablast down but it still had plenty of fight in it, the Skorupi was looking just as battered. The newly evolved Kricketune was attacking Spartacus ruthlessly, the Scyther was barely managing to keep up. They needed an edge, something to help them finish the battle off.

Jayson dug into his backpack and produced 1 Rare Candy,"Spartacus, eat this!" The Scyther turned just in time to catch the candy in his mouth, the energy rich treat increased his strength.

Spartacus reached lvl 21!
Spartacus learnt Wing Attack!

Suddenly the Scyther's wings began to glow with energy, he had achieved what he hoped."Spartacus harness your new power! Keep hitting the Kricketune with Wing Attack until it falls, you can do it!" With Spartacus now having a super effective option that also benefited from being of the same typing and from his Technician ability, Jayson was certain the Scyther had enough to edge out the win. Trieu waited patiently for her orders, hopefully she could do enough to finish off the Karrablast."Trieu now it's your turn! Bite the Karrablast and then give it one more Feint Attack before Biting it once last time!" Jayson couldn't help but cross his fingers, he would need a little luck to go his way if they were going to come out on top.

Alice panicked when the swift attack struck the poor scientist. Most people made the mistake of thinking her Pineco was weak, but he was one of the strongest in her arsenal, and so it was a miracle that all it did was awaken the victim instead. She exhaled with relief, concerned that the Morelull was basically being left to sleep off its bad behaviour, but at least the stranger was leaving as well. Alice called out an apology, wondering aloud if it was alright to leave her to her devices. There wasn't time to pursue her with the games ongoing, so Alice merely picked the bug up and kissed his side in praise; carrying the Pokemon off towards the centre of the gardens.

Being instructed to hand off their vouchers to Persimmon made Alice cringe, and she joined her teammates in doing so, moving up to the stage with her head held high and a judgmental gleam in her blue eyes. This guy might have been smart at science, but they could have picked almost any other employee and they would have done a better job at the whole MC thing. As a radio hostess and budding idol herself, it was awful to watch, and looking over the audience she could see that many were just as pained as they were.

"Death by slow Ariados devouring would literally be more merciful." Alice remarked to Farren venomously, who made a noise to acknowledge her statement, but respectfully(ish) disagreed. Admitting to the purposeful delay had the blonde snorting and smirking, but once they knew their missions, the young woman was far peppier. "Alright, dude, let's go and see these games! Right?"
"Pineco!" The bagworm cheered, glad that Alice had returned to her better self. She had to make some effort to ignore Persimmon, because the mere sight of him brought on toxicity in the human, but it was easier as she perused the games available. Alice listened to explanations and asked questions when needed, but it thankfully wasn't difficult to find activities in which the male would surely excel.

"Let's do this one first." Alice greeted the clerk politely and brightly, making sure to say 'please', 'thank you' and ask how their day was going. She would do the same for each staff member. Manners were to be valued, after all, and she appreciated the efforts of those who weren't so awkward her organs wanted to crawl out of her body and leave her to die. The contestant set Farren down on the counter, making sure to give the staffer warning to hide as she was about to (by ducking). It was the shooting gallery, and there was only one move that suited this challenge to the letter, "Okay, Farren, whenever you're ready-- time for a pin missile!"

Her Pokemon didn't get dizzy too easily. After all, most of his motions and moves required the creature to spin at severe speeds. He was his own weapon, and damn super effective if Alice said so herself. It had still been sensible to save the obstacle course and then pachinko for second and third. On the former, rollout was Alice's favoured option, as Farren would only gain momentum and power as he went on, which was perfect (Alice hoped it was sturdy enough not to burst). Finally, for the lifesize machine - hella cool, by the way - Alice settled for gyro ball. Rapid spin had been in the running, but Alice thought that Farren might better control his speed with the former, and therefore be more likely to reach the goal instead of spinning uncontrollably around the board. Fingers crossed! Whatever the result, the duo were clearly having a good time, and Alice was snapping pictures and cheering her friend on the entire time.

She quickly thought up a defensive strategy and called it out to Iris, who nodded in acknowledgement as she prepared to fight. Comfey hovered next to Iris, ready to go as well.

Still wobbling around in a state of confusion and rage, Steenee was unable to see Comfey coming, as she snuck up and Kissed her on the cheek and began to Drain some energy. Her fury still locked in on Iris, Steenee lumbered forward. However, Iris began to dart around rather quickly for a caterpillar, creating a series of after-images in the process. Steenee went in for a Double Slap, but came up with air as one of the Double Team clones faded away. Annoyed even further, Steenee unleashed a flurry of Razor Leaves on the rest of the Irises, but as they all faded from existence, the original Iris was nowhere in sight.

Not wanting to be left out of the action, Cherrim turned its attention towards Comfey and rammed into her with a powerful Tackle. Comfey yelped in pain but Wrapped her flowery tail around Cherrim once again. Her goal; hold the opponent in place long enough for Iris to sneak up undetected from behind with her Camouflage and unleash a Silvery Wind as Comfey released Cherrim and jumped out of the way just in time. Cherrim anguished over the super effective hit and began to spin and Dance around, releasing a tornado of pink flower Petals that knocked Comfey back for considerable damage.

As Cherrim continued its dance, Steenee looked as if her confusion was beginning to subside. While Comfey took a nasty hit, both opponents weren’t looking too great either. Iris seemed to be the only one who came out of that round clean, but Steenee and Cherrim shouldn’t be underestimated as they looked desperate and ready to put all they had into next attacks. What will Jess do?
As Iris went on the defensive, darting about to create doubles of herself, so too did Steenee start seeing rage twicefold, seething as she attempted to slap one of the clones silly, but coming up empty instead. Growing even further frustrated (from yet another stolen kiss by Comfey in the confusion as well), Steenee shrieked and unleashed a barrage of leaves on the remaining reproductions, but the flurry of foliage merely phased through the fakes. Duties fulfilled, the doppelgangers faded from the earthly physical plane, returning back to the ethereal.

Whilst one of their opponents was distracted, the real Iris had snuck off towards the other, concealing her presence by cloaking her body in the same color as the surroundings. Comfey kept Cherrim occupied by entwining her tail around the quarry again (albeit suffering a hit in exchange), prepared to hold to target still long enough for Iris to approach undetected and vent her own vexation. Iris inhaled a deep breath before blowing a powdery breeze of bright silver dust, scales scintillating as they blasted the enemy with Bug-charged energy for super-effective damage. Comfey managed to leap out of the way of friendly fire in the nick of time, however was unable to avoid Cherrim's resentful retaliation as it began revolving in a pirouette, summoning an angry storm of petals to swirl and slice at anyone in close proximity. Comfey squeaked as she was knocked back by the powerful counterstrike, shedding a few of her own petals in the process.

By the end, all parties looked rather worse for wear aside from Iris, who had luckily scraped by without receiving any injuries. Their adversaries were beginning to appear desperate though, and something told Jess they were primed to pull out all the stops at this point. Swallowing, she figured they should try to finish this quick before their new friend fared even worse than the pair they were endeavoring to subdue.

"If they want a war of the winds, let's give them one. Follow up with RAZOR WIND at both of them. Then, try to cut through to Cherrim with an AIR SLASH. Finally, take advantage of the sunlight and blast it with a SOLARBEAM!"

myahoo – Signal really wanted to do a good job and with how things played out in the last round, nothing worked out at all. On top of that, he was pretty confused when the boy actually laughed at him for his mistake. So far you’ve managed to get nowhere when talking to this boy and even Wildfire is starting to slowly look worse for wear after getting hit by that water type attack. Signal wanted to do things right this time and had paid attention to the boys commands because he has prepared himself this time. Papi begins to use Supersonic and the sound waves are aimed perfect at Signal, there is no way the attack will fail if it hits. Fortunately, Signal makes sure that doesn’t happen moves out of the way just in time. Scyther on the other hand has no intention of missing his target and lunges forward, prepared to strike with double Slashes on Signal. The moment Scyther’s blade begins to make contact with him, he lets off a Charge Beam which is even more powerful than normal because not only is Scyther now weak to electric, he is also only inches away from the attacks source. The Slash only manages to barely scrape Signal before Scyther is blown away and electrocuted. The Scyther begins to shake on unsteady legs and Signal is just about to use Shock Wave but then, Scyther completely drops which would make the move useless. (Signal gains 2 levels!)

“What!? Scyther!!” One thing that is clear by the boys reaction is that he does have a heart in there somewhere because it’s clear that he is pretty worried about Scyther as he runs onto the field of battle in order to check on his Pokemon. Meanwhile, Wildfire went to use his first Nature Power and the attack caused him to use the energy around him to create an Energy Ball that he launched right at Papi who wasn’t paying attention because he was still stuck on the fact that his attack on Signal didn’t work. The attack hits the Palpitoad hard and it’s definitely super effective, looks like you’ve made a good choice. (Wildfire gains 1 level!) Now that Papi’s attention has been brought back over to Wildfire he remembers his second move and begins to hit Wildfire with Muddy Water and hits him perfectly while also lowering his accuracy. Wildfire shoots off his second Energy Ball however, the mud in his eyes causes the attack to fly right over Papi’s head. Wildfire appears to be struggling at this point, the two water attacks seem to be taking their toll. Papi was definitely very hurt by the first grass attack but his Aqua Ring healed him a little bit at least, and he seems to still have a decent amount of fight left.

“Damnit!!!” The boy returns Scyther to a pokeball and looks at you with pure disdain. “Do you even understand what you’ve done!? Scyther already felt like a failure after failing that stupid trial and now you’ve gone and knocked him out!” All of the Pokemon on the field are standing still as the boy expresses what he’s feeling since no one is sure what they should be doing at a time like this. “You asked me earlier why I’m doing this, well how about I tell you the real answer after your own Pokemon get to feel what it’s like to fail? Papi!!” You didn’t have time to even react and neither did your Pokemon, it all happened so fast it was as if that Palpitoad had read his trainers mind. Before any of you had any type of chance to stop it, Papi shot Wildfire with a powerful Bubble Beam and that was the last hit the little Cyndaquil could take before also falling over completely knocked out. “Alright, now that we’re on the same page, I’ll tell you because at least now you can feel some of my pain.” The boy is clearly very satisfied with what just happened to Wildfire as he continues. “I’m doing this because Scyther took on the trial here in the forest and lost, after that he was very down on himself for days so we tried again and he failed the second time as well. I didn’t want him to continue to feel like a failure so I wanted to show him that it doesn’t matter, the only reason I want to go higher up this mountain is to visit the Burnt Forest. And well, why should I have to go up there to see it when I can easily just create the same place down here? It’s genius!” The boy has a look of pure confidence as he explains his story. It’s clear that he cares about his Pokemon for the most part but is generally pretty selfish and twisted outside of that. “Welp, let’s wrap this up, Papi. Go ahead and cause an Uproar to take out that Chinchou so we can get out of here.” He then turns to you. “Let’s see if you can beat Papi fair and square, shall we?”

Meetan – Ivan gently places his phone down on the counter in front of him in order to give you his full attention as you explain what happened to Furfrou. He was a bit disappointed that you clearly weren’t picking up the signals he was throwing down or at least you weren’t returning them if you did. As much as he would like for your relationship to progress, he couldn’t help but feel serious concern for the Furfrou that you described. “You have a very beautiful name Alice, it’s a name I certainly won’t be forgetting.” He then stands up and walks toward one of the windows on the cabin to look out at the rolling hills in every direction. “I haven’t heard anything about the Furfrou but if she is out there right now, I can’t deny that there is a chance she ran into trouble.” Turning away from the window he looks back at you. “You see, Skiddo are generally very docile and calm so seeing one as frustrated as the one outside appears to be has us rangers concerned. My partner Joe left earlier to see if he could find anything unusual that might have caused the Pokemon distress but he hasn’t returned and I need to stay here just in case trainers such as yourself stop by.”

Every time Ivan pauses his sentence, the sound of Skiddo ramming into the cabin is pretty hard to miss. A bit of frustration shows on his face as he isn’t sure what exactly he can do in this situation and it’s clear you have a very pressing concern at the moment. “I really wish I could help you, I hate seeing a woman in distress but I’m not really able to leave this cabin at the moment. However, if I do see the Furfrou I will definitely do everything in my power to make sure it receives the medical treatment that it needs. Right now, you might have better luck with asking my partner who is actually out there. I can’t tell you exactly where he is because I’m not sure about his exact location but, he did head to the east when he left.” After he is done telling you the only thing he can come up with he jogs back around the counter and grabs his phone, holding it out to you. “How about we exchange numbers? You know, this way if I hear about Furfrou I can contact you.” He gives you another one of those perfect smiles again as he waits for you to input your number into his phone.
