Quite the unexpected opinion! I was thinking people would be angry about another "installment" coming out and continuing the story.

The game has kept faithful to the series, brought back all the major actors (except for Rick Morranis and Sigourney Weaver). Much of the dialogue was written by the original writers, Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. The voice work of the original Ghostbusters is pretty good, but it's pretty clear Bill Murray is retired and didn't put as much enthusiasm as the others in his work. It's still a good job, but he's clearly past his prime. A lot of things feel pretty repeated, such as fighting Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Gozer being the evil deity you have to fight (like in the first movie), but I think they did this so you could relive the movie, as this is clearly the most accurate Ghostbuster game ever made. Using the proton beams and struggling to throw a monster into a trap. Additionally, they used a lot of material that was intended to be in the original movie but was taken out or changed over the evolution of the story, so it actually fits in pretty well overall. So like I said, Ghostbusters never got an accurate to the franchise game before, and this game is about as accurate as it has ever been and doesn't kill the franchise. |

I don't know, I've always found it odd when movies have sequels that are decades apart from one another. Especially if one only saw the original once or twice, max. I had that same "what the heck is this?" feeling watching Dumb and Dumberer, for example. The movie assumed familiarity with the characters I didn't have, which is bizarre when movies are supposed to be stand alone.

Slimer is the green ghost in the hotel that liked to eat food and would run through people and cover them in green slime. He's as iconic as the marshmallow man. Gozer was the final boss and was pretty forgettable, so I don't blame you.
And it can be pretty weird to have Ghostbusters 3 (the game is basically 3) to come out on the 25th anniversary, but it took 25 years for gaming technology to catch up. Originally the creators did want to make a third installment, but everyone had gotten way too old to keep acting, so the game allows us to essentially go back in time and do what can't be done in RL. EDIT: I'd also like to state that Dumb and Dumber has never been a good franchise. Last edited by Loki; 06-18-2009 at 07:30 PM. |
