Completed Case 4 -- and with that, the entirety of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney! It was a fun ride. I've said it once, I'll say again: I think this game is undeserving of the bad rap it gets. Yes, it has its fair share of flaws or disappointments. Yes, some of the disappointments are especially large. But the game does so much right too that I just can't help but to rate it highly.
In the past, I've been known to opine that the fourth case of this game is the best case of all. (Or the best case of all at the time when the Miles Edgeworth games were the newest games out. Can't speak for Versus or AA5 yet. Sorry!) But how do I feel now, in 2015, having just replayed both Games 3 and 4? Honestly, it's complex. In short, and keeping the comparisons to just AA3 Case 5 and AA4 Case 4, I feel like AA4 Case 4 is the better first-time experience but that AA3 Case 5 holds up better on the replay. A lot of AA4 Case 4's magic is in the mind blowings. Oh, the oh-so-many mind blowing plot twists! So, so many. And so, so good! But once you know them, you know them. And you never forget them -- not even with all that I have managed to forget! -- because they're just too memorable to be forgotten. This means that all AA4 Case 4 has left for it are the non-surprises. How good the story holds up on repeat viewings, how fun the gameplay is, how exciting the climactic finish is, etc. And in all of these respects, I think I gotta hand it to AA3 Case 5. Granted, this is like being asked to choose which of one's children is their favorite. Why can't I just say that I love them all? Whether AA4 Case 4 beats AA3 Case 5 or even any of the other AA cases or not doesn't matter: what matters is whether it's a good case in its own right or not. And yes: it's a good case. Apollo Justice is surprisingly shorter than I remembered it being. Granted, it only has four cases compared with its predecessor's five, but still. My final time was 22 hours and 21 minutes. If it's a question of getting your money's worth, well yes, you still do. (If we equate each case with a film, and at roughly $4 for the Case 1 movie ticket and then $6 for each of the other three cases' movie tickets, I'd say you're getting your cinema equivalent's money's worth. Spun another way, you're paying roughly $1 per hour of entertainment which is a highly favorable exchange compared with cinemas' approximate $5 per hour of entertainment.) Still, there's no denying that ~20 hours is kind of on the smaller side of things, especially with visual novels. (For comparison, a single path in the admittedly-lengthy Fate/stay night takes roughly 24 hours to complete, the entire game roughly 72.) Alright. Spoiler discussion time. And this time it'll all go in one box since, lol, it should go without saying that anything I have to say at this point constitutes end-of-game spoilers. Spoiler: show And with that, I declare myself now ready to take on Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright.

Hey, cool! I saw your first post before there were any edits made to it. Didn't think replying at that time would be too necessary. But hey, wow, you've gone and played so much of the game while I've been gone! :o
Glad you're enjoying it. Neat & fun to see how much we agree on things good and bad. As for Case 4, PREPARE TO BE AMAZED!

Completed Case 4. I was surprised at how this case did not take too long for me to complete, even though a lot happens in it and there is a lot of story going on.
In general, I found this game an amazing self-contained add-on to the Phoenix Wright series. Comments about case 4 and the game in general: Spoiler: show Some replies to Talon's comments about the games: Spoiler: show Some questions that I did not get answers for: Spoiler: show EDIT: Spoiler: show

Dead thread revived! After buying the Trilogy set, I have been binging on Ace Attorney for the past month. After finishing said Trilogy, my thirst wasn't quenched yet, so I bought this.
Overall, I have enjoyed all of the Ace Attorney games. The first game's cases were probably the most down-to-earth, meaning you can follow the clues much more realistically, and giving you a sense of discovery. The next two games were a bit too over-the-top, meaning you kept grasping at straws in order to try to explain everything at the last minute, which kills the sense of discovery for me. I thought the story in game 3 was excellent though, and it tied everything in very nicely. Apollo Justice seemed to combine the positives of the first game and the third game. It was down-to-earth enough for you to follow, and often think ahead of the main character. While I didn't enjoy the story as much as Trials and Tribulations, it was still very enjoyable. For specific things: (minor plot spoilers) Spoiler: show As for which game I like best, I don't know. Trials and Tribulations had two games before it to back it, and the characters up. Because of that, I felt much more attached to the story, and had more feels from it. Apollo Justice felt like a better game to "play", and the story wasn't that much below the previous game.
