Bulbasaur Beginner Trainer Battle: Itzatrap vs. gmoyes

This was a nice day for a random battle and that as just what was planned. The referee was left to choose the arena and so she chose one with the most amount of random objects within knowing that it would only add to the excitement and anticipation of each attack. The Energos Quarry stood awaiting its trainers who began to arrive one after the other before exchanging an informal greeting. They feel their hair begin to lift with the static produced from the electromagnetic field and laugh at how silly the other looks. They find the safest point in which to travel down into the quarry and make their way down towards the referee who was sporting a black hard-hat with a diamonte skull on the front. The trainers manoeuvre around the rubble and machinery as the referee smiles at them.

"Hello guys, I'm really sorry about the wait for your match but I've been a bit busy lately. One battle seemed to take months" She said with a laugh rubbing the back of her head. "Anyway we're all here now and ready for this Match of Randomness that is a Metronome battle. I have protective hard hats for you both, please make sure you wear them throughout the match ... I picked them out specially" She hands Rob a beige Hard Hat with a Sandile's face on the front and Alex a silver hard hat with a single eye in the centre and two magnets on the side.

"Okay lets go over the rules"
Itzatrap vs. gmoyes
Beginner Trainer Battle (Pokemon from Lv’s 01-25 used only)
Metronome Only Battle.
1 vs. 1
48 Hr DQ Period
Arena: Fizzytopia's Energos Quarry: An electromagnetic field surrounds this abandoned quarry giving Electric Types who battle here a power boost. A "pit" of sorts, the quarry is approximately 20m x 20m wide at its lowest point, the steep slopes surrounding it around 15 metres high. The quarry is filled with ores and debris as well as some abandoned machinery while small boulders and tons of rubble line its sides. Any Pokémon with strength enough to lift the boulders are able to use them as weapons.
She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Itzatrap to Heads and gmoyes to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Heads".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:
– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round.
- I will then ref the first round.
- Itzatrap will then order their attacks for the next round.
- gmoyes then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!
"I remember when, I remember
I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space"

Rob looked at the Sandile hat, saying "Boop" as he touched its nose. "Thanks!" he said to the ref, grabbing a Pokéball on his belt, and throwing it up into the air, bursting open as a light arced from the Pokéball to the ground. A Hoothoot stood on the floor of this magnetic field, head tilted as he stared at nothing. "Erm, Sylar?" The owl remained motionless, expressionless..."Sylar!" the trainer tried again, this time the owl had clearly heard him as he slowly turned, giving his trainer what many would be consider an evil eye. Slightly unsettled by this, Rob looked up, avoiding eye contact with the owl. "So, um, we are about to battle...try your best!" The Hoothoot quickly turned, smile on his beak, the trainer sighed in relief. "We can do this Sylar!"...unbeknownst to the trainer, the dark owl had other plans for the Pokémon on the field if he were victorious....

"Good luck! May the luckiest person win!" He said to the other trainer.

"Alright Sylar, start by Metronome-ing your ass off! Then try another Metronome! After that Hyper Beam Metronome!

Alex looked around the cavern with a grin on his face. While he was only here for a battle, he should come back at some point. The charged up stones must be a haven for non-biological pokemon. In fact, this might have the potental to evolve his Magnemite. Even if it didn't, his starter certainly would love this place. However, this wasn't Theta's fight. It was where Phi would make his mark.

And then he saw where the battle would take place. Thier ref was already standing by and she greeted both battler with an apology. "Ah, no problem. I'm in no rush," he replied with a grin and took his helmet. He briefly wondered where in world helmets like this came from, but then remembered that he was there to battle and took his place at the opposite end of the arena from his opponent. "Here's to a great match!"

He pulled out a standard pokeball and with a small toss, released the small psychic type inside. While it seemed to be asleep, Alex knew that it was just how he was. "Ok Phi, this is it. We can only use Metronome so let's just keep spamming it. Three times this round."
Both trainer's appear to appreciate the little touches to their helmets the referee had made and they take them with thanks before walking over to their respective trainer boxes. They both release their Pokemon, for Rob it was a rather sadistic looking Hoothoot named Sylar and for Alex it was a small Abra named Phi. Sylar looked like he would happily tear the Abra limb from limb but Phi appeared unfazed by the look as he levitated above the ground deep in concentration. The referee raised her flag and the battle of randomness began!

Phi was much faster than the Hoothoot and his eyes seemed to glow from beneath his lids as he raised his arms before him calling on his first Metronome. Suddenly a strong Tailwind blew from behind him boosting his speed allowing him to make his next move before Sylar realised what was happening! He moves onto his second Metronome this time opening his mouth and releasing a loud noise of Round, the multicoloured sound waves battering Sylar making his head hurt.

The Hoothoot has had enough of sitting still, now was the time to move. He uses his Metronome and soon his antennae glows a bright white as he uses a Rock Polish to boost his own speed but eating into all his Rock Energies to do so. Now he was a little closer to the Abra in speed and he moves onto his next Metronome. This time his large red eyes glow as he stares down Phi with a fierce Leer startling the Abra and halting his own Metronome attack.

Sylar appears pleased with his success so far and uses his last Metronome eager to deal some damage, and damage was what he was going to deal! His whole body begins to shake and he closes his eyes against the unfamiliar energy in his body. He opens his beak as wide as it will go staring into the sky, even Rob looks concerned as an orange glow emanates from within his body. He cries out in pain but manages to release the Draco Meteor into the sky, the orange beam reaching a point before breaking off into 10 smaller beams that rain down upon the battlefield. The referee looks alarmed as several strike the sides of the quarry sending rocks sliding down towards them. She releases her Hypno, Duskull and Gallade and Psychic Barriers form around the trainers as the rocks rolls towards them bouncing harmlessly away. The trainers looked spooked but then remember the attack and focus on the arena. Phi was on the ground smoking from a hit whilst several deep craters were formed from the falling meteors and several rocks had rolled onto the battlefield injuring both Pokemon.

"What was that?" The trainer said with a smile on his face, thoroughly impressed by the little owl's last attack. "That was fantastic Sylar! Metronome again, not once, not twice, but thrice! Go, go, go!"

Alex was glad that Phi's first move was one that boosted his speed, though the opponent's luck managed to match the speed boost. His own luck didn't stand up for much as Phi didn't get a chance to pull off a third attack and his opponent managed to use Draco Meteor of all moves. He was stunned to the power of the attack and he was glad that Phi managed to weather it. Now was his chance. "It should be tired from that attack, so use that time to use a Metronome. Then keep your eyes out for an attack that looks dodgeable and Dodge it. Put your speed boost to use. Finish the round with another Metronome. Just because this battle relies on luck doesn't mean we can't throw some stratagy into it.

Round 2

Wow! The first round had certainly ended with a bang! This was the beauty of Metronome battles, you never know what moves would be chosen or used. The referee had returned all but her Gallade who stood ready to defend all trainers against any dangers to themselves. Sylar looked tired already but with heavy energy moves it wasn't surprising. Phi had taken some decent damage from the Draco Meteor but still had energy to spare and both were ready to attack.

With his speed boost Sylar moves first his antennae glowing as he summons a Metronome. Soon Muddy Water forms around his feet swirling round round before with a loud hoot, he sends the wave towards Phi who is caught up in the water. Phi blinks and rubs his eyes as some of the mud gets in them reducing his accuracy. Phi can make out a the blurry form of Sylar and starts his own Metronome and soon fixes the Hoohoot with an endearing look. Sylar wonders what the Abra is playing at but he is already floating towards what he thinks is Sylar trying to Covet his item but unfortunately he mistakes a boulder for Sylar who thinks its hilarious and falls about laughing.

He composes himself long enough to perform another Metronome and he charges towards Phi ready to execute some Payback. Alex yells at Phi begging him to dodge and the Abra stops his conversation with the rock to float out of the way leaving Sylar to smack into the rock. He hoots in pain and totters back his head throbbing from the impact. Phi spots Sylar hearing his pained hoots and uses another Metronome this time producing a Spider Web that he fires at the bird. Sylar looks alarmed as the sticky substance lands on him pinning him to the boulder. He pulls against the webbing but is unable to move or get free, now he was a sitting duck!

Alex grunted as Phi took the hit of dirty water and ended up trying to charm a rock. Thankfully he had the foresight to call for the dodge. Otherwise the Abra would have taken a bad chunk of damage. And now their opponent was a sitting duck- er- owl. Now was their chance. "Ok Phi, let's get some damage done to it. Metronome, Metronome, Metronome!"

Rob looked at Sylar, trapped in a web, with nothing that he could possibly do to help him. "Sylar, use your beak and claws to break free from that web! If you manage to break free, use Metronome twice! If not, just concentrate on breaking the web until you do while trying to dodge whatever attacks come your way, the incoming attacks should help you be a little more motivated to escape!"

Round 3

Both Pokemon were tiring fast with Phi having taken the brunt of the damage from the attacks, but now he had his feathery opponent in a bind. The Spider Web was holding Sylar fast and now it was his turn for some retribution. Sylar starts pecking at the webbing feeling it loosen slightly when he spots Phi performing his first Metronome. His eyes look completely focused as he Locks On to Sylar's position, his eyes sending a ring of red energy that latches onto the Hoothoot. Sylar pecks at his bonds with renewed vigor and finally pecks through most of them but spots Phi moving into his next attack despite the longer charge time required! His second Metronome has Phi coating himself in steel energy as he begins to charge right towards Sylar with a Gyro Ball catching him and breaking the boulder he was attahced to. Unfortunately his increased speed made the attack very light and painless but Sylar was now free and ready to attack!

Sylar calls on his first Metronome and he released a bright sound wave of energy, the Round striking Phi and making his ears hurt. Sylar grins at the damage he's caused and he moves onto his next attack but this time his eyes bulge out as he draws on energies he no longer has. He can only look disappointed as his Roar of Time fails due to his lack of dragon energy. Phi has enough time to recover from the attack to summon his last attack and suddenly erupts into blue flame. Alex looks concerned as his Pokemon becomes covered by fire but he appears to be taking it in his stride as he recklessly charges towards Sylar with his Flare Blitz smashing into him and sending him flying into a yellow crane hitting it with a sickening crack before he falls to the ground. Phi sparks as he feels the horrible recoil damage dealt from the move and now he was out of fire energy.

(ooc: Draco Meteor and Roar of Time? You've got to be kidding me. Jeez my luck stinks)

Alex rolled his eyes as his first two attacks hardly scrapped the owl. While he was a fan of Gyro Ball, his own steel types took great advantage of the move, but when the opponent wasn't moving, that was a whole different matter. The Round stung the psychic type, but it looked like whatever move the flying type tried to use next, it couldn't quite pull it off. But Phi's next move was certainly impressive, it was the strongest hit they had managed to land the whole match. "Haha, yeah way to go Phi!" he shouted and pumped his fist into the air. "Let's keep going with Three Metronomes!"

Round 4

The last round had ended with a nasty blow for Sylar as he lay unmoving from his impact with the crane having really knocked the stuffing out of him. Phi was recovering from the recoil of the attack that caused the injuries and was first to move whilst Sylar was getting back to his feet, a little too slowly for Rob's liking. Phi's Metronome calls upon an Assist and so his eyes flashed as he drew on a move of one of his team-mates. Soon he lowers his head and covers it with steel and flies towards Sylar with his Iron Head. Sylar hoots in alarm as he's slammed into and thrown back into that wretched crane flinching from the suddenness of the attack.

With his opponent unable to move Phi is able to move onto his next move and draws on his second Metronome. This time he feels his body shrink until he's only a fifth of the size he was previously, this certainly felt wierd! With the effects of Minimize in place he was going to be harder to hit for sure! Sylar has recovered enough to pick himself up and puff out his chest angrily, he was going to rip that Abra's eyes out ... where'd he go? He then spots a little yellow form floating not far from him, how did he get that small? Either way it didn't matter he summons his Metronome and dives towards the little Abra with his False Swipe but totally misses the miniature psychic fox.

Phi doesn't show a shred of emotion as he used his third attack and began to spin rapidly on the spot. Soon large pink petals bigger than his small form spun around him and the Petal Dance tornado strikes Sylar who winces in pain, at least he was resistant to the typing in the attack. Phi finishes his spinning and he looks rather disorientated tottering around wondering where he was.

Alex grinned as his first Metronome called for an Assist in the form of Bravo's Iron Head. While Theta's Thundershock or Echo's Ancient Power might have been more effective, though in this case the attack stunned the Hoothoot. Just then a though stuck him. Assist battles would be just as random as Metronome battle, but the moves relied on the moves of the entire team. That would be something interesting to see.

Then Phi ended up using a Minimize causing the owl's next attack to miss by a long shot. While he didn't want to dwell in how a pokemon would be able to lose that much mass, it wasn't too important right now, even though he wanted to pause the battle to take measurements. Then Phi managed to pull off an impressive Petal Dance, though it didn't do much damage and ended up making the psychic type a little dizzy. "Come on Phi, focus. Use your small size to your advantage and dodge incoming attacks. If you see an opening, hit it with a single Metronome."

Round 5

How things had turned in one round, Phi had ended up on top not taking any damage whilst unleashing furious blows to his feathery opponentHis increased evasiveness was helping but right now after that Petal Dance he was left really disorientated, his species didn't do a lot of spinning. Rob and Sylar planned to use this opportunity to attack back, to exact some revenge. His opponent may be smaller than him but he wasn't worried about that, he would hit him for sure this time. He uses his only ordered Metronome and begins to glow purple. Soon a glowing purple rubbish bag appears before him and he launches the Gunk Shot at Phi who is crushed by the large object making him cry out in pain.

Phi finds his way out through the trash coughing at the foul smells within it and he glares at the large Hoothoot. He uses a Metronome of his own with no attacks to dodge. He begins to perform some intricate looking Acrobatic moves before punching Sylar in the face making him wince in pain and back off.

Phi's Minimize ends returning him to normal size and his Tailwind also comes to an end making his speed normal once again.

Alex grimaced. This round didn't go in their favour. Phi was caught by a strong attack and while they managed to land a big hit in return, the wind failed to be in their favour and Phi managed to grow back to his normal size. They were at a big disadvantage here but with battles like this, you couldn't be sure. "Come on Phi, let's be strong until the finish. Use Metronome Twice."

Round 6

Phi was unning very low on energy now but he had dealt a good deal of damage to his foe in the last round putting him in the lead. Rob and Sylar were being a little more cautious with their energy usage and this could seal the victory for them. He is ordered to attack only if he is assured he can hit Phi and since the Abra hasn't been ordered to dodge he goes on the offensive. He uses his only Metronome of the round and his eyes go dark as he concentrates on manipulating his Shadow. He sends the Shadow Sneak towards Phi where it rises out of the ground and slams into the Abra who shrieks in pain; what good luck it was pulling that attack out of the book!

Phi shakes off the pain feeling a little cheated but concentrates on his own attack and using his Metronome he begins to Plot all the Nasty things he could do to Sylar next boosting his special attack. He then gives a little wish for some good luck and uses his last Metronome and he floats over to Sylar. He grabs him in a vicious hold before using his Circle Throw the launch him back into the yellow crane he was so fond of. The attack doesn't deal much damage but Sylar was starting to get bruised from being thrown into metal objects repeatedly. Phi looks to be extremely tired now though.

Alex groaned as Phi took the first super effective hit of the match. While it was ok that it got the Nasty Plot boost, the fact that the psychic type went into a physical attack made it pointless. The Abra was almost worn out and Alex knew that they only one or two chances max of winning. And chances were slim. They would have to put that boost to use and hit it with something like a Thunder or Blizzard. He wasn't a gambling man, but he signed up for this anyway. "Phi! We're close to finishing this. Give it all you got. Metronome two more times!"

Round 7

There was good luck and bad luck all around and it appeared that Phi had most of the bad luck. His trainer knew that he didn't have too much energy left and hoped that he would get a little bit of good luck to finish the round off whilst Rob was planning on avoiding any potentially fatal attacks.

Phi charges up his dwindling energies into a Metronome and this time pulls his fist back charging up Ice Energy into it. Alex couldn't believe his luck as his Pokemon floats towards Sylar who has orders to dodge. He tries to dodge but is cornered against the yellow crane. He tries to dive to the side but as Phi throws his Ice Punch he hoots in agony as it catches his foot freezing it over and dropping him to the ground. He shivers and collapses to the ground from the pain unable to take any more. Phi looks totally shocked and collapses too, too exhausted to continue on. Both trainer's look on wondering what would happen now, what would the referee's decision be? She looked thoughtfull and conferred with her Gallade who was replying the action in a psychic bubble. They both nod coming to the same conclusion.

"Abra managed to KO Hoothoot before he collapsed from energy loss so I rule that Alex and his Abra are the winners!"

Rob can't believe it and can't help but feel that Lady Luck was smiling down on them at the end.

Congratulations to gmoyes and Phi. This was a really close battle and Lady Luck shone on you with your last move. This is why I love Metronome Battles, I never know who will come out on top, things can change so quickly.
For his victory Phi receives this . He also receives two levels.

Commiserations to Itzatrap and Sylar, you just had some bad luck at the end with your draw of moves and the poor number for your dodge. There were points I was sure you were going to win but that's the beauty of relying on luck. Sylar receives 1 XP for participating in the battle.

The flying type tried to get away from the punch, though was pinned between the psychic type and the crane. The bird was struck by the attack and fell to the ground. "Yes!" he shouted pumping his fist into the air. But he froze as Phi fell to the ground along with it. Alex looked over to the ref who was in conversation with her Gallade. It was a tense moment before she turned to the trainers with her announcement.

"Abra managed to KO Hoothoot before he collapsed from energy loss so I rule that Alex and his Abra are the winners!"

Alex's jaw dropped, then punched the air. "Yeah! We did it!" He rushed up to pick up his victor, who was recovering. "We did it Phi! Awsome job!"

'...sorry...'

Alex paused and blinked, looking a little stunned. "Phi, was that you?"

'...yes...'

He grinned. "You're growing. This is great."

'...yes...'

Alex turned to his opponent. "Thanks for the great battle Rob. I'll remember this match for a long time. Luck never chooses sides. You could have just as easily won as I had. I wish you luck on your jouneys." With that, the trainer left with his champion in his arms.

(ooc: Picking up trophy and raising Phi from level 6 to level 8

Thanks for the great battle Itza and thanks for reffing Arc. Hopefully this luck will carry over to the casino >.> <.<)

"Sylar!" The trainer rushed to the Hoothoot's side as soon as the ref declared the winner. Rob bent down next to Sylar, "You did great Sylar!" The owl barely opened his eyes, looking at his trainer, to which he would normally just squirm away from, but was too tired to move. Sylar then took a look at Phi and Alex, "Hoot-Hoothoot-hooooot..." the owl hooted, which translated to, "I'll get you my pretty, and your little Abra too!" but the trainer was too busy looking at the little owl's injuries to pay attention to what he said.

Rob turned towards Alex as he spoke, "Thanks for the great battle Rob. I'll remember this match for a long time. Luck never chooses sides. You could have just as easily won as I had. I wish you luck on your jouneys."

"Thanks! You too! Hopefully we'll have rematch someday, and when that day comes, we'll be stronger and luckier, right Sylar?" The owl just stared longingly at Phi with what little energy he had left, his prey had gotten away...for now...

OOC: Thanks for the great match gmoyes! And thanks again Arc for another wonderfully reffed match! Taking Sylar's 1 XP. Thanks again!
