It's Happening 2013 Edition
My theory: A very elaborate advertising scheme in Bungie's Destiny ARG

Why do you make a connection with Bungie?
The only thing that to me suggests this is fake/staged is that the driver remains quite ordinary and quiet during and after the great flash of light. You don't hear him feverishly muttering to himself. You don't see any change in his driving. (No slamming on the brakes, no slowing down, no pulling over, no speeding up like his life depends on it -- just very, very ordinary driving, if a bit atypical for the USA with all the overtaking he does of slower motorists, but that's very common in that part of the world.) It doesn't seem like it's until the very end of the video, when the arc of light is more symmetrically balanced in front of him, that he starts to comment on it to a possible passenger. To me, this makes it seem even more strange. One guy remaining totally unphased and just continuing his day-to-day business, MAYBE (but way, way unlikely when it's something like this). But two guys? No way. Humans are social creatures, and it's inevitable that ONE of the two of them would want to initiate conversation with the other of them over what they both just witnessed. Aside from that, the video seems perfectly ordinary/real and doesn't strike me as having any connection with Bungie whatsoever. If it is a Bungie viral video, kudos to you for being able to tell so specifically, I guess? But I'm curious to know what specific hints would lead you to believe this.

...really guys?
You didn't hear about the meteor hitting Russia this morning? The Bungie thing was completely tongue in cheek... |

EDIT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21468116 Well, consider me very, very surprised by how quiet they were and by how unphased that driver was. Very, very surprised.

I knew about the meteor, but I was more concerned at how insane Russia's traffic laws are (WTF that guy speeding up that much, and dodging cars going the other way like it's nothing) and the wrong date on the camera threw me off.

Dopple, have you seen the traffic in Egypt? Local streets are absolute madness. There are no directions on the streets. If you car can fit between the spaces between cars and go in either direction, you go there. My friends had no clue how to cross the street in fear of their lives, so they got into a taxi to cross the street.

Whoever did all the thread name changes, I love you. Well, not in that way. Unless it was Jeri.
But I didn't see much crazy in the driving, myself. I've seen much worse just in that States. |

The first thing I thought of was the Tunguska event. Luckily it was a small meteor and not one that was a few hundred feel across. Then we'd have been in for some city-leveling fun. The videos that have the sound of the explosion sound in them are much more impressive. Sounds like a huge bang followed by a burst of artillery fire (presumably smaller pieces of the meteor exploding by themselves after breaking off), just like descriptions of what happened at Tunguska.
Current estimates say that the meteor exploded with a force of nearly 500 kilotons of TNT! Yikes! That's as much power as Ivy King, the largest pure fission bomb ever detonated. Last edited by Lunar Delta; 02-16-2013 at 01:21 AM. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7mLUIDGqmw It's louder than in Namek's video, you can hear the glass just exploding out of the window frames. Awesome no one died. Pretty cool cosmic cataclysm.
