Being incredibly blunt and possibly insulting about it, the way I see it coins have only ever been amassed through a luck based once off post every week and events.

This is not a lot of work. I don't care how much your coin balance equates to, a post a week and the once off claiming of event rewards is really not that much legwork. I don't see there being much weight behind complaints of losing a high number of coins.

Shifting them into Poke Dollars in any kind of ratio will only ever lead to one of two situations: newer members will end feeling like they've been severely disadvantaged by having never had access to such an easy way of garnering currency (even if FB isn't a competitive game in nature, this sentiment will show) or the older members will be just as irritated because they've been shortchanged in some manner. Driving people away obviously is not a healthy intention but being honest about it I would find more newbies sticking around to be more beneficial than keeping around the odd older member who is going to feel put out enough about this to leave.

Speaking from the point of view of someone who has made decisions in the past which annoyed longstanding members of ASB, you will always want to err on the side of placating newer members. Making it more obvious that there is a humongous gulf between newer members and those who have been around for ages is only ever going to alienate newer members.

Although I am all for getting rid of the use of coins entirely, I stand on the opposite end of Connor's stance.

Yes, it wasn't hard to get coins per say: Just post in the casino, collect some in events, and done. It's not a lot of "legwork". I agree with that. However, because the casino was luck-based thing AND the stuff you could get from the CfP had ridiculous prices, making it near impossible to save up enough coins for what you want to get. The problem is not "legwork", but TIME.

From my personal experience, I always wanted nothing but the Pokémon in the CfP: Eevee, Porygon, and later on certain event(s?) Dratini and Ditto. But in all the years I've been on FB (and I'm not including the time I wasn't active), I never, ever saved up enough coins to even have a glimpse of a chance of getting what I want. The only way I was able to get Eevee was through trades, but still never had the chance of getting my hands on the others. It's not for nothing I took Porygon as my starter on my reset: I did not want to relive the "fight" of getting him again. That said, I have kept my coins in my soft-reset, because I didn't want all those 160k coins that took me years to save up (like all the other things I was able to accumulate) to be all for nothing. I want them to be at least of use for something, anything, that would sort of compensate the pain of all that waiting to get a prize that was starting to feel like Godot - to never come, but still hoping it will.

...And now you're telling me that what I spent years to amass, that I decided to keep on my giant of a reset, that they are now worth nothing, and I truly can't get ANYTHING with them, ever? No. Just... NO.

I understand that it'll be not fair for new members who really never got the chance of getting coins in the first place see those FB vets who do have coins get stuff. I know the feeling back from when I started FB, wanting to get an Eevee but just couldn't. But I understood that it was normal BECAUSE I was only starting. Just like any video game, you start with almost nothing, and with time, we can get things. And I did take that time. But seeing that time having a chance to go to complete waste just... pisses me off. It's not that fair that new members doesn't have much when they start, and can't get stuff they want on the get go. But I believe it's even less fair to see those who were previously newbs spending time to work on what they want, and now that they're veterans and didn't quite reach the point of what they want have suddenly being told "Fuck you, all you did was for nothing. What you got now is worthless. You get nothing. Not even the things you could get. Goodbye."

Therefore, although I am for getting rid of coins, I am opposed to not do anything about those who has coins already. It might be unfair for those who doesn't have much coins, but it would be unfair for those who invested their time saving those coins to get nothing from them.

Here's what I think could be a solution to the problem: Have one last coin-based event that would sell all things CfP (including stuff seen in those "rotations" and previous CfP events) at a discount price, and on top of that, give a good amount of coins (perhaps 100k?) only to the younger members, determined by either the date they joined (only those who joined in the last 4 years?) or the number of coins they currently have (less than 150k?).

That way, those who has been around FB for a long time and/or has amassed a lot of coins can get what they want (or at least use the coins in some way) before coins are nuked to the sun, but those who are new and/or haven't got any luck at getting a lot of coins will get a buttload of them to join in the fun, so not only they're not left out, but it equal things out a bit in terms of fairness between vets/newbs.

What about those vets who wasted their coins and their time spendings millions on bases and trading cards? Things that are, by the way, looking to be priceless on one end, and utterly irrelevant by the looks of it on the other. Do they get compensation? Not that I'm really complaining, mind you, but just making a point: someone is always gonna feel butthurt by the end of it, and it's difficult to truly determine what makes a fine solution. When it is said, for instance, "oh let's give a huge sum of cash only to newbs and ignore the rest because they surely spent it wisely", that kinda ignores the fact that the game changes with time, and it is impossible to predict how well or badly said change is going to hit you. And what makes this complicated is that how badly people get screwed is all very subjective. I would propose, however, that perhaps the simpler solution would be to just suck it up and take the loss.

I personally think that Balmund is right: no solution is really going to work and I think saying we need to scrap coins but then insisting we give people a way to spend them is a bit having your cake and eating it too.

I have an idea. No idea if it's any good, but I'm throwing it out there all the same.

The CfP Clearance Sale happens. Everything the CfP has ever sold in the past- TMs, evolution items, what have you, they're all available, and at reasonable prices. BUT! There is a restriction- there is a maximum amount of coins each member is allowed to spend. For the sake of example I'll say 30,000 coins, but obviously this is extremely flexible and can and should be changed to whatever we'd deem more reasonable. This is to ensure that people with insane coin balances cannot go nuts, like buy enough TMs to make their entire team's movesets put my Qwilfish to shame, or pull an emp and buy a whole litter of Eevee, or something like that.

Now, obviously that leaves the issue of, what becomes of the remaining coins for anyone who has more than 30,000? Do they just go to waste? No. My thinking is, we offer members with more coins than they could spend at the clearance sale an opportunity to help the members who would have less to work with in this clearance sale. Members with >30,000 coins are allowed to put their remaining balances together, and from these collected coins, members with <30,000 coins would be allowed to withdraw coins until they have 30,000 (or until the collection runs dry), upon providing sufficient proof that they actually have fewer than 30,000 coins, of course. And at the end of the sale, if there's still coins left over, we could convert them into Rare Candies or something, and have some sort of contest to see who gets to win them. I have no ideas for what the contest should entail, but it should be something any member could feasibly be expected to do, so as to give each member a fair shot at the prize. In fact, if the contest would entail RPing, the remaining coins could be turned into Pokédollars instead.

The gist of my idea;

1: CfP clearance sale with maximum spending limit per member. Members with more coins than they can spend donate their excess coins so members with fewer coins can still participate.

2: Leftover coins that weren't claimed by poorer members get converted to something else, which becomes a prize to be won in some sort of contest.

I don't know if this would work, but... I mean, it'd ensure that members with no coins get just as much chance to buy stuff as members who are filthy stinking rich. It'd ensure that members practically swimming in coins can't make insane purchases that newer members could only dream of. And it'd ensure that any coins left over get turned into something else that any member of the community can have a shot at winning somehow.

I would be down for this MM, even if I end up being on those who can't use all of my coins due to the limit.

I dunno what the exact number of coins would be the maximum, but I would suggest it would be equal to whatever price a Porygon (or whatever the highest-priced Pokémon) will be with said clearance, so everyone has a shot at getting what they want. If not, then it would be a good idea to simply remove the things that cost more than the spending limit, because that's just being a tease ^^;

If we go ahead with being able to sell Pokemon for the clearance sale, maybe we limit that to one per player? That way people can still spend coins on a Pokemon without spending a super huge amount of coins on them.

If we stick to MM's suggestion, that wouldn't be a problem- all of the CfP pokemon cost a lot more than 30,000! Unless you're calling for 'slight' price drops in that regard?

Reminder that 30,000 was merely an example, and by no means an actual suggestion for the spending limit.

Part of me wants to suggest an even more extreme version of MM's idea, just to see what y'all think:

Everyone with a coin balance above 0 gets to pick ONE Pokemon that was on offer at the CFP. Those who do not want a Pokemon get a prize pack made up of CfP items. Balances are then wiped.

I would actually be completely fine with Marion's idea; those of us who want Pokemon out of the deal get at least one of their choosing, regardless of how many coins they had, so there wouldn't be as big of a worry of getting gypped.

One thing I probably should've asked about earlier: what do we do with items like Rare Bones once we scrap coins? Are they going to be worth Pokedollars instead, or what else could we do with them?

I would be fine with Marion's idea, makes it seem less unfair to the newer members and less like the vets are gonna be gyped.

I'm also fine with Marion's idea. I think most people, with few exceptions, were saving up for CfP 'mon. Those who weren't were saving up for bases, and those are almost certainly becoming free now. If we return the coins older members spent on bases, and take into account the coins from Starter Packs, almost everyone should have a non-zero sum of coins -- including my broke ass (200 coins, woo!).

I think this is a great way for people to cash out their coins and then we either be done with them (my vote), or at least start at a clean slate for us to move forward at if that's what we want to do.
