The Pangoro turned to you after letting the “ball” drop to the ground, unmoving, A metal clang reverberated about the clearing as it fell. The pokemon that looked you dead in the eyes was a bit of an abomination… in fact, now that you could see it up close… it looked extremely malnourished, not only that but you could see that the fur was matted all across its body and was patchy all over as if it either ripped its own fur off or had it burned off of it and it regrew slowly…

There were scars all across its snout and eyes giving it a rather weathered and battle-scarred look… but it was more than that. This Pangoro had no eyes in its sockets where there should have been. In fact, now that you looked closer and squinted in greater detail you could see that half its skin was falling off of its skull. This Pangoro was not alive anymore. By the looks of it, it hadn’t been for ages. You turned to look at the hooded pokemon that was reptile-like in nature and you could see that the poor pokemon was just the same. A dead animated corpse.

A tinkling bell-like laugh came from the only pokemon left that even remotely looked close to being alive… “How adorable, Do you guys see how funny this human is?” The brown and black mass of fur sitting atop the mouthless Jack-O-Lantern with glowing green eyes stared intensely at you, its body jiggling up and down as if it was laughing, its fangs gleaming in the harsh sunlight.

This was... unexpected... How would you deal with this situation?

As you dip beneath the waves, the sun was setting on the water’s edge. It’d be nighttime soon, which meant that you’d for sure see these Pokemon poachers one way or another if your gut instinct was correct. One thing Qunicy warned you about was how deep the Aquamole could safely go with you inside it. You shouldn’t go down deeper than five miles or about 10k meters. He trusted that you’d be safe diving at that depth within the subnautic machine but he cautioned against surfacing fast, IF you had to you were to use Kingdra in such an event. Quincy didn’t fully explain what would happen should you surface fast, and it was probably for the best you didn’t think about that danger right now when you first have to focus on at very Least, finding an underwater base.

As you were diving, Epoch somehow managed to fit inside with you, popping in and out of the machinery to look as you dive, but the digital pokemon’s antics were abruptly interrupted as Krelia’s earbuds you were given started to glow and give a soft pinging beep.

That was a good sign, She was somewhere under here… Now to figure out where.
Krabby, who had been holding onto the Aquamole as you made your way down, tapped on the visor and pointed a crooked claw in ahead of you, where just barely within the line of the sub’s light, you could make out some form of a line?? Suspended above most of the ocean floor by beams and making what looked to be a runway track.
Ping.

Manning the Aquamole came surprisingly naturally to Elijah. It only took a few minutes of Quincy's explanations before he was able to pilot the submarine through the depths of Cape Effervescence, the sunset on the horizon quickly giving way to an endless expanse of blue. While he'd initially invited the Krabby into the cabin, the River Crab Pokémon opted to just hang onto the outside of the vessel instead—Elijah guessed that he was way more comfortable out there in his natural habitat.

Ping.

Elijah adjusted himself in the seat, trying to get himself a little more comfortable. He'd been combing the ocean for about 45 minutes now with absolutely no sign of Krelia or the aquatic bandits. It was just him, alone, trying to ignore the various blinking lights that seemed to try to be as distracting as possible. Very alone, in fact. He couldn't even spot any Pokémon down here, presumably a result of this wild poaching operation that he was trying to get to the bottom of.

Ping.

Elijah reached over to one of his Poké Balls and pressed the white button in the center, releasing Epoch with a satisfying click and a flash of light. He figured that the Porygon would serve as a good companion for the trip into the depths, seeing as they weren't really the kind of Pokémon to be that contentious with him. In fact, they weren't supposed to have a personality at all, which meant that Elijah still found it strange when he found that the virtual Pokémon had started investigating the cabin.

Ping.

"Aaaaaaand we just hit the one hour mark. Great." Elijah's words dripped with sarcasm, obviously bored out of his mind. "Is there actually anything down here or have I just been floating in circles this entire time?"

"?!!?!?!! ?!!??!?! ?!!??!?! ?!!!???? ??!????? ?!!??!!! ?!!?!!!! ?!!?!??! ?!!?!!!? ?!!??!!!"

"Uh, yeah, sure. You do you, bud."

As it turned out, Epoch had somehow started speaking their own weird computer language along the way and Elijah hadn't noticed until a few minutes ago. The way it sounded was just off, but what was especially odd about it was that nobody could understand them; he brought out his Fomantis just to see if she could understand it, which resulted in a confused pink-eyed stare. He recalled her afterwards, not wanting to have to deal with trying to explain something that he didn't know anything about.

"Hey, do you do anything for fun or something? I could use a little entertainment around here." Elijah asked Epoch, who quickly responded by starting to zap in and out of the various systems in the submarine. He caught his breath for a moment before remembering that it was just a normal thing that Porygon did.

Pingpingpingpingpingpingpingping

Uh... what? He knew that Epoch was flying left and right through all the computers in the Aquamole, but everything was left untouched, except for the radar. Epoch didn't really seem like the type of Pokémon to mess with something mission-critical like that, which unnerved Elijah—what in the world was that Porygon hiding? He was about to ask when he heard something else.

Beep.

The sound reverberated in his right ear, satisfying like air conditioning after a long walk on Route 4 in the dead of the Unovan summer. That meant that Krelia was somewhere around here, and it wouldn't be long before he found her. In fact, "wouldn't be long" was even shorter than he thought, as he was quickly alerted by a red claw rapping on the window at the front. A huge runway lay just above the ocean floor in front of him, and the Krabby was urging him to get a closer look.

"Score," Elijah said triumphantly. "Let's check this sucker out."

You take the glowing shards of the tombstone and start to piece them together. You try out a few different word combinations, but none of them make sense... Or see that the shards even fit together in the ways you were doing them. There were definitely more letters that you needed to find, but the question here was how'd you find more?

Cleaning the dress gave you letters originally, so perhaps investigating the rest of the weird things happening at the grave would help? There was the burnt incense, as well as the goopy flowers. It looked like these two other things would reveal more of the letters.

The question was though, what were they here for? The flowers, on closer inspection, looked to be a species you'd never seen before. Even with the fermentation, the petals remained, even if the stalks were mush. That was certainly... interesting.

As for the incense, you could tell that the ash pile was a lot larger than a singular burnt stick. It was almost as if there was something else burnt there, to try and get rid of something related to this child's grave. If there was a hint, whatever was happening to both of these things was connected to the dress in some way. Of course, the question was which part to tackle first.

What do you do?

Shocked by the existence of zombie pokemon Marietta briefly breaks character, a shocked expression forming on her face as she processes the information before she snaps back to reality.

Clearing her throat she returns to her usual demeanor, tearing her eyes off of the zombies and focusing them on the laughing Pumpkaboo. "Ahh yes um, Greetings sheppard of unliving! As I hath decreed my companions and I seek the aid of you and your uhhh...friends in obtaining information on the surrounding kingdom, these metal balls and now even if you would honor us with the tale of how you and yours came to be as you are now".

"Rest assured my dark servants and I ask not for your knowings with no intent on helping in turn, should there be any that your party needs we shall gladly assist you or other locals in exchange.

Marietta then kneels before the Pumpkaboo and motions for her pokemon to show similar respects. Houndour proceeds to sit down by her while the newly named Phantom simply joins the Pumpkaboo in their laughter.

"Yeah... these definitely don't fit," Argyle sighed in defeat. He was trying to make the letters fit each other, but nothing came of it. It was clear that he had to discover more pieces. How did he do that? Well, these letters somehow turned up after dealing with that dress. Perhaps he had to just tackle the other mysteries on the grave: the burnt incense and the flowers.

Argyle studied the flowers for a moment. "Never seen those before," he remarked. Not that he was an expert florist, but as someone who spent a lot of time walking around in nature, he had some familiarity with different kinds of flowers. These were unlike any he had seen. Despite being bogged down in water and the stems completely destroyed, the petals remained intact. Argyle considered pursuing the mystery behind these flowers next... but then he turned his attention to the incense.

The ashes could not have been belonged to a single burnt stick. Was the incense smell there to throw off visitors from dwelling too much on the ash? Maybe the goal was to burn something else that could shed light on this kid's identity. There was only one way to find out. Whatever else was burnt might still have some parts of it buried under the ash. Argyle knelt down besides the pile of ash to sift through it. He wanted to be careful as he did so - perhaps some small pieces of evidence might have been among the ash remaining intact so he didn't want to just brush it all off to see if there was anything underneath the ash. Argyle wasn't sure if he was actually going to turn up anything this way, but it was worth a shot. Worst case, he'd have cleaned the ash off, which he was planning on doing anyway.

Brushing through the ash, you feel small strands brush your hand. There was definitely something that was burned here, but what it was exactly, you had no idea. It was extremely cold to the touch. Was this spiritual energy, or just left here for a long time? It was hard to tell.

You try to fish out any pieces that you can, but all you get is a handful of these strands. This surely had something to do with the grave... Burning an object as part of a ritual was common, but why mix in the ashes with a stick on incense? If this was like the dress, it was part of something involving this child. Additional clothing, accessories, or it could've been something else entirely? But whatever it was, it must have a strong connection to the child.

You do notice, a small spec within the rubble light up. It was the letter A burning brightly and more intensely than the other letters. An additional clue to unravel this mystery. But, well, there had to be more here than just that. These strands were extremely important those this child, that much was obvious. Though, it may be a good idea to try and let your Pokemon examine them while you focused on something else.

What do you do?

"Uh... what was here???" Argyle was getting mildly frustrated as he tried to make sense of the ashes. There was definitely... something here, but what? Argyle had hoped that whatever had been burned hadn't fully burned and there would be clues. That hope was not realized. Argyle sifted through and through. All he could sense was the cold remains of whatever was burned alongside the incense, which was definitely interesting but didn't really give Argyle much to go on. Argyle was just about to give up with this whole ash business.

"What's this?" Argyle brushed off some of the rubble to fully uncover a spec of light. Was this the clue that Argyle was hoping for? Argyle looked at the small spec that was burning bright. It read the letter "A". Add that to the mysterious alphabet soup Argyle was compiling. He just hoped when all was said and done that the soup would actually be meaningful. Anyway, this letter gave him a jolt of inspiration to keep pursuing the burnt strands of something precious to the kid. With his newfound inspiration, he called over his Rowlet and asked him to inspect these strands himself. "Use Foresight," he asked of his Pokemon. It was almost reflexive at this point. Whenever there was some suspect spiritual thing going on Argyle had his Pokemon use Foresight to pick up something that might not be visible to the naked eye.

Argyle's ask also drew the attention of Spewpa who had been watching carefully as Argyle had worked his way through the pile of ash. The Pokemon looked longingly at Argyle hoping that the trainer would call on him to help out as well. Argyle thought about it. Silver had delivered sepctacularly when stringing the dress together, but he couldn't ask of the same thing here with the strands, could he? None of them knew what this was supposed to look like and these strands were so small, who knew how they connected. Perhaps instead the Scatterdust Pokemon could take a look at the waterlogged flowers? He had lived in that greenhouse, so he must have been accustomed to all sorts of flowers. "Silver, since you wanna help out, why don't you start examining those flowers and see if you can find anything interesting," Argyle nodded. He trusted his Pokemon's judgment. "We'll have to come up with a plan of unclogging the grave too. If you can find some water that hasn't been absorbed by the dirt, see if you can sow together something sturdy enough to absorb the water. A rag or towel of sorts if you will." That seemed like a far-fetched plan, but it was something. If that didn't pan out, he had at least one other idea of dealing with the water.

Mulling over what to do, you bring in the help of both Wisewoods and Silver. First wanting Wisewood's special eyes, you ask him to use Foresight on the strands. The Rowlett begins to inspect the strands for anything out of the ordinary, of a supernatural or another kind of origin. The Rowlett manages to figure out that this is definitely connected to the child buried here, as well as holds some sort of significant value. Though its exact make, he wasn't sure of.

You watch as he beings to rearranges the small strands that you have until it forms a sort of looped string. It was a very bare outline, considering most of its contents were burned up. But, from the look of it, it looked to be the string for a sort of necklace or locket. Great, more pieces to the puzzle. At least you knew this was definitely part of a bigger object.

As for Silver, the Spewpa begins to look at the flowers. As soon as the cocoon touches it though, the flower falls off and hits the ground with a *clunk*. Flipping it over, you could see that this was a sort of accessory clip. Maybe for hair, or perhaps a hat? It would explain why the petals were pristine compared to the roots.

But you do notice some sort of shriveled flowerhead where the pin was resting on. An optical illusion to try and detract from the actual flowers? Though, even in this state, it was obvious to see what flowers these were. Yellow Carnations. Very odd choice for a grave...

With both the pins and the strands leading towards more clues, you then have SIlver begin to use his string shot to create a rag of sorts. It takes a bit, but the Spewpa manages to create something absorbent. With it beginning to soak up the water, you see more letters being to light up. T E T. C H O R L A T E T. Certainly enough letters for some kind of name now. This perhaps could be the first step in starting to repair the grave.

What do you do?

Argyle watched as Rowlet's eyes lit up. What those eyes saw, he could only guess. Whatever they saw, it caused the Grass Quill Pokemon to spring into action. Argyle observed as his owl friend meticuluously took the remaining strands and shape them in some manner. When he was done, he backed away so Argyle could get a clearer look. The strands were now rearranged in the shape of a loop... as if they had been the string of a necklace of sorts. Was that it? A necklace the kid had? Maybe whatever was on the end of the necklace was somewhere here. Argyle frowned... or it was burnt up.

cluuunk

"What was that?" Argyle reflexively asked as he turned his gaze onto Silver. The Kalosian bug was surprised at something, but what? He watched as the Spewpa nudged another flower and...

cluuunk

the flower hit the ground. "Weird..." Argyle commented as he went up to the fallen flower and picked it up. These were no ordinary flowers. In fact, they weren't flowers at all. They were more like flower-shaped accessories one could clip onto hair or maybe something else. "The dress, the necklace string and now these accessories. These all have to belong to the kid here. Why else would they be here, but why is someone messing with them?" Argyle questioned. He was initially assuming that the soul of this kid was not at peace and was ravaging around in the graveyard, but why would the soul try to trash their own grave? That just didn't make sense... Then again not much of this did. After all, he was dealing with a haunted graveyard. A thing he thought only existed in kids horror stories. Argyle shrugged. He just hoped he'd have some answers soon.

As Argyle pondered, Spewpa was hard at work spinning up an absorbent rag. That snapped Argyle back to the moment.

"Great job Silver, now let's put that rag to use!" Argyle said. The pair watched as the rag soaked up the water. The result... three more letters lit up!

"C, H, O, R, L, A, T, E, T... CHORLATET... CHORLATTE..." Argyle smiled. "CHARLOTTE!" He exclaimed, "That's gotta be the kid's name." Argyle fervently began rearranging these letters to form the name.

With the investigations by your team done, and the cleaning almost finished, the last three letters light up. Working with the letters you have, you ponder for a bit and then realize that they spelled out a name. Charlotte. Shouting the name, the grave begins to glow, and the pieces of the grave begin to reassemble themselves.

Shards of broken, dirty rock float into place before swirling around the grave. One by one, they start to build themselves back up piece by piece, with the last pieces floating in the air with the glowing letters. One by one, the rocks form together until the name Charlotte is clearly spelled out onto the grave. However, the child's last name was too scratched out to even be restored. Why go to the lengths of defiling the grave without completely erasing the identity?

That was a question for another time, as you soon see the dress, strands, and flower pin float into the air as well. The three start to twirl together until you can see the faint outline of... something pink. You're then doused in water by the specter, temporarily blinding you. Rubbing your eyes, you soon see that the objects are now gone, with only a locket floating in place.

The design, well, was simply beautiful. A gilded, ovular shape adorned with the gem-encrusted flower. The same flower as the pin, in fact. It then opens itself, showcasing a picture of a young woman with a young girl sitting on her lap. While faded, you can see the young girl wearing the dress you saw earlier, as well as the flower pin in her straightened, ash blonde hair. You could swear for a moment you see the girl smile at you, but maybe it was the ghosts playing tricks on you.

Key Quest Item Floral Locket has been obtained! Also, for their efforts, Wisewoods and Silver have both been awarded two levels!

With this puzzle done and the grave repaired, you could feel the air around the graveyard started to flow. It was no longer as damp as it used to be, but there was still something clearly not right here. There was still the giant pond congregating spirits, as well as the locked mausoleum. Though, with this change, something else might've changed in the graveyard.

What do you do?

"Charlotte!" Argyle shouted as he figured out what the letters spelled. That was the magic word. What happened next was straight out of one of those fantasy movies. The grave lit up and it began to fix itself. Argyle, Wisewoods and Silver watched in amazement. Eventually, Argyle could see the name "Charlotte" on the grave. Still, something was missing. Even if what repaired the grave was some spiritual energy, it was not enough to fix up the last name. That left Argyle kinda empty... He had wanted to really know the who this kid was. The dress, the locket, the clip... These had all given Argyle glimpses into the person who had rested here. Now, he had a first name to go with those items, but no last name. Argyle painfully had to admit defeat on this front for now and find solace in having repaired the grave. Who knows, maybe down the line he'd uncover more things about Charlotte.

Speaking of the items Argyle and his Pokemon had uncovered... he saw them floating in the air.

He blinked.

Still there.

Not that he should really question that, after what he had just witnessed with the grave. The items swirled in the air and Argyle could make out something, but before he could do anything else he was hit with a hefty dose of water, causing him to lose sight temporarily. When he could see again, the items and the something were gone. Instead there was a locket floating.

Was this what was on the end of the loop that Wisewoods had pieced together?

Argyle snatched the locket up. The flower engraved on it was the same flower as on the clip that Silver uncovered... This locket was definitely this child's. Argyle hesitated for a moment before opening it. Inside was a photograph of a young girl sitting on the lap of a young woman. Argyle stared intently. The young girl was wearing the dress from earlier and there was that flower pin in her hair. "Charlotte..." Argyle whispered. Argyle was solemn as he looked at what he presumed to be a portrait of Charlotte and her mother, but he could've sworn the girl had smiled AT Argyle. "Please rest in peace," Argyle whispered... or was it more like a plea?

Argyle closed the locket. Then, the tears came. It wasn't a full on waterworks, but what the tears lacked in quantity they made up for in the intensity of the emotions Argyle was pouring into them.

He was crying for Charlotte.

He was crying for her mother.

He was crying for all the young souls who met a tragic end.

He was crying for his owned lost loved ones.

He was crying for those he would inevitably lose.

He was crying for everything time had claimed from those who lived. Didn't everything become a distant memory in the end?

He was crying for the fragility of life.

And just like a passing cloud of drizzle, the tears stopped. Argyle regained his typical reserved demeanor and faced his Pokemon.

"Thank you, you guys. I'm sure Charlotte will be pleased by our efforts," Argyle said, "Now, where to next?.. Oh! Did you two see that thing when the items were floating? It was... pink! Pink, pink, pink... Didn't we seem to see a flash of pink earlier? Was it the same thing?.. But it looks like hunting it down will be difficult. I have a gut feeling that we'll only find it on its terms when it decides to reveal itself to us. Until then... I was thinking of first checking out the drowned portion of the graveyard. Of course unless we see something new along the way." Wisewoods and Silver nodded. "Wisewoods, can you please fly up, locate the place and lead us?"

The Rowlet nodded and started its ascent. Silver looked longingly. Then, he started glowing blue! When the blue light faded, The Kalosian Cocoon was no more. In its place was a Kalosian butterfly with white wings and black tips. The Icy Snow patterned Vivillon smiled at Argyle and Argyle smiled back. "Awesome! Now, go join Wisewoods in the sky and get a taste of flight." Vivillon didn't need to be told twice. Argyle smiled. Thank you Charlotte, Argyle found himself thinking.

The pumpkin pokemon pondered around in thought for the briefest of moments before decidedly making up their mind on an answer.
“ I suppose I can do that, however, you did offer to help out in any way correct?”

How exactly this pokemon phrased its question did strike you rather oddly, why would it ask you to confirm that you’d help out in exchange for knowledge? What exactly did the ghoulish pokemon have in mind that warrant phrasing in such a manner?
Now that you were up close and personal with the Ghostly Pumpkin and its undead companions you could smell that the Pumpkaboo was the source of the sickly sweet scent, but both of the undead companions had a rather… putrid smell that could only really mean they’ve just started to get farther along in the decaying process. How they managed to stay upright and well… Mobile… seemed to be related to the pumpkin pokemon.

Another thing that struck out at you was that there were wound marks on the bodies of the Pangoro and the Scrafty that looked… well disgusting to say the least. But you could see that both of the pokemon had been in some kind of fight and whatever had bitten them caused their flesh to either decay or… become burnt beyond repair? You would have to investigate their bodies further if you wanted an answer on that matter. Before you could ponder it for another second, the Pumpkin Pokemon brought your attention back to itself by continuing to speak again.

“Well, I don’t have all of the time in the world, I’m very busy today so if you’re going to help me in exchange for knowledge, you’ll have to hurry along. I can sense the beasts roaming about nearby and I personally do not wish to have another encounter with such foul creatures”

As if on cue, you and your companions were all startled by a sudden howling that, while it was a ways off, sounded Erie and chilled your bones.

As you steered the Aquamole closer, there was no doubt in your mind that this was indeed some long runway or path that Something or Someone was using, and fairly recently too if you had to judge based on how clean it was, well for being under the ocean anyways.

Following it along you soon saw that this runway led to some… large cavern? The cavern itself was unnaturally large in size and… it had some form of a doorway?
The cavern was blocked off by a large shutter-style almost garage-like door that created a tight seal along the runway as far as you could tell from within the Aquamole.

Yup, you probably found the poacher’s base.

Now that you, presumably, found the base you had a few options here. You could attempt to find some way to open up the door and steer the Aquamole right into whatever waited right within the cavern in a guns-blazing ask questions later attempt. OR, you could park the Aquamole somewhere outside, and put on your diving suit, and swim about the outside to attempt to find or make an entrance upon which you could sneak in without drawing too much attention to yourself so you could try to find Krelia and “Rescue” her.

And by rescue, you were probably going to get her out of whatever sticky situation she had found herself in, Get back to the subnautican machine and get back to Quincy. From there you’d probably be able to contact the local authorities to get a better plan of action to bring these poachers to justice and rescue the countless pokemon that this base might have within.

It was really up to you at this point now to decide how to go about this, you mused.

Analyzing the locket and seeing that smile punched you in the gut. Well, metaphorically. You could feel the stream of tears breakthrough, feeling the pain and suffering of a little girl you never knew. But, this transient moment came and went, and soon you had a new resolve. Not only you but Silver as well. The Spewpa, seeing Wisewoods take flight, pushes past his limits and evolves. Wings pure white, confetti flicking in the wind like falling snow. The Icy Snow pattern was one of rigid beauty and the hard realities of winter.

Flying, soaring, and gliding through the air, your team scans Remembrance Park for any changes. Immediately, they can see the massive pond starting to shrink into something more of an overgrown puddle. The spirits continued their dance, but there was a positive effect in cleaning the grave.

Next to that, the flowers placed near graves looked to be rejuvenated. The spirits of the drown lessened, seemingly appeased by your kindly acts. Yet, they see no sign of anything pink. No ghostly apparitions controlling things out of rage and lament.

Following your starter and Silver's confetti, you soon reach the unnatural body of water yourself. A ring of ghost children, holding hands, are dancing around the middle of the body of water. You start to hear them singing a tune, a harrowing tune turned children's rhyme.

Ring 'round the rosy...

Pockets full of posy...

Ashes...

Ashes...

We all fall down!

The haunting melody soon stops as the children notice you. All of them bloated, decaying spirits. Waterlogged and drowned. Drip. Drip. Drip. Dripping wet from the ocean wave that claimed them. Even children must be laid to rest.

"Play? Play? Play with us! Play with us!" They begin to chant in unison, the pleas and cheers assaulting your mind. And as they chant, and plead, their ghostly bodies being to melt and merge together.

The sight was horrifying, the flesh melting off as they inflated and transformed. You see the flash of pink once more, dousing the spirits in water and dragging them around. Tentacles playing with the transforming amalgamate. But, you can't make out exactly what it is as the children transform.

And soon, a giant, bloated Trevenant takes root into the diminished pond. The water soon starts to corrupt, sprouting algae and turning boggish. The Forest's Curse was transforming the entire area into the swampy, forested bog that these creatures liked to make their home. You could see glimpses of the children's faces in the pattern of the wood, as the singular, crimson eye pierces your soul. The Trevenant lets out a distorted roar, ready for battle.

COME... PLAY... WITH... US!!!!!!!!!!

What do you do?

Giant pristine underwater runway, check. Gigantic airlock (probably), check. Ominous cave just sitting here in the middle of the ocean floor... double check. That sure was an undersea base if Elijah ever saw one. Probably one hell of an operation judging by how expensive everything looked. The only thing in question now was how to get in there.

The first, and most obvious way, would be to just bust into the base and ambush literally everything that tried to lay a finger on him. Sound concept, if he was trying to get himself killed. The next was to suit up and scout out the base for anything that looked like another way in—also a good way to throw himself right in the middle of danger's path, considering that he couldn't swim at all and he'd be virtually unprotected. This left him with the only other thing that he could think of—take a look around the base's exterior while he was inside the Aquamole. Not only was it safer than every other idea that he was drumming up, but he could turn tail and just smash into that airlock or something if things turned sour.

There was also that earpiece that Krelia gave him. If she could sneak in a whisper or two on the other end then that would help him a bunch—knowing her, she was probably keeping a watchful eye on everything that the unnamed crime syndicate was doing. Or at least he hoped, but at least hoping was better than nothing. He silently committed to being as talkative as he could to hopefully give the scientist on the other end a hint.

"Hey... ready for some espionage?" Elijah asked Epoch, who beamed in response... a little more excitedly than the trainer expected, but that was just a footnote in the long list of things that the Porygon caught him off-guard with. "Sweet. Let's see if we can find a good way in here."

Elijah swerved the submarine around the exterior of the cave, trying to remain as undetected as possible.

Satisfied by the cooperative behavior of the Pumpkaboo Marietta stands up confidently before surveying the group of pokemon, performing a series of intricate movements to disguise her intentions before meeting the gaze of the one addressing her.

"Indeed, if it lies within our powers to do so I Marietta always seek to aid those in need of our succor!" But prey tell firstly, what is it that one such as yourself could need help with? What's more, what are those soul-chilling beasts for which you fear conflict?

Seeing the increasing concern on the Pumpakboo's face and the unrest of their companions Marietta turns away from them briefly to release an additional pokemon from her stash of pokeballs. "Come forth dark dragon of the abyss, Stella!" Go forth with Phantom and see about buying our new friends here and us some time to continue speaking!"

Turning back to the conversation she simply says "Fear not, Stella here is my eldest and most powerful companion, please continue speaking."

With ever-growing agitation and concern the Pumpkaboo flitted about in a panicked manner and spoke quickly, it was ever clear that it did not want to be in this area much longer, strong allies or not.

“Something else on this island has been building up with its rage and outright hatred for humans and any pokemon that was once a companion to a human, What it is I know not but it has spectral powers, not unlike my own that allow it to animate corpses… Unfortunately, these were once my companion friends who lived with me for quite some time… but then They came and hunted us down…

After engaging in combat with these… Beasts we were able to flee and make it without casualties… until much later that is. Whatever creatures they are, they are not normal, nor mortal and I doubt you’ll be able to take them on without sustaining losses-” the Pumpkaboo’s ramblings were cut short by another, a much louder howl that sounded much much closer than the last, joined with at least three others.

“If you are foolish to engage in battle with these beasts Do NOT let them bite you or your friends, I cannot sit here any longer, IF you wish to meet up with me, I will be waiting by the beach, for whatever reason these beasts hate the ocean and refuse to go near it.”

With that last statement, before you could stop the pumpkin pokemon, it took off floating at a rather fast pace, before getting scooped up by its once-living companion Pangoro that lumbered at a much faster speed, also holding the Scrafty in its other arm. Right now you have two choices, you could either take on these… Beasts and attempt to defeat them in combat or you could flee with the Pumpkaboo to the ocean shoreline. What will you do?

You hoped that Krelia was listening in now, If she could that was, to help you help her however she could from the inside, as you decided to forgo leaving the Aquamole and steered it to explore the outside exterior of the base, praying to remain undetected by any form of sensors or cameras if they even had any.

Static crackled and all of a sudden you could hear someone talking, Some divine twist of fate? Whatever it is, you listened in as intently as you could, holding your breath for fear of being heard since it wasn’t Krelia’s voice you heard on the other end.

“Why was that woman fighting us so fiercely over this stupid earpiece? Even tied up and gagged she still managed to chomp down on Doug’s hand and kick Maranda to knock er over. ~

From the sounds of it after Krelia managed to follow the poacher’s down to their base, she was overwhelmed and captured, And Still managed to give them hell…

“I dunno George, but have you found that bloody Gengar yet? That suckers been causing all kinds of ruckus across the base and nearly broke one of the observatory windows like the damn fool was trying to flood the base” Akuma managed to get away, but somehow Krelia was caught??? Something bigger must be there that the ghostly partner couldn’t take on alone…

“I hear the bosses Pokemon, spooky thing that creep is, supposed to be hunting it down, Oh also what in the blazes should I do with this?”

“Toss it for all I care, we gotta get back to the boss”

From there you could hear a clanging noise as the earpiece was presumably dropped and abandoned as George and the other unknown poacher were making their way back to their boss. But they said there was supposed to be an observatory? Perhaps if you could find those you could find a way in, or at very least attempt to find Akuma

...So that explained a lot. Krelia doesn't have the earpiece, Akuma's running wild in there, and there was... some sort of observatory? Probably for spotting their next targets—thankfully, Elijah wasn't one of them (yet).

Speaking of which, keeping that earpiece on wasn't a good idea. There was no telling what would happen if he just casually broadcast his intentions to shut down the enemy to the enemy. Knowing his luck, he'd be locked up beside Krelia, have his Pokémon taken from him... not exactly a situation that he wanted to be in when he was playing the hero.

Playing the hero. Those last three words echoed in Elijah's mind like the ambient pinging of the Aquamole's radar. Here he was, some guy from Unova who only became a trainer out of necessity, getting wrapped up in some crazy scheme where he needed to singlehandedly take down at least some part of a criminal organization by himself. For the second time, actually. He pondered if this was going to come back to bite him, or—Arceus forbid—he'd end up doing this a third time.

Snapping back to reality, Elijah stuffed the earpiece in the pocket of the jeans that he'd been wearing underneath the diving suit and tried to recall what he could from the conversation that he overheard earlier. Something about an observatory... breaking the windows in there would flood the base... which meant that the observatory was on the outside. Bingo.

Elijah continued searching, keeping his eyes on the base for anything that looked suspicious. Obviously he had to keep himself out of harm's way, but with a little more sleuthing, he could probably figure out how to get into that observatory without getting caught.

What do you do?

Argyle slowed down as he neared the lake that had formed in the graveyard. Silver and Wisewoods flew down to his level and Argyle made sure to thank his Pokemon for the guidance.

"Wow," Argyle managed as he surveyed the lake. The weird stuff that Argyle had seen at Charlotte's grave seemed to only be the beginning of his foray into the spiritual realms. Now, he watched ghost children holding hands and dancing in the middle of the water. Listening closely, Argyle could hear them chant a familiar children's nursery rhyme.

Ring 'round the rosy...

Argyle gulped.

Pockets full of posy...

There was something about the way they sung. Or maybe it was the lyrics...

Ashes...

Whatever it was, it unnerved Argyle.

Ashes...

Argyle just hoped that nothing dramatic would happen after the last part.

We all fall down.

Argyle waited but nothing happened right away. In fact, the singing stopped completely. They had noticed Argyle and his Pokemon. In return, Argyle got a better chance to study them. All of them bloated from the waters that had claimed them. All of them dripping wet. Argyle knew it wasn't the kids' fault for being this way, but he couldn't help but feel at least slightly terrified of their images. Argyle had to find a way to get them to make peace with themselves and their tragic fates... Too bad he couldn't think on that further.

"Play? Play? Play with us! Play with us!" he heard them chant. It. Was. Terrifying. What was even worse, though, was that the spirits started to meld together as they chanted. Argyle was not a fan of horror movies and shied away from watching them afraid that he'd have nightmares. Well, he was for sure gonna have nightmares of what he saw next. The bloated bodies had their flesh melt off and were inflating as they coalesced into a single entity. Argyle managed to make out a pink entity seemingly dragging these other souls, but once again the pink managed to escape from Argyle before he was able to identify it.

The transformation over, what stood in front of Argyle was a Trevenant. Argyle shuddered at the sight. He wasn't sure what was more unnerving: the singular crimson eye or the faces of the kids etched in the bark. He also wasn't sure how long this would haunt his dreams. He didn't have the time to debate answers to these questions; the Trevenant was ready for battle. Argyle reaaaally didn't want to battle it especially knowing that it consisted of those innocent kids' souls. They had already gone through enough, but it seemed like a battle was the only option. Hopefully, in the end the souls would be freed and laid to rest.

"Wisewoods. Silver," Argyle said. The duo were more composed than Argyle as they faced the Trevanant. Argyle was relieved. They were going to need that composure. "This thing looks really strong, I think the two of you'll have to take it on at the same time. So, Wisewoods fly in for a Dual Wingbeat. Silver wait for Wisewoods to land a hit and get out the way then blast it with a Gust of wind," Argyle commanded. The Pokemon duo acknowledged their trainer and flew to face the towering Trevenant.

And here fallen angels bathe in their wages of blood. Giving your orders, both your Rowlett and your Vivillon take flight. Looking at the towering, hulking, wooden coffin of a tree, Wisewoods immediately dives in. Coating his right-wing, he beats the Trevenant, who lets out a groan that sounds... similar to a child's giggle? The Pokemon then flies away, poised to soon strike again.

Silver, seeing his cue, whips up his wings and uses a gust against the Trevenant. A small wind filled with icy-white powder and confetti washes over the tree, dealing a good hit of flying damage. The tree seems unphased by this motion and instead watches Wisewoods with its singular eye. As Wisewoods flies back in, finishing off the Dual Wingbeat with his left-wing, the Trevenant strikes.

You can see its hulking right arm being to be covered in a shadowy force, becoming piercing sharp at its claws. The Pokemon swipes down at Wisewoods, slamming the Rowlett into the ground with a critical hit! You hear your Pokemon let out a terrifying screech as its body slams into the water lake below, creating a splash.

While you and Silver are distracted by this, the Trevenant lunges towards the Vivillon. The horns on its head ramming into the bug and flying-typed Pokemon, leeching the life out of him. Even if the attack was quad resisted, it looked like it did a number on the butterfly. This thing was a hulking mass, giggling and laughing like a horde of children while attacking. And then it disappears completely, vanishing before your eyes.

The Forest's Curse continues to take over the field, and you can start seeing large trees and berries begin to sprout around the graveyard. The Trevenant was gone, but the giggling continued. It was decided who to strike, and you had no clue who it would be.

What do you do?

"Wisewoods noooo!" Argyle yelped as the Trevenant connected a vicious ghastly attack on the small Owl. Wisewoods subsequent fall also caught the attention of Silver who watched with the same horror-filled look that Argyle had. Big mistake... Argyle and the Vivillon should've known better to let their guard down against their opponent. Before either could react, the coalesced corpus of the cursed spirits of kids was already on top of the Vivillon with a Horn Leech. It didn't take a microscope to see that despite the butterfly's resistance, the attack sure did a number on him.

Then, the elder tree just disappeared. Argyle gulped. Where would the Pokemon strike from next? Unnerved, Argyle had a problem focusing on what to do next. The Forest's Curse was continuing its steady advance while the bearer of destruction lurked in the shadows. His partner Wisewoods was hurt baaadly and Silver wasn't doing too well either.

Focus...

Think...

Argyle felt for Wisewoods' ball. The least he could do was recall his Pokemon and save him from further harm. Would Vivillon be enough to face down this cyclops of a tree? If he could tap into some latent hidden power within himself, maybe. Argyle was being realistic. Things were bleak. As he felt his pockets, he touched Charlotte's locket.

Charlotte...

Charlotte was a kid who suffered the same fate as those that were now engraved in the bark that attacked him. Would it be too far of a leap to ask the Trevenant about her? Argyle could've sworn that he still heard the children giggle as the Pokemon had attacked earlier. Maybe those kids could recognize the name and help? But he had to draw out the Pokemon and immobilize it somehow.

Silver looked at his trainer as Argyle tried to plot something. Argyle met the gaze but then focused on the icy snow white wings of the butterfly. Typically a Vivillon would develop patterns based on where it evolved, but this place was no snowy wonderland. Why had the Pokemon develop that pattern? Argyle flashed back to earlier in the battle when the Kalosian bug had used Gust. Mixed with the confetti and wind was some icy white powder. Could it have been snow? Maybe this untapped hidden power that Argyle was praying for was a latent proclivity for icy and snowy moves.

"Uuuh... Silver," Argyle hesitated, "Do you maybe have the ability to use ice-type moves? You wouldn't happen to be able to muster up a Blizzard to freeze the Forest's Curse and the Trevenant? Then set up a Protect just in case against enemy attacks." What he didn't say out loud and was afraid that his eyes would betray him was that this was how desperate Argyle was. Then again, asking a Vivillon to use Blizzard wreaked of desperation, so he didn't really have to worry about his eyes betraying anything.

Vivillon was confused by his trainer's ask. He didn't think he had the answer to his trainer's hail mary of an order was within him, but he did understand and share his trainer's desperation. So, he had to give it a shot.

"Wait," Argyle shouted, "Let me recall Wisewoods back first. Then, you can give it a shot." Argyle held Wisewoods' Pokeball and targeted it at his partner. The rest was up to Vivillon.

Trying to think and formulate, you realize at this point it'd be best to recall Wisewoods and let Silver take over the battle. Taking out your starter's Poke Ball, you recall the grass owl and the hold Charlotte's Locket to the air. Maybe... Just maybe this would appease the hulking ghost tree. Or at least, stall it long enough.

You feel an unsettling presence from behind you, and see the Trevenant peering over you. Its arms are covered in ghostly light, ready to hit you with the full might of its Phantom Force. Luckily, Silver gets you back and manages to whip up a chilling Blizzard. You feel the cold air wash over you, and the frigid winds start to freeze up the Trevenant's attack.

The Trevenant begins to shout, descending into a mantra of madness. These souls were too far gone to be saved or appeased. The only thing you could do now felt this beast, and hope you could send them off to a peaceful rest.

Yet, they had more tricks up their sleeve and began charging a shadowy orb within their friend's hand. A massive shadow ball, larger than anything you've seen before, and tossed to completely envelop Silver. The Vivillon lets out a screech and starts to falls towards the ground. Though, before he could, he manages to catch himself. He was determined to fight for his friend, and exorcise these lost, restless spirits forever and ever.

What do you do?

"Rest a bit, Wisewoods," Argyle said gently to the ball that held his partner. Very rarely had the owl been forced into his ball, which spoke to just how dire their situation was. Charlotte's locket was a longshot plan of trying to appease the kids' who made up the ghostly tree, but it probably wouldn't work. Still, Argyle really didn't have the luxury of turning down the slimmest of chances. So, he held it out...

The Trevenant appeared.

But... it wasn't to inspect the locket. Far from it, it was there to strike down Argyle with a Phantom Force. Remembrance Park. Was this where Argyle was going to meet his fate? Was the Trevenant going to be his reaper? It sure seemed like it... The locket hadn't worked. The only thing that could've answered Argyle's prayers was Vivillon whipping up a Blizzard, but that was a longer shot than the locket. If that didn't work, why should the Blizzard? Things were definitely looking dark.

Nevertheless, there was a light among that darkness. The pristine, white wings of Silver still beat proudly in the sky. Silver reached deep within himself in search of the latent well of power that Argyle prayed for. As Silver reached inward, the weather started to chill. At first it wasn't noticeable, but slowly Argyle started to shiver. The Kalosian bug's wings flapped. At first there was the white powder from earlier, but then the powder got bigger. Argyle blinked. The powder looked like small snowflakes. Silver was doing it! The wings beat faster and faster. The white wings of hope launched a merciless Blizzard to the Trevenant. Just in time too. Silver had managed to stop the Trevenant from carrying out its attack.

But there was no time to celebrate Silver's newfound power. The ice attack pushed the Trevenant to further delirium. The cries of the souls pierced Argyle's soul. Who knows how long Argyle would carry the trauma from this horrendous battle. Not that he was out of the woods yet... who knows if he'd survive the battle in the first place.

The Trevenant charged up a massive shadow ball. Argyle didn't even know it was possible to amass that much shadowy energy into an attack, but this Trevenant was something else. Then, it fired. Argyle gulped. Silver was hit. After the ball faded away, Argyle watched as Silver fall down.

"Fly," Argyle whispered.

The Vivillon was headed towards the ground.

"Fly," Argyle whispered.

A heartbeat. Rather it was a wingbeat, but to Argyle the two were synonymous. The white wings beat on and Silver recovered the lost ground. Silver had taken considerable damage, but his desire to fight for Argyle and Wisewoods along with the will to lay those poor souls to rest fueled his fight. As long as that was the case, Silver would continue to beat those white wings and those white wings would serve as hope for Argyle amidst the darkness that shrouded this battle.

"Silver, try to keep yourself mobile in the air. Fire off an Icy Wind and create some distance between yourselves afterwards. Hopefully the chilling attack will slow it down, so you'll have time to boost your defense with a Harden. And please stay alert," Argyle ordered.

Silver nodded.

WIth your hope restored, you give Silver his orders. The Vivillon nods determinedly to stay afloat and take down the massive tree. These children needed to be saved, no matter the cost. No matter what, this was your duty. TO lay these souls to rest, just like what you need to do for Charlotte.

The white-winged butterfly whips and an Icy Wind, sending the frigid air towards the gargantuan ghost and slowing it down. The force of the winds also blows the Pokemon back slightly, creating distance between the two. This peeves the Pokemon, knowing that it would be harder to reach the Vivillon.

So, instead, it decides to use its ranged options. Drawing in the nearby shadows, it creates an orb of pure malice in its right hand. It then begins to charge it between both hands and then fires it off at Silver at breathtaking speeds. The Shadow Ball is a clean hit, and the Vivillon cries out in pain. No matter, it was still determined to fight.

Bracing itself for the next attack, your Pokemon begins to harden up. A silver aura covers the bug, boosting its defense. Acting as a sitting duck, the Trevenant takes this opportunity to disappear once more, activating its Phantom Force. Once again, you had no idea where it was. Yet, this might be a blessing in disguise, and precious time to prepare.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY!!!!

Vivillon's white wings beat rapidly in the air. Even though Argyle was standing behind his butterfly, he found himself shivering as the air got colder. Though, the brunt of the cold air was obviously meant for the ghastly tree of synthesized souls. As Trevenant got slammed with the Icy Wind, it slowed down and blew back a bit. This did create distance between the two foes as Argyle had hoped...

And the distance would've been plenty useful if the Trevenant only had close-range attacks up its sleeve. Of course that wasn't the case. Before either knew it, the elder tree had ripped a shadow ball towards the Kalosian bug.

"Vivi!" Argyle heard his bug cry as the sinister ball made contact with the Vivillon. Was that the end for him?

"Vivi." The Vivillon was determined. His wings continued to flap despite the harsh damage he had sustained thus far. It was clear that this was a personal mission that the butterfly was determined to see through. Argyle nodded. That made two of them.

As Vivillon hardened, Trevenant disappeared. Argyle flashbacked to the last time this had happened. The corpus of souls had appeared right behind Argyle ready to strike him down and Vivillon had only just managed to intervene and fire off a Blizzard. This time though Argyle and Vivillon would be ready.

"Vivillon brace yourself for an attack and Protect yourself. Then, fire off a Blizzard." Argyle ordered.

Argyle eyed Silver. The Pokemon was clearly awaiting for its opponent to appear. He'd be ready with the orders. Still, Argyle couldn't help but worry how much longer Silver could put up with this gargantuan beast. Willpower could only go so far... right?

As you made your way around the outside of the large base you scanned for very obvious windows. Maybe through sheer dumb luck or another twist of fate, you could stumble upon them?
But... What would you do once you got inside? There was some bigger scarier pokemon that Krelia's Gengar was having trouble taking down alone on top of who knows how many poachers and presumably wild pokemon entrapped within. Say you broke the windows and flooded the base. That would throw everyone unexpectedly underwater and chaos would ensue as people rushed to patch the hole and seal off other parts of the base. Who knows if the captured pokemon would be friend or foe to you regardless of if you tried to free them,... assuming there were many in there to free that is.

You didn't have a map of the base but if they were smart enough to hide their base underwater they were smart enough to have it sectioned off and have multiple entrances and exits... Wait... That's true, there Should be multiple entrances and exits.

Tap Tap Tap
Krabby tapped on the window of the aquamole and pointed its other orange claw to a light that you could see illuminating what seemed to be a pristine white wall. OH, That had to be the observatory deck, because there was a crack that ran along the middle of the glass. Akuma had to have been doing a lot to cause this much damage to it if he was alone, for glass to be used in such a manner safely it had to be at least several inches thicker than bulletproof glass.

What will you do and what's your Plan?
