The Channel 110 news van screeched to a halt as they came across yet another gargantuan obstacle. This time, their adversary was distinctly avian in nature, giving Diana a sinking feeling about her choice in keeping Passimian- Steakknife hadn't been able to catch the fairly major detail that the Normal-type that lay ahead was also a Flying-type.

My apologies, came Steakknife's voice in the minds of Diana and Marv. The atmosphere of this place does no favors to psychic senses- I had no idea we would be up against a Flying-type.

"It's fine, Steakknife," Marv assured his Ralts as he and Diana stepped out of the vehicle (Diana almost certainly needlessly gesturing for any of their allies who chose to ride along with them to also exit the van as she did so). "We're gonna handle this. Diana?"

"On it," nodded Diana, already taking a deep whiff of the few puffs of Sweet Scent Sweet was giving off to soothe her. Bright, meanwhile, fluttered overhead, carefully angling his Tail Glow to give just the right lighting as Marv fired up his camera. And on Marv's signal, Diana cleared her throat and spoke into the camera with remarkable professionalism. "At this point, our group has come across the next obstacle in our path- a Dynamaxed Shadow Tranquill," she said. "Going into this path, we only knew that a Normal-type lay ahead; as such, an opponent of this typing was unexpected; nevertheless, I remain confident that we can do this," she stated. And she wheeled around to face the Normal/Flying-type, Poké Ball in hand, though not for long as she heaved it forward. "Go, Passimian!" she called out as the Fighting-type reappeared. And if the sight of the blatant type disadvantage before it unnerved it any, it hid this very well.

"Pass pass!" chattered Passimian, looking up at Tranquill, considering what to do. Then, he turned to Diana, and did the same thing he did the previous time, miming the act of withdrawing a Pokémon, and all that came after that.

"...Right now?" Diana murmured. "You're certain... What the?" she murmured, for at that moment, epic music blared from the Channel 110 news van's radio. As Diana glanced over, she couldn't help but grin as she saw a tiny Electric/Fairy-type standing on the dashboard, flashing a confident grin and an adorable thumbs-up. "...DJ Skweekz!?" she half-laughed.

"Dededenne!" DJ Skweekz grinned back.

Diana nodded, her mood already lifted by her Dedenne's antics. With newfound confidence, she withdrew Passimian. "The latest scoop... as seen on TV..." she said as Dynamax Energy whirled around the ball, causing it to seemingly grow in size. "And now... time for Diana Macks... to DYNAMAX!!!" she declared, heaving the ball. Marv was quick to turn his camera to catch the ball's flight path once again, as the Teamwork Pokémon emerged, growing to tremendous proportions to match their avian adversary.

"Bebeat!" grinned Bright, adjusting his angle all the while to ensure Marv's footage had optimal lighting.

"Miiii se!" added Sweet, likewise emboldened by this.

Diana gave a smile and a nod, gesturing towards Tranquill. "Use! Max!! Darkness!!!" she bellowed.

OOC: Passimian Dynamaxed and used Max Darkness (100 BP; Base move is Beat Up (10 BP))

Dynamax Boss Shadow Tranquill
★★★★

Health Gauge: 68%
Shields Up: 0
Status: SpDef -1
Trainer Status: N/A
Weather: Shadow Sky (4 Rounds)
KO Count: 0

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Shadow Shed (0 BP)
  • Light Screen was removed!

Attack 2: Max Shadowsquall (95 BP)
  • Emi (Bagon): 257 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Klefki): 375 HP
  • Sneaze (Slowpoke): 375 HP
  • Missingno. Master (Passimian): 562 HP [Dynamaxed (2 Rounds)]
  • Emi (Bagon): 232 HP

The raiders begin with a quick volley, dealing a decent chunk of damage thanks to the Special Defense drop from Passimian's Max Darkness, as well as setting up a bit of defense themselves. Said defense lasts very little time at all as a Shadow Shed removes the Light Screen entirely, leaving the raiders wide open. This doesn't immediately matter much, though, as the Shadow Tranquill lets loose with a Max Shadowsquall, Shadow energy raining down from the skies in unbelievable quantities to wash over Bagon for a decently large hit, leaving a Shadow Sky to rain above for a time, the residual energy ticking away at all of the raiders.

Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master (Passimian)

With the strangely epic music still blaring from the Channel 110 news van's radio, spirits were up even as the battle commenced against the Dynamaxed Shadow Tranquill. Diana's rental Passimian led the charge with a powerful Max Darkness, and the others were quick to pick up on the way to proceed, bombarding Tranquill with powerful special attacks. The Slowpoke even let loose with a Glitzy Glow, which had the added effect of setting up a Light Screen- if Tranquill was gonna be letting loose any special attacks, they'd first have to get through this.

Or so they thought.

Diana gritted her teeth, holding her Illumise close to her for both of their comforts as Tranquill attacked with an unusual Shadow that forced its opposition to Shed their protective barrier. Without missing a beat, Diana wheeled around, microphone at the ready, speaking into Marv's camera. "Tranquill has just attacked with Shadow Shed!" she explained. "Unfortunately, that costs us the protection that the Glitzy Glow would have otherwise afforded us."

Unfortunate indeed, Steakknife's voice sounded in Marv's head. Tranquill get several special attacks. Protection from them would surely be valuable.

Definitely, Marv thought back. Though that Slowpoke could simply set it back up again, though they do have their next move to worry about...

Indeed, Tranquill proved this statement to be all too true by letting loose with a hideously powerful Max Move- the same Max Shadowsquall they had seen previously out of the Gible. And like last time, this left a sinister residual energy in the sky above, an energy that started to rain down upon the battlefield. Passimian gave a thunderous hiss of displeasure as he was struck with bursts of shadowy light.

"And the same Shadow Max Move Gible had previously used, now Tranquill is using it as well!" Diana was saying. "This seems to set up a weather known as Shadow Sky, which hurts all except Shadow Pokémon over time. For this reason, among others, time is of the essence, and we must defeat this Tranquill just as quickly as possible!"

"Mi se! Mi se!" Sweet piped up at that moment- in spite of her fears, she looked up encouragingly at her Trainer.

"Bebeat! Bebeat!" added Bright, likewise trying to encourage Diana, as well as Marv.

Diana looked over at the van- DJ Skweekz wasn't saying anything, but the music still blaring from the radio said it all. Diana knew that wasn't coming from an actual radio station, nor from anything inserted in the CD player, but rather from DJ Skweekz himself- the celebrity Dedenne was using Eerie Impulse to transmit radio waves, waves that their news van's radio was picking up on and interpreting as music. Music to match DJ Skweekz's current mood, no less, and if the epic, catchy beat was anything to go by, the Electric/Fairy-type was feeling pretty damn optimistic about their chances here!

With all this in mind, Diana couldn't help but smile, even in the face of Tranquill's bleak attacks. She looked up at Passimian, who was already looking down with the expectation of orders, and thus was not kept waiting long at all. "Again, Passimian!" Diana called. "Use! Max!! Darkness!!!"

OOC: Passimian used Max Darkness (100 BP; Base move is Beat Up (10 BP))

Dynamax Boss Shadow Tranquill
★★★★

Health Gauge: 46%
Shields Up: 3
Status: SpDef -2, Focus Energy, Fever!
Trainer Status: N/A
Weather: Shadow Sky (3 Rounds)
KO Count: 0

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Shadow Down (0 BP)
  • Klefki's Defense sharply fell!
  • Slowpoke's Defense sharply fell!
  • Passimian's Defense sharply fell!
  • Bagon's Defense sharply fell!

Attack 2: Focus Energy (0 BP)
  • Tranquil pumped itself up!
Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Klefki): 350 HP [Def -2]
  • Sneaze (Slowpoke): 375 HP [Def -2]
  • Missingno. Master (Passimian): 524 HP [Def -2, Dynamaxed (1 Round)]
  • Emi (Bagon): 207 HP [Def -2]

After a few blows pumped into the boss, the raiders come to a horrible discovery. Unlike the previous boss, this one has shields, which are quickly put up before the Shadow Tranquill's emotions rise to a fever pitch! A final blow by Bagon sees a shield taken out. The boss doesn't toss out any damage for now, though, utilizing a Shadow Down to decrease the Defense of the raiders before pumping itself up with a Focus Energy in preparation for the rest of the fight.

Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master (Passimian)

It was a mark of Marv's natural talent as a cameraman that he was able to catch all the pertinent action on film even as it happened all around him. Passimian launching the Max Darkness, other Pokémon following its lead and following up with special attacks, it was with deft movements and precise turning, both from Marv with his camera and from Bright with his glowing hindquarters, that he was not only able to get great footage of the action, but was able to do so with equally great lighting. Fascinating, Steakknife's voice sounded in Marv's head. You really do have a natural knack for this.

Appreciate it, Marv thought back. I tell you, Steakknife, I really do love my job. Far better than that dead-end newspaper gig back in Solaceon Town. I really owe those Unown a debt of gratitude... The Ralts seemed intrigued, but figured now was not the time to press the matter, for at that moment, there came a development nobody had seen coming (though in hindsight, probably should have).

Diana, however, proved no less professional than her boyfriend. The look of shock on her face as the Tranquill set up a shield was a brief, fleeting one, already thoroughly extinguished by the time Marv's camera was back on her and on Sweet (though the Illumise, clutching her Trainer tightly, was a bit less adept at hiding her shock). "And it seems that, unlike our last opponent, this Tranquill has the capacity to put up a shield," Diana said, facing the camera, speaking into the microphone.

Meanwhile, in the Channel 110 news van, DJ Skweekz was eyeing the situation. "Dededenne..." he considered. Then, making up his mind, he closed his eyes and focused, changing up his Eerie Impulse, changing up the nature of the radio waves he was transmitting... and the van's speakers began to play a different, even more rousing tune.

Diana could not help but crack a confident smile at this. "...but even in face of this development, this reporter, for one, is confident we will not fall!" she declared.

"Illumiiii!" cheered Sweet. Her Trainer's newfound confidence was proving most contagious, and now that the initial shock of the Tranquill's new shield had worn off, the Illumise was feeling a lot more confident in all this.

"Bebeat!" chimed in Bright. Likewise, the Volbeat was feeling good about all this as well. He and Marv made brief eye contact and nodded simultaneously, before they worked together to not only continue to capture the action, but to capture it with the best possible lighting.

Diana swiveled around to eye the Tranquill. "Shadow Down... Focus Energy... and Hyper Mode on top of it all... we'll need to take it down fast, which means we have to get past that shield fast- which leaves that to us!" she decided, turning her head to look up at Passimian, who was looking down at her expectantly. And Diana did not keep Passimian waiting any longer. "USE! MAX!! STRIIIIIIIIIIKE!!!" Diana bellowed, gesturing towards Tranquill.

OOC: Passimian used Max Strike (90 BP; base move is Tackle (40 BP)).

Dynamax Boss Shadow Tranquill
★★★★

Health Gauge: 24%
Shields Up: 0
Status: Def -1, SpDef -3, Focus Energy, Fever!
Trainer Status: N/A
Weather: Shadow Sky (2 Rounds)
KO Count: 1

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Max Darkness (120 BP)
  • Sneaze (Slowpoke): 0 HP

Attack 2: Razor Wind (80 BP)
  • Connor (Klefki): 188 HP
  • Missingno. Master (Passimian): 308 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Klefki): 163 HP [Def -2, SpDef -1]
  • Sneaze (Slowpoke): 0 HP [Must sit out one round to recover]
  • Missingno. Master (Passimian): 181 HP [Def -2, SpDef -1]
  • Emi (Bagon): [Disqualified]

After a moment, one of the raiders does not order, angering the boss which then slams into the ground, damaging itself while also causing a collapse of ground, cutting off said raider from fighting for the time being. The remaining raiders proceed to push down shields and get in a bit of damage in the process. Then comes some problems for the raiders as a Max Darkness critically strikes the Slowpoke, knocking it out while lowering the special defense of the others. This is followed up by a criticaly hit Razor Wind on the rest of the raiders for a decent chunk of damage. The Shadow Sky ticks away as Passimian returns to its normal size.

Dynamax Initiative: Expired
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to use 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.

Passimian's efforts weren't enough to fell the shield by itself- the Slowpoke's Bouncy Bubble was in fact the straw that broke the Numel's back in that regard. After that came a powerful Focus Blast from the Klefki, and from the Bagon... absolutely nothing! The Trainer hadn't even issued a command! And Tranquill was anything but tranquil in response. The big bad bird slammed into the ground, causing the Bagon and Trainer to fall away as the ground beneath them broke open.

"...It appears that Tranquill is displeased with the time it took for one of us to react," Diana spoke into the camera. Ever the professional, her voice only shook slightly, much as this had freaked her out. "Which is, of course, all the more reason for our commands to be given promptly in these most crucial battles." As she said this, Passimian shrunk back down to normal, and raced back out in front of Diana, glaring up at the Shadow Tranquill.

That was... worrying, came Steakknife's voice in Marv's head (Steakknife, of course, still being just a small Ralts at this point in time, for this was long before the Battle for Sludge Wave Coast). Seeing how fast Tranquill was to dispatch that Trainer and Slowpoke... Bright and Sweet seem rather unnerved as well, and in my opinion, understandably so. Marv chanced a glance- indeed, the Illumise was clinging even more tightly to Diana, and he could feel his Volbeat's grip on him tighten as well.

True, Marv thought back. But this is no time to panic. What we're shooting is going out live to the people of Fizzytopia as it happens. They don't want to see panic. They want to see calm, collected Pokémon Trainers, handily handling this situation. They want to be informed and put at ease at the same time, and it's our job to do just that.

Noble sentiments, Steakknife thought approvingly. And I take it DJ Skweekz's contributions are helping in their own way as well, he added.

I can only imagine so, Marv thought back, unable to conceal a grin- Diana's Dedenne was indeed still standing on the dashboard of the Channel 110 news van, still keeping the epic music going, and looked confident as ever even in the face of what had just happened. Rousing music such as this... it's certainly lifting my spirit, I can say that much.

Diana, meanwhile, turned back to face Tranquill herself. "The shield's down, and thus, so are its defenses," she murmured. Especially Special Defense, if that Klefki's last move was anything to go by..." She gave a decisive nod, then gestured towards the Shadow Tranquill. "Passimian, Focus Blast!" she commanded.

"Paaaaaass... sim!" Passimian exclaimed, charging up and then launching an orb of pure energy that would surely hit its mark. Aura Sphere it wasn't- in point of fact, Focus Blast was often widely decried as a viable move due to its less-than-perfect accuracy, but in a situation like this, with opposition the size of large buildings? They couldn't possibly miss! No, in these sorts of fights, rare was the occasion where power vs. accuracy was any sort of legitimate issue, and so moves like Focus Blast were basically all upside.

OOC: Passimian used Focus Blast (120 BP).

Dynamax Boss Shadow Tranquill
★★★★

Health Gauge: 0%
Shields Up: 0
Status: KO
Trainer Status: N/A
Weather: Shadow Sky (1 Round)
KO Count: 1

After a brief heal from cheering, the two remaining raiders lauch their simultaneous and identical attacks. It looks for a moment as though it is not enough to finish the boss just yet, but an explosion of Dynamax energy signals otherwise as the bird shrinks down to size, due in no small part to the stripping away of its defenses, and runs down along the path.

Please wait for the upcoming announcement to continue the Dynamax Adventure!
