Re: "Bang" - So long Toonami......
They jumped the shark when they showed the live action batman movie. You probably don't remember, Jim, but when it started, CN ran fairly constant commercials about no matter when you turned on the TV, any time, day, etc., there would be a cartoon on.
This is more like the shark eating what's left of CN's coolness.

Re: "Bang" - So long Toonami......
Well say what ya will about CN sucking cause I prolly will agree but at least some higher up cared enough to allow money to be spent on that farewell (not just the farewell itself but the commercial time it took up). But ya this just kills my childhood ;_; Action animation takes another heavy blow...

Re: "Bang" - So long Toonami......
Toonami's demise is a story of mismanagement of the Golden Goose, trying to get it to produce too many eggs at once but not asking for enough when the goose wanted to lay. Toonami was originally designed for an older audience (no set demographic, but roughly equivalent to 18-25) but because of this was popular with children. Then they sought to advertise to children because advertisers pay top dollar for the 8-12 demographic. It did well in this as well, but suffered under competition from Nick and Toon Disney. Rather than keep things oriented toward the older side of the spectrum - stories about science fiction, war, serious drama - they tried to make things more childish, and cut off the blocks from weekdays to only Saturdays. The midnight run was extinguished, [adult swim] became more popular because of Bebop, Family Guy and Futurama, and Toonami failed to garner an audience.
Live action was the killing blow, "Tom 4.0" was a death throw. This was the last gasp. Fudge you Turner, fudge you. You've single handedly cemented the anime recession and killed anime for the next generation of children. [adult swim] isn't going to be far behind.

I just watched my childhood get taken out back and raped...and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
What the hell is this world coming to.

Meh. Toonami was a huge part of my childhood. I remember when Yu Yu Hakusho was on there.. I couldn't miss an episode.. That and DBZ. I don't like CN anymore the only thing that I ever see on is Chowder. It's like the 24/7 Chowder channel.

Chowder, Flapjack and The Secret Saturdays are the only new programming worth any salt.

Re: "Bang" - So long Toonami......
I've never seen the secret saturdays. Flapjack has got to be one of the dumbest shows I have ever seen. And Chowder has it's moments (ex. katamari parody episode).
Cartoons were in their prime when I was growing up. I miss cartoons like Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain, Dexter's Lab, and Animaniacs.... sigh, the good ol' days.

Re: "Bang" - So long Toonami......
The only thing on Cartoon Network I ever watch is basically Adult Swim reruns. Sad thing is...even Adult Swim is losing its charm. The only thing that I find worth watching is older shows D= Also, I miss Perfect Hair Forever ;__;
I always loved watching Ren and Stimpy, The Angry Beavers, and Rocko's Modern Life....and even when I'm older, they're kickass. |
