UPN PASBL: Alan Grimmstone vs. deh74

A battle has been declared on this fine fall/spring day. What kind of battle, you ask? A Pokemon battle, of course! The stats for today's match are as follows...
Quote:
Alan Grimmstone (c) vs. deh (a)
3 v 3
Singles
Slapstick
72 hr DQ
Swap=KO
Equiall
Refs option for arena.
So we're all clear on the rules:
- This match is a singles match. Both trainers use one Pokemon at a time.
- Both trainers submit a squad of 6 Pokemon, but no more than 3 will be used in this match. A trainer loses when 3 of their Pokemon are KO'd.
- Switching out is considered a KO unless the Pokemon is recalled by a switching move such as U-Turn or Baton Pass.
- All Pokemon will be level 1 (or 2 in the case of uplevels) and will be that level's corresponding evolutionary stage. If you aren't sure what evolutionary stage your Pokemon should be at, check the Level Acquisition Table.

The match will progress as follows:
- Alan Grimmstone displays their squad of 6 Pokémon.
- deh74 displays their squad of 6 Pokémon, and sends out a Pokémon.
- Alan Grimmstone sends out a Pokémon and orders an attack.
- deh74 orders an attack.
- MCXD refs the battle, and then battle order switches.
- deh74 orders an attack.
- Alan Grimmstone orders an attack.
- MCXD refs.
And so on...

The arena I've chosen for this match is the Techno Field:
Quote:
Techno Field (Indoor): The battlefield surface is solid steel, the thickness of standard battleship armor (~3 feet/0.9 meter). For the purposes of Pokémon battles, it is completely indestructible. There are several electrodes (not Electrodes) sticking up out of the surface, emitting electrical sparks. These could be dangerous to any Pokémon that gets too near.
Special Rules: Artificial Lighting (unusually bright), Battle Platforms.
Optional Special Rules: Grandstand, Sprinklers.
To clarify, the electrodes surround the field either side in a roughly elliptical shape about 2/3rds of the way out from the center. The path directly between the trainers through the center of the arena is without hazard. The grandstands are accessible to good jumpers, fliers or anyone else who can reach a high place. Also, be aware that excessive amounts of fire near the roof maybe trigger the sprinkler system.

(If you both object to this selection of field, lemme know and I'll pick another!)

The trainers are standing ready on either side of this cruel field of technology, so without further delay, let's get things started!

Xena, go for it!
Use Quick Attack then try to hit him with Fire Spin

Egg Bomb when he comes in for the quick attack, then light screen the fire spin.

Round 1

(Sorry for the wait.)

The opening match will be a clash between two first generation Pokemon, as a pile of eggs (Benedict) takes on a literal fire fox named Xena. Neither seem particularly remarkable at a glance, both look quite eager to get started.

Xena takes the initiative, kicking up into a blur of speed as she Quickly Attacks. Benedict tries his best to fire some Egg Bombs, but only manages to get a single bomb off before being interrupted. The fire-type tackles into him, scattered the eggs about the place. The less rattled ones manage to fire a few more volleys of their attack, adding up to decent damage overall against their opponent.

The fox spins and backs up a bit, Benedict regrouping in the meantime. Xena breaths out a jet of Fire, that Spins and twirls, growing into a raging vortex of fire that completely surrounds the psychic eggs and climbs two-thirds the height of the arena. Not wanting to be fried, Benedict creates a wall of energy, a Light Screen, which sits on one side protecting them from the flames. It doesn't offer full protection however, the eggs clearly finding it uncomfortable in the heat.

---

Xena stands about ten feet away from the edge of the Fire Spin. Benedict is trapped inside, Light Screen facing the fox.

Both Pokemon took a decent amount of damage this round, but Xena used moderately less energy. Both Pokemon are still fresh and healthy overall.

Would light screen not stop the flames?

Light Screen is a wall, not a dome, so it would only block on one side.

Quote:
Light Screen (PS) - Using considerable energy, the user creates a large, thin, opaque square/octagonal wall of energy. The wall is formed 18" from the user. It is large enough to protect them from attacks, with size dependent on the individual Pokémon, but will not exceed the height and width of the user. It blocks special blows very well, capable of withstanding a heavy amount of damage, but shatters easily under the pressure of physical attacks. Physical projectiles such as Mud Bomb will easily shatter the Light Screen. The screen is also highly reflective, and light-based moves will be bounced back. The wall will stay with the user until it is destroyed, but can be moved out of the user's way temporarily in order to attack. Light Screen may also be used as an attack, where the user creates a firmer version of the attack and rams into the foe, screen first. Though much less resistant against attacks, it can be used to weaken any attacks the user may face. Undamaged, this version will deal a solid hit, but if it blocks an attack, it will be weakened a fair amount.
Pic

So damage was reduced proportionally rather than outright prevented.

Well yeah, but...whatever. My argument was mostly that the screen would stop it before the twister went upright or something.

Use a Psychic wave in the direction of Vulpix and also to try and disrupt the inferno. If you get out, go for a Hidden Power.

Go for a Safeguard to block the psychic. Then fire off a Hidden Power of your own.

Round 2

Benedict clusters himself together and prepares a Psychic blast, the energy briefly collecting above their collective heads then firing in a broad wave. It blows away a good part of the Fire Spin, allowing Benedict to jump through with only a little exposure to the spinning flames. At the same time, Xena swiftly prepares a Safeguard against the invisible battering ram that was coming at her. Closing her eyes, an aura surrounds her body and allows the psychic to wash over her harmlessly.

Xena's safeguard wears off at about the time Benedict escapes the fire tower, so both begin charging their attacks at the same time... the same attack, even. Both Pokemons' eyes glow bright white as spheres of energy escape their bodies and orbit their respective masters. With cries of effort they launch their attacks at the same time, streaming orbs of rock and fire energy crossing into the paths of one another. Most of them collide, causing an explosion between the Pokemon that seemed to flow just a little further toward Xena. It seems her Hidden Power Fire was disadvantaged compared to her opponent's Hidden Power Rock.

---

The fire spin has dissipated now, leaving two Pokemon standing ready to strike at any moment, about six to eight feet separating them. Benedict's Light Screen is still standing and capable of taking a solid hit.

The two Pokemon are tit for tat with regards to damage, both taking light hits overall and remaining dead even.

Xena used a little more energy than her opponent this round, but both Pokemon could use an easier round next up.

Use bullet seed to set off the sprinklers then hit the real one with a psybeam.

Round 3

Xena starts this round off with a bit of display, turning to the side and flicking her tail at the eggs, strutting about and generally showing off her incredible Swagger. Benedict finds this to be insulting and enraging, filling up with the desire to really teach that fox a lesson for her arrogance. For now, the egg collective agrees to follow orders, believing that a Bullet Seed to the sprinkler system might turn the tides on that cheeky fox. Although fire is far more effective, spitting several energized and anger-boosted seeds towards the roof did eventually manage to completely break one of the sprinklers, now spewing water down on the arena in a light rain.

As this was going on, the fox kicked out of her dance with a sudden burst of speed, putting up an impressive set of clones to complete the Double Team. A total of five foxes now stood ready to fight. At this point Xena found herself being lightly sprayed with water, something which made her a bit uncomfortable but didn't stop the illusions in any way. The opportunity it did give to Benedict however is the chance to watch and see which clones the water passes through... unfortunately, after a brief second of trying this he gets fed up, still enraged and preferring to shut that fox up right now rather than dealing with that watching the rain stuff. He briefly senses for where his opponent is standing and fires a Psybeam, the multi-colored beam going for the clone on the far left. Unfortunately it passes straight through, colliding with the metal floor just behind. That clone dissipates, leaving just four... but the psychic-type now has a pretty good idea of exactly which image is real.

---

Both Pokemon are slightly further separated now, the four clones appearing anywhere from ten to twenty feet away from Benedict, roughly in a cone before him. The broken sprinkler continues to spill water, dampening the combatants as well as causing a couple of the electrodes at this side of the arena to crackle and arc.

Both Pokemon took no damage this round, their totals remain equal and relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Both Pokemon were also happy to have an easier round in terms of energy. Xena used moderately less energy though, her lead growing a little there. Benedict is currently enraged and may disobey patient or defensive orders until he lands a hit. Although Xena's double team still has four images, its integrity has now been severely compromised by Benedict's psychic senses.

Send out a Flamethrower. Take the psychic and then let loose a raging Inferno.

Round 4

Benedict goes back to spitting Bullet Seeds about the arena, this time focusing on taking out the clones as rapidly as possible. The very first seed hits its mark, smacking the Vulpix right between the eyes. All of the clones fade, allowing the Exeggcute to focus fire on the fire-type, pelting her with a storm of painful seeds. Doing her best to shrug off the stinging bruises she just received, the three-tailed fox howls back, releasing a powerful jet of flame from her mouth. Xena's Flamethrower crashes straight into Benedict's light screen, the mystical wall soaking up most of the attack. As it eventually shatters, some of the flame bursts through, sending the eggs into a huddle to try and protect each other. They come out a bit singed, but thankfully it wasn't a long bake.

The leader egg calls the troops to attention, all of them starting to glow with a purple aura. A similar Psychic outline quickly appears around Xena as well, finding herself being lifted up into the air. The fox struggles instinctively against their pull but can't break free in time - finding herself helplessly flung backwards. Xena crashes straight into the nearest electrode and bounces off, shrieking as she receives a pretty nasty shock, landing a short distance behind it. Benedict regroups as the Vulpix struggles back to her feet, the egg collective seeming pleased with their revenge and no longer enraged.

Xena tenses up, barely-visible waves of heat running down from the tips of her tails down toward her head. Just as they come together she opens her jaw, suddenly loosing an enormous blue-hot Inferno out into the arena. The thick plume of fire isn't particularly fast moving, but is intimidating enough to make Benedict panic, eggs hopping desperately to get away. As the flame passes through the close exposure burns some of them lightly on the tops and backs, but they thank their luckily stars that they had time to get away from a direct hit. As the fire fades away, waves of heat and smoke can be seen rising toward the roof, triggering a couple more sprinklers. As they were on Benedict's side of the ring though, the Vulpix does escape getting any more wet than she already is. In fact, her use of fire attacks this round has actually dried her fur off almost complete. A red-hot trail is visible on the metal floor between the fire-fox and where Benedict had previously been standing, the raining water sizzling as it makes contact. The electrode caught in the path seems to be no longer functional.

---

A good thirty feet separate the Pokemon now, a couple of electrodes still live between them (though there is enough space between them to safely run through). Three sprinklers are currently activated, drenching the middle of the arena. Be wary of the hot section of the floor, but the sprinklers will likely have cooled it off by the end of next round.

Benedict took slightly more damage than Xena this round between his two close firey encounters. He is also burnt and wet. His energy use was fairly high due to that psychic, but nothing he can't handle.

Xena is looking a bit weary after that Flamethrower-Inferno combination, but did come out slightly better in terms of damage.

I'm aware, but it's not particularly strong recovery right now. You've recovered a slight amount of health so far.

EDIT: To clarify what I meant, in the previous round there was only one sprinkler going - which is hardly a substitute for a rainstorm, so you didn't recover anything. Starting this round, now that more sprinklers are active, as long as you stay in the middle, you'll get recovery. :V

Round 5

Although Xena was a fire type herself, she didn't fancy burning her paws on the heated metal floor, backing off from it on her trainer's order. Noticing that the opponent was preoccupied with this, Benedict's eggs spit a series of Sludge Bombs towards Xena in hopes of sniping her from a distance. The fox looks up to see them a bit too late, only able to duck down in defense as poisonous shells detonate on and around her. She cries out from one particularly solid hit - appearing slumped as the smoke cleared. Fortunately for her, she seems to have escaped being poisoned.

Xena stands up tall and Howls, restoring her confidence after that earlier bombardment and giving herself a bit of a power boost as well. Benedict seems surprised by the opponent's new found determination but isn't exactly intimidated, already getting started on the second load of artillery. This time the armament consists of a bundle more Egg Bombs. The glowing egg-shaped grenades fly across the arena, bursting like fireworks on contact with the metal floor. Vulpix is once again caught up in quite a number of the blasts, but manages to get clear of the last few, cutting down her damage. Despite signs of wear and tear, she looks more ready than ever.

---

Both Pokemon are still decently far apart, about two-fifths of the arena length. The heated floor section has fizzled out, rendering it safe to walk on. A line of electrodes still separates the pair.

Benedict took no damage this round, and was in fact healed slightly thanks to the sprinklers. He's used quite a lot of energy lately and is looking a tad puffed. His overall energy looks to be about half.

Xena took a lot of strong blows, now trailing her opponent visibly judging by her ruffled fur. Her energy use this round was minor, a gesture she greatly appreciates and hopes to repay next round. She is currently enjoying a small attack and special attack boost.

If she comes I'm close hit her with a toxic then move to hide behind several different electrodes. If not, just spit up and hide.
(exeggcutes can leave the group).

Round 6

((Sorry for the wait guys.))

Benedict waits a bit to see what was going to happen, in particular checking to see if the opponent was going to move in for a close-up attack. That doesn't appear to be the case however, as Xena's eyes glow brightly, orbs of fire energy escape her body. Once again displaying her Hidden Power (Fire)s, the Vulpix flings the orbs at her opponent, that being the cue for the eggs to make more like a banana and split. Benedict spreads every which way the fire attack crashing against the metal floor roughly where they were standing, catching a couple of the eggs partially in the blast, but they mostly manage to get clear, standing behind (but not too close) to some of the active electrodes for protection.

Xena frowns, looking around at the various eggs, not really sure which ones she should be targeting. She picks one as quickly as she can, summoning a fresh batch of Hidden Power (Fire) orbs and letting them fly again toward one who hadn't made it around the arena to an unoccupied electrode just yet, completely bombarding him. The fire energy bursts on and around him, leaving him quite scrambled.

---

Vulpix stands at medium to long range from all of the eggs. Benedict is currently split up behind several electrodes, some of them positioned quite far back. Those further away are no longer under the sprinklers, so healing will be lessened.

Benedict took some super effective hits this round, but splitting up helped in dealing with the damage. He used practically no energy and seems quite recharged after the rest. Some of the eggs are still burnt.

Xena took no damage, having made up for her health deficit quite nicely. Judging by her stance and breathing, she passed the half way point in energy this round. She still has her attack boosts.

((This is still an incredibly close match.))
