ROUND 23: Bite the Bullet
Rotom vs Totodile

The two Pokémon glare at each other with distrust. Both sport bruises and uneasy expressions. Totodile glances at his battered body, which bears the battle scars of electric proportions as medals of valour. Despite the odds, Totodile will go down fighting. The alligator knows it. Disenchanted, Rotom frowns. This exchange of skirmishes has not quite worked in the ghost's favour. Why can't the Water-type simply flip over and die? Why does Totodile linger? Frustrated, Rotom charges a storm of electricity and unleashes it as a Thunderbolt arc. The gift of salt and power. The onlooking tourists squint to see the attack. Will Rotom succeed?

Totodile is not one to await for his destiny: he seizes the day. Carpe diem, and a good man does not allow fate to take your own decisions. Like a Jet, Totodile shoots over the Thunderbolt and hurtles as an Aquatic bullet. Rotom squirms as Totodile passes through its plasma. Although no damage is done, an odd feeling whispers through Rotom's body. The ghost trembles as though it faces an invisible wind. This distraction is the perfect opening for Totodile. Determined, the alligator sheathes his paws with ghostly powers from another realm. The hiss of Shadows shriek, as Totodile rakes a Claw into Rotom. Rotom shudders from the assault.

As Totodile somersaults back into the surface of the water, Rotom snarls at the resourceful alligator. Something has to give soon.

---

Although Totodile has taken no damage in this round, Rotom has taken a super-effective attack that has inflicted major damage to its health. Both Pokémon dangle over the midpoint.

Totodile has used a sizeable chunk of Ghost energy and has enough left for one more Shadow Claw. Overall, Totodile has used enough energy to want a breather, or else risk depleting energy at an increasing rate. Rotom has used some energy but feels more relieved by the one-mover.

Pokémon are five feet away from one another. Rotom is levitating above the water, and Totodile is at the surface.

-Rangeet to order.

ROUND 24: Revenge and Retribution
Rotom vs Totodile

Seawater sprays as a fine mist, as Totodile assesses the current situation. He know that while he has engineered a decent situation for himself, the tides of battle can turn as swiftly as the tides of the ocean. Golden ages don't last forever. Glancing down, Totodile affirms to himself that the appropriate move is to dive into the depths again. Before he can, though, the alligator has business to address. Hastily, Totodile collates a trough of Water energy and forges a series of Powered orbs. The spheres blast outwards with a Hidden thrust, as Totodile retreats beneath the sea. Ocean breezes thrust out the waves that hide Totodile's trajectory.

Rotom swerves to dodge the assault, but most of the orbs slam into the plasma ghost, washing it with a shower of Water energy. Steadfast, Rotom weathers the hit. The plasma ghost knows that retribution will be soon nigh. This thought pervades all thoughts like a virus when Rotom launches into the water. Although the coursing waves disconcert the ghost with their harsh unfamiliarity, Rotom holds firm and focuses its razor gaze. Within seconds, it locates Totodile who scurries about the muddy floor. Hastily, Rotom accrues a swathe of Grass energy and releases the surge with the explosive boom of a Bomb.

Totodile barely has enough time to evade the Seed-like projectiles. Using his superior navigation in water, the alligator swerves away from some of the Grass shrapnel, but many slam into Totodile. Shock and agony rackets the alligator, as though a scabbier has plunged under his stomach. And Rotom does not relent: the ghost charges another barrage of Seed-like energy. This time, the plasma ghost has the energy and ability to land an entire Bomb. The onslaught is enough for Totodile. Pained, the alligator weathers the entire shell.

Pride floods Rotom's senses as the ghost inspects its work. And what impressive work it has been: Totodile is crumpled on the ocean floor, wincing. Finally, the Type advantage may come into play. With that thought, Rotom garners electric conductivity and Discharges a streak at Totodile, who chokes. Although paralysis has been avoided, the damage has not. Retribution is a horrid mistress.

This final assault is too much for Totodile, who closes his eyes and embraces the sweet nothing. He does paid his dues. May the next Pokémon complete the task.

Totodile has been KOed and cannot battle. Rangeet, please send out your last Pokémon.

---

Rotom is has dipped below the midpoint and is in the water.

Rotom has thrown out a ridiculous amount. Grass is completely gone, and Rotom has used a three mover. Lanturn cannot order another 3 mover for the remainder of this match.

-Rangeet to send out.

Just to make it reasonably official that I complained on Skype that 4 feet was a bit too much for movement that wasn't a move or used during a move, so he changed it to about two and a half feet.

Torchic, released on the edge of the beach. Hidden Power twice.

ROUND 25: Hidden Power
Rotom vs Torchic

Underneath the drifting clouds, the click of PokéBalls sound out. A stream of red lights merge to produce a vivacious Torchic. The avian fighter sashays and winks against the bright sunlight. Torchic chirps with an edge of joy.

Clearing his throat, the referee speaks aloud.

"Here is the data on Rangeet's final Pokémon."

Quote:
Torchic (Fire): Torchic constantly radiates heat. While not particularly intense, it can make Pokémon who dislike fire uncomfortable in close quarters.
[Fire]: Fire types love hot temperatures. Most can survive in hot liquids/molten lava for an extended period of time (indefinitely in the case of Magby, Magmar, Slugma and Magcargo). If a fire Pokémon has a flame somewhere on its body, it will take extra damage if a water attack hits the flame. Otherwise, fire Pokémon are not adversely affected by taking dips in bodies of water, so long as the time is short (except for the above 4 Pokémon, who will take damage the longer they are in the water). Instead of being automatically 2x weak to Water, they take 150% of the damage if hit on their bodies, but take 210+% if hit on open flames.
When the referee finishes his speech, Torchic sprints forward. The bird burnishes with kinetic power, and nothing will stop in his way to the blaze of glory. Through blood and iron, he will have what is rightfully his. These thoughts emblazon Torchic as he treads the water until the ocean is lapping on his paws. The water does not bother him, though. Who can discourage a determined fighter, after all? And undiscouraged is Torchic, when he summons a series of shimmering orbs and launches them into Rotom. Forged with a Hidden Power, the spheres crash as an avalanche into Rotom, who spins with surprise. The plasma ghost can not react in time: the last round has fatigued Rotom, showing in the ghost's tired breaths.

After shaking off the attack, Rotom takes a deep breath. The plasma ghost knows that the situation may strike as dire, but his dignity can be preserved. Closing its eyes, Rotom concentrates. Defence may the way forward. Shimmering like a hallucination of a distant dream, a Screen of Light coalesces in front of Rotom. Curious at this display, Torchic belches another series of multicoloured orbs at Rotom. The orbs careen with the lurch of a landslide. This time, Rotom has a contingency plan, though. The Light Screen soaks the Hidden Power, holding resolute and shielding the smug Rotom.

While Rotom relishes in his escape from pain, Torchic scowls. Nevertheless, the battle is still young.

---

While Torchic has emerged unscathed in his first round, Rotom has weathered another solid hit that drops him further away from the midpoint.

Torchic has used more energy than Rotom, who has enjoyed the breather. Half his Psychic is now gone. Both Pokemon are both the midpoint for energy, and Torchic is very fresh.

The two are ten feet away from one another.

After the agility, send a highly focused Echoed Voice to break the Light Screen, and then two more(still highly focused). That's three.

ROUND 26: Voice of Determination
Rotom vs Torchic

In the final match-up of glory, Rotom and Torchic exchange wary glances. Torchic feels a crest of frustration. His time is abating like the waning moon, and Rotom continue to assert its valiance in the face of adversity. Why won't the battle end? Will it ever end? These pale thoughts plague Torchic when Rotom proves again to be elusive: the plasma Ghost rushes into the ocean, with a burst of Agility not unseen in slipstream races. Rotom plunges further into the depths of the sea, as Torchic scowls from the edge of the lapping waves. Unable to chase the Ghost into the ocean, the fowl stares balefully into the crashing waves. Rotom rests easy, in the bastion of water.

Nothing is forever, though. Torchic prepares a deep breath and cries aloud. His Voice resonates outwards like a gong, Echoing throughout the waters. Like an illusion, the Light Screen trembles and shatters. Startled, Rotom trembles in the wake of the blow. Despite the traverses of the ocean, Torchic is somehow able to reach the plasma Ghost? Preposterous. Rotom scoffs, preparing its own attack. A series of orbs thrust out the water and slam into Torchic with a Hidden Power. Torchic winces against the blow. He needs to win. He can do it. He can become ascendent. A surge of adrenalin galvanises the avian with determination.

Torchic rings out another Echoing note, as his Voice melds with the whispers of the last note. Amplified, these soundwaves barge into Rotom, who winces. The power grows and expands, like a crescendo. When a third Echoed Voice peals, Rotom cringes against the blast of noise. The cacophony of chaos reverberates. Blood, spittle, and bruises. Obstacles can be overcome, and even the shields of the ocean cannot protect Rotom forever. After all, nothing is forever.

---

Rotom has taken a major hit, minimised by the Light Screen, that has dropped it into the final third of health. Although Torchic has taken a noteworthy attack, the gap between the two Pokemon continues to widen.

Rotom has used some energy and still lingers above the halfway mark. Torchic is within the first third, but he may want a breather. Rangeet has used a three-mover.

The two are twenty feet away from one another, and Rotom is near the bottom of the ocean. Torchic is at the water's edge.

ROUND 27: Under the Shadow of Victory
Rotom vs Torchic

Rotom and Torchic reflect each other's thoughts. Will I be able to make my Trainer proud? Can I overcome the odds? What will be my last stand? Both Pokémon cling to their hopes. Although only one winner can emerge, Torchic aspires. He will be victorious. Shouting, the fighter taps into the fading Echo, strengthening the resounding Voice with even further crests. Furthered by the last few Echoes, the soundwaves dance outwards and into Rotom. The melody jars the beleaguered Ghost-type, who struggles against the sonic assault. Rotom can barely react when another Echo pummels the Ghost, sending it further into the throes of despair. Pain and calamity.

Panting, Rotom clings to its consciousness. Although the Ghost knows its situation his situation is dire, Rotom aspires. Even in the darkness, a thin light of hope can still kindle. These thoughts are Rotom's emotional clutch, as the plasma Ghost attempts to summon the Psychic energy to construct a Light Screen. Rotom pales when the thin remnants of psionic power dissipate in the water, unable to become anything truly tangible. Indeed, Rotom's dearth of Psychic energy seems to have cost the ghost. Despite scholarly conjecture, Ghosts do not have any sort of familiarity with Psychic energy, after all.

This is not Rotom's only card, though. Where there is a will, there is a way. Unrelenting, Rotom pulls grit together and accrues a sphere of unearthly energy. The grey of Shadows congresses, as the Ball burgeons with the pregnant curve of a waxing moon. After another second, Rotom discharges the ghostly attack at Torchic. Gasping, Torchic endures the onslaught of sinister winds. Torchic never loses sight of the final goal, though. Torchic knows that the end of this battle is nigh. And that is enough for now.

---

Although both combatants have taken great blows, Rotom is the one on the precipice of critical health. A super-effective attack should close the curtain on this chapter.

Rotom is below the halfway point for energy, while Torchic has also used a substantive amount of energy. Torchic may wish to consider an easier round soon.

The two are nineteen feet away from one another, and Rotom is near the bottom of the ocean. Torchic is at the water's edge.

ROUND 28: Songs of Past Ghosts
Rotom vs Torchic

As the sunlight drapes over the crashing waves, two Pokémon stare through the ocean spray. Torchic and Rotom. With the Ghost's fate hanging on a thread, the tides of battle oscillate with uncertainty. What will happen in Rotom's final moments? Will Torchic complete this chapter? Rotom shakes its head. The Ghost may be many things, but it is not a Pokémon that will let its fate be written by others. A last burst of determination galvanises Rotom, like penultimate electricity, and the plasma Ghost gathers another swathe of Shadows. Despite Torchic's protestations, the fighter is too fatigued after consecutive two-movers to respond instantly. After an evanescent moment, the Ball of energy rushes towards the beach.

Torchic flips backwards, buffeting by the supernatural winds. After pushing his heels into the sand, Torchic glares at Rotom. This battle will not end with anything but a dirge for Rotom. Indeed, Torchic hollers yet another harmony of Echoing Voices. Amplified by the past songs, the melody crashes into Rotom who clings onto coherence with the thinnest of margins. Enfeebled, Rotom still fights with utmost valiance. Despite all the pain racketing its wavering spirit, Rotom fights with courage. With glory and honour. In spite the odds, Rotoms begins to charge a final Shadow Ball. Win or die fighting.

Tapping into his momentum, Torchic sings an Echoing dirge for Rotom, a final swan-song. The Voice expands with the power and memories of all the Pokémon who have come before: Helioptile, Machop, Eelektrik, Spheal, Totodile. Their memories and spirits, encapsulated in that crescendo of finality. Shadows dissipate, and Rotom collapses. The Ghost smiles. At least its Trainer can be proud. Indeed, the dawn of tomorrow can always be forever.

Great match!

Lanturn, I got an early advantage with Machop vs Helioptile- though it was still great maneuvering by you to stay out of my range for ages. I dealt a huge amount of damage to Eelektrike before dying, and even Eelektrike can't out-turret Porygon, so that was fair. But I can't understand why you sent out Spheal, and especially, why you were so damn defensive with it! I nearly took that thing out! Why not Stunfisk, who I would have no answer for(and would at least be double-super-effective against Totodile) or Rotom right then?

If you had managed to claw back even a little bit so that Rotom vs Torchic was more fair, you would have had a great shot of winning this. Torchic was my best option versus Rotom, and when you say that in a Beach arena...

Anyway, great match, Lanturn. I'm sure you'll be the one telling me this in a couple of years.

Schaden, it's absolutely unbelievable you knocked out all those AWESOME reffings so fast, even while RFing. Next Ref Evals you are definitely being voted B+ by me, and once you get some experience and knowledge about those unwritten rules, you can easily go even higher. Great reffings, man.

And thanks for the battle Geet. It was fun and I learnt a lot. Hopefully I'll keep those advices in mind :3
