Free Account-based Image Hosting Sites
PhotoBucket has gone retarded. They had a terribad beta a few months back that they allowed people to opt out of. Well, despite everyone hating it and opting out of it, they didn't take a hint, made no changes, and just forced us all back into it today. The new site is mega buggy. It also has a terrible practice of forcibly appending randomized strings of characters to the end of file names in order to protect its users' privacy from bots that would otherwise just crawl through pictures with ease. Well, I really fucking hate this practice, principally because it makes it a bitch when posting a lot of pictures on UPN. I can't just go from ep11_01.jpg to ep11_02.jpg by deleting the 1 and typing a 2 now; instead, I have to not only delete the zb449rmkfgmksd from the end of ep11_01zb449rmkfgmksd.jpg, I also have to enter in the 494qekdfjdfss in ep11_02494qekdfjdfss.jpg or else that picture won't load properly. What a nightmare. -_-; Try doing that in a post with 20+ pictures and yeah, no thanks.
So, figured I'd ask for recommendations. Sites should support free user accounts, at least 100 MB of user space, and must not force users into appending random characters to the ends of file names when they upload the files for the first time. List of Sites Not To Recommend: (may be updated as we go along) ImageShack PhotoBucket Imgur

Naturally. I've been using their non-account based service for quite some time now. (Just search for imgur urls in posts made by Talon87.) But I want to shop around, so before I hop straight over to them I figured I'd ask for everyone's input. But yes, I quite like what I've seen with them. Good recommendation!
EDIT: BAD recommendation! I just made an account (impatient) and am dismayed to discover that, no different from their non-account service, the account service with Imgur anonymizes file names, forcing me to manually copy and paste one URL at a time, like so: http://imgur.com/aaaaainstead of allowing me to just copy one URL, paste it into the post editor here on UPN, and easily swap out a single character, like so: http://imgur.com/apple_01So yeah. Not the solution I'm looking for. :\ Why did you delete your post, Deo? Now this post looks retarded.

Foot, meet mouth.

Using:
a) Imgur b) Any one of the url shortening sites that allow you pick the url(Such as goo.gl, or bit.ly), c) Programming knowledge You could do something that uploads an image to imgur, then immediately shortens it to the URL of your choice using one of those sites. It's long-winded and annoying, but I think it's the only solution nowadays.

Imgur is not a good long-term solution anyway. PhotoBucket? I have images on there from 2006 that they still have honored and left up. Imgur? Their TOS says that unless I buy a Pro account my images are only good for 6 months past the last time someone viewed them and then they get sent to the chopping block. Not cool. UPN doesn't want a bunch of red X's where I've embedded pictures. I don't want a bunch of red X's where I've embedded pictures! So yeah, no. Imgur is good for a quick 'n' dirty upload of a picture for a chitchat thread like the PASBL or FB Time Out threads, but for long-term threads like we have in Anime, no dice.

When it comes to posting images, my criteria are the opposite: I don't want the site to be behind a registration wall, and I don't want it to require any Javascript or Flash or other plugins (because then it will be inaccessible to me a majority of the time).
I thought I finally found a good site when I discovered imgur, but recently they changed the uploader to have all kinds of horrible apps and now it doesn't work. I even gave it a second chance and loaded up a browser that supported Javascript and started enabling this and that object until it finally uploaded an image... then it got stuck at 100% and did nothing. What a pain. So... for sites that support your criteria, I'll suggest you check out Dropbox. I haven't used it so I don't know if it's a pain or not, but I know it has the features you seek.

Why is ImageShack bad?
And I use TinyPic for everything I could want. I've used it ever since my days on FormumWarz because they used to be a bit slow on the uptake for saucy pictures. The only downside is there's a file size limit, but it's usually so large one rarely runs into it. Screenshots are generally OK. Screenshots strung together vertically are generally a no-no, and I resort to ImageShack to host those mega-huge pictures.
