A cascade of water poured from the lip of the Lombre’s lilypad, rushing down with the force of a waterfall at this size, as it stared down the trainers that had assembled to help combat its rampage.

Selene brushed a wet lock of hair out of her face, regretting not bringing a waterproof coat to this excursion. By the time the battle finishes, she would no doubt be completely soaked. At the very least she had brought a change of clothes, but they were currently far out of reach on the boat she had taken to the atoll. Leukocyte fared a little better, swiftly flapping out of range of the bulk of the spray while her fluffy fur kept her dry from any droplets that managed to reach her. Of course, staying dry wouldn’t be so easy with the Lombre unleashing deliberate water blasts.

The trainer to their left had also brought a bat Pokemon with him, albeit a more venomous one. With its trainer’s command, the Zubat released a spray of nauseous toxins at the kappa, while another trainer also ordered his Pangoro to unleash a poisonous attack, in this case a particularly nasty Gunk Shot.

And now the attacking fell to them. Selene frowned as she studied the situation. Leukocyte was a rather young Pokemon, lacking both experience and powerful attacks. The best they could do for now was a simple Gust, not exactly a heavy hitter in terms of fire power. It was a move most Flying types grew out of, exchanging it for more powerful Flying type attacks such as Air Slash. Perhaps she should have used Prism, who had access to far stronger attacks, instead…

Leukocyte, sensing her new trainer’s doubt, squeaked loudly and flapped her wings vigorously to show that she could put up a fight.

“Alright, alright,” Selene said. “I wasn’t going to put you away that easily.

Now, Gust.”

Though Zak hadn't initially planned a trip to Typhon's Depths for January, the familiar locale came as a welcome escape from the Winter chill for both him and Lemmy the Toxel. Knowing they had a little time, the man slowed the pace to feel the tropical sun against his skin once more but Lemmy wasn't quite as relaxed. Ready for his first battle, the plucky Baby Pokémon led the way, taking to glancing back every so often to gauge from his trainer whether they were still on the right track.

It wasn't long before the Toxel did not need to look back to his trainer for approval as the pair reached the colossal lagoon and quickly spotted their foe: a Dynamax Lombre who's lily pad was comparable in diameter to the Depths themselves was lounging in the cool waters. Spotting the gathering trainers and their Pokémon on the shore, the Jolly Pokémon decides to rise up from the murky water with cascading torrents pouring from atop its head, showing the party its full size and majesty. Despite this show of power, Lemmy the Toxel began to crackle with electric energy before shouting his displeasure to the Lombre; he wasn't going to let himself get intimidated.

Noticing that a number of the other trainers had started to issue their opening commands, Zak turned to the plucky Poison-type and gave him a thumbs up to make sure he was ready to start. The Baby Pokémon squawked his agreement to his trainer, firing a double thumbs up straight back at his trainer.

"Lemmy, I want you to start things off by throwing Acid (40BP) at that Lombre!"

The Lombre curled its hand into a fist and raised it to the heavens. Lightning flickered in the clouds, illuminating the entire area with each flash, before a massive bolt struck its balled fist. The Lombre grinned before it slugged the Zubat, driving the bat into the ground. Satisfied with the pummeling it gave the Zubat, it turned to the tiny Toxel and swamped it with a Max Overgrowth. Despite the resisted hit, the blow clearly stung, tears visible in the Toxel’s eyes.

Selene winced as she and Leukocyte were pelted with sand and splashed with seawater thrown into the air by the Lombre’s attacks. If that Thunder Punch had hit the Woobat... and who knew what other attacks the Lombre had in its arsenal...

Leukocyte was also nervous, fluttering nervously above her trainer's head. She had witnessed many raid battles before, having lived near a Power Spot--Loch Bygone. But she always made sure to take cover whenever the ground rumbled with the footsteps of Dynamaxed Pokemon and purplish clouds swarmed the sky; she had almost no experience with the phenomenon such that it was. And seeing her trainer in doubt did little to ease her fears.

Selene, noticing her Pokemon’s distress, tried to reassure her with a wave of her hand. No, she thought, there was no point in dealing in hypotheticals now. She would just wear herself out running in mental circles. And that could be dangerous this early in the battle. Not that she had much in the way of strategy, Gust was pretty much their only option.

“Seems like it's our only--Gust, again.”

With each of the trainers having arrived at Typhon's Depths and given the opening's round strategies to each of their respective Pokémon, the raid battle against the Dynamaxed Lombre began. Wanting to afflict their foe quickly, one of the raiders commanded their Zubat to use Toxic and the rest followed suit with their initial attacks, attempting to whittle away at the Lombre's hitpoints.

Having taken a number of hits from its foes, the Jolly Pokémon was anything but and began to prepare its retaliation at once. First up, the Lombre raised a fist to the sky and smashed it into the Zubat with a thunderous crash. Next up, the towering Pokémon turned its attention away from the bat and to the Toxel before it instead. Without missing a beat, the Lombre unleashed a Max Overgrowth attack that engulfed Lemmy in vines and tendrils, dealing a decent chunk of damage to the noxious baby.

After the attack upon Lemmy, the terrain around the lagoon had started to change, with shoots and weeds covering the area to help the Grass-type deal with the rest of the battle. Despite this new advantage, the Lombre was still feeling the effects of the toxins released by one of the bats in the previous turn. Without any moves in his roster that could take similar advantage of the changing terrain, Zak decided to stick with the same strategy and hope that the Poison and Electric type could weather another attack from the colossal kappa.

"Try to avoid Lombre's attention and give it another big spray of your Acid (40BP)!"

Typhon’s Depths looked more like a swamp than an oceanic lagoon, the grassy terrain shimmering under the noon sun. The Lombre paused and took a moment to rest, soaking in the leafy aromas and the green aura, perhaps reminiscing of a time spent swimming in a shallow forest pool dappled with sunlight from between the canopy leaves. However, that moment of peace did not last long. Swiftly gliding across the lagoon, almost riding the grassy terrain, the Lombre slammed into the Zubat with a powerful Grassy Glide. The venomous bat squeaked in pain, laboriously flapping her wings in an attempt to stay airborne despite the heavy toll the blow took on her. The Lombre eyed the Zubat, perhaps awaiting a counter-attack, before unleashing a freezing draft on them all. Despite her fluffy fur, Leukocyte felt the freeze seep down to her bones, the chill slowing her down.

Selene frowned as she dusted ice crystals off her pants, her soaked hair frozen in clumps. Her light jacket proved to be little protection against the freezing cold, the sea breeze suddenly more harsh now that she was both soaked and half-frozen. She hoped the raid would be quick, otherwise she might turn into a human popsicle. And judging by the glistering ice adhered to Leukocyte’s fur, it seemed her Pokemon partner wasn’t far from freezing as well.

As Selene contemplated her next move Leukocyte, shivering from the cold, nuzzled up against her. Selene, not one for physical contact and still awkward around Pokemon outside of Prism, was tempted to push her away. However, for a reason she couldn’t explain, she let her stay.

As the battle's next turn began, the party of Pokémon facing off against the Dynamax Lombre begin to prepare their attacks but not before the kappa could take advantage of the new terrain to swoop across the lagoon and slam into the Zubat with a Grassy Glide attack.

With the Lombre back in its original position within the lagoon, the raiding party continued to chip away at its hitpoints once more. This turn, however, the hits triggered the Jolly Pokémon to line up a series of crystalline defence shields. Though this temporarily prevented any direct hits against its life force, a number of the raiding Pokémon struck instantly to bring down some of their foe's defences.

Set up behind its defensive line, the Dynamaxed Lombre prepared its next attack for the raiders. In a moment, the air temperature around Typhon's Depths dropped drastically as the Jolly Pokémon unleashed an Icy Wind attack. Having sent a chill across the battlefield, Toxel and the other raiding Pokémon were feeling the slowing effects of the biting winds.

Despite this, each of them was still ready to continue the bout as they turned to their respective trainers for their next commands. Given that Lemmy was one of the weaker sign-ups, it only made sense for him to use his power to assist with the destruction of the Lombre's defences ready for the others to continue to damage the kappa.

"Lemmy, I want you to help Woobat with those shields by chucking a big glob of Acid (40BP) at the remaining one!"

The Lombre was growing frustrated. Relentless, the raiders’ Pokémon had pelted it with super effective attacks. They poisoned it, drenched it in acid and filth, cut it apart with strong winds. Certainly no one would remain in good spirits for long under such conditions; even the Jolly Pokémon could not remain joyful after such a barrage, its jovial expression morphed into something more sinister, and a dangerous gleam was in its eyes.

With a screech, the Lombre slammed its fists into the lagoon, sending an electrified tidal wave that pulsed from the center of the lagoon. The shockwave washed away the poison seeping in its wounds, restoring some of its strength. It then eyed the four Pokémon spaced out in front of it, out for blood. And it would have its revenge with Leukocyte, the bat’s fuzzy white fur and reduced speed making her a conspicuous and easy target.

There was the hiss of steam, and a surge of scorching hot water seared the Lombre’s chosen victim, sending her crashing to the ground. She was knocked unconscious.

Selene sighed as she returned the Woobat to her Heal Ball.

Well, this was a frustrating setback. With her Pokémon out of commission, the only thing she was able to do was cheer. And, scanning the remaining Pokémon, she sighted her target: the Zubat. Its wing membranes were coated with a thin layer of ice from the Icy Wind and its flapping was heavy and laborious. Selene gently tapped the mechanism on Leukocyte’s Pokéball and took aim at the Zubat. Some of the Dynamax energy that was swirling around the sphere, healing the unconscious bat inside, was sent to the other nightcrawler.

Cheering to heal the Zubat.

Setting their sights on destroying the Dynamaxed Lombre's circling defences, the raiding party made short work of the shields through a unified assault. Having successfully battered their way through, a number of the party managed to continue to chip away at the kappa's hitpoints once again too.

The leviathan Lombre did not seem too bothered by this and released a crackling Shockwave to help it to return its abilities to their regular state. Once it was satisfied that it was back in fighting form, the Jolly Pokémon selected it's victim from the party of Pokémon stood before it: this time it was the Woobat. Rolling its head back, the Lombre fired off a cascade of boiling water in an attempt to scald its foe. The attack ended up hitting the bat hard and, once the water subsided, it was clear that the Woobat had fainted under the power of the attack.

Given that his Toxel had not taken any more damage, Zak decided to press on with the same strategy as before, silently kicking himself for not kitting the Baby Pokémon with a berry before the two of them arrived. At least he knew for next time and Lemmy was still getting to try out a raid - something that was far more important to the man than being able to deliver the strongest moves.

"Lemmy, keep covering that kappa with your Acid (40BP) - if it puts up shields, hopefully your noxious saliva will be enough to destroy one again."

Selene watched with a bit of jealousy as the other trainers commanded their Pokémon to attack. The Toxel let loose another spray of acid and the Pangoro slammed its fist into the kappa with enough strength to shatter boulders. However, the real champion of this round had to be the Zubat. Growing to the size of a cargo jet, the bat Dynamaxed and unleashed a vortex of shredding winds. The Lombre howled in pain as pieces of its lilypad were cut off by the sharp winds, the smallest of which were the size of umbrellas.

Severely threatened by such an offense, the Jolly Pokémon stepped back towards the center of the lagoon as it erected a single shield, all the protection its rapidly fading strength could muster. Unfortunately, its efforts would soon be in vain as Leukocyte had finished recovering from her injuries from the last round. And the little bat was eager to prove to everyone that she could still put up a fight, plotting her return as she lay in her Heal Ball waiting for Selene to release her.

In a flash of pink and blue sparkles, the Woobat returned to the battlefield. As she gazed up at the Lombre, her trainer gave her her next command.

“Considering it’s really our only option, yet another Gust please.”

While Leukocyte was rather unnerved by her knockout last round, the desire to prove herself was even stronger. Despite her fears, she flew as close as possible to the Lombre and flapped her wings as hard as she could, summoning a whirlwind strong enough to crack and shatter the lone shield. And as she watched her teammates charge forward, taking advantage of the opening, she felt proud.

As Zak and the other trainers anticipated, the continued barrage of attacks against the Dynamax Lombre had the humongous kappa set up a series of defensive shields between itself and the party of Pokémon before it. This strategy only really looked impressive though, as the attacks continued and eventually all that was left was one meagre panel of defence before the not-so-jolly Jolly Pokémon.

Despite having its defences trashed, the kappa had switched from defence into offence before the Pokémon before any of them could react. Making use of the verdant terrain across and around the lagoon, the Lombre glides into Lemmy the Toxel with a terrific crash. This attack leaves the Baby Pokémon on his last legs, something that would usually be a cause for concern but Zak actually had a plan for such an eventuality.

Now was not the time, though, as the Dynamaxed Lombre continued to retaliate. Holding its arms high above Typhon's Depths, it summoned a cloud of Max Darkness to envelop the Zubat and nullify the protections of the team that faced off alongside the bat. Luckily, the Toxel had managed to just about stay on his feet and Zak knew now would be the only chance the two of them could make use of the next strategy. That was if the Lombre didn’t get to the Baby first, at least.

“Don’t go down without showing that thing your power, Lemmy - it’s time to Flail (10.42% ≤ HP < 20.83% = 100BP) and show him how terrible your tantrums can be!”
