King Ghidorah- Sheer Cold had been an instant knock out on Kommo-o, but rather than panic, you keep your calm and realise there might just be a way to exploit this situation. Even in the freezing cold your mind still manages to spark with a brilliant idea and you quickly order Mr Mime to use Encore! The Psychic type quickly begins to clap, applauding Kyurem's performance. Its more than just an applause though, much more. This was a trap. Kyurem had unknowingly left itself at your mercy, this was the turning point, you were sure of it!

Kyurem had only one option now. Sheer Cold. Sheer Cold which was useless against two Ice types like Mamoswine and Mr Mime! You had a short window of opportunity, until the encore broke, Kyurem was at your mercy! Mamoswine sets up a Hail, causing thick clouds to gather around the top of the cavern which begin to rain down hail. Mr Mime was appreciative at least, each hail stone that hit him helped repair his Ice Body. The Mr Mime charged towards Kyurem, but the Guardian's words stop it in its tracks.

You think you've outsmarted me? You doubt my strength!

Kyurem lets out another blistering Sheer Cold! Mr Mime is untouched, Mamoswine is untouched, even you're left untouched. Kyurem instead uses the attack defensively. Repetitively using the move, it creates a thick ice chrysalis around itself. Mr Mime can barely chip the ice with its Drain Punches, its Dazzling Gleam likewise is of little help. Mamoswine comes to the mime's aid, Flailing against the ice but even his thick tusks struggle to gore through the ice. Backing away, Mamoswine peppers the shield with Ancient Powers, but try as he might he can barely manage to break off anything bigger than an ice cube!

Your futile attempt to defeat me has failed, every move you make is a useless endeavour.

Kyurem's voice rings through the ice. The cavern rumbles and stones erupt from the ground around the ice barrier. The Stone Edge sends Mr Mime flying, while Mamoswine is knocked out by the blow!

Mamoswine is unable to battle! Mamoswine gained 3 levels!

The chrysalis begins to glow as Kyurem gathers its strength. The Heat Balm was keeping you warm, even with the Bittercold and the hail. Kyurem was backing down, it seems it wasn't just powerful, it was resourceful as well. What could it possibly have in store for you next?

The woman doesn't seem to shy away when she sees you approach, that's a good sign. Any information she had would likely prove useful, being native as well meant that she'd likely be knowledgeable about the Cradle and the shaman's connection to it. You introduce yourself, Ty as well, slipping in a little joke to help break the ice.

"Shay-Naira", the woman replies, "but most just call me Shay." Her accent was thick but she seemed to have a strong grasp of the common tongue. "I heard you reading the journal, you read about the story I told her, the story about him." You continue to press, asking for any useful information about the seemingly revived Shaman. "I pleaded for them not to break the seal. When they did, at first everything was fine. The Shaman just stood there, just like they are now. If I was to guess, I would say that he somehow froze his body when he became entombed, but once the seal was broken, he took the opportunity to break free." If the Shaman had been frozen like the researchers and workers were now, then surely that meant they were still alive?

"Hey kid", Ty shouts, "this one just blinked!" Well that was a relief! It would probably take some time for the Shaman's magic to wear off, but it seemed like they'd all be okay. That wasn't the main issue here though, the main issue was the powerful, Pokemon abusing Shaman who was likely bent on vengeance!

"Praise the Guardians", Shay cries, tears running down her face. "There's more. I hid once the seal was broken, the Shaman never saw me. He spoke as he exited the cave, spoke like a man driven to insanity. He wasn't talking in complete sentences, his words barely fit together. One word he said more than others though, 'Temple'. There is only one place he could be going, the Old King's Temple, many powerful artefacts from the Cradle's past are kept there, among them are the weapons bestowed upon the young heroes which were used to seal the Shaman away. He could be after them, he could be after something else, I can't be sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help."
Emp felt awash with relief as one of the statues blinked. They were slowly snapping back to life, just as the tomb’s captive had just hours prior. No longer amidst a scene of mass murder, the duo could focus on the task at hand: tracking down the powerful Shaman and snuffing him out! From what intel they had gathered, the tribesman was driven to insanity and bent on vengeance, it almost sounded like his mind was as mangled as his abominations. Emp mused on that for a moment, there was only one semblance of lucidity in the Shaman’s words – the word Temple.

“There’s nothing for it.” Emp started, “We head to Old King’s Temple to keep this threat from acquiring those artefacts.” It wasn’t his job to call the shots with a Hunter present, it wasn’t his job to do anything with the pits of Titan's Butte short of the work he needed. But this was bigger than any prospector gig, lives were at stake or perhaps more with the mystical threat's motives still shrouded in mystery. They were the only ones with any foresight of the Shaman’s plan, with the element of surprise on their side they could perhaps stop any calamity before it even starts.

Praising them for their efforts with a slap on the hide, the trainer tapped Mojumbo and Beaker with their Nest and Lure Balls in preparation for travel. Nikola was light as a feather and would function as the eyes on the back of Emp's head, his skittish nature no doubt shedding warning to any sign of threat. Provided Ty was happy with him tagging along, Emp’s next thought went to how they get to the temple before the Shaman, who was presumably travelling on foot. While short on flying-types, the trainer had the next best thing bundled up in his rucksack.

“I have this Superhero Cape which allows its wielder to fly. Perhaps we’ll be able to cover more ground if we take to the skies?” If not for the scorching sun his Wailord would be a fine candidate for the job, rafting their entire party and then some. Perhaps Hippowdon would be the best option though – or better yet, Ty might have a faster (or more sensible) transport mode already accounted for.

Arboreal Cradle - 26

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: The hunters had become the hunted, the cloaked enemy on your scent and picking off your inventory like flies. You order the troop into defensive manoeuvres, the guildmembers forming a circle with their Pokemon ringfenced around them, ears pricked to the faintest sound. The forest guardian would prove light on its feet however, finding the Marowak’s jugular with its Bite and tossing it against one of the trees like a ragdoll. The neighbouring Seviper and Armaldo shuffle across to fill the gap in your phalanx while your Corvisquire and Dreepy burst to the sky from its centre, putting your diabolical scheme into fast track. The Raven Pokemon’s feathers begin to smoulder as it wings beat to and fro, sending the clearing into a Heat Wave; the Lingering Pokémon then adds fuel to the flame with a Helping Hand while Kommo-O and Seviper douse the shrubbery from below with a Flamethrower for good measure. You feel the air temperature kick up a few notches, the firestorm threatening to form blisters on your exposed skin and no doubt causing your invisible enemy discomfort too. But in peeking through the line of defence you see the fire is doing all but catch...

While flames licked against the roots and branches their lashes failed to leave even a charry tinge in their wake. With the flameproof foliage denying you the smoke needed to blow the Guardian’s cover, your army are forced to improvise as it shifted into assault. Adding its own flavour of fire to the inferno, the Order Pokémon retaliates with a Dragon Breath, the purple embers washing over Kommo-O, Scolipede and Ivysaur for a sizeable hit. This gives your forces a hint to its fix, Empoleon sending an Ice Beam in the direction of the attack with Zebstrika and Seviper joining the chorus with a Thunderbolt and Venoshock, respectively. At least one of the three bolts seemed to have connected as the Guardian yelped in pain, its camouflage faltering for a moment allowing Ivysaur and Scolipede to take aim. Your recent affront to Nature is not held against you as it lends the Seed Pokemon its Power, a Moon Blast taking shape and sending the foe pedalling back a few steps. Taking its opening the Megapede Pokemon then breaks formation and rushes in Megahorn-first, but the antennae only manage to pierce through thin air as its target burrows out of reach. With nothing but a few seismic twitches to give off its movements your faction are taken unawares as it bursts through the ground beneath you, splitting your tight blockade apart like bowling pins. The strike sends man and ‘mon reeling without prejudice, knocking out the Zebstrika, its master and the Hunters commanding Scolipede and Kommo-O in one fell swoop. The foe was showing no qualms taking out the fragile bodies calling the shots if it meant a swift end to your insurgence, the stakes rising as your scattered forces staggered to their feet. What will you do?

Here the trees grow to sizes impossible by natural standards, and the wonders of life truly shine. While one may enter the Feywood as they wish, leaving is another matter entirely, and there have been people who enter and never leave, though that may be down to the whimsical and gay nature of the forest. The tribes of the Cradle call the forest the spiritual side of the Cradle, and the laws of nature apply not: fire cannot burn within the confines of the woods, and the trees seem to exude vitality akin to humans. Indeed, there have been sightings of vaguely human creatures which resemble no pokemon seen before, and the pokemon themselves are more than capable of understanding the human tongue, but whatever the circumstances it can be agreed on by all who visit Zalfarthas: you're going to have a magical time.

Zalfarthas may not be the easiest place to get to, though entrances have been found in any of the forests, yet the pokemon within are unlike any found in the four biomes of the Arboreal cradle. Should you stumble upon passage to the Feywood, you may find... (please reply in hotpink)

Sub Area
Rainbow Grove: Taking a wander through the Feywood will result in one discovering a special part of the forest where the trees take on a spectrum of colours that boggle the mind. The grove that they are in is populated with mysterious plantlife and pokemon, much like a dream one has, and it is said that if you take a rest and slumber within the grove, you will be taken to your deepest dreams, where you can experience your greatest dreams in person. The fey spirits are mischievous though, and there's every possibility you'll be thrust into your darkest nightmare at a moment's notice, and forced to confront your ultimate fears.
Not sure if anybody has a spot free for me at the moment but I thought I'd get an intro together anyway to help me to brush away the cobwebs - let me know or feel free to direct me elsewhere if I can’t start off from/heading here

It had been almost a decade since Zak had last set foot on Fizzytopian shores but it felt like something was drawing him back. Fragments of memories of past escapades in Fizzytopia had started to infiltrate his dreams and he found the faces of Pokémon and human friends alike danced in and around him in the haze before fading just as fast. Those simpler times had passed and in recent times Zak had found himself spending his time working and finding less time to spend with his team mates. The dreams were just that. At least, until the faces in his dreams started to speak one night.

“Zalfarthas”

The same word echoed from every mouth. Even the Pokémon seemed to be saying it - but what did it even mean?

”Zalfarthas”

Before long it started to sound like some kind of ritual incantation but the faces were warm and smiling until they faded once more into the ether.

With the word still etched into his mind and a freshly brewed pot of coffee, Zak opened his laptop the next morning and searched the word he had dreamed about. It didn’t take long before his attempts were rewarded: Zalfarthas was a place. Located within the forested region of the Arboreal Cradle on Fizzytopia and known as the Ancient Feywood, Zalfarthas sounded almost mythological, something that piqued the man’s interest even more.

All of this had to mean something, he was sure he hadn’t heard of this place before but felt a desire to go, some unconscious connection to this unknown locale. Leaving everything behind and embark on another adventure was going to be the easy part: the more he researched, the less information Zak could find about the location of Zalfarthas itself. That didn’t matter, though, his mind was made and he planned to begin his journey to the Arboreal Cradle the next day. He could always seek out assistance when he got there. Somebody had to know how to get to this place and if not he would get to spend time catching up with his Pokémon during the trip anyway.

—-

Alighting from his Pidgeot, Zak took a look at his surroundings before pulling a map of the region he had printed out from inside his jacket. The paper hadn’t survived the trip as well as he would have liked but they at least seemed to be in the right place. The land around them made him believe so too with vast networks of trees stretching as far as the eye could see on their approach.

“Appreciate the lift as always, Tim, i’m going to head out on foot from here so you can rest up for now.”

Following a curt nod and a ruffle of his feathers, the bird vanished in a flash of light as Zak returned him to the Flying Ball on his hip.

“I’m still gonna need some company so come on out - Shane.”

As quickly as the Pidgeot had vanished, a Banette now stood in his place, mobilised from a Ghost Ball further along Zak’s belt. It had been quite some time since Shane had last got the chance to take a trip with his trainer and he grinned at the potential for mischief in this new land.

“Let’s see if we can find anyone who knows anything about Zalfarthas around here, eh?”

"What sort of place is this", Xander spat upon his plan failing. The trees wouldn't burn, no matter how hard they tried. Where there is no fire, there is no smoke.....

Despite being unable to kick up some smoke, they manage to land a couple of hits on the Zygarde. The hits were well received by the legendary Pokemon however, as despite the obvious pain, the Guardian didn't pull back. Instead it attacked more aggressively, bursting from the ground and knocking out Zebstrika, as well as two of the Hunters at Xander's command. There formation was broken, but they had some more information about both their surroundings and their opponent now. It seemed damage would cause the Guardian's camouflage to falter, giving them an opportunity to launch an assault. "Corvisquire, Icy Wind to the left, Kommo-o, Clanging Scales to the right! Empoleon prepare an Ice Beam, Ivysaur a Nature Power, Dreepy go for Swift, Scolipede launch a Venoshock. The rest of you get ready as well, as soon as its camouflage falters you need to strike, no remorse, no holding back!

Xander had been tasked with bring this beast down and he wouldn't fail. Failure wasn't an option. So far he'd made moves that were relentless but they hadn't gone to plan, Mindbender wouldn't appreciate that. Xander knew that given enough time, the Guardian could easily pick them off. They needed to be aggressive and take this thing down quickly, so Mindbender could execute the rest of his plan. "I want this thing brought to heel!" Xander snapped at his troops, hoping they'd fear him more than their concealed adversary.

Hugo dug in is bag for the last Revival Herb. It only made sense to use it on Mamoswine. He was out of Heat Balm, so trying it on any other Pokemon would only result in losing them in short order to bittercold. He placed the herb beneath the Ground-type’s oversized tongue, and the Pokemon responded shortly after, perking up, ready to continuing the fight. Mr. Mime, meanwhile, was slightly replenished from the Hail that Mamoswine whipped up, but the Stone Edge had done significant damage. Hugo pulled one of the four Energy Roots that Heidi had given it and tossed it to the mime, who apprehensively ate it. It didn’t taste good, but Hugo could tell it was effective when Mr. Mime stood up, looking much more eager.

Hugo was grasping at straws by this point, he knew. There wasn’t much choice left though. His other partners were done and the cold would be insurmountable even if they were still able to fight. He knew he had to do what he could to buy as much time as possible, and so he did. Kyurem was still barricaded under a thick layer of ice, but the ominous glow emanating beneath it meant something bad was coming. Another brutal move? Or perhaps now it would transition to Black Kyurem? Either way, Hugo didn’t want to find out. Perhaps if he could strike fast and now, he could throw it off course.

Mamoswine had a decently powerful arsenal, but Mr. Mime was fairly limited. Sure, Dazzling Gleam and Drain Punch were super effective against Kyurem, but if he couldn’t break through the ice it meant nothing. But Hugo knew Mr. Mime could theoretically learn to mimic some of the more powerful moves – being a mime, it was in his nature after all.

“Mr. Mime! Use Mimic on Kyruem! Learn Stone Edge! Then hit with Stone Edge! And another Stone Edge!

Hugo was running out of ideas. Perhaps a barrage attack would work.

“Mamoswine, you also use Stone Edge! Then Stone Edge and Stone Edge again!”

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Emp- With the revived Shaman seemingly heading to the Old King's Temple, you feel obligated to pursue. Sure, you weren't a Hunter, but you were with one at least! Lives and much more could be at stake, it was time to commit. You recall Mojumbo and Beaker into their balls before pulling out a Superhero Cape, waving it for Ty to see before suggesting its usage to cover ground faster. The expression on Ty's face is one of pure disappointment.....

"Just when I was starting to think you had your head screwed on right", Ty groaned, "you got a giant pair of underpants in that bag as well?" Ty lets slip a slight chuckle as he bulldozes past you, back out the tunnel. Both Shay and yourself turn to follow the elderly hunter, who was now moving with a fair amount of purpose.

The light is almost blinding as you exit the tunnel, but your eyes soon adjust. "Girl, on the Hippowdon", he motions to Shay. "It'll take you to the nearest Guild Outpost, tell them everything you told us and have them send Hunters and Healers to the temple." Shay nods politely, wiping the tears from her face as she climbs up onto the Hippowdon. You help Ty remove the cart's harness from the Ground type, it would likely move quicker without the extra wait. "Off you go now", Ty instructs as he slaps the big hippo across the rump, causing it to leap into a steady gallop.

"Now kid, this is your last chance. You didn't sign up for this, I've seen you can hold your own, but there's no telling what we're going up against here and I can't promise I'll be able to save your arse let alone my own. If you wanted to leave now, I wouldn't think any less of you." Ty selects a ball from his belt, recalling his Tyranitar. He then switches the ball for another, releasing an Aerodactyl from it. The Fossil Pokemon croons, before swinging her head over to nuzzle her trainer affectionately. Ty pulls himself up onto the Flying type's back with a bit of a groan, before looking back down at you. "So kid, you coming or not?"

King Ghidorah- Mamoswine was down, but not for long. Whipping out your last Revival Herb, you wave the pungent natural remedy under the KO'd Pokemon's nose, sparking it back into the realm of the conscious. An Energy Root for Mr. Mime sees him perk up as well, although neither Pokemon seem to appreciate the bitter taste. With Pokemon Ice types back on their feet, you concoct a more aggressive solution to breaking through the ice chrysalis. Mr.Mime mimics the Guardian's Stone Edge technique and together, he and Mamoswine begin to smash into the makeshift shield with brutal force. Ice splinters as stone smash and scrape, hail raining from above mixes with the shards of ice leaping from the cocoon of coldness. Finally they see some success as some of the stones penetrate the thick ice, jabbing into Kyurem who still seems to be gathering energy inside......

Boooom!

The ice disintegrates as a tremendous bolt of lightning lances through it. Mamoswine fears not the crackling bolt but Mr.Mime is not so lucky. Even with its screens up, the bolt strikes with tremendous force. As your eyes adjust to the scene, you notice that Kyurem has indeed changed forms again.

Spoiler: show

The hulking Guardian swings its tail around, knocking Mamoswine and Mr Mime back towards you with a Breaking Swipe. Both feel their attack drop from the attack, but do their best to keep Kyurem back with another pair of Stone Edges. Kyurem cares not as it breaks the stone with its powerful claws, hurling back chunks at the pair, hitting them with a makeshift Rock Slide. Mr.Mime and Mamoswine are already looking battered again as Kyurem seems to be surging forward with new found resolve. Was there any way to stop the Guardian?!

Connor- You'd stumbled upon quite the hidden gem! A mysterious subterranean temple concealed behind a waterfall? Who would've thought! You're eager to start exploring, but some thick vines were barring your path! Not for long though..... It wasn't like he really needed the order, Marco was getting through the vines whether you wanted him to or not. A Breaking Swipe manages to soften the vines up nicely, but ultimately its Cain who carves the path forward. The Gligar's claws furiously cut through the vegetation and as soon as the vines fall, Marco is off again!

The Pancham leaps over the decapitated vines, rushing straight past the statue. Not wanting to give the panda too much of a head start, you give the statue a quick glance before moving on. The statue depicts a warrior with a spear in one hand and a shield in the other. A six pointed star is engraved on the shield, while a short inscription on the base of the statue is in a language you've never seen before.

Chaaaaaaam!

Marco lets out a pained cry from within the temple, snapping your attention from the statue. Glowing mushrooms inside the temple continue to illuminate your surroundings and it isn't long before you spot Marco grappling with some odd, rotund Pokemon. The Pokemon seems to be clad in a shell of yellow armour, while a bright red horn protrudes from its head. It leaps at Marco, driving the horn into the Pancham's chest. It seems to be pretty aggressive, perhaps it doesn't like intruders?

Beneath his mellow facade, Emp’s patience with the oldtimer was beginning to wear thin. He didn’t take to his ideas being shot down so condescendingly but the Tyrant hadn’t earned his moniker through niceties. He’d hold his tongue and let the elder’s words run off him like water off a Ducklett’s back; their alliance need only last as long as the world was in danger.

Emp’s eyes closed to a slit as their flight party congregated back on the craggy surface, the sun’s rays refracting against the hot air and painting mirages across the scorched desertscape. The marked change in temperature was almost too much for the outsider to handle; Nikola was back in his element meanwhile, frills unfurling like a satellite dish as he lapped up the midday sunshine. They wouldn’t have to frazzle much longer, the Hunter’s signature Tyranitar subbing out for a mighty Aerodactyl. Even through squinted eyes he recognised the species in a heartbeat, having fended off one of its kind early into his career, learning enough from the encounter to concede that the prehistoric sovereign of the skies was the superior choice of transport. Emp fired a solemn nod at the Hunter as he climbed aboard the beast’s back, its leathery wings giving a stretch as it prepared to take flight. He felt the coil of his Heliotile’s tail around his neck as he braced for take off, holding on for life and limb. The dangers in store were a far cry from the desert dweller's sedentary life in the sand dunes. Emp pondered the ethics of exposing the skittish Pokemon to such high stakes, but it was past time for second guesses.

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: The plan had gone awry but you weren’t about to let the Order Pokemon slip through your fingers, striking fear into your battalion and bringing what’s left of them back into formation. The invisible enemy was taking out the minds behind the muscle without prejudice, and so Scolipede and Kommo-O fall into your command as you vie for survival. The Pokemon fan out, Corvisquire whipping up an Icy Wind to your left while Kommo-O Clanged its Scales to the right. The clash of cymbals sends your eardrums to a throb but appears to miss its mark, stripping the noisemaker’s defences to boot. Corvisquire had better luck, a tundra washing over Zygarde and unveiling its position.

While your forces scramble to aim, lock and fire, the beast flickers iridescent green in the same split moment, shifting the Land beneath you in an impressive show of Wrath, catching some of your slower teammates off guard. Empoleon’s Ice Beam starts on course before arcing aimlessly into the sky, the metallic penguin’s legs buckling under the seismic activity. While the four-footed Ivysaur fared better his attempts to channel Power from the surrounding Nature are muffled by the ruptures of energy underfoot, mustering a weaker Moon Blast than moments prior. With the Scolipede faring similarly Dreepy is perhaps the only Pokemon able to hit his mark, a torrent of Swift stars homing in like heat-seeking missiles, for what good that would do. With a moment of respite you scan the field to assess damage, the Kommo-O, Seviper and Alolan Marowak succumbing to damage and joining their fallen brothers. The surviving lot were close behind, although the enemy’s strength was appearing to wear thin too. It was in plain sight now, shields down as it sized up your remaining forces in search of an opening. Not about to permit such a chance, Ammorith orders his Armaldo to close in, claws laced in bug energy as he slashed them down in an X-motion. The guardian barks as the Scissors scratch against its scaly hide, retaliating with a point-blank Dragon Pulse which swiftly takes the arthropod out of the fight. Reaching a critical juncture in your efforts to snuff out the demi-god, a voice in your head comes to break your focus.

“Report on the status of your mission, brother,” starts the Mindbender, “We have captured the centremost Zygarde but our brothers and sisters in the east have failed... You must finish the job and hurry here at once, our work must not be in vain.”

“Report on the status of your mission, brother,” starts the Mindbender, “We have captured the centremost Zygarde but our brothers and sisters in the east have failed... You must finish the job and hurry here at once, our work must not be in vain.”
"Bastard", Xander spat. His spread move flush out tactic had worked, Corvisquire's Icy Wind revealing the Guardian's position. Unfortunately they were unable to take full advantage as Zygarde responded quickly, hitting the party with a Land's Wrath that not only threw off their attacks, but managed to take out the majority of their Pokemon. Ammorith's Armaldo remained standing for a moment, although it only managed to land an X Scissor before being knocked out by a powerful Dragon Pulse. Xander looked around, his troops were decimated. Mindbender would not tolerate this level of failure, he could not return empty handed. As if on cue, Mindbender reached out telepathically. One of the Zygarde had been brought to heal, but the other had alluded them. For some reason hearing of their failure elicited some joy in Xander, perhaps because it meant if he failed as well, Mindbender's wrath wouldn't be focused solely on him?

"We have the situation under control, Zygarde is on the ropes and will soon be ready to join our ranks."

Xander kept the messaged short, not wanting to give Mindbender an opportunity to pick apart his lie. The truth was that they were the ones on the ropes. Zygarde was at least revealed to them now, but the power it possessed was undeniable. They needed to bring this to a close immediately. "Scolipede, Steam Roller over the top of it, keep it pinned!" Xander cared not for the bug at his command, he had no issue with using it as a sacrificial Wooloo. "Prepare to fire", Xander muttered to his Pokemon, "once Scolipede has it pinned we launch our attacks, no holding back. "Icy Wind again Corvisquire, Ivysaur your Nature Power, Empoleon focus on that Ice Beam, Dreepy will lend you a Helping Hand." It was aggressive and reckless approach, but his options at this point were limited.

Scolipede Arboreal Cradle - 28

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: The reports were in, according to the synapses firing about your brain. One mission had ended in triumph and another in catastrophe, your chances of overcoming the beast sat around fifty-fifty. You feel a tinge of solace in at least being spared the brunt of the Mindbender’s wrath should you fail too, but nevertheless ready a last ditch effort to overwhelm the beast and return to his side. With your true self supressed and no personal tie to the Scolipede you have few reservations in sending it Steamrolling to its demise. The Megapede Pokemon puts a chain of successive Speed Boosts to work as it ducks, tucks and rolls at tenacious speed. Zygarde braces in a downward-facing dog pose as the wheel grinds against his scaly exterior, only working to fuel the Outrage burning within as it combusts in draconic energy and stops the spinning clean in its tracks. With just enough restraint not to break the bug in two, it’s sent ricocheting off into the jungle canopy and out of the fight. The scapegoat had played its part well enough, the last fighters standing using the time bought to carpet bomb their foe.

You’re overcome with a feeling of schadenfreude as the guardian is showered with Winds of Ice and Blasts of Moon, weathering each hit with waning resistance. Empoleon delivers a glacial bolt-Beam as the final clincher, the Icy assault made even more numbing through a Helping Hand from Dreepy. The feeling of sure-fire victory is perhaps premature as the canine pushes against the maelstrom in all its Outrage. It manages to close in a few paces until the volatile cocktail of energies becomes too overwhelming and the battlefield goes up in an explosion of ice and fire. Ammorith pushes you both to the underbrush for cover, ears ringing and body aching as you stumble desperately to your feet. With the dust starting to clear your final gambit had seemingly paid off, but at great cost. Three more bodies lay limp on the ground, including the prized jewel itself. Flocking to your side Corvisquire and Dreepy appeared to have escaped from harm’s way while your Empoleon and Ivysaur had been caught in the nucleus of the blast. While you think on what that substance in the pool could be, the fire type quickly hones himself and tucks feathers in, streamlining himself as he swiftly dashes to the rescue of the sick grass type, as the Ferrothorn's glow becomes almost mirror-like, before launching a shot of light at the downed pokemon! Fortunately, Blaze is significantly faster and with a pirhouette, scoops the Chikorita up and springs out of the way as the projectile bursts behind it, scattering soil everywhere. Depositing the starter into your trembling arms, the fighting type turns angrily to the Thorn Pod pokemon and utilising momentum quickly rushes up the tree and promptly gives the clinging steel type one hell of an uppercut as it only just spots him too late. Taken by surprise, the pokemon is knocked out of the tree and lands with a dull thud in a somewhat damp spot of mud.

The Ferrothorn is by now fixated on the bird, and as Blaze prepares to give it a careful burst of incendiary justice from his new vantage point, the steel type begins to whirl around, coating itself in the soil and embedding itself, small tendrils emerging and ingraining itself firmly to the ground. Caked in the mud, the fire spin lands perfectly and as it audibly grumbles from within its fiery tomb, you take a very quick check on the grass type, examining the creature and the substance on its body. The Chikorita's form is almost leathery, breathing shallow and the pokemon feels a bit cold to the touch, very clearly dehydrated and not too far from the Distortion World. Your attention's drawn to a sudden squawk, as you find out why: from within the spinning flames, a harsh spray of caustic acid blasts into Blaze, the Combusken's flesh sizzling from the attack and the tree he's holding onto beginning to melt, the Ferrothorn taking things seriously as it begins to crackle within, mud hardening and insulating it from the heat of the fire spin...
Alice let out a breath of relief as her Combusken retrieved the Chikorita, elegantly evading the Mirror Shot and launching himself back to her. She gave a breathless 'thank you' as she took the creature into her arms, noting it was struggling for breath itself, the Pokemon's skin leathery. It was very weak, she was going to have to deal with this however she could, but she couldn't leave Blaze to fend for himself, either.

"Blaze, use Bulk Up, then get in there for a Low Kick and Sky Uppercut! It can't dodge easily when it's ingrained like that, so try to finish it off quickly, but be careful about taking attacks up close!" Alice called. The fighter nodded, beginning to buff his stats, looking all the more imposing in spite of how he'd tucked in his feathers. The bird looked beefy, that was for sure, and with renewed strength Blaze made to rush in his strikes.

"Now let's see to you." Alice added quietly, setting the Chikorita down behind a tree she was using, needing a barrier incase the Ferrothorn got clever and switched targets. Withdrawing two Love Balls, she released her Snubbull and Lotad, the latter a lot more cheerful than the grumpy looking healer. "Okay, listen. This entire place is a state and the Pokemon are suffering for it. If we don't act quickly, this Chikorita's probably going to die."

Well, that was one way to turn smiles upside down, but there was no time to wallow in it. "Lorin, I think it's dehydrated. I want you to wash it with water and give it some water to drink. If you can put some in your dish pad I could help it to drink if it needs. Samantha, I want you to use your Heal Pulse and see if you can take the edge off its condition. Any improvement's going to help here."

Everyone had their jobs and Alice's eyes were flitting between the three here and Blaze in battle. Hopefully they could get past this with successes all around, but honestly, she was panicking here. This situation was absolutely dire...

Almost on cue, Hugo was confronted with Black Kyurem. It was almost becoming comical at this point; every time Hugo thought he could try and deal some damage – any damage – it was all for naught. Kyurem was able, not just to counter, but to obliterate anything he tried to do.

“Why did I waste my time,” Hugo thought to himself. “So convinced this was my “destiny”…but I was only fooling myself. I can’t pull this off. Nothing is working at all. What’s the point of any of this? Maybe if I just quit now, he’ll spare my Pokemon and just punish me. They’ve been through enough.” Hugo thought he would be energized by this battle, and was he? Sure, at first. But now the feeling was waning and he instead only felt discouragement.

Mamoswine and Mr. Mime were being brutalized, but he could still see the fight in their eyes. In his heart, Hugo knew he should give in. But what sort of insult would that be? He would keep fighting for them…for now, at least.

“Mr. Mime, use Copycat on the Breaking Strike! Then let’s try and use Kyruem’s power against itself with Confuse Ray! And follow it up with…Tickle!”

Tickling a prehistoric Ice monster/god of desolation. Why not? Nothing else was working.

“Mamoswine, fill the air with Mist!”

A little late after the Attack drop, but better late than never, I guess. Right?

“Then keep up with the assault! Use Superpower! And then use Flail!”

“I guess we’ll see what sticks…if any of it,” thought Hugo.

Grinding his teeth, Sweeney considers the situation before him. There would be a hint of comedic karmic recompense, the repercussions for Marco's recklessness finally falling at his own feet for once, were it not for the fact the Bartender would inevitably have to be the prevailing sensibility. As if on cue, Sweeney felt irritation radiating from Sophie at his side, while Cain began to hiss laughter at the spectacle unfolding. Waiting for a moment to allow the aggressor a few solid hits - Sweeney resolved they deserved that much at least - the trainer rummaged through his pack, searching quickly for his berry pouch. Opening the fabric sack, Sweeney pulls out a single Babiri Berry, nodding towards Sophie.

For a breath, it seems the Solosis will be uncooperative, her stern expression clearly advocating for leaving Marco to deal with his thorny bed. This determination is easily batted away by a meandering claw and rolled eyes from Cain, the Gligar goading the Psychic type into acting more out of an implication of immaturity than anything else. If there was one thing Sophie relished, it was a chance to impose how she would always take the high road. Floating closer to the pair, the Solosis begins to glow with a thin veil of intense blue energy, transmitting her thoughts directly into the mind of Marco's assailant.

"We apologise deeply for encroaching on your territory, whoever you are. Would you be so kind to release our vagrant? My trainer is willing to give you this treat in exchange."

To underpin the treatise of Sophie, Sweeney gingerly reaches forwards with hand outstretched, the Babiri Berry perched in his palm. At he same time, he made sure to have Sophie on standby, the Solosis readying herself to use a Reflect to forcibly separate the two should the need arise, resolving to follow with a [b]Psybeam[/u] in the event the first attempt fail.

Lil' Bluey The flow of time is always cruel...

Pearl’s Perap“Zalfarthas”. The haunting word danced in your dreams, drawing you back to a land last set foot in nearly a decade ago. You had pored over your computer in pursuit of answers to mounting questions, casting wide across the net and sieving the screen for any possible leads. Yet your research had yielded scant results save for the info “Zalfarthas” was not an intangible concept, but in fact a proper noun – the name not of a person, but rather a place. Nestled deep within the Cradle, it calls you to seek its secrets. To adventure.

Heeding the siren’s song, you obeyed the summons. And so you find yourself faced with the fabled forest of myth from your investigations, having made your way fast by flight. Thanking your feathered friend for the assist, you determine to carry on by foot and recall him into his Ball, before substituting his company with a puppet proxy instead. Shane smiles impishly as he makes himself at home in your shadow, eager to finally cause some potential chaos again in an unmapped (but moreover yet unmarred) area after all this time.

First things first: To forge forth and discover an entrance to the Feywood itself. You figure may as well start somewhere and press on aimless through the trees, as if hoping to encounter a stray sign or escort to guide you. …Soon and sure enough, you realize the two of you are hopelessly lost in the tangle. You’re about to curse yourself for blindly jumping on such a vague premonition without formulating a plan beforehand when Shane alerts your sleeve, pointing to a flicker of light in the shade. Peering closer, it appears to take the shape of a small wisp of flame, brightening to your approach. Strange; according to the reports you had read, gathered from rare interviews with the various elusive tribes of the Cradle, fire was supposed to be forbidden from burning within the Feywood by some bizarre, unseen forces of nature. While you supposed this was a signal you hadn’t quite reached your destination, the eerie flare was a mystery unto itself, floating fine in mid-air without an obvious source of fuel or foundation.

The spark twinkles and flashes, as if inviting you to partake in a game of Tag, before drifting off into the darkness. Lacking any other direction, you give chase as it leads you on a winding path between the boughs, twisting and weaving with ease whilst you duck desperately to keep up. Eventually you come to a slight clearing, as the trailblazer travels to the center of a circle of mushrooms, which seem to glow faintly in response to the new illumination cast upon them. The shining beacon glimmers again, beckoning forth. Doubtfully, you step inside the ring, and a dizzying sensation overcomes you, forcing your eyes to shut tight…

When the feeling swiftly passes and they open once again, you gasp to take in the myriad of vibrant colors that greets your gaze. Like a trance, all rays of the rainbow seem to filter through the chromatic canopy – diverted through dewdrops as if refracting from a crystal chandelier – bathing the radiant grove in dappled dyes like an artist’s palette. The lustrous spectrum of hues dazzles and delights (although the Banette beside you is perhaps a bit less appreciative of the overwhelming brilliance). Oddly though, the kindling which conducted you here is nowhere in sight, seeming to have vanished without a trace.

Just then, you hear a cry from nearby, and swerve to see another peculiar image: not a flame, but a baby blue flower flitting to and fro. Its errant movements seem hectic, frenetic. Squinting, you notice a tiny sprite of white attached to its stigma, a crown of gold adorning its head. The frantic Flabébé seems to be searching, calling out for someone. Upon perceiving your presence, she hastily hovers over and addresses to your surprise:

“Hey! Listen, you wouldn’t happen to have seen a little boy somewhere around here? We got separated a while back, and I’m worried about the poor child wandering the woods alone… Please, I must find him before…”

Her words trickle off, but she wrings her petite paws in a begging pose, clearly concerned out of her wits for her lost charge – lest some sort of terrible fate befall him.

How do you reply?

The sacrificial plan had been successful, but at a great cost. Scolipede had drawn the Guardian's wrath, allowing his own Pokemon to prepare their assault. Zygarde didn't know what hit it. The volatile combination of attacks converged, erupting in a powerful explosion that even the Guardian couldn't hope to endure. Perhaps they'd gone a bit overboard though....

The energy of their attacks along with Outrage of the Guardian was a power not easily contained. Ammorith shoved him behind cover just in time. Corvisquire and Dreepy were able to easily avoid the blast, but Ivysaur and Empoleon were not as lucky. As Ammorith and Xander scrambled back to their feet, Xander was pleased to see the Guardian on the ground unconscious, but his own Pokemon.... He wiped away the tear that had managed to leak from the corner of his eye before recalling Ivysaur and Empoleon into their balls. Ammorith was the only other hunter left standing, they couldn't afford to wait for them to come to, Mindbender wanted them back immediately. Xander made his way over to the unconscious Guardian, bending down he picked the Pokemon up and slung it over his shoulders. The Pokemon wasn't exactly heavy, but it was a touch awkward to carry. "Corvisquire, Dreepy, fly ahead, we need to move quickly. Ammorith, let's go."

Xander wasn't sure how Mindbender would react. He knew that acquiring the Guardian was the most important thing to his master, but losing so many troops in the process would likely displease him. Xander braced himself for the potential repercussions.

Ivysaur reached lvl 31
Empoleon reached lvl 44
Dreepy reached lvl 8
Corvisquire reached lvl 25

The Ancient Feywood

TheKnightsFury: You wade your way through the warzone, picking the felled beast off the ground by the scruff of its collar, hoisting it in a fireman’s lift and walking it to its corruption. It was a dastardly deed, but you knew no better. Leaving the fallen soldiers behind without so much as a second thought you break into a run toward your master, to right the wrongs of the other battalion. You climb under and over the gargantuan roots anchoring the even more gargantuan trees, the occurrence of such sky-scraping forestry increasing the deeper into the feawood you traversed. Covering several kilometres of ground the sounds of a scuffle pique your ears, coaxing you into a jog as you close in on the action like a homing beacon. Soon enough you spot the Mindbender horseback, handling the last Zygarde standing with apparent ease, now accompanied by a trio of his own Shadow mutts. His partners needn’t even intervene, the Grimmsnarl standing close guard over its master while the Rapidash focused on sustaining the hivemind; you almost wonder what all the rush was about, given he had such a clear handle over the situation.

“Your timing is impeccable, brothers. Now, pass me the Zygarde.” You wordlessly comply, kneeling down to present the offering. The Grimmsnarl barks at your very approach; in spite of your service and unwavering loyalty, it just didn’t seem to like you. With the resisting beast safely outnumbered, the Mindbender breaks focus from the skirmish and approaches the lifeless offering, swallowing it with the device you last saw on the night of the sacrifice, quickly corrupting it and rejuvenating its health stores. The three against one battle then became four, desperate to watch as the lone green Zygarde was ringfenced by its fallen brothers, Rushing it left and right feverishly, fangs bare with Shadow energy. You feel a sudden pang of guilt as it yelps in pain… Wait, that wasn’t right. Your temple starts to blaze as a strange, yet familiar sensation takes hold. The kaleidoscopic trip seems to play in reverse as your mind starts to unfog and the voice screaming in your subconscious is allowed hold. meetan: Blaze moves with a swift determination, his eyes narrowing with a fiery resolve. As he charges, the Combusken concentrates on his muscles, pouring energy into the fibres and causing an immediate reaction. By the time he had reached the glowering Ferrothorn, Blaze looked remarkably heftier, and with a triumphant cry he drops to the ground, his agility perplexing to his abruptly uncertain opponent. With gusto, Blaze delivers a violent kick to the underside of Ferrothorn's carapace, who immediately attempted to shrink instinctively in retreat - only to realise too late the nails he had inserted into his own coffin. A flourishing uppercut later and Ferrothorn looks decidedly infuriated, eyes tinged bloodshot from pure frustration.

As this altercation is underway, Lorin and Samantha are preoccupied with the other pressing matter. Chikorita flinches as Lorin begins to douse her with a gentle stream of water, but quickly acclimates to the soothing wash, sensing the gently kind intent. When the bulk of the oil is clear, Samantha frowns intently, her entire body glowing with an ethereal purple hue. Focusing, she pours the restorative energy into Chikorita, the Grass type visibly perking as she is enveloped by the light. Seeing this and feeling buoyed, Lorin sprays water into the air, catching as much as he can in the lily atop his head. Leaning forwards, the Lotad watches with a smile as Chikorita uncertainly drink, seemingly past the worst - but this moment of peace is interrupted without warning.

A whip crack rends the atmosphere asunder, the splitting sound followed by a dull thud against the tree you had chosen as shelter. Gingerly peering round, you see Blaze sprawled, having took the full brunt of a Power Whip. Mercifully, Ferrothorn seems singularly obsessed with Blaze. Moreover, the protective mud clinging to his steely exterior had been dislodged by Blaze's attacks - a small but important victory. With a shrieking hiss, Ferrothorn lunges with a spiked claw, a fulminating Shadowy cloak fuelling a defiant raking Claw. Grimacing, Blaze staggers back to his feet, the Combusken standing determinedly as he adopts his fighting stance once more.

Lil'twick: You rush towards Skuntank, knife drawn. As you move, your Pokemon redouble their efforts, your resolve to join the fray clearly a rallying point. A jubilant expression on his face, Cotton begins to gently prod at Exeggutor, determined to get his attention. As the towering tree shifts his gaze to the Swirlix, his anxiety begins to dispel, the edges of each mouth turning upwards into a small grin. Determined to seal the deal, Cotton wags his tail in an attempt endear himself to the beast, emanating an enticing sweetened scent in the process. Exeggutor pauses for a tense moment, Cotton unsure whether his plan had worked - but then the elongated palm ushers an indignant roar. Stomping forwards, his tail thrashes wildly, a thickened aura of verdant energy encasing the appendage. The loud crack that follows sends Koffing hurtling towards a nearby tree, the Poison type slumping to the floor in defeat. Cotton watches on in awe, wasting no time in celebrating the abrupt shift in momentum.

With Koffing out of the picture, Custard wears an expression of steely determination. Twisting midair, the Togetic generates a swirling turbulence within the wooded clearing, gathering the noxious fumes and venting them through the canopy. This, combined with the defeat of Koffing, clearly improves the atmosphere - transforming it from one of frenzied uncertainty to a rousing chorus of onlookers, cheering you and your Pokemon on to victory. Reading the mood, Souffle takes this moment to shine with a faint purple glow, jauntily crying out as she envelops Shiftry within the pulse. The tengu is quickly rejuvenated, nodding his thanks to Souffle - but the Igglybuff is not finished there. Closing her eyes, she concentrates intently, fervently praying for the safety of all those in alliance with her. A faint golden haze descends on the copse, and Skuntank seems to grimace, realising that the writing may well be on the wall.

As the pandemonium was continuing to unfurl, Sprinkles hops closer to Shuckle. Without warning, he burns with a blinding white flash, the abrupt emission staggering Shuckle and causing their grip to loosen. Honey is immediately free, hurriedly gaining altitude to ensure a repeat occurrence would be impossible. With his friend out of danger, Sprinkles shines an otherworldly yellow glow into the face of Shuckle, confusing him thoroughly. What follows is a one sided massacre. Carrot hardens their carapace, taking careful aim before rocketing into Shuckle, and though the Bug barely grimaces in response, he is launched a sizeable distance away. Worse still, Carrot careens through with a second scathing blow, this time visibly inflicting harsher wounds. Honey only further punctuates these with well timed streams of pink energy, each Moonblast landing seconds after every charge of Carbink. When they finish, Shuckle lays slumped on the ground, leaving only Skuntank standing.

With gusto, you attempt to lodge your knife in the side of the overgrown skunk. Skuntank seems perplexed, frozen with his face an unflattering mixture of confusion and rage. As the blade finds purchase, his senses sharpen, and rage wins out. With a roar, Skuntank bats you away, a cloud of noxious fumes following thereafter. As you wheeze on the ground, Custard howls with disdain, eyes burning with furious Psychic energy. As the Togetic fires this gathered force, Flabebe cheers him on, the ensuing blast sending Skuntank reeling. Taken aback by being so wounded by a blow that should by all rights have glanced off harmlessly, Skuntank is made a sitting duck for the Prince to lob yet another brilliant verdant orb into his face. and to add insult to injury, the fumbling Skuntank is further humiliated, Flabebe channelling nature to entwine the Poison type, sending him tumbling. Battered and bruised, the skunk considers escape, checking the possible routes - but his tenacity gets the better of him. With a bellowing defiance, he spews forth fulminating darkness, the pulse surging over the bodies of Custard and the Prince, wounding them nastily and soliciting a mocking cackle from Skuntank.

"I thinks I got the hang of this now."

Despite his bravado, it is painfully clear that he does not have much left in him. With only Skuntank remaining, the atmosphere had firmly shifted back in your favour.

Where there's a will-o-wisp, there's a way

[Appreciate you picking this up, LB - can't wait to see where things will end up!]

Jumping headlong into things and not thinking about the consequences had been Zak's strong suit for quite some time. It wasn't that he was a reckless person as much as finding himself quite sure of his team mates and their ability to cope well together in tricky situations. It was this attitude that led to the man and his Pokémon finding themselves lost amongst the foliage of the Arboreal Cradle with nothing but a name as their guide. It wasn't the end of the world, though, given the man had good company in his Banette and always liked that certain kind of solitude and feeling of being one with nature that you can only find deep in the woods.

As the man and his spectral companion pressed on and the woodland around the two only seemed to get thicker, their hopes of finding a guide of any kind were beginning to wane. Tim the Pidgeot had only recently flown Zak to the region he now found himself lost within and he had promised him a rest, otherwise the trainer might have been tempted to seek out a better view of where they now found themselves from the sky. Whilst deep in a daydream about how the two could find their way, Shane noticed something strange dancing between the trees and tapped at his trainer's knee to alert the man.

"That looks like an ember... but didn't the website we found say that fires couldn't burn in the Feywood?" Zak questioned his companion as he started off in pursuit of the strange sight that was dancing off into the distance before them. If there was fire, surely that meant they were heading in the wrong direction but there was something otherworldly about the dancing flame that had the man intrigued. Maintaining a hot pursuit, the peculiar ember led them deeper and deeper into the ancient woodland before coming to a halt at a small clearing.

Always quick to examine his surroundings in case a prank of some kind could be planned, Shane wheeled around the clearing, circling directly behind where the flame was now floating. Below the flame, a ring of mushrooms began to light up of their own accord, as if reacting to the fire's presence in some way. This enchanted the man and his Pokémon, the pair drawn in by the strange allure of this fungal formation...

"What the..." Zak's voiced trailed off as he took in the radiance of the surroundings the two now found suddenly themselves in. Even Shane found himself disarmed by the instantaneous change of locale. Moments before, they had been approaching the circle of strange mushrooms for a closer look but now they found themselves in a glade of technicolour. Every hue Zak could imagine was encapsulated in some form, be it in the leaves on the trees or bushes down to the grasses that grew beneath them. The sight wasn't nearly as impressive to Shane and he was disappointed to find that the ember that had let them to this odd place was nowhere to be seen.

Attempting to get a bearing upon their new surroundings, it wasn't long before the man encountered something flitting around amongst the trees once again. At first, he assumed it was the flame reappearing before them once more but upon closer inspection it appeared to be a Pokémon. Though it was tiny and remarkably fast, he quickly recognised it as a Flabébé clutching tightly to a blue flower. Zipping frantically from one spot to another, it appeared to be looking for something and that something soon became clear as the fairy realised the man's presence and approached with its request.

"W-wait you can... talk?", the man's words trailed off as he tried to comprehend whether he had heard correctly. Though he knew of Flabébé, he didn't realise they could engage in human speech, particularly with such eloquence. Though Shane privately revelled at the thought of a wayward child and the grin forming from this notion was somewhat hard for him to contain, he brought his trainer back to reality with a tug on the leg of his jeans, motioning for the man to provide his response to the other Pokémon's plea.

"I haven't seen anybody since arriving in the Cradle I'm afraid, my companion Shane and I got lost and only found ourselves here after following a strange flame through the trees. If there's anything I can do to help you find this child, though, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand?"

Emp- There was no way you weren't seeing this through. You pull yourself up onto Ty prehistoric mount, the beautiful creature would make the trip to the temple a whole lot swifter. Nikola grips tightly to your neck as Aerodactyl surges off the ground, its powerful wings beating forcefully as it climbs higher and higher into the sky. You take a peak at the ground below, before quickly fixing your sights back in front of you to avoid making yourself sick. Aerodactyl was travelling at a fast pace, you were covering ground quickly. The view of the Cradle from this height was truly magnificent. You could see the frosty peaks of the Palearchean at the northern end of the Cradle, while much closer you could see the border between the Hallows and the Glades, the worn barren savannah giving way to dense tropical forest. The Old King's Temple was somewhere within the Glades, thankfully Ty new exactly where to find it, a benefit of his age and experience.

The intense sunlight beams down upon you. With no shade you're forced to endure the full intensity of its baking heat, although Nikola being draped across your neck at least shields it from the hazardous ultra violet radiation. Ty is silent for the most part, his mind likely occupied with thoughts as his tries to come up with a way to handle this situation. It is only when he spots the temple that he decides to speak. "Right there, see that small break in the trees?" Looking in the direction the old hunter points, you notice the break in the thick canopy. The weathered stone of the temples upper reaches stop just above the treeline, you'd reached your destination.

Aerodactyl lands on the soft ground surrounding the temple. You dismount alongside Ty, although the elderly hunter looks uneasy. This uneasiness soon spreads to you, why was it so quiet? There was no one in sight, no sounds came from the surrounding forest, which you'd expect to be full of Pokemon. It was eerie to say the least. "Hmmm", Ty moans, "I had expected reinforcements would meet us here." He recalls Aerodactyl before releasing his Tyranitar once more. "Not to mention I figured the Lythanki would have guards posted on the temple." Ty starts to walk towards the temple entrance. "We have no way of knowing whether that monster is here yet or not. Should we head on in and see if there's any signs of him or should we wait for reinforcements?" Ty seemed uncertain on how to proceed. Was the experienced hunter losing his edge?

King Ghidorah- This was beginning to feel hopeless, almost pointless. You almost lose your resolve completely, but your Pokemon deserved better. Snapping yourself from self doubt, you order your Pokemon back onto the offensive.

Mr.Mime rushes in, seeking to Copycat Kyurem's Breaking Swipe technique, while Mamoswine breathes deeply before billowing a thick mist to stop his stats from being dropped any further. Mr Mime rushes into close range, but its Breaking Swipe is met by a Brutal Swing of Black Kyurem's tail. Mr.Mime is crushed into the side of the cavern and Kyurem quickly puts an end to it with a Shadow Claw.

Mr.Mime is unable to battle! Mr.Mime gained 2 levels!

As Mr.Mime slumps against the wall of the cavern, Mamoswine charges in. At this point his Superpower strikes with less power than he'd hope for. Kyurem slams itself down onto the Ice type's back, Pressing the entire weight of its body down upon the worn swine. Mamoswine's knees buckle and it collapses beneath the Guardian's bulk.

Mamoswine is unable to battle! Mamoswine gained 2 levels!

Rising up, Kyurem lets out a victorious cry, its form reverting to normal as it releases a burst of electrical energy.

You fought hard and you fought well. Relentless, tenacious, almost enough but you lack experience. A shame that you won't live long enough to gain some, but die with the knowledge that you pushed me to my limit.

An Icicle Spears gathers in front of Kyurem's mouth. Instinctively, you recall your unconscious Pokemon into their balls. You begin to slowly take steps backwards, but you knew that at this point, running was futile. You're breath slows as you resolve to accept the fate that has been decided for you. Kyurem fires the spear with a tremendous roar. Your eyes clamp shut as you see the splinter of ice hurtle toward you. Suddenly something slams into you, not from the front, but the side! Almost in the same instant, you feel a burn cold in your shoulder as the Icicle Spear strikes home. If not for the shove, the spear likely would have pierced your heart. You slip into unconscious as your body succumbs to shock, eyes rolling into the back of your head.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The searing pain in your shoulder stirs you from your slumber. You reach immediately for your left shoulder, which was coated in dried leaves. Fresh blood dampened the leaves directly over the wound, but the good news was that you were alive, but how?! A fire was crackling nearby, looking across from the warming flames, you spot the white Lycanroc who you'd encountered during your climb up the Edelweiss. Was it the Lycanroc who had saved you from Kyurem's finishing blow? If so, why? There was certainly something odd about this Pokemon. Your bag and Pokeballs were all set off to the side, well out of reach, especially in your injured state.
Connor- As much as Marco probably deserved the beating for his behaviour, you couldn't allow it to get out of hand. With that in mind, you pull a Barbiri berry from you bag as Sophie attempts to communicate with the Pokemon that had decided to put Marco in his place. Her telepathic message sees the Pokemon stop its assault on the Pancham, instead it turns and fixes its attention solely upon you.
Its big bright eyes fixed on you, you crouch down and present the berry. The shields on the Pokemon's side swing around to grasp the berry. The Pokemon breaks eye contact with you as it turns around to consume the treat that you were so kind to offer. Upon finishing the berry, the Pokemon turns back around, staring up at Sophie as it speaks back to her with raspy groans.
"It thanks us for the berry and asks if we are here to complete the challenge and reunite it with its troops? It says its been quite sometime since the last challenger came, it would very much like to be back with its friends." Sophie relays the Pokemon's question. A challenge? Had this Pokemon just been waiting down here in this subterranean temple for someone to come along and help it complete a challenge? What even was this Pokemon? You needed more information. Marco brushes himself off and returns to your side, a displeased scowl on his face as he glares at the strange Pokemon. Cain continues to snicker at the Pancham, he'd gotten exactly what he deserved.
Leaving the fallen soldiers behind without so much as a second thought you break into a run toward your master, to right the wrongs of the other battalion. You climb under and over the gargantuan roots anchoring the even more gargantuan trees, the occurrence of such sky-scraping forestry increasing the deeper into the feawood you traversed. Covering several kilometres of ground the sounds of a scuffle pique your ears, coaxing you into a jog as you close in on the action like a homing beacon. Soon enough you spot the Mindbender horseback, handling the last Zygarde standing with apparent ease, now accompanied by a trio of his own Shadow mutts. His partners needn’t even intervene, the Grimmsnarl standing close guard over its master while the Rapidash focused on sustaining the hivemind; you almost wonder what all the rush was about, given he had such a clear handle over the situation.
“Your timing is impeccable, brothers. Now, pass me the Zygarde.” You wordlessly comply, kneeling down to present the offering. The Grimmsnarl barks at your very approach; in spite of your service and unwavering loyalty, it just didn’t seem to like you. With the resisting beast safely outnumbered, the Mindbender breaks focus from the skirmish and approaches the lifeless offering, swallowing it with the device you last saw on the night of the sacrifice, quickly corrupting it and rejuvenating its health stores. The three against one battle then became four, desperate to watch as the lone green Zygarde was ringfenced by its fallen brothers, Rushing it left and right feverishly, fangs bare with Shadow energy. Xander watched silently as Mindbender's horde of shadow hounds tore at their still pure brother. As the corrupted Guardians continued their assault, Xander felt a familiar wave wash over him. The pain cries of the Zygarde seemed to trigger something, it was almost as if the Guardian's cry had broken Mindbender's hold over him. Ammorith seemed to experiencing something similar. Xander was overwhelmed as his memories mixed. His vile acts that he'd committed while under Mindbender's control clashed with his inherent protective nature. Xander was at odds with himself. With his mind at war with itself, his body refused to move. He didn't know what to do. He was shattered. This was their chance, they weren't under Mindbender's control anymore and he had no idea, his attention fixed solely on the last Zygarde. How could they do this on their own though? Empoleon and Ivysaur were down, so was Ammorith's Armaldo. This was all too much. Xander could feel his heart beat sore, his vision was beginning to waver, his breathes were rapid.....
Corvisquire's claws latch onto Xander's collar as the bird drags him backwards into the scrub. Ammorith followed, they couldn't afford to split up now. Xander crouched down in a nearby bush, arms wrapped around his legs as he struggled with himself. It was too late. Mindbender already had all of the Zygarde. Some of his Pokemon were already worn from the battle with guardian, the other hunters were either unconscious or still under Mindbender's control. What could they hope to achieve here? Dreepy and Corvisquire rested on him, trying to comfort their trainer. They'd never seen him like this.
The Ancient Feywood
TheKnightsFury: The Mindbender was right all that time ago, putting you under was a mercy. When the sedation subsides, panic takes shape like a cluster of spark plugs in your abdomen. Tension grows in your face and limbs, your mind replaying the horrific events you’ve endured and orchestrated like a movie reel. Your breaths come in gasps and you feel like you might black out; while panic attacks usually triggered a fight or flight response you could do neither, resigning to the forest floor in spite of the immeasurable danger it would place you in. Ammorith was either too strong or too shellshocked to let his guard slip, attempting to stir you from the spiral to no avail. Your own Pokemon would fare no better, ultimately coming to roost on your cradled body as the rest of the world didn’t seem to matter anymore.
And yet the world kept turning. And a pair of slow footsteps trudged toward you... “It has worked,” the Mindbender remarks with erred caution, “We have lured the Aura Breaker out from its hiding. Kill these two, we have no use for them now.” The Grimmsnarl seems initially perplexed, not privy to this part of the plan. This doesn’t deter him for long, his Dark tendrils twisting through the underbrush like creeper vines, up your legs and around your frame in a Lariat. The Pokemon has enough muscle fibres to ensnare you all, even Dreepy struggling to phase to freedom. You feel ribs start to crack as the ogre tightens his bind, air escaping from your lungs for real this time with the physical pain somehow easier to shoulder than the mental. Inhalation felt like pushing up a lead weight on your chest, blue in the face as a dizzying sensation takes hold and life slips away…
It was like a Safeguard on steroids, a green hexagonal dome wedging between yourselves and the Mindbender, severing the troll’s tendrils to his immense agony. The shield’s architect eludes you, but its pattern was strikingly familiar; it was Zygarde’s signature, on a scale you had never seen before. The Mindbender and his Pokemon were corralled and for the first time, you catch a glimpse of fear in his eyes. Released from the binds you fall onto your hands and knees in coughing fits, efforts to inflate your lungs met with intense resistance from your shattered ribcage. The life squeezed out of them, Corvisquire was a ruffled ball of plumage and Dreepy looked like he had died all over again. Ammorith was broken and beat too, using the last of his strength to point out the immense serpentine figure emerging from the horizon.
LIFEBRINGER, YOU HAVE DEVESTATED THE NATURAL ORDER. FOR THIS YOU SHALL PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE!
Spoiler: show
With a show of its strength it flares its neck frills, scales combusting with pure energy as it sends a Thousand Arrows raining down on the corrupted canids, freeing their victim and turning the tides in one fell swoop. The Aura Breaker locks its eight hexagonal eyes with yours, as though peering into your very soul. Its final gift then comes in an amped up Pain Split, a small fraction of its godly health stores unbreaking your fractures and resuscitating all of your Pokemon, on and off the field. You’re given the strength to stand on two feet, your allies returning to the air with a new lease of life.
NOW FLY YOU FOOLS, YOUR BLOOD NEED NOT BE SHED TODAY.
With a miraculous lifeline dangling in front of you, it seemed Ammorith’s patience was beginning to wear thin: “You heard ‘em you big dummy, let’s make for the hills already!”
With a miraculous lifeline dangling in front of you, it seemed Ammorith’s patience was beginning to wear thin: “You heard ‘em you big dummy, let’s make for the hills already!”
The rough embrace of Grimmsnarl offered the sweet embrace of death. Death would be quiet, in death he could no longer be harmed or exploited. Alas, it was not his time. A blinding green safeguard severed Grimmsnarl's hold as the true Guardian revealed himself. It seemed the Zygarde's they'd been fighting were only fractions of the Guardian's power. Xander gasped for air, he was in intense pain but the physical pain drew away from the mental anguish that had previously consumed him. He watched as Zygarde skilled its corrupted brethren with a powerful display of force, Mindbender looked completely rattled.
Xander locked eyes with the Guardian, suddenly feeling a surge of rejuvenating energy. His Pokemon felt it as well, Zygarde had taken their pain upon itself. Xander was in awe of the selfless act, the Guardian then urging them to run. Xander's feet wouldn't move, no matter how hard Ammorith tried to pull him away. It wasn't his mind this time, it was his heart. His faith had returned. He remembered back to that moment when he stood against Mindbender during the ritual. That night he had expressed his faith that Zygarde would stand against the Mindbender's plan and he was right. Zygarde had saved him, even after everything he'd help the Mindbender achieved. In splitting his pain, Zygarde may have made itself vulnerable, Xander couldn't let the Guardian fight alone. Grimmsnarl was reeling from Zygarde's intervention, he had to capitalise. "Dreepy quick, Thunder Wave on Grimmsnarl!" Xander urged the Dragon to act quickly. "Corvisquire follow up with a Smart Strike!" Xander selected Empoleon and Ivysaur's balls, releasing the rejuvenated pair. Mindbender couldn't fight a war on two fronts, not with his troops down. Rapidash was vulnerable and needed to be taken down. "Ivysaur, bombard Rapidash with a Sludge Bomb, Empoleon get in there and strike it with a Steel Wing!" Xander was beginning to feel more like himself with every passing second. It might have just been a surge in adrenaline, but he had to make use of it while he could.
Her telepathic message sees the Pokemon stop its assault on the Pancham, instead it turns and fixes its attention solely upon you.
Its big bright eyes fixed on you, you crouch down and present the berry. The shields on the Pokemon's side swing around to grasp the berry. The Pokemon breaks eye contact with you as it turns around to consume the treat that you were so kind to offer. Upon finishing the berry, the Pokemon turns back around, staring up at Sophie as it speaks back to her with raspy groans.
"It thanks us for the berry and asks if we are here to complete the challenge and reunite it with its troops? It says its been quite sometime since the last challenger came, it would very much like to be back with its friends." Sophie relays the Pokemon's question. A challenge? Had this Pokemon just been waiting down here in this subterranean temple for someone to come along and help it complete a challenge? What even was this Pokemon? You needed more information. Marco brushes himself off and returns to your side, a displeased scowl on his face as he glares at the strange Pokemon. Cain continues to snicker at the Pancham, he'd gotten exactly what he deserved.
Mercifully, the peace offering was well received. The strange Pokemon separates from Marco, who quickly stomps back to Sweeney's side, his scowling face only intensifying as Sophie flashes him the smuggest look imaginable. While the urge to comfort the sulking Pancham was pressing, the Bartender decided against it - encouraging that kind of behaviour would only further embolden the panda, and next time the situation may not play out as favourably. A couple bruises now were worth it, compared to risking a more catastrophic injury later. This brief moment of reflection is soon interrupted though, as Sophie relays a message. It would seem their foray into the ruins would not end quite yet.
Mulling his options over, Sweeney ruminates on the adventure so far. Pretty much everything that could go wrong had gone wrong, and so jumping feet first into another potential mine field would be ill advised. On the other hand, it was unlikely that this Pokemon was going to get a similar opportunity in the near future - it was only by a series of unfortunate coincidences that they had even stumbled upon the temple. Turning to Sophie, he could see that the Solosis was every bit as apprehensive as he was, a pained mixture of reluctance and pity on her face. With a shrug of his shoulders, Sweeney decides to take the plunge. Misfortune had a way of finding him regardless. Might as well assist as many as possible along the way. Clearly this instinct had won out for Sophie too, as the Solosis was all too eager to relay the affirmation.
"We'll do whatever we can to help."
Nikola grips tightly to your neck as Aerodactyl surges off the ground, its powerful wings beating forcefully as it climbs higher and higher into the sky. You take a peak at the ground below, before quickly fixing your sights back in front of you to avoid making yourself sick. Aerodactyl was travelling at a fast pace, you were covering ground quickly. The view of the Cradle from this height was truly magnificent. You could see the frosty peaks of the Palearchean at the northern end of the Cradle, while much closer you could see the border between the Hallows and the Glades, the worn barren savannah giving way to dense tropical forest. The Old King's Temple was somewhere within the Glades, thankfully Ty new exactly where to find it, a benefit of his age and experience.
The intense sunlight beams down upon you. With no shade you're forced to endure the full intensity of its baking heat, although Nikola being draped across your neck at least shields it from the hazardous ultra violet radiation. Ty is silent for the most part, his mind likely occupied with thoughts as his tries to come up with a way to handle this situation. It is only when he spots the temple that he decides to speak. "Right there, see that small break in the trees?" Looking in the direction the old hunter points, you notice the break in the thick canopy. The weathered stone of the temples upper reaches stop just above the treeline, you'd reached your destination.
Aerodactyl lands on the soft ground surrounding the temple. You dismount alongside Ty, although the elderly hunter looks uneasy. This uneasiness soon spreads to you, why was it so quiet? There was no one in sight, no sounds came from the surrounding forest, which you'd expect to be full of Pokemon. It was eerie to say the least. "Hmmm", Ty moans, "I had expected reinforcements would meet us here." He recalls Aerodactyl before releasing his Tyranitar once more. "Not to mention I figured the Lythanki would have guards posted on the temple." Ty starts to walk towards the temple entrance. "We have no way of knowing whether that monster is here yet or not. Should we head on in and see if there's any signs of him or should we wait for reinforcements?" Ty seemed uncertain on how to proceed. Was the experienced hunter losing his edge?
The archaic aeroplane beat its wings with increased velocity, its flight party ready for take off. The clay flats would make for a fine airstrip as the Aerodactyl broke into a run, generating enough lift to take to the skies and leave the desolate peaks of Titan’s Butte a shrinking silhouette in their wake. Emp wondered if he should have applied sunscreen before their departure, sweltering even with the wind beating against his face. The increased altitude and prolonged sun exposure had left his skin a tinge of pink; Helioptile had spared his neck and shoulders at least, taking the brunt of ultraviolet radiation and charging his power stores to boot. The trainer would feel a static shock whenever they came into turbulence, the startled reptilian unable to contain all the excess voltage.
Soon enough they made a break into greener pastures, the leagues of desert replaced with lush rainforest. Ty set a bearing for a temple nestled in the canopies from there, their speed and altitude dropping as they made for a landing. With the cover of trees over them, Emp was able to better assess the sun damage, his body pink all over sans for a Nikola-shaped tan line around his neck. The Helioptile was simply frazzled It was all the trainer could do not to elicit a laugh, fortunately Ty was on hand with more serious matters.
"We have no way of knowing whether that monster is here yet or not. Should we head on in and see if there’s any signs of him or should we wait for reinforcements?" Ty for the first time seemed unsure of himself. Emp was honestly taken aback that he even cared to ask his opinion after brushing him off hours before. Was the Tyrant’s sureness faltering in his old age? There was no way to speculate, so in absence of leadership the trainer offered up his own two cents, studying the temple front with curiosity. While the surroundings were entirely new, the outsider sensed something off too.
“It seems as quiet as our last destination, perhaps we were beaten here after all,” he assessed, overcompensating for Ty’s lack of assurance, “I think we should investigate. If he’s in there we might catch him by surprise. If he’s not, well, no harm lost, right?” waiting for Ty to confer, he cautiously cupped the ball containing his final unaccounted-for teammate. After the hunter’s ace interrupted last night’s fateful bar fight, Emp couldn’t resist withdrawing the species’ pupa form from the inn’s dinky old computer. It seemed serendipitous that they had crossed paths, and perhaps Taiko could be coaxed out of his shell by seeing a master at work.
