A feeling of unease had been hanging in the air ever since Jayson had returned from Bedlam Ridge. They'd all recovered, well for the most part, Blinky's mutation had become permanent but the Chinchou seemed to enjoy his new look, using it to spook unsuspecting Pokemon. The uneasiness was due to Jayson's latest capture, one that he wasn't quite sure how to handle. Moros, the Shadow Metang that he had found locked within the strange puzzle in the quarry. The Shadow Pokemon was cold and calculating, Jayson was doing his best to develop a bond with it, however he was only having limited success. The Metang possessed incredible power, every training exercise Jayson put it through, it excelled at. While the Metang was fine when it came to training exercises, as soon as it came to battling another Pokemon, things went to shit.

Along with refusing the majority of his orders, Moros lack any self control or preservation. The Metang had proven strong enough to handle just about all of his Pokemon. Only Atalanta and Sigurd had managed to overcome the Metang, the Gallade handling the fight better when not under the influence of radiation poisoning or Shadow Sky. However the Shadow Metang was growing stronger with every battle, Jayson feared that before too long the Metang would be too strong for them to handle. It was for this reason he had called in some assistance. He'd met another trainer awhile back who had dealt with Shadow Pokemon before, he hoped that he may be able to assist with his situation.

He had been called Jayson's base to help out with an unruly Shadow Pokemon, yet here Hyrem was having troubles with his own troublesome Shadow Tepig. No matter how many times Kenna and Nissa were easily able to catch up to the hog for her trainer, Ganon would always seem to slip out of his grasp, Tackle him to the ground, and then be off again, forcing the Rapidash and Grovyle to pursue him again. "This is such a sidetrack," he grumbled to himself, "but I have to get Ganon under control! How am I supposed to show Jayson how to work with Shadow Pokemon if I'm having trouble with my own?"

Up ahead, however, was a cliff face, a dead end! "There we go! No other place for Ganon to go now! Let's go, Kenna, Nissa!" They nodded before following Ganon to the dead end, where he turned to face his teammates with a glare. "Teeepiiig teeepiiig teeepiiig..." he growled a warning before a burst of purple light enveloped him, catching the three pursuers off guard. "What? What's happening?" asked Hyrem before he watched in disbelief as Ganon's size changed dramatically, growing twice as big, then three times as big before finally stopping. The glow faded to reveal a bigger, chubbier looking hog that pushed himself up and stood on two legs for the first time. Hyrem was brought out of his shock by Dexelle's ping, signaling that a completely new Pokemon was in front of them now:

Pignite, the Fire Pig Pokemon, and the evolved form of Tepig. Pignite has an internal flame in its stomach that grows more powerful by burning the food it has eaten. A stronger flame means a stronger Pignite, and its high metabolism requires it to eat lots of food often, making it a more demanding Pokemon for beginning trainers to handle. It can also breathe smoke to ward off potential predators while it makes its escape.

"But that's...that's impossible," said Hyrem. "Dad said the Shadow Pokemon he met in the Orre region couldn't evolve until they were purified! What's going on here!?"

"PiiiiiiigNITE!!" Ganon roared as he charged Kenna, his Arms raised in front of him and ready to Thrust against the unicorn. "Kenna, watch out, he just got a lot tougher to deal with-" Before Kenna could react to her trainer's warnings, she was knocked over by Ganon's assault, all five of his palm attacks hitting across her left flank before she was pushed against the cliff, Hyrem being tossed off her and landing nearby. Ganon ran straight past Nissa, who was distracted by her friends' fall and went to help them up instead of attacking the Shadow Pignite. "Ugh, I think we're fine, Nissa, just a little shook up, that's all." As he looked towards where Ganon was heading next, he tensed up further. "Oh no, that's Jayson's base he's running to! Quick, after him!" he said, mounting Kenna again and letting her take him there while Nissa jumped to tree after tree, hoping to cut off Ganon's path again, and hopefully before he reached the base and perhaps attack something there...

Atalanta flew into the courtyard at a staggering speed. The Decidueye had been watching from her outpost as Hyrem entered the valley. Watching from the shadows she witnessed the evolution of the Shadow Tepig into a Shadow Pignite, which showed no remorse as it attacked its own teammates. It then rushed down the path straight towards the base, Atalanta knew she had to beat it there.

Sigurd relayed the information to Jayson, the Gallade's telepathic abilities were handy, especially in situations like this. Jayson had been expecting Hyrem today, but he hadn't expected this. He'd been training with Moros when Atalanta flew in, just basic drills, nothing to serious. He sensed that the Shadow Metang had somehow tapped into his conversation with Sigurd, as before he knew it the Shadow Pokemon had shot off in the direction of the incoming Pignite.

"Shit", Jayson cursed, two Shadow Pokemon clashing certainly couldn't end well, could it? Balerion had been on standby in case Moros got out of hand and rushed to Jayson's side when he realised that had to go after Moros. Jayson mounted the large shiny Charizard and Balerion took off after the Shadow Metang. They were slowly closing in on Moros, but in the distance Jayson could see a cloud of dust incoming, likely kicked up by Hyrem's Shadow Pignite. It seemed like a clash of Shadow Pokemon might not be avoidable.

The Valley Fort

Darkness has enveloped the forest but thankfully someone has been kind enough to place some lanterns along the path. On closer inspection, each lantern is actually a human skull, mounted on a wooden stake and a candle burning in each eye socket. Following the dully lit path, trainers arrive at the steps of a large stone fort. Lighting strikes crash down from the gathering storm clouds, providing momentary bursts of light. For some reason the electricity seems to be drawn to the structure, but why? The large wooden door creaks on rusty hinges as you enter into the barren hall. Spinarak webs drape delicately from the walls, however they fail to conceal the headless skeletons left lying haphazardly around the room. Clearly the scene of a massacre, maybe it was best to turn back now?

Flashes of light draw you towards a door on the far side of a year. A winding staircase leads you down into the dungeon, but as you reach the bottom of the stairs, you find water lapping at your feet. Another surge of electricity temporarily illuminates the room as electricity jumps between two electrodes. The electrodes seemed to be connected to a large steel table in the middle of the room, broken leather straps allude to a struggle. More sparks jump between the electrodes, taking a better look at the room you notice there are apples floating in the water. This was certainly strange.

Apple Bobbing

"Retrieve the apples with mouth alone, for what purpose this is unknown. You and your partner must sink your teeth, be aware of the creature that creeps beneath." The strange voice seems to have no source, however it seems it has a task for you.

Using only your mouth, you and one of your Pokemon must each retrieve an apple from the water. Those who are successful will be rewarded, however beware as there may be traps and obstacles concealed by the water.

The Valley Fort will be representing the types Water, Fire and Fighting

"Oh my, these are actual human skulls! How macabre and delightful! Dear Scylla, I think I've found my favorite of the attractions so far! They really went all out for the sake of authenticity!" Scylla didn't appreciate the fact that it looked like there were a countless number of human skulls with glowing eyes staring at her, and hid behind her trainer. "Oh come now, they're dead. They can't hurt you! They can't even point menacingly at something in an attempt to damage your sanity! Surely you can take this much." Scylla just gripped tighter, causing the woman to chuckle before continuing forward. She saw the piles of headless bodies and wondered for a bit whether they were all killed or this was just a case of rampant graverobbing. Either way, she was impressed and didn't seem to be that perturbed as she found a spiral staircase going down further. Scylla began to protest about going any further, but her trainer was relentless and continued. Down in the dungeon, she found something that was fairly familiar...a large, metal operating table and a bunch of electrodes. "Oh, how exciting! They were making homunculi! Artificial human life! I would love to study their techniques!" She looked at the table before sporting a grin.

"Hey Scylla, would you like to help me pull a bit of a prank on them? I don't think there is anything lethal being passed through those electrodes, so do you want to strap me to the table?" Scylla protested loudly, as it was clearly a dangerous idea, but finally reneged. As her trainer hopped onto the table, a small current of electricity coursed through her body, making her gasp a bit and chuckle. "How sensational!" She laid down, continuing to feel a small amount of electricity followed by occasional larger bursts, as Scylla strapped her in.

"Ohhhhh, helpppppppp meeeeeeee!" she started to wail, as she weakly thrashed in her bindings. Scylla was not amused.

"I dunno, Meowth," Keith was saying as he inspected the lanterns. "I like the look, no question, but if it were me, I'd probably have gone with one candle per skull, instead of one per eye socket, get that whole Duskull vibe, y'know? In fact, that's not a bad idea to keep in mind for next year..."

"Oy," groaned Meowth, rolling his eyes as he sat on his Trainer's shoulder. Halloween wasn't generally an unpleasant time for him, but this time, his Trainer's choice of costume was not one of his favorites- primarily because it was a Weezing costume, and Meowth was the Weezing's second head. For Keith, it had been a choice between this and his old James of Team Rocket costume, and considering how Keith associated the latter with memories of a certain catastrophic Halloween incident, the choice for him was quite clear. "Can we just get movin'? Yeesh. How does Mustard stand dis?"

"Well, don't forget, that sort of thing is all a Weezing's second head knows," Keith reminded Meowth. "I mean, there are Pokédex entries that allege that a pair of Koffing can fuse together to form a Weezing, but then, there's also entries that claim that a newborn Larvitar eats an entire mountain, and that Slugma and Magcargo are hotter than the surface of the sun-"

"I swear ta Arceus I'm gonna Fury Swipes ya inta next week if ya don't Clamperl up and get movin'," Meowth interrupted flatly.

"Alright, alright, yeesh," Keith grumbled, continuing down the path. "Who shat in your cornnflakes this morning?"

"Ehh, sorry," sighed Meowth. "I'd just prefer if next year youse decided ta dress as sometin' wit only one head."

"I'll consider it," replied Keith. And soon, they arrived at a massive stone fort, illuminated primarily (and quite impressively) by the occasional flash of lightning. As they entered, they took note of the Spinarak webs and headless skeletons adorning the entrance hall. The differences in how Keith and Meowth thought were quite pronounced here- Keith's thoughts ranged from confidence that Aragog could produce better webs than these to vague curiosity as to what could have happened to the skulls to leave the rest of the skeleton intact. Meowth's thoughts meanwhile, amounted to a strong desire to drag Keith the hell out of there and run screaming into the night like a wounded Wimpod.

Clearly, Meowth's cowardly instincts did not win out, for the duo continued on, through a door, down a staircase, and into some sort of strange, macabre laboratory. A steel table, with broken straps to suggest something that had been there against its will was most certainly now on the loose. And illuminated by the flashing electricity, they could see that the water in which they were standing contained a number of... apples?

Keith looked at Meowth and opened his mouth, but Meowth was quick to sense what Keith was about to suggest and even quicker to refuse. "Hell, no," Meowth said before Keith could utter so much as a single syllable. "Let's just get our Rare Candy and get da hell outta here. Puttin' Meowth in water, ya gotta be outta yer mind..." he grumbled, continuing on in this vein as Keith searched around for the Rare Candy for which he'd come.

Jess was lost.

She had been traveling the woods with her companions when a clap of lightning caused Epona to spook, sending her racing separate from Link and Midna. When Jess finally managed to calm the Ponyta down enough to slow her pace, they found themselves completely isolated in an unknown part of the forest. The remaining mount and rider pair trotted nervously in search of their lost comrades (as Jess just hoped they weren’t accosted by some creepy kid wearing an ancient cursed mask).

Rather than a mischievous boy of bones though, they came upon a path quite literally lit by lanterns composed of cranium – skulls stripped of skin and pride, speared upon stakes to warn all passerby – emanating eerie glows from dripping candles behind both sockets. Jess shivered at the sight, yet urged her steed steady onward, following the warmth for lack of a better clue to their whereabouts, hopefully seeking shelter of some sort.

When they reached the crossing’s conclusion, they came upon a towering fortress – an old and ominous silhouette, backlit by intermittent bursts of brightness, which seemed to be lured to the soaring stone structure itself. Jess gulped as she stared up at the intimidating building, wary but at the same time growing even more worried by the gathering gray overhead and deafening booms, which triggered both her and horse to jump with each low but loud rumble. Epona pawed the earth fretfully, clearly even more concerned about getting caught in the rain than whatever lay within the keep, thus prodding her timid trainer forward this time as the latter dismounted, leading with a deep breath as she creaked open the heavy hinges and peered inside.

The first thing that met her senses was the overpowering stench of rotting flesh, as the hall was completely barren save for a few Spinarak webs – and a multitude of headless corpses strewn all about the floor. Jess’s hand flew to her mouth at such a horrific scene; surely some sort of massacre had taken place here? She was about to slam the entrance shut and flee for her life when another flash of light arrested her attention – this time coming from a doorway on the other side of the corridor. Curiosity got the better of her, and so despite her misgivings she edged closer to the door, as if drawn to it by some mysterious force.

As she approached, she saw that the source transformed into a winding staircase, descending deep into darkness. Epona whinnied anxiously next to her, not liking the look of this at all. Jess turned and stroked her muzzle with a reassuring smile.

“I’m just gonna take a quick peek, okay? I promise it won’t take long.”

With that, she recalled Epona into her Fast Ball to make traversing easier (seeing as the equine’s long legs would have a hard time coordinating the steep and narrow steps – let alone navigate such sharp twists for added difficulty), keeping the capsule close just to be safe. To make up for the lack of continual illumination no longer provided by her stable friend’s faithful flame (for the flickers from below were too weak and sporadic to rely on), she pulled out an Ampharos-shaped flashlight she had picked up as a souvenir trinket recently and clicked it on, shining its beam into the shadowy depths as she carefully made her way down the stairwell – perhaps towards hell, she couldn’t be sure.

Arriving at the bottom at last, Jess strangely felt a damp splash rather than fire licking at her feet. Directing her ray downwards, she witnessed several inches of water flooding the floor, with what appeared to be… apples floating on the surface?

Just then, another flare of radiance filled the room, revealing what her slender spotlight had missed before: a bed of steel in the middle of the chamber, with broken leather straps on the side showing signs of struggle as sparks leapt from electrodes still attached, as if laughing gleefully between them. Her eyes widened as her heart abruptly began to beat rapid with fear. She had half-expected to find a basement full of coffins (and possibly a crazed murderous blue-haired girl wielding a clock hand), but this was infinitely far worse. Maniacal mirth and secondhand screams played in her mind like a movie as she swallowed and stumbled backwards, pressing the release button of the ball she still held in her other hand out of panic.

The occupant emerged to thankfully break her trainer’s fall, as a somewhat confused Epona nickered and nudged the trembling girl for comfort. Feeling the warm cloud of mane behind her, Jess relaxed slightly – although by contrast Epona became increasingly uneasy as she realized the wetness she was standing in, prancing about as she shook her head in apprehension.

At that moment, an enigmatic voice suddenly resonated from somewhere:

“Retrieve the apples with mouth alone, for what purpose this is unknown. You and your partner must sink your teeth, be aware of the creature that creeps beneath.”

Jess blinked, bemused by the bizarre directive, but moreover gaining more dread and distress – not to mention mistrust – by the minute. (Nevermind how unsanitary bobbing for apples would be in these conditions – it was downright dangerous what with the live wire cables connected to the centerpiece, dangling daringly close to the water's brink.) Determined to get the hell out of here as fast as she could (before a cackling clown character showed up to complete the nightmare sequence), she was about to call her company back when she noticed said filly already curiously sniffing the fruit bobbing by, enticed by the sweetness. Before Jess could utter a warning, the pony neighed with delight and STOMPed her hooves as she excitedly dove headfirst to try and sink her teeth into one of the tasty treats, and the girl could only watch with bated breath as to what ensued…

Weavile poked and prodded at the skull-lanterns, seemingly bemused by the novelty.

“You really just…embrace this kind of stuff, don’t you?” Hugo asked. The Sharp Claw Pokemon responded with a fiendish smile and a shrug as if to say “what do you expect?” Weavile weren’t exactly known for their…compassion…after all. Despite the fact that Hugo knew this was a Halloween gag, having Weavile with him made him feel a bit more at ease.

“Well, you have to give these guys credit,” said Hugo walking a few paces ahead. “They really went all out, didn’t they Weavile?

Weavile?”

Hugo turned around and realized he was suddenly alone. Weavile was nowhere to be found.

“Alright, real funny,” he said, stumbling through the corridor before running directly into the steel table. In a bit of a shock, Hugo stumbled backward and suddenly felt two sets of sharp claws on his shoulders and icy breath on the back of his neck. He furiously spun around, screaming and falling to the ground in the process. There stood Weavile grinning like the Cheshire Cat.

“WHAT THE HELL MAN!?”

"Skull lanterns, huh?" Chroma mused as she followed the path to her fellow organizer's event. "You don't see that every day. Having two candles lit at once in each of them does seem a bit inefficient, though..." She shrugged, and looked towards the sky as a burst of lightning streaked toward the building ahead of her. "Now that's an unusual degree of weather control! Not just conjuring up a rainless thunderstorm, but directing its energy to a specific point as well? Most impressive!"

Inside the building had what was probably meant to be a gruesome scene- piles of skeletons strewn about the dank chamber, all distinctly missing their heads. "Huh. Guess that makes things a little more frugal." She wandered down the stairwell, quietly wondering to herself if this Jayson person had thought of the faux massacre first, or the skull-lined passageway.

It was certainly wet in the basement- completely and utterly flooded, in fact! Definitely the sort of conditions that would create the damp atmosphere the place already had. But it seemed the water, or rather, a pair of techie doodads within the water, was what the funneled lightning was streaking toward. And he expected guests to snag fruit from the putrid, electrified fluid without the use of their hands or similar appendages? "I don't even need to test Prolego's predictive capabilities to know this is a terribly unsafe idea." She sighed, and turned to travel toward the gate from whence she came. "Sorry, kid, but I'm giving this one a hard pass."

Using only your mouth, you and one of your Pokemon must each retrieve an apple from the water. Those who are successful will be rewarded, however beware as there may be traps and obstacles concealed by the water.

One of two bases that Hyrem would be personally exploring, he looks around and wonders just how dangerous it could really be. Vi wondered the same thing, particularly for the Torchic in her Blaziken arms who trembled in fear despite being as close to his mother as possible. Meanwhile, Rengar, the father, took one look at the creepy house and shrugged, he'd seen worse on a regular basis with Amethyst and others running around. Might as well just get this over with, the Zangoose figured, and he was the first inside, with Vi and Thomas right behind and Hyrem taking up the rear.

As soon as they reach the flooded room with the apples floating around, Hyrem could see he had to do this alongside one of his Pokemon. "Well, who wants to bob for apples with me? Rengar?" His white fur bristled, and he snarled, taking a step away from the water. Vi, however, set down her son before stepping forward to join her trainer. She was just about to bend down when she caught her mate trying to catch a glance and turned sideways before beginning the game along with Hyrem. Whatever prizes that were in store for this game were hopefully beneficial to Thomas, and her beak hopefully gave her an advantage in her efforts to bite down on one of the elusive apples...

"Nyah?!" Called out a Skitty, straining her eyes against the barely lit path. She had somehow become separated by her master along the way to this base, and she was slowly feeling the looming anxiety overtake her as she wandered throughout this forest. She doubted her trainer had gone off the trail... so all she needed to do was venture through it herself, right? As she continued walking, she spotted a structure in the distance. Surely her master must have gone in here... right? As she wandered inside, a crash of lightning caused her to jump, flinging herself onto the nearest object in the room.

"Augh?!" A scream permeated the empty hall, which was only inhabited by the numerous headless skeletons that scattered it's floor.

"Mraw!" Hissed the Skitty, jumping off of whatever she had latched onto. As another flash of lightning illuminated the hall, she saw that it was none other than her master!

"Mitzi! You almost gave me a heart attack!" Ariane giggled and scooped up the small pink cat. "Have you been practicing for Halloween? Because that was extra spooky!" She clutched the cat close to her chest and made her way down to a flooded room.

"Mraw!" Mitzi exclaimed, looking at the various apples that floated around the water.

"Woah! It's like a giant apple bobbing room! That's hyper cool!" Ariane got down on her hands and knees, placing Mitzi down next to her. "All we gotta do is chomp! We just gotta grab an apple with our teeth!" Ariane's eyes lit up. "I bet you even get to eat it after you snag it!" Without another thought, Ariane and Mitzi got to work on trying to snag an apple.

Now this is some cool shit!

Tama's eyes glowed with excitement as he saw the massive fort come into view, struck repeatedly by bolts of lightning from the skies above. He didn't know who the castle belonged to, but it was someone he wanted to defeat.

"Gonna own that place someday. Right of conquest, know what I mean?"

The Rowlet perched on the boy's shoulder shook his head. He knew the boy had just heard the expression the other day on a TV show, but he'd let Tama have his moment. As if he could ever hope to beat a Trainer who owned a fort.

"I know what you're thinking. Listen, I didn't say I could beat the right now... But it will happen, mark my words!" Tama wholeheartedly believed his own hype. "But you could try and help every once in a while too, y'know? Like, evolve or something?"

By the time they'd arrived at the castle, Tama had already called out his two other companions, Totodile and Elekid, to witness the spectacle. Snorlax sayed in his Ball, though - he and Tama weren't exactly... best buddies. The four entered the main hall to find it barren, but with decidedly-human skeletons lining the walls as decoration.

"Dude. Badass!"

Elekid and Totodile were quick to agree, fist-bumping one another in anticipation of what was to come; Rowlet... not so much. What exactly had happened here prior to their arrival? It was one thing to decorate a room with pumpkins, candles and the sort for Halloween, but... human bones?

Elekid is the first to break away from the group, drawn to the flashes of light up ahead, coming from somewher edown below. The rest of the team follows, rushing downstairs into the basement to find the Electric-Type excitedly pointing at a strange device up ahead. Rowlet's eyes widened in horror, quickly realizing what the electrodes attached to the metal table were meant for. What kind of psycho owned this fort after all?!

Tama, however, didn't seem to catch one, much more concerned with the fact that, for some reasons, there were apples floating aorund in the flooded basement. Those couldn't be there by chance.

"Retrieve the apples with mouth alone, for what purpose this is unknown. You and your partner must sink your teeth, be aware of the creature that creeps beneath."

The instructions came from a faceless voice that made the whole thing even creepier, but if anything, it just made Tama more excited. If there was a challenge to be surpassed here, he damn well was gonna ace it!

"Alright guys, let's do this!" Tama said as he took off his red jacket. He was an Alolan, swimming was second nature to him. "Totodile, you're comin' with me, no apple's gonna escape your jaws! And if anything down there comes close you can always give 'em a taste of your Ice Fangs, right?!"

The small croc leaped in excitement, teeth glowing in the electrodes' light. But the voice only said Tama and one of his Pokemon could get in the water - it said nothing of outside backup.

"Elekid, just in case some random bolt of lightning goes stray, I'll need you to intercept it. Really don't wanna fry down there if electricity touches the water!"

The Electric-Type grinned and swung his arms in anticipation. This was gonna be fun!

"Rowlet, I need you to take to the air and survey the pool from up above; if you see anything headed for us, keep it at bay with your Long Reach Seed Bombs!"

With no option but to comply, the owl nodded and took flight. He hated everything about this - the castle with dead bodies and torture devices, the fact that Tama was about to jump in water with lightning falling around them, and the fact that nobody else seemed to realize how all of this was completely reckless. But orders were orders, and he did promise Professor Kukui he'd keep Tama safe...

A pair of teenage girls shivered as they walked down the spooky forest trail. They were identical twins, but their demeanor and style of dress couldn’t have been more different. The tomboy of the two, Rain, uncomfortably tugged at the hem of her frilly pink skirt and adjusted the strap of her purple seashell bikini top. A long pink ribbon with a purple tip was tied into her short blue hair. “It’s. So. Cold!” she moaned as she rubbed her arms for warmth.

The other twin smirked at her sister’s discomfort. “You were the one who suggested we draw lots to see who gets which costume,” Rina replied smugly. She was wearing a tight-fitting blue dress with orange circles on it. Her long blue hair was braided with a frilly orange ribbon and held together with an orange triangular clip. Rain groaned again and through chattering teeth exclaimed, “Well, let’s just hurry up and get inside. This path is creeping me out anyway!”

As the twins arrived at a giant castle-like fort, they followed a few other trick-or-treaters inside into the dungeon’s depths where they retrieved their candies. There they were greeted by an ominous pool of water. Their objective was simple however; all they had to do was simply bob for apples with the assistance of an accompanied Pokemon. Fortunately for them, the twins had each brought along a Pokemon from their mentor Gary. Waddling over at Rina’s side was a small Totodile who sported a pair of dark triangular shades. Some tannish-red body paint completed the look of a Krookodile. The little crocodile giggled and jiggled about, doing somewhat of a Dragon Dance to psych himself up. “Alright Wani, let’s see what you’ve got!” Rina called out and watched as the Totodile darted into the water, ready to Crunch down on as many apples as he could and then Aqua Jet on over to the next one.

When it was Rain’s turn, Rina looked at her sister expectantly to see what she was going to do. Rain simply pulled out a small fishbowl and Rina burst out with giggles as she eyed the tiny orange and white Wishiwashi inside. “Good luck with that, sis,” she laughed as Rain rolled her eyes and lowered the bowl to the water. “Here you go, Triton, knock yourself out.” “Hopefully not literally!” Rina interjected through more giggles while the little sardine seemed to be dwarfed by the nearest apple. The normally shiny Wishiwashi had been painted orange with white vertical stripes to resemble a character from a movie franchise that often got lost. Triton quickly cried out however, and all of a sudden, a swarm of fish seemed to appear out of nowhere, growing larger and larger as they formed the shape of a gigantic shark. The creature opened up its massive collective mouth and began practically inhaling apples left and right as Rina’s jaw hung open while Rain smirked.

Melissa shivered as she crept past all the bones, trying her hardest not to look at them. Skeletons seriously freaked her out and this was honestly the worst of all of the haunted houses. Which was probably why she had Wildfire, Prince, and Growlithe out.

Something clattered somewhere to the side and Melissa paused, closing her eyes. Or, at least, it was the worst until Ore decided that there might be something to find here.

"Ore," she said. "I really don't think they hid any treasure here. It's a haunted house, not a scavenger hunt."

Her Sableye chittered, but didn't return to her and Melissa silently apologized to Jayson. Hopefully, Ore didn't mess up the display too much, but it wasn't like she could check without creeping herself out.

Ore chittered again, more excitedly, and came back to lead her to what he thought was the direction of some treasure. Melissa sighed and went. At least she hopefully wouldn't get nightmares from this?

Well, literal, actual human skull lanterns. Certainly the decoration of choice of someone to go to the sock hop with, right?

Mmm, no, not quite sarcastic enough.

In reality, Mint was slightly unnerved. Only slightly-at least these corpses weren't beckoning her to take a leap into the Reverse with them. Still, there was a rather unsettling amount of lightning being drawn to this joint, so of course Mint delved into the dark dungeon below. Finding the place to be flooded somewhat, and noting the sparks of electrodes hooked up to a table whose occupant clearly got away, and good for them about it, Mint simply elected to grab their Rare Candy quickly and get out. No need to be electrocuted tonight.

Stampastampastampstampa...

"Well, someone seems eager..."

The slightly cynical hum of the Dusknoir's telepathic communications rang through nothing in particular as Lapis watched the rapidly moving feet of her companion thunder across the path haphazardly, and realised then why she was tasked with keeping an eye on him. Or rather, why Alex had gave the overzealous and extremely excitable Garchomp permission to go visiting some base for goodies. With others coming to the Spire and the mineshaft maze erected around the grounds, she was certain that if he got too excited he may very well bring the Spire tumbling to the ground in his fervour, and in hoisting him to the furthest away base gave them a greater chance of avoiding damage to property and people.

That being said, the fortress ahead looming over definitely looked as though it belonged in a horror set, never mind the human skulls that littered the area as torches. One skull in particular caught her eye, as she studied it with some interest. A goofy grunt behind her broke her concentration, and turning to the snout of the dragon she gave the slightest impression of a smile.

"Yes...certainly someone I knew. Good couple hundred years or so they popped their clogs. Shall we?"

Continuing into the fort, the vision of a decaying ruin was certainly backed up by some clever props, and the sparking water beneath seemed to be something of a giveaway that the set aimed at was of a certain horror movie involving a scientist trying to raise things from the dead. As if those silly mortals knew what the land of the dead was like...

A voice echoed from somewhere, and if Lapis's face was capable of dropping in impending depression, it would as the Garchomp literally began to vibrate on the spot at the sight of plump, juicy, shiny red apples. Tongue lolled around and salivation intensified as the ghost looked at the sparking electrodes and decided that being potentially zapped in the water wasn't her forte. Giving a snap of her fingers, she looked around for the source of the voice, shrugging as she pointed to her belly and lack of chomping mouth before readying herself for some potential entertainment. Between the unknown monsters hidden within the deep and the crunching, fiery fangs of a hyperactive pseudo-legendary, she was certain that someone was leaving here with a bruised ego, and the best part was that she wasn't sure who it would be.

Many had decided to travel down the path of the doomed, all in pursuit of the sweet succulent candy that is so often referred to as the lifeblood of Fizzytopia. A stranger with no name (???) seemed to enjoy the sight of the mounted heads, her Inkay was a touch more wary. Even the sight of the operating table was a delight to the sadistic traveller, who wades through the water to strap herself onto the table.

A Fizzytopian veteran, Keith, soon walked the path as well, wise cracking sidekick by his side as always. However he was closer than usual, much to his own displeasure the Meowth had been forced into a Weezing costume! As the pair enter the fort, only the thought of delicious candy keeps the Meowth from breaking the costume and fleeing with his tail between his legs, there was no way he was going anywhere near the water!

Yet another Fizzytopian veteran soon appeared from the shadows, Jess was accompanied by a small clutch of Pokemon. Most notable among them was the startled Ponyta, who was far from eager to enter the stone structure. It got to the point that she had to recall the flaming pony into her Pokeball, but thankfully the trainer was prepared with a handy Ampharos shaped flashlight. Descending into the flooded basement, the Ponyta soon reappeared, drawn from her ball by the familiar scent of apples. Stomping on the cobblestone floor, she lunges at the nearest apple, sinking her teeth into its soft juicy flesh. It seems her natural passion for the fruit made her the perfect participant!

Hugo slowly made his way along the path, somewhat disturbed by his companions fondness for the head lanterns. The Weavile was even more impressed by the multitude of dead bodies that filled the forts halls, inspiring him to pull a prank on his disgruntled trainer. The pair descend into the dungeon, there was no candy in sight, when would they get what they came for?

The hard to impress Chroma seemed to assume that the whole display was faux, but such an assumption can often be too hasty. Not daring enough to pluck an apple from the water, she looks around for the Rare Candy she had been promised. It's all for nothing however, as just like everyone else, she is unable to find them. There was a crowd growing in the dungeon.

A more familiar face in the valley, Hyrem walks the path accompanied by a family of Pokemon. Strange that anyone would choose this as a destination for a family outing, but the young Torchic had nothing to worry about with his mother and father watching out for him. Rengar hissed at Hyrem for even thinking he'd want to get his coat all wet, Vi however was willing to compete alongside her trainer. Together you wade out into the water, thanking the gods that the water seems void of electricity. You attempt to snag an apple with your teeth, but alas they prove to be slippery little buggers! Vi is more successful however and after one failed attempt, manages to pluck an apple from the water. Eventually you succeed in sinking your teeth into the juicy fruit, pulling your head out of the water you look around for your reward but find yourself in the same position as everyone else.

Another stranger made her way along the path, a lone Skitty separated from her trainer. Although scared and unsure, she follows the path into the fort, only to be spooked as lightning strikes the structure. She was soon reunited with her trainer, it seemed Ariane had been here all along! The pair then made their way into the dungeon, nudging past the gathering crowd they make their way into the water in pursuit of the apples. Mitzi leaps from the water onto Ariane's back as something brushes past her. They weren't alone in the water. The Skitty is soon coaxed back into the water and soon claims an apple alongside her trainer. Now they just had to wait for their reward, perhaps out of the water?

A curious and brazen youngling is the next to buzz along the path, his companions a trio of young Pokemon, two of which are just as enthusiastic as their trainer. The Rowlet perched on the boys shoulder was perhaps the wisest of the four of them, who remained alert as the Elekid led them into the dungeon. There were plenty of others already present but they would be the most successful! Tama throws off his jacket and dives into the water alongside his trusty Totodile, while his Rowlet flutters above, watching for any trick business. The Totodile wastes no time claiming an apple, but with his attention on the fruit he fails to notice the shadow approaching under the water. Thankfully the Rowlet does and the shadow moves away, it would wait for an easier opportunity. Tama eventually sinks his teeth into an apple of his own and emerges from the water in search of his reward....

A pair of young trainers made their way down the path, sent by their mentor to participate in the event and claim the rewards in his name. Not only did they sport costumes, but so did the Pokemon they had been lent, the Totodile looking more like a Krookodile and the Wishiwashi that was meant to be some sort of movie reference. The two water Pokemon took turns to head into the water, the Totodile psyching itself up with a Dragon Dance before rushing from apple to apple, crunching down on fruits in quick succession. However he soon made a mistake, biting down only to be met with a powerful electric shock. Pulling his head out of the water, he pulls the strange orange fish with him. The three-eyed Chinchou sticks a tongue out at the Totodile before sinking back into the water. The now schooling Wishiwashi quickly snaps up a number of apples, more than the one that is required. With their task complete, the twins, Rain and Rina, look around for their rewards, but like everyone else they are left to wait.

Melissa was certainly shaken by the gruesome display of skeletal remains, so much so that she required the support of multiple Pokemon. While three stayed close to her side, another took delight in searching the corpses for hidden treasures, but the Sableye was saddened to find that these victims had already been picked clean. After a quick word to the Dark type, Melissa resolves to claim the candy and leave as soon as possible, but it seems there is a bit of a line.

Moving quickly, Mint was another who revolved to quickly claim a candy and get out. What was it about a bunch of skeletons that made people uneasy? It wasn't like they were moving..... Pushing through the horde of trainers and Pokemon, Mint was frustrated to find that the candy wasn't simply waiting for her. Surely they would get served soon!

Alex had sent a pair of Pokemon in his stead, he was too busy with the event at his own base to attend others. The Garchomp seemed rather eager to enter the fort, the Dusknoir by his side was doing her best to keep the dragon in line. As they made their way into the dungeon, the Garchomp quickly leapt into the water and began rooting around for apples. Thinking he has spotted a juicy one, he bites into it with fiery fangs, only to get a shout in return.

"Ahh you bit me!" In the jaws of the Garchomp is a Pyukumuku, a very strange looking Pyukumuku.

Suddenly the lights flicker on, illuminating the dungeon for everyone to see. Floating near the roof on the far side of the room is a Magneton, a human body seemingly attached to it....

"Oh jeez Rick, I told you it was a bad idea to turn yourself into a Pyukumuku and hide in the water." The Magneton seems to speak somehow, how it is accomplishing this is unclear.

"Oh really Magnemorty, you think me turning myself into a Pyukumuku is a bad idea? Like getting me to make you a human body like some bullshit, rip off Frankenstein's monster was a good idea?" The Pyukumuku in the Garchomp's jaws shouts back at the Magneton, burping and slurping as he does so.

"Aww come on Rick, that's unfair, you know last year's Morty costume just wasn't good enough, that's why we needed Magnemorty 2.0! I mean, why a Pyukumuku? If you could turn yourself into a Pokemon, why not something cool like a Pikachu?"

"Pikachu Morty? Pikachu?! Only someone as lame as you would suggest Pikachu. I'm not just a Pyukumuku, I'm Pyukumuku Rick!"

"Oh gosh Rick, I just mean, I don't think they get it? Why go through all this just to make a Rick and Morty reference?"

"Because that's what Halloween is about Magnemorty, that's what we do!"

The pair of arguing people/pokemon hybrids are interrupted as a rather fed up looking woman enters the dungeon. "I'm sorry everyone, I told Jayson this was a stupid idea. If you'll all join me in the great hall I'll present you with your rewards and you can be on your way."

"Guess we killed all those people for nothing hey Rick?"

"Shut up Magnemorty, just shut up."

Chroma had gone into the fortress feeling her normal, confident self, and left feeling more like a lanky psyduck. What, in Giratina's befouled name, was the point of any of that? Nothing about it made sense, and certainly didn't pay off the build up she had been forced endure just for a Rare Candy!

*Chroma earned a Rare Candy!*
