Yeah, my friend had the same problem. He can't get into BB after seeing that episode but he just doesn't understand how fucking amazing the storyline becomes and how perplexing the characters get!

Completed Season 4. The last 10 seconds of the last episode made up for the rest of the season (I thought Season 3 was better until then). Can't wait to start Season 5.

I don't know. Season 3 definitely had it's highlights, but I liked Season 4 a lot more.

Season 3
Spoiler: show
The only really good moments were when Hank took out the two Mexican hitmen and following that when Jessie kills the two drug dealers who killed Combo, leading to the eventual death of Gale to maintain meth production by Walt and Jesse. That's all a great season worth of stuff, but it also had that terrible episode with the fly they couldn't kill...

Season 4
Spoiler: show
Meanwhile, season 4 I felt was pretty consistently strong. Gus killed his own man to prove to Walt and Jesse he wasn't trying to replace them, then slowly had Mike turn Jesse away from Walt. I liked those moments where Jesse and Mike bonded and Jesse gained some confidence. Mike was also a pretty awesome character overall and one of my favorite because of this season. It also put more emphasis on Walt's paranoia and mental breakdown, eventually leading Jesse to break away from Walt and replace him at the lab.

Then we see Walt at his lowest point. His son having to find his father in a bloody mess on Junior's birthday. This is then followed up with the whole cartel dispute as well as more information on Gus' past and his own history with brilliant crystal meth cooks as well as how the whole Los Pollos Hermanos name came from. Then Gus takes out the cartel and on what looks like a huge victory, Walt outplays him. Walt gets Jesse back on his side and takes out Gus with a friggin bomb! A bomb hooked up to a crippled old man's wheelchair. A crippled old man who hates Walt, but hates Gus even more!

It really felt like Walt grew the most in this season. Sure he was pretty much a criminal by the end of season 4, but the whole battle for Jesse's loyalty and the entire takedown of Gus really turned Walt from just a criminal to a mastermind.

That's how I generally feel about it.

You make a good point. In Season 4

Spoiler: show
Walt goes from a criminal to a mastermind, like you said

but in Season 3

Spoiler: show
I feel Walt goes from a desperate man to a criminal. By then I realized that if he cares about something enough, he'll kill people for it, including a man who didn't deserve it
.

Both strong seasons, though. I'd say it's a tie, personally.

Come back and read this in 8 episodes:

Spoiler: show
And by the time Season 5 Part 1 wraps up you'll notice that Walt is too far gone to care about anything anymore. He is a crime lord now and sits on a throne of money. And now he is overcome with greed and power.

One question though about something I thought about the other day, dont read yet Tdos:

Spoiler: show
Did Walt ever use the gun he bought? For anything? If not, then we can almost definitely assume it will play a key role soon. Perhaps he shoots Hank?

@ deoxys

Spoiler: show
No, he hasn't. In almost every situation where he does shoot a gun, it's a gun he finds in the area.

@TDos

I was going to agree about some of what you said about Season 3, but I thought about it some more and...

Spoiler: show
While Walt definitely gets a bit darker in season 3, I think the moment he started being a criminal was back in season 2 when he went to the home repair store and told that junkie and his boss to "Stay out of my territory!"

At least to me, at this point, he stopped being a man who needed money and started establishing his empire. Granted, he started very small, but he clearly was set on being a criminal at this point in my eyes. Yes, Walt was still a bumbling fool, but this was the day he became a criminal in my eyes.

@deo

ROFL.

It started last July, then we have to wait another year for the second half, that's pretty crazy. I was expecting it to start around April or at latest, May. Waiting a whole year for another half is pretty much like another season.

First thing I did after finishing was read past spoilers.

Spoiler: show
I'm real interested in how Hank will handle the situation. Will he just confront Walt or try to be careful about it?

I'm also not convinced Walt actually stopped cooking meth. Part of me wants to believe it though, because, even though he's the bad guy, I want things to work out for him. Similarly, I want things to go well for Hank, but things can't go well for both of them. Sigh, I'm so conflicted.

I just rewatched the first episode of season 5 on Netflix, but the pre-intro scene looked different. Not sure since it's been a year, but can someone double check it?

I just watched the first 5 minutes and everything looks as I remember it. What do you think is different?

Okay, it's huge spoilers so it's in the spoiler box.

Spoiler: show
IIRC, the scene had Walt freaking out and trying to call Skylar or something. He then pops open the trunk which has the big gun and a sack of cash.

The one I saw on Netflix had him sitting in the diner calmly buying a new car with the big gun with a sack of cash he has.

Maybe it was a different episode?

I think you might be mixed up.

Spoiler: show
The only time I remember Walter freaking out and calling Skylar was after Gus kidnapped him and told him that he was going to murder his family. The thing you just saw was also what I saw both an hour ago and several months ago.
