Mega Pokemon
I can't help but feel that this is a topic warranting its own thread, even though the scope of the discussion is effectively limited.
Here are some questions that might make good discussion topics: ~Should all Mega Pokemon be disallowed in competitive battling on an opt-in matchmaking basis? ~Which Mega Pokemon are "OK" from a competitive standpoint? Most people seem to agree that Mega Mawile is fairly balanced, but Mega Blaziken is impossibly strong. (it might be helpful to rank them from weakest to strongest in your personal opinion) ~As you viewed the Mega Pokemon lineup, was there a creature conspicuously missing? A surprising addition? ~Do you enjoy the Mega Evolution process? If you could fix it and rebalance it, or change certain things about it, like fixing the horrifically high BSTs of certain Megas, would you come to like the idea if you didn't already? (The purpose of this question to see if it's the end result of overpowered Pokemon that's got people up Keep in mind that Mega Evolutions seem to be of two types: those that were already strong and are wildly overpowered now and those that were in a state of mediocrity and are now viable and even good choices for competitive battling. It's alright to suggest Mega Arceus: I guarantee you that every 12 year old has already thought of it. THAT SAID: Spoiler: show So far, for me, Mega Medicham is the single most frightening thing ever. The base stats weren't upgraded much (to my chagrin, they ignored his Attack stat, so no Pure Power hilarity here) and the design looks like a floppy dildo genie crossed with Mr. Popo. They ruined Medicham. /vitriol I'll probably get used to it in time, but...really. Still the base 60 Attack. ARE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO MEGA BLAZIKEN? DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT IT'S "MEGA" MEDICHAM, NOT "WIMP" MEDICHAM"? For serious. That said, the speed increase is a strong increase that bumps him into viability. I'm just dissatisfied that so little was actually changed on a Pokemon that greatly desires massive improvement statwise. Also, WHERE IS MY MEGA SHUCKLE? Does this mean that a Shuckle evolution is around the corner somewhere?

Mega Pokémon are bad and anyone who thinks any of them were a remotely good idea should feel bad.

Megacham has base 100 Attack AND base 100 Speed.
I don't think they need Trick Room. ;^_^ Also, to correct an error in the first post: Megaing doesn't take a turn. You can still use an attack on the turn you Mega. That said, you cannot Mega and switch/use an item in the same turn. Additionally, speed tier changes aren't applied until the turn after the Megaing takes place. Abilities take effect immediately after the change, though. Megaing seems to take place as the very first 'turn action' (that is, takes place after switching and before any attacks. Will have to check if Megaing or item use occurs first). Need to test if being Embargoed/Magic Roomed (say, on the switch-in) prevents Megaing. On the whole I've found Megas to be surprisingly less OP than I expected. They're weaker than their normal self holding any offense-boosting item, thus making the main draw the boost in speed and defense. The fact that you can choose when to do the switch makes for some interesting maneuvers, too- For example, 'chomp loses speed but gains bulk and power, thus meaning that you should Mega him after you've eliminated the foe's faster threats, changing him from a fast attacker into a wallbreaker. Megabsol is adorable. [/unpopular opinion] |

The only Mega Pokemon that I have used lately are Mega Lucario and Mega Gyarados. Both have their merits over their non-Mega forms(Lucario sits at a smexy 112 Speed and has Adaptability, while Mega Gyarados has much improved bulk and loses his weakness to Stealth Rock, as well as being able to smash through Gastrodon.)
Megas on a whole seem to be, on a whole, fulfilling either different niches from their non-megas forms, or completely outclass their non-mega forms. Mega Alakazam is the exception though, I've used it briefly and found it to be terrible.

Huh must have misread then. Carry on! Also yeah I find that Megas often take the Pokemon and give them another potential mode of attack instead of just taking the old Pokémon and making it better (though in the case of Mawile, Banette and Gardevoir it really is just a boost). Garchomp and T-Tar are definitely the best examples. MegaHeracross is maybe a less obvious example, since Guts Heracross is still pretty viable and is a different kind of Sweeper than MegaCross is. |

Has anyone found attacks for MegaCross to use with Skill Link?
Aside from, like, Fury Attack. |

It gets Arm Thrust, Bullet Seed, and Rock Blast according to Smogon.

It's not like GF hasn't given these moves to other Pokemon where it made no sense.

True, though along with Aura Sphere Squirtle it seems a lot like shoehorning.

I love you sometimes, 'Cept.
The idea of MEGASGolurk is pretty awesome. One thing is for certain, Megas have changed the game forever. For good or for bad, it's a brave new world with them. |

Personally, I'm not going to complain if it means that more mons get more moves they can make good use of with their abilities and whatnot.

I don't know, I'd say Bullet Seed makes the most sense.
Meanwhile Arm Thrust is open-palm. Does Heracross even have palms? |

Another Mega slightly worth mentioning and Kanghaskan. With Parental Bond, it hits twice at what I think is full power for both. I don't know why people don't use things like Comet Punch on it. You're guaranteed 4 hits, most likely 5 or more, with the possibility of 10.
