Anime Premises in 50 Words or Less!

Sadly, there are so many animes these days and most people have such short attention spans that you're not very likely to grab 'em and get 'em to watch a show unless you keep it really short and interesting! This thread is a challenge to you, the members, to come up with taglines for your favorite animes that are 50 words or less!

I will try to keep a running list of taglines in the post below.

List of Anime Premises, Taglines Made By the Community

Chobits: (romantic comedy) a farm boy in the big city finds an abandoned computer in the trash and takes it home. In his world, computers are highly-advanced and are produced in the human likeness. But the computer he finds is no ordinary computer ...

Death Note: A top-of-the-class high school student finds a mysterious notebook, and discovers that whoever's name is written in it will die. With the Death Note, he seeks to eradicate crime from the world - but at what price?

Elfen Lied: (drama, romance, sci-fi) "What would you do if the woman you loved murdered everyone else dear to you?" A young man who suffered a traumatic incident as a child now finds himself with only fragmentary memories of his childhood. He encounters another lost soul who, like himself, has lost her memories: but in her case, because of a sniper's bullet straight to the head ...

K-ON!: (comedy, slice-of-life, cute) Four girls aim to become the best rock band Japan has ever known. And it all starts in a high school music club.

Love Hina: (comedy, romance, harem) a young man reapplies to the prestigious Tokyo University despite multiple rejection letters. He is driven by a childhood promise made to the love of his life. The problem is ... he hasn't seen her since they were kids. He doesn't even remember her name ...

Minami-ke: (comedy, slice of life, cute) Follow the lives of the three orphan sisters of the Minami family: Haruka, Kana, and Chiaki. This summary may sound boring but the stories you'll see are anything but.

Monster: "Maybe some lives aren't worth saving ..."

Musashi: "IN A WORLD ... GONE MAD. One man ... can ... and will ... FIGHT. BACK."

Nyan-Koi: (comedy, romance, harem) A young man deathly allergic to cats finds himself able to psychically communicate with cats after knocking over a Buddhist statue. He has to grant 100 cats' wishes before he is transformed into a cat himself. And yet the girl he's in love with? She loooooooooooves cats!

One Piece: "It's not the goal, but the journey that counts. You can't have an adventure without friends to enjoy it with." Monkey D. Luffy leaves his island home with the intent of being a pirate, but has only a vague idea of what pirates do. He goes on numerous maritime adventures, making friends and gaining infamy, and will soon leave his mark on the world.

Paranoia Agent: "Sometimes, a little assault solves everything." The enigmatic Shonen Bat has become the obsession of Tokyo - a shadowy, bat-wielding boy reportedly responsible for a rash of attacks. With his victims sharing one thing, overwhelming crisis, the question isn't who he is, but if he exists at all.

Planetes: (drama) It is the year 20xx. The aggregate of all of mankind's launches into and collisions within outer space has generated a large amount of debris orbiting the Earth at high velocities. These debris can destroy space shuttles and jeopardize the lives of passengers onboard. As a result, the era of the space garbageman is born.

Rozen Maiden: (drama, comedy) "Pinocchio meets Mortal Kombat." A dollmaker crafts seven dolls in an attempt to create "Alice," a living girl. Having failed, he entrusts the magic dolls with a new task: fight amongst yourselves until only one remains. To the victor, life as a human child. To the losers, death and decay as broken dolls.

Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei: "Society is so messed up that killing yourself is often the best solution." The teacher, Nozomu Itoshiki, teaches his students what's really important, the shortcomings of society.

Sexy Commando Gaiden: "When fighting a fierce opponent, or even a weakling, it's best to fight them when they're distracted." A normal kid enters high school with an admiral goal of making 50 friends. However, he ends up getting caught up in a club of weirdos, destroying any hope for a normal high school life.z

Sousei no Aquarion: "If you don't settle your problems now, you'll have to deal with them when you come back." Humanity is locked in a 12,000 year old battle with the Shadow Angels, a technologically superior race of winged humanoids who treat humans like cattle. Apollo, the reincarnation of a Shadow Angel who aided humanity, is reunited with Sylvia, the reincarnation of his former love. But they hate each other...

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu: (comedy, sci-fi) Haruhi has no interest in normal human beings. She dreams of meeting and having adventures with aliens, time travelers, espers, and sliders. Little does she realize that she's already met them! And that they must keep their identities a secret from her -- or risk triggering the end of the world.

ToraDora: (romance, comedy) "The Chinese Zodiac says certain couples just aren't meant to be. Then again, astrology is bogus." A kind, quirky teen is misunderstood because of his fierce-looking eyes. He teams up with the school delinquent, a tiny girl with a giant attitude problem, in order to try and hook one another up with their respective crushes.

These sound like the bumps for the "next season anime" posters, Talon. Have you seen those?

I'll aim for parsimony and provide an actual short summary.

One Piece - It's not the goal, but the journey that counts. You can't have an adventure without friends to enjoy it with.

Monkey D. Luffy leaves his island home with the intent of being a pirate, but has only a vague idea of what pirates do. He goes on numerous maritime adventures, making friends and gaining infamy, and will soon leave his mark on the world.

Sousei no Aquarion - If you don't settle your problems now, you'll have to deal with them when you come back.

Humanity is locked in a 12,000 year old battle with the Shadow Angels, a technologically superior race of winged humanoids who treat humans like cattle. Apollo, the reincarnation of a Shadow Angel who aided humanity, is reunited with Sylvia, the reincarnation of his former love. But they hate each other...

With that, I've edited the second post in this thread for the very first time and listed our anime premises and taglines in alphabetical order. Taglines have been placed in italics with quotation marks, while premises follow these and are in normal font face. I have preserved every bit of formatting as you submitted except for paragraph breaks, and I will continue to do that except for: paragraph breaks, font color changes, font size changes, or the provision of embedded image files. (Hyperlinks are okay.)

With the inclusion of taglines, it seems as though many of your submissions go well over the 50-word limit. In the spirit of being laid back and fostering interest in this casual enterprise, I'll go ahead and say that you're allowed a 20-word tagline and a 50-word premise. No more!

Now, as for some more thoughts from me ...

================================================== =

Elfen Lied: (drama, romance, sci-fi) "What would you do if the woman you loved murdered everyone else dear to you?" A young man who suffered a traumatic incident as a child now finds himself with only fragmentary memories of his childhood. I haven't decided yet how to deal with multiple submissions for the same show. On the one hand, I'd like the 2nd post in this thread to only have one entry per program. On the other hand, I would like for everyone to be able to submit his or her own summaries for any and all programs he or she wishes to.

For now, do not refrain from submitting a summary or a tagline for a show which has already received one. However, I may not edit it into the 2nd post just yet. I need to figure out what the best course of action there is.
Spoiler: show
Should I introduce a spoiler tag prefaced with the words "For other users' summaries, click here:" ? Should I delete inferior summaries for superior ones -- and if so, who gets to decide what's superior and what's inferior? Should it be first come first serve after all? Should I create an uber-wall of text and just post all summaries at the same (parent) level?

I'm not very good at this, so I won't do much.

Sayonara Zesubou Sensei: Society is so messed up that killing yourself is often the best solution.

The teacher, Nozomu Itoshiki, teaches his students what's really important, the shortcomings of society.

Sexy Commando Gaiden: When fighting a fierce opponent, or even a weakling, it's best to fight them when they're distracted.
