I've never played it. It's really weird, why haven't I?

One week in and the Kickstarter has raised $2.4 million. Clearly, people hunger for a second Planescape game. Of note, seven people have pledged the most expensive pledge ($10,000), two have done the next one down ($5,000), and three have done the one after that ($2,000). So there are at least twelve people on this planet who would literally spend thousands to get the unofficial sequel to Planescape: Torment.

My error. I thought Planescape: Torment was the second game in the series and that there was a first one called simply Planescape. Apparently I remembered wrong. Whoops. Will edit.

Planescape is the setting. Like Forgotten Realms or Eberron. Even though no one calls it Forgotten Realms: Baldur's Gate or Forgotten Realms: Neverwinter Nights or Eberron: Dragonshard. I think it was because the name "Torment" might have not been as attractive as Planescape: Torment.

Relatedly, Project Eternity - a similarly exciting 2014 release with some of the same staff as Planescape: Torment (particularly Chris Avellone, lead designer from the original Torment and Kotor 2).
I am what's known as "quite excited" about these two games.

There is no BG Kickstarter. WotC dislikes the idea of using Kickstarters for a D&D title since the amount people donate will affect their development. WotC likes total control over development of their universes and characters.
Torment: Tides of Numenera isn't set in the D&D Planescape setting, but in the Numenera setting for a different RPG and not owned by WotC. |
