Loch Bygone Raid Battle 15: vs. Klang!

Raid Boss Klang
★★★

Health gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: None.

Raid Challengers

Missingno. Master, Mienfoo: 400 HP
Slash, Grapploct: 400 HP {Slice of Pizza (heals 1/16th of damage dealt, and 1/16th of HP at end of round)}
Connor, Salandit: 400 HP
CrazyCreeperKid, Torracat: 400 HP

As the raiders arrive on the scene, they happen upon the offending Mamoswine, its advances being held at bay by the gym's own group, with a localised snowstorm courtesy of Mistilteinn away from their own group while the Swampert and Mawile play muscle backed up by a Gardevoir. A grinding sound however reminds the group that they have their own troublemaker to deal with as the whirling gears of the Klang grab their attention, as Salandit feels the surge of energy from the power spot. Torracat steps onto the field, yet its intimidation attempts fall flat as it bounces off the glisteningly clear body of the raid boss.

Dynamax Initiative: Connor, Salandit.

  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Monday, 13th December to place your order.

Ah, Loch Bygone Pokémon Gym. A location that held some... rather significant memories for the Masterses. Not necessarily the best of ones, either. True enough, this was where Keith caught his, ah, "Zangoose", and was the site of many a successful raid battle for both Keith and his wife. But on the other hand, this was also where the remains of the first Gym Leader were found, a man Keith had been friends with, and was devastated to learn had died. And although Willa hadn't known Alex for as long, she had her own fairly traumatic memory associated with this Gym, which accounted for why she had been steadfastly refusing to have her Flapple use Gravity anymore, even if doing so would work to her advantage in battle. And Maribel had been present for much of this herself, even if she hadn't met Alex at all, and hadn't personally given the command that led to the Gravity Incident, but these events still stuck in her mind as she approached the Gym.

Now, however, was not the time to get stuck wallowing in these memories- now was the time to freaking fight! Indeed, a massive Klang hovered before them, minigears rotating with loud metallic thuds as the teeth interlocked. Maribel took out her Rotom Phone and aimed it at the adversary. "OK, Rotom- who's that Pokémon?" she asked.

"Klang, the Gear Pokémon. A Steel-type, and the evolved form of Klink," said Rotom. "Klang launches minigears to attack, but if a launched minigear doesn't return, it dies. Wow. Really? I mean... cleanest fix is to not friggin' fire the minigears, then. Or what, are they supposed to return like boomerangs? Or is it some sort of magnetic mumbo-jumbo?"

As Rotom went on like this, pondering the logistics of Klang's means of attack, Mienfoo stepped forward, eyeing the Klang warily, sizing it up. "Foo," she murmured.

"Scrrrrafty!" Bart declared, the Scrafty stepping up alongside his girlfriend and flashing a confident grin at her.

Mienfoo looked unimpressed, shaking her head. "Mien foo," she stated, pointing back over to the Masterses.

Bart raised an eyebrow. "Scrafty scraft?" he asked incredulously. "Scraft Scrafty Scrafty scraft!" he exclaimed, gesturing to both himself and Mienfoo, and then to Klang.

Meinfoo exhaled. "...foo foo, Mienfoo, foo," she insisted calmly, continuing to point Bart towards the Masterses.

"...Scrafty," Bart mumbled dejectedly, beginning to walk back towards them.

After a moment's consideration, however, Mienfoo turned back to Bart. "...foo," she said.

"Scraft?" Bart responded.

Mienfoo said nothing more. She calmly walked up to Bart, before suddenly grabbing him, pulling him in close, and kissing him, an action Bart was quick and eager to reciprocate. And once they broke apart, Mienfoo gave him a small smile and a wink, before turning and walking towards Klang. And Bart, still rather dazed from the sudden kiss, grinning stupidly, made his way back over to Keith.

"Heheh," Keith chuckled. "She sure told you, didn't she, Bart?"

"Scraaaaft," Bart mumbled, still somewhat out of it.

"...whatever works, I suppose," Willa shrugged, looking mildly amused at the whole thing. "All right, then- Mienfoo, ready?" she called to the Martial Arts Pokémon.

"Foo," nodded Mienfoo.

Willa gestured towards Klang. "Then start with Fire Spin!" she commanded.

OOC: Mienfoo used Fire Spin (35 BP; binds opponent).

Raid Boss Klang

Health gauge: 80%

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Shift Gear (- BP)

Klang raised its attack and speed!

Attack 2: Max Knuckle (70 BP)

Slash, Grapploct: 316 HP
Klang's attack rose!

Raid Challengers

Connor, Salandit: 400 HP
CrazyCreeperKid, Torracat: 400 HP

The group begins their assault by utilising preparations, with the Salandit spitting a noxious and corrosive glob of acid that seeps into the gear's system, as the metallic pokemon shudders at the alien sensation of poisoning, before Mienfoo gives it a familiar feeling of singing heat all around with a Fire Spin. Grapploct and Torracat follow suit with a two pronged assault, a Rock Smash followed by an Ember's Resonance special move landing two solid blows on the raid boss. Klang whirrs its gears and considers their tactics before deciding to up the danger, shifting its gears into overdrive in order to deal with the rust slowly encroaching in its form and amplifying its physical strength, before slapping the octopus with a Max Knuckle, the relatively low power of the move serving to boost its strength further, yet as the fighting type chews on their pizza, a surge of dynamax energy surrounds them from the lingering impact crater around it.

Dynamax Initiative: Slash, Grapploct.

Mienfoo was off to a solid start- though the attack itself hadn't done too much in the way of damage, it nevertheless had Klang trapped in a fiery vortex that was continuing to damage it over time, and that, they all knew, would add up pretty significantly. Not only that, the Salandit that had been brought had made full use of its special Corrosion Ability, and did something that few other Pokémon could claim to have done- badly poisoned a Klang. Keith grinned, seeing this in action- Poison-types really were remarkable, weren't they?

Alas, not all went so smoothly, for Klang had to start attacking at some point, and so it did, first seeming to spin its gears all the faster, generating power. This prompted Willa to consult her Pokédex for more information.

"Klang's special attack- Shift Gear," droned the device. "By adjusting its minigears and spinning them at great speeds, Klang increases its own Speed and Attack power."

"Ooh," Maribel murmured. "That's a tricky move."

"For sure, sweetie," Keith agreed. "And now- oooh," he winced, and then came a giant fist, slamming into the Grapploct. Mercifully, the Fighting-type didn't seem too badly hurt by this, but Willa was more concerned with how this was affecting Klang itself- indeed, the Max Knuckle had surely further boosted the Steel-type's Attack.

"And that Klang has Clear Body, right?" Maribel added. "So there's no way to get rid of the boosts to its Attack."

"Right you are, sweetie," Willa murmured.

"Scraftyyyy," Bart murmured, frowning at the Klang. He looked on at Mienfoo, however, and noticed that the Fighting-type did not look too worried. That's not to say that she didn't realize how much Klang had just powered itself up, of course- Mienfoo naturally noticed all of that. But she was not allowing herself to panic in the face of such tactics, not when they still had so much they could do themselves. And right now, she had ample opportunity to show that she was more than just a flashy Fire Spin, and as she looked back at Willa, the look the Martial Arts Pokémon got in return confirmed that the Kalosian Ace Trainer shared this sentiment, and the two nodded simultaneously.

"Mienfoo is not worried, and thus, neither am I," Willa stated to her family. "I believe in Mienfoo."

"Scraf! Scraft Scrafty scraft!" Bart grinned, making a fist and punching it into his other hand.

"Yeah, Mienfoo, you got this!" Maribel cheered.

"Go get 'em, Mienfoo!" Keith added.

Mienfoo took a deep breath. "Foo," she exhaled, allowing herself a small smile as she heard the support pouring in- focused though she was, she most certainly appreciated it, and with another small nod, attempted to convey this to the others.

Willa gestured forward. "Time to show them!" she declared. "Mienfoo! Force Palm!" she commanded.

"Foo!" Mienfoo responded, dashing forward, charging up potent energy in one of her front paws, energy that Klang was about to feel, and very strongly, whether it wanted to or not.

OOC: Mienfoo used Force Palm (60 BP).

With the raid boss a bit battered but brimming with energy, the raiders waste no time pressing the assault and a single flamethrower is all it takes to raise shields, which immediately shatter to the incoming assault. Left vulnerable by the barriers sudden downfall, the mechanical pokemon whirrs angrily, readying itself for righteous vengeance. Fuelled by its intensifying poison, the steel type grinds into Torracat with an amplified Facade, dealing a significantly hefty blow to the fire type before dropping a massive thunderous blast upon Mienfoo, also toppling it past the halfway mark in a singular strike, as it seems the play of the game is all out offensive, the electrical terrain springing up and causing the feet of all to tingle as the dynamax energy flows around the Mienfoo.

AND THEN COMES A GIANT FIST

Things were going much smoother than anyone had anticipated- their latest onslaught hadn't just forced Klang to put up a shield, it promptly shattered it into pieces. And Klang was attacking now- a forceful Facade, putting its poisoning to actual good ude against the Torracat, and then Mienfoo was lit up like a Christmas tree by the sizzling Max Lightning Klang summoned. And although this caused an Electric Terrain to spread across the entire lake bed, it did not get the better of Mienfoo- the Martial Arts Pokémon remained standing steadily, glaring up at the Klang.

"Keith!" Willa murmured, looking at her wrist. Keith followed her gaze and saw immediately what this was about- traces of red energy swirled around the Dynamax Band she wore on her wrist, the Wishing Star set into it pulsing with power.

"Ooh," Keith murmured.

"Mom, are you gonna Dynamax Mienfoo?" Maribel asked.

"Hm," Willa murmured, considering this as she looked back over at Klang. "We already burned through its first shield. I would think this to be prudent timing... Mienfoo!" she called, holding up her Dynamax Band. "What do you say?"

Mienfoo said nothing initially, turning back to look at what Willa was talking about. Once she registered that this meant Dynamaxing, her eyebrows flew up. "Foo..." she considered, falling silent for a moment, before finally giving a smile and a nod.

Willa returned the smile and nod with those of her own, before holding out the Ultra Ball, withdrawing Mienfoo. "The strange energy that courses through us both," Willa began, holding out the ball.

"Let us embrace it," Keith stated, placing a hand on the ball.

"Harness it!" Maribel chimed in, likewise putting her own hand on the ball.

"Use it to draw out our true power!" the family declared as one. And as they spoke, the ball they were all holding onto grew in size and changed in appearance, until it looked like a Premier Ball the size of an Electrode.

"Get set, now, Mienfoo," Willa stated with a small smirk. "Ready..."

"...let's DYNAMAX!!!" the three Masterses exclaimed as one, heaving the ball into the air behind them. And before it could begin to descend, the gigantic ball burst open, releasing Mienfoo as she began to grow... and grow... and GROW!

"FOO!" Mienfoo declared thunderously. Again she fixed her glare on Klang, but now the two were much more even in terms of size. The Fighting-type struck a graceful battle pose, ready for action.

Bart was in awe. Appearances be damned, he allowed himself to stare unblinkingly up at his gigantic girlfriend, mouth agape. "Scraaaaft," he murmured.

As humorous as the Scrafty's reaction was, the Masterses could not dwell on it, not right now. The three of them huddled together, whispering among themselves for a few seconds, before facing Klang once more. "USE! MAX!! KNUCKLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!!!" they called out in unison.

"FOO!" Mienfoo responded with a short, simple cry that nevertheless shook the ground on which they stood. She made a punching motion, and then comes a giant fist out of the sky, not unlike the one Klang had unleashed upon Grapploct earlier, except this one was headed for Klang itself.

OOC: Mienfoo Dynamaxed and used Max Knuckle (80 BP; Base move is Force Palm (60BP)).

Raid Boss Klang
★★★

Health gauge: 39%
Shields Up: 2
Status: Att +2, S. Def -1, Badly Poisoned
KO Count: 2

Trainer Recovery Summary

Slash, Grapploct: Slice of Pizza

Slash, Grapploct: 367 HP

Raid Boss Attack Summary

Attack 1: Steel Roller (130 BP)

CrazyCreeperKid, Torracat: 0 HP
The Electric Terrain was destroyed!

Attack 2: Max Steelspike (130 BP)

Missingno. Master, Mienfoo: 0 HP
Klang's defence rose!

Raid Challengers

Missingno. Master, Mienfoo: 0 HP [Must wait 1 Round to recover]
Slash, Grapploct: 392 HP (Att +1) {Slice of Pizza (heals 1/16th of damage dealt, and 1/16th of HP at end of round)}
Connor, Salandit: 400 HP (Att +1)
CrazyCreeperKid, Torracat: 0 HP [Must wait 1 Round to recover]

Pressing their advantage, the Mienfoo promptly takes the opportunity to dynamax, growing to a great size as Salandit spews forth a blast of fire that scorches the raid boss, leaving it open to a forceful Max Knuckle from the Martial Arts pokemon that causes it to instinctively raise its second barriers, only for one of them to shatter before the Grapploct. As the raiders ready for Torracat to bring the boss to one shield, they are shocked to see that the prior Facade must have left the pokemon stunned, and the fire type fails to act. Whirling its gears at an enhanced rate, the Klang deems this inactivity punishable and promptly grinds the cat into the dirt with an almighty Steel Roller, the technique also destroying the terrain beneath them as the purpose of the prior Max move becomes known. The Klang then turns to the raiders and to the Mienfoo in particular, whirling as it seems to be sizing up the fighting type.

A powerful blast of steel spikes skewers the Mienfoo from below, and with it less than healthy before dynamaxing, the added health from the technique is unfortunately not enough to safeguard it from an exceedingly powerful neutral blow, as the dynamaxed pokemon cries out and shrinks to regular size in a crumpled heap. What seemed to be a simple affair has turned into something much scarier as the winds begin to howl, and without the focus of Mienfoo the Fire Spin peters out, even as the steel type is ravaged by the intensifying toxins...

Dynamax Initiative: Expired.

DQ Warnings:

CrazyCreeperKid: 1.

The Max Knuckle landed, eliciting a satisfied smirk from Willa- the blow forced Klang to set up another shield, allowing the Grapploct to begin to chip away at it. Not to mention, the Max Knuckle had powered them all up- truly, things were looking good!

And then the Klang attacked.

First, it targeted the Torracat, seemingly in explicit retaliation for its Trainer's inexplicable inaction. The Steel Roller promptly dispersed the electricity imbued into the battlefield, and knocked the Torracat clean out. And then came a Max Steelspike, the particularly pointy Max Move striking the massive Mienfoo. Willa looked mildly concerned, but that was nothing compared to how she looked when the air around Mienfoo exploded, Dynamax Energy being released as Mienfoo collapsed, returning to size as she returned to her Ultra Ball. "...What?" Willa breathed in disbelief.

"Mienfoo must have taken more damage than we thought," murmured Maribel. "Dad, what do you think?"

"I think I might have to put Bart back in his ball next!" Keith grunted. Indeed, as his wife and daughter turned to look, Keith could be seen trying to physically restrain his Scrafty- Bart, clearly outraged by how easily Klang took down his girlfriend, was attempting to get in on the action himself. "Bart, stop it-"

"SCRAFT SCRATY SCRAFT!" Bart interrupted, seething in fury as he attempted to break free of his Trainer's grip, intent on High Jump Kicking the ever-loving shit out of that overgrown scrap heap.

"HEY!" Keith barked, startling Bart into easing up. "Bart. I get it. That Klang knocked out Mienfoo and you're pissed. Believe me, I get it," he said. "But there are rules to this. You can't just charge in. We wait, OK? We wait. Mienfoo will heal up in her ball. Willa will send her back out. And then, together, they will see to it that Klang is properly punished for what it just did. Or do you mean to insinuate that Mienfoo is not capable of delivering that sort of an ass-kicking?" he added with a smirk. That got Bart to pause- the Scrafty could so very vividly imagine the disappointed look his girlfriend would have if he ever were to insinuate to her that she was incapable. Because as all present could attest to, Mienfoo was not incapable.

"...Scrafty," conceded Bart, relaxing at last.

"Phew," Keith sighed, relinquishing his grip on the Hoodlum Pokémon. "OK, but yeah, to answer Maribel's question, yeah, Mienfoo had to have taken more damage than we thought. That, plus all the Attack boosts Klang's been racking up," he added fairly. "Max Knuckle... Shift Gear..."

"True, true," Willa nodded, eyeing the Ultra Ball in her hand- already, Dynamax Energy was swirling all around it, working its restorative magic on its occupant. Slowly but surely, Mienfoo was healing up. "All right," Willa exhaled. "In the meantime, while I wait..." she added, holding up her right arm and taking aim with the Dynamax Band as though it were some sort of wrist-mounted laser. And then, the Wishing Star fired off a concentrated beam of Dynamax Energy that deepened the cracks in the shield.

OOC: Cheering to break a shield.

With a cheer from the defeated trainers and a flamethrower from the salamander the final shields shatter, allowing the octopus a heavy strike against the Klang, and as the mechanical pokemon begins to slow down in its gyration, it seems the fight is but a done deal. Not willing to go down just yet, the raid boss goes for a last ditch effort to strike another raider down, but its Max Knuckle whiffs on the Salandit who takes the blow in stride, before another Facade deals tremendous damage to the fighting type, but not enough to put them down as the two raiders return to the field, as a burst of dynamax energy from not too far away alerts the raiders to the successful repulsion of the Mamoswine by the gym pokemon. It's only fitting to send the Klang for an early bath too, as the poison continues to ravage its systems.

Dynamax Initiative: Expired.

DQ Warnings:

CrazyCreeperKid: 1.

The Masterses could do little else but stand by and watch as Mienfoo, still resting in her Ultra Ball, was very gradually healed up, bit by bit, hit point by hit point. And as they watched, they could see that they were not the only ones in such a scenario, for the Trainer of the taken-down Torracat was about to make use of his own allotment of Dynamax Energy. And with Klang still possessing its shield, the way forward seemed clear as a Yanma's wing... which led, naturally, to great puzzlement all around when instead Torracat's Trainer opted to instead heal the perfectly healthy Grapploct.

"...huh?" Keith murmured in confusion. "What..."

"Had... Grapploct even taken any damage to begin with?" Willa asked, a single eyebrow arched in skepticism.

"A little, I think," Maribel nodded. "But... really, really not a lot," she shook her head. "If I was in that situation I think I would've gone after the shield instead."

"Hm," Keith murmured, glancing over at Klang, who was now attacking with a potent Max Knuckle. "...that's another Attack boost under its belt," he remarked. "That thing's been powering up this entire time," he stated.

"Indeed," Willa nodded in agreement, also eyeing the massive, moving mass of minigears. And then, at that moment, Klang lashed out with a supercharged Facade, striking the very Grapploct they had been discussing! This left the Jujitsu Pokémon looking more than a little worse for wear, but decidedly still conscious. "...perhaps he had the right idea," Willa conceded.

"Yeah, you know what, maybe," Keith nodded in agreement. "Klang's gotten seriously beefed up by this point. If it had hit Grapploct with everything this time..." he trailed off ominously.

Maribel nodded as well. "I get the feeling every hit point counts," she stated.

"I couldn't have said it better myself, sweetie," Willa responded with a small nod. At that moment, however, she felt it- felt the last traces of Dynamax Energy leak out of the Ultra Ball she still held in one hand. Glancing at it, she no longer saw a glow- it was done, and the Pokémon within had been fully healed. "All right," Willa murmured. "Let's get this done once and for all!" And she threw the Ultra Ball forward once more. "Mienfoo!" she declared.

The ball split open, and Mienfoo materialized, back down to size, in a flash of light. True enough, the Martial Arts Pokémon looked good as new, facing straight ahead, concentrated on the battle at hand as she always was. "Foo!" she declared, simply yet powerfully.

"Scraft Scrafty scraft!" Bart cheered. Mienfoo turned her head backwards, watching as the Hoodlum Pokémon put on a rowdy show of support for her, and a faint smile could be seen on Mienfoo's face at this.

"Foo," Mienfoo said softly with a small nod. Then, she and Willa established eye contact, and wordlessly nodded to each other. Nothing needed said there- they both were ready to end this.

Willa gestured towards Klang. "Finish it! Force Palm!" she commanded.

OOC: Mienfoo used Force Palm (60 BP).

*As a result of reaching 10 Bond, Mienfoo learned Gummi Bomb (Steel)!*

*As a result of reaching 10 Bond, Mienfoo learned the MT move Flip Turn!*

A plume of fire and a pirhouetting strike is all it takes to reduce the Klang to scrap metal once more as the steel type's dynamax energy erupts from it, and a terrible metallic screech fills the air as dust is kicked up. As the cloud dissipates, the raiders find nought but a number of rusted, discarded gears, and before they can consider the unthinkable, the Codex and the gym's own team swiftly arrive to investigate, and it is only a few seconds of prodding around the gears before a verdict is reached, one of some concern.

"It seems that some unnatural force had possessed a number of old mechanical parts and was using powerful illusions to masquerade as a Klang. Investigations will continue, though we have some potential suspects in mind." the robot trills with the same level of enthusiam as if they were just announcing a positive pregnancy test, before dishing out rewards as the Swampert nearby looks around, clearly on edge about the intruder.

For their part in defeating the Raid Boss Klang, the raiders are awarded the following:

  • 40 Watts
  • TR Flash Cannon
  • x3 Babiri Berries
  • +3 levels for participating pokemon, +6 if level 1-30, 3 candies if level 100.
