So I opened up Twitch for the first time in weeks today and I was surprised they were doing a run of Pokémon Platinum. Mostly surprised that there is still some kind of life in it.

And randomised matches on Pokémon Stadium 2 is also being viewed at the same time? Seems a little desperate to grab viewership to me, I think they just need to let it die?

Well. We sort of left this to die since Platinum started, but they have a freaking Shinx that they refuse to evolve. *facepalm*
At least they have something in the form of Flareon and Bibarel.

They might have, but remember Chimchar's in the very middle and that the cursor falls on the middle Pokemon. That plus A-mashing led to the continuation of the Fire Starter's curse.

It's possible there's no earnings at all. Betting doesn't need a reward to be fun- Plenty schoolyard kids could tell you that much. ^_^

Less than one month later, I check in to see what they're doing and find that they're just dicking around with Pokémon Stadium 2. Taking this to likely mean that they already cleared Pokémon X, I investigated. The information was surprisingly harder to uncover that it should have been, but eventually I made my way to this Hall of Fame index on Reddit.

First, the team. Lapras, Charizard, Absol, Xerneas, Hawlucha, Aegislash. While it's a cool little team, sure, it's also unfortunately lacking a lot of the charm of the "ragtag team of shitmons" that the TPP Red run had. Although I suppose that knowing their movesets might influence that opinion considerably.

Second, the time to completion. At only 5 days, 5 hours, and 9 minutes, this is the shortest TPP run in the history of the project. For comparison, Red took 16 days, Gold took 13, and Black 2 took 19. In fact, if you look at all of the games' completion times, every last one of them took longer than 10 days except for Pokémon X. Part of this can probably be chalked up to how Easy Mode the game is when it comes to leveling up, capturing powerful creatures early, etc. But you can capture powerful creatures early in Black 2 too. I imagine that two additional factors which set Black 2 apart from X contributed to this disparity. First, the audience size. I suspect it was the smallest yet, and that likely resulted in inputs being easier than ever to coordinate. (Especially if bots, once banned, became less frequently replaced with new bots since even the malicious bot scripters quit checking in.) Second, WiFi. When they played the game, WiFi with DPPt, BW1, and BW2 would have already been offline permanently. But with X, they were able to perform a number of Wonder Trades. So, I wonder what other treats they got from the WiFi. *shrug* Anyway, the point is, they completed this game in less than half the time it took them to complete the next shortest game.

Now ... in other news ...

Apparently they plan to stream a TPP playthrough of ORAS once those games come out. Personally, I wouldn't want my first experience with ORAS to be through the chaos of TPP. But I wonder how many people who feel differently from me will be tuning in this November. :o This is the first opportunity to watch a TPP run where, wheresoever Game Freak's made changes to the script, you won't know what's coming next as you watch, assuming you watch with them first and play your own game second. So who knows. I guess that's something to look forward to.

To bump an old thread, a couple days ago was the anniversary of TPP and so they've started anew with the good old Red.

At the moment the horde's reached The Ledge.

This is a hacked version of red where it is much much harder. The e4 has levels of 90-100, and the final goal is to catch every Pokemon, not just beat the game.

Stream is currently quite interesting as we're in the casino- finally trolls and players are in agreement! Players have decided they want to buy porygon and are playing the slots, trolls want the players to lose all their coins, which means... playing the slots. So, so many "A"s.
