^ This piece isn't a piece it's a MASTERpiece. I laughed more than Moonbase Alpha, and that's saying a lot.

Love the Garchomp's expression and the contrast it has with the Pachirisu's happy 'munch munch'. I need that on a t-shirt.

Arvalis has this unique way of looking at Pokemon that I just love so much. The Clamperl thing is so genius. I still think that the Gengar line being bats is the best thing he's ever done, though. Close second goes to Giratina being a giant bug...and then FOLLOWING THROUGH. Holy crap.
Good choice, Dave.

Kudos on the commissioned piece. I hope it's to your liking. Seems that it is.

Yeah I'm seriously tempted to order a print of it. Maybe when I get my own place.
Amusingly this was originally a Relicanth commission, but Arvalis wasn't sure it would be that enticing a centrepiece - which is fair enough, most of his are fan-favourites like Starters and Pseudo-Legends and fossils, while I accept that I'm in a minority when it comes to loving Relicanth. He suggested Gyarados as a centrepiece, said what he could do with it, and I liked the idea enough to go for it. Glad you guys like it! |

I've never particularly cared for Jirachi, but damn if that isn't cute as hell.

How much I wish this were real. And not a mega. (Although I don't mind continuing to keep the dress mostly red. And I really doubt that they'll go back to making Jynx's skin color a shade of black. But I really like what this artist has done with both of these color choices.)

Thought this was a surprisingly touching piece for such a simple drawing. It's rare that we get to see Silver confronting Professor Elm following the initial events of the game, and I quite like this fan artist's interpretation that Silver ends up doing the hardest thing of all -- giving Feraligatr back to Professor Elm after they have bonded on their journey -- only for Professor Elm to surprise him with such generosity and wisdom that Silver is moved to tears of gratitude. The look on Feraligatr's face really seals the deal. Suffice to say that most of the Pixiv Pokémon fandom agrees. As of this writing, 4,982 members have favorited the piece. That's a remarkable achievement, and since it was only just uploaded on September 10 it seems inevitable that it will soon break the 5,000 favorites mark.

Double post, but another awesome treasure-find from the same artist's portfolio:
Pixiv (gallery) Imgur (full size: 1 2 3 4) One of the best things about HGSS is the rebooted Team Rocket executives. In the original game, I didn't really even have a very good sense of just how many of them there were, much less ascribe much of a personality to them. It just felt like they were nameless, generic underlings, even though I understood that at least one of them would have presumably been either the VP of Team Rocket or else the chief of operations in the Johto region (or both!). HGSS fixed this, giving the four Team Rocket executives of Gen 2 distinct character designs and names. It's amazing what these little touches can do for our perception of the characters! And you can see that on full display here. Game Freak gave this fan artist enough to work with that he not only was able to turn out this wonderful four-panel piece but wanted to do so. I feel like, with the personal exception of Proton, he's really nailed the characters' identities here. I may not remember anyone's name except for Apollo's without looking them up, but I feel like anyone who's played HGSS and seen this piece will instantly recognize the executives they defeated in their playthrough over four years ago. Friendly legend: top-left is Proton/Lance, top-right is Archer/Apollo, bottom-left is Ariana/Athena, and bottom-right is Petrel/Lambda.

The Jynx one is definitely less racist than actual Jynx but still probably close to the mark for some people.

Probopass was worse. Waaaaay worse.
For some reason the part that stuck out to me about those images is how well-crafted each exec's ears are, as well as Apollo's hair. All the other details kind of fall flat, but the ears are perfectly proportioned with just the right amount of shading and detail. I wish I could draw ears that well.

I saw this pic on tumblr a few days ago and instantly saved it, but didn't know the story behind it. Silver is still one of my favorite characters in Pokémon for being the first/one of the few to undergo real development and growth. He's come a long way.
Aside: Still don't like how the belt in Silver's redesign makes it look like he's showing off his midriff. >.>

Did not realize before today that apparently the father-son relationship of Giovanni and Silver was only in the Japanese version of the game. I thought it was in all versions. Huh. I wonder why they would cut out such a juicy bit of dialogue in the localization process. I saw that too. And I dislike it too. >.> Aside from the distracting simplicity of the drawing, the faux exposed midriff is my only complaint with this picture. It's otherwise -- and indeed in spite of such complaints -- amazing.

there's a triangle of black above the belt that makes it impossible for me to see an exposed midriff in that image. Not to mention the angle and position of the shape makes it so that the thing he would be exposing is...not his midriff. Oh and it's a different color from his skin, too.
I'm really not seeing it you guys...
